The Market Cross House aka Crooked House of Windsor was built in 1592 near the market square and was initially a butcher’s shop since this area used to be shambles. It stood straight for hundred years. In 1687 the house was demolished in order to make space for the Guildhall next door. But there was a dispute over the lot and the court ordered the council to rebuild the house. Well according to some sources the house was re-built in a hurry and without care using unseasoned wood which caused the house to buckle but it stood its ground nether the less becoming its signature! Standing stones in Stanton Moor are one of many you can find in U.K. Nine Ladies Stone Circle is dating back 4000 years ago to Bronze Age. And believed to be nine local ladies turned to stone for dancing on Sunday... It is a place where druids would gather for their ceremonies in the past and still today. It had a bit eerie atmosphere partially because there was a loud buzzing sound all around up in the trees, not sure if it were bees or other buzzing insects but trees kept buzzing like I have never heard before. Hadrian’s Wall was the north-west frontier of the Roman empire for nearly 300 years. It was built by Roman soldiers ordered by Emperor Hadrian who came to England around AD 122. The original plan was for a wall of stone or turf, with a guarded gate every mile and two observation towers in between, and fronted by a wide, deep ditch. Not all the sites on Hadrian's Wall were heavily guarded fortresses. Corbridge was once a bustling town and supply base where Romans and civilians would pick up food and provisions. It remained a vibrant community right up until the end of Roman Britain in the early years of the 5th century. In around AD 71, the 5,000 men of the Roman Ninth Legion marched from Lincoln and set up camp, that’s when the city was founded. Eboracum, as the Romans called York, was born. York has so many remnants of the history linking it to Roman era, including the city wall, good parts of it still stand strong. Alnwick Castle is used quite often as a filming location for movies and television. Amongst the production that have utilised it include: Becket, The Black Adder, Ivanhoe, Elizabeth, and Downton Abbey. Additionally, it’s a very popular location for Robin Hood adaptations, having been used in Robin of Sherwood, Star Trek: The Next Generation (episode “QPid”), Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and director Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood.
