Just watched Nimona

The fact this movie never got a theater release because of Blue Sky's closure and Disney deciding to nix it once acquired will forever break my heart holy shit.

Like up front it is BEAUTIFULLY animated, the writing is tight as hell, the story is genuinely moving and amazing. By that alone it deserved to be in theaters.

I love that dbd lets me explore steve and nancy's characters outside the bullshit that the show is.#because the whole steve and nancy dynamic is Interesting. but the dustbags are plagued by cerebral hetrot so that story never GOES anywhere #it's just the “Waaaah love triangle OMG!!! will they? won't they?” crap. idk man. idc. why're these dumbasses breathing in Upside down air?#some people here have seen lucy before-- he is the ghostface pictured. and he's an OC. different person entirely from danny.#I won't explain his full lore here but-- he was a drag queen before the fog who started out by only killing those who he felt deserved it.#his entire persona satirises catholicism and he calls himself “the holy ghost” rather than ghostface. the entity made him an actual devil.#he's obsessed with steve because he LIVES his own role so he sees steve as his heroic opposite or some fucked up gay shit like that.#he's clutching kate's heart because if he were a real character in the game-- he'd have two moris.#one standard... and one for if a steve is present in the lobby. the second would involve him carving out the heart of a survivor as a gift.#he never harms steve though-- so it makes steve's penchant for self-sacrifice pointless.#steve instead has to do what he can to open the gates as fast as possible-- or watch everyone else die! :)#as for the toxic yuri-- it occurred to me that sadako's backstory bears some striking similarities to barb's story.#as soon as I realised this-- it was like I had suddenly gained the ability to see a new colour I could not see before.#sadako wanting to torment nancy as sick revenge for what happened to her but using barb's death as justification for this...#...nancy being unable to escape the ghost of barb... even in this hell dimension full of terrifying monsters--#it is still the memory of the girl she feels she “let” die in steve's pool that scares and hurts her the most.#not to mention that sadako's powers are reminiscent of how the upside down related fuckery appears...#the screwy technology. the telekinesis.#I just REALLY love seeing characters be forced to confront difficult parts of themselves even if that shit REALLY hurts.#dbd makes it so easy to do that to any given character. of course this goes both ways too-- it'd force lucy & sadako to change too.#which opens the door for torment on their end too because killers who disobey the entity are tortured into obeying.#a rock and a hard place on both ends. and that is Exactly how I like it. intense. complicated-- a puzzle to be solved.

I finally saw the Barbie movie! I have. Thoughts.

#I am too deep in the Illness™ to fully articulate said thoughts but ultimately:#stylistically it was very good and it was extremely funny. I thought the message got muddied a little bit and the pacing was uneven.#I enjoyed it but I don't really have a burning desire to ever watch it again.#I thought ken was extremely annoying.#there were some really nice pieces of commentary in there that succinctly put words to a variety of issues.#but I ultimately felt like this was trying to be too many things at the same time.#like a feminist commentary AND a stylized comedy AND a celebration of weirdness/ordinariness AND an identity discovery story #and I think it would have worked better if either a) they had picked one of those and ran with it the whole way or b) this had been #formatted as a tv show so that each one of those could have been given the appropriate amount of time it deserved. I think it was just #trying to do too much in the space of a two hour movie #there were also these random bursts of like 'oh no I'm in a position of power/privilege that's so HARD I hate it so MUCH' but meant #completely earnestly? which I also found weird.#and like. the movie is fine. it's not evil or horrible or even badly-made it just didn't completely rock my world. it was a pleasant two #hours that made me laugh #mc13 watches stuff #please don't hate me I know how beloved this movie was

I miss my childhood house so much I would give anything to grab the knob at the end of the banister and jump from the third step and catch a million seconds of air while I whip myself around the banister and down the hall

#I also miss my treehouse and the pool table I would use for fashion shows and the smell of the “secret garden” under the stairs and #the way the house would settle and the planes overhead and that stain on the carpet from where I dropped an entire plate of mac n cheese #and the distinct smell of my mom’s closet and climbing down over the back bank and going to the entryway where the ceiling was two stories #high and throwing bouncy balls as hard as I could to get them to bounce off the ceiling and the rope swing in the backyard and eating #the buttercups that grew there bc I read once they were edible and the sound your nails made when they scratched across the counter and #using hot clue to peel off paint and make patterns on the workbench and the shed that smelled like gasoline and climbing the tree that #my dad installed handles into to make it easier and making umbrella forts and playing washing machine (spinning around and around in #circles with your arms out then falling to the floor and watching the room spin) and the mismatched rung on the banister from where #I broke it and the sound of the cat door and how the garage door was so heavy that it would slam if you didn’t prop it open and how the #smell of laundry would waft up into my room and how if you laid on the bathroom floor you could see a piece of the old yellow flower #wallpaper that my mom missed when she ripped it out and the sound of the sliding glass door that we could never quite get clean and #the sound that the bag full of bags would make when you opened the pantry door too far and how my neighbor always used to sing when #she brought her trash out late at night and the crunch sound the carpet would make when you walked on the edge and how raccoons would #always come to the back door and my cat would try to scare them away and being scared to go into my mom’s bathroom bc the shower #had been ripped out for years after my dad tried to power wash it so it left several gaping holes to the rest of the house but there were #spiders in there for all I knew or cared #carmen.txt

Samurai Flamenco seems to be really hard to get into tbh but Please try to watch it through to the end. I know so many people who started it said they liked it then just....never finished it and I don't understand ?
