Why ?!

The mini setup I used for our Isogram session. We improvised synth layers, experimented with LFOs, pitches and sequenced patterns and recorded directly unto tape loops. I am all for small setups and love to explore the endless possibilities within certain parameters that a small number of components brings with it. It could be perceived as limitation but to me it really seems to spark more ideas than having access to everything all the time. Makes me focus and zoom in on details more and really give them attention, also it is a challenge to find a way to express whatever melodies need to flow out my system. Therefore the music is allowed to stay closer to the emotional core of what sparked them. 

I love to hear the human behind the work, the soul, the struggle, no matter how abstracted the sound. I try to look at the computer as another tool in the box, as a way to express, not as an easy way to make you sound better than your work actually is. Computer corrected music that tries to fake a better performance bores the living guts out of me. It feels bloodless and subpar instead of being perfect. Perfect music is to me when the listener is feeling the struggle of the creator, be it with the emotional core of a piece or the actual struggle to perform it. It’s raw, it’s sweaty, it’s pure, sometimes ugly but just as beautiful because it is not easy being expressed. It’s the sound of making the fucking effort. The way I look at it is, if there is no soul in electronic music it’s not the fault of the machines, it’s because soul was not poured into the work by the creator. Giving myself time to make mistakes, grow with them step by step and make them my own is what I am aiming for, it makes me feel alive and in motion. The damn struggle is the reward. It’s so much fun I wouldn’t want to miss it for the world. Let’s keep building tiny worlds around that notion 🕹🔮🖖🏻💫
