The Ninja Create Fursonas

Despite the title, no furries were harmed in the making of this fic

When the announcement first comes through, Jay's thrilled. He can't believe it's real. It's like something out of a dream. When the day finally comes and they're on their way to the studio, he sits in the back seat and practically vibrates in place for the entire trip.

A hand settles on his thigh. "Settle down, Jay!" Cole says, laughing. "You're charging up enough energy to give us all static shocks for a week. Is your brain exploding? You're so jittery today."

"Of course I'm jittery," Jay snaps. "How are you not? This is like, the greatest thing that's ever happened to me."

This thing being- wanting to ride their latest wave of popularity after defeating the Preeminent (and Nadakhan, but apparently he didn't count- yes, Jay was salty), a toy-making company had approached the group and asked if perhaps they'd be interested in a line of stuffed toy creatures made after them? As if they'd say no. And if that wasn't enough, they also wanted the ninja to be the ones to design them.

Jay just might pass out in the back of this van.

They'd been escorted into a cozy-looking room with long tables and chairs and given giant pads of paper and black markers. The head artist gave them a rundown of guidelines- nothing scandalous, certainly; they should try to make each character cute, relatable, and most of all marketable- and oh, wouldn't it be neat if they each had something to do with their element?

Jay had agreed readily. He sized up the sketch pad in front of him and cracked his knuckles. Okay, brain. Let's do this.

Except that was forty-five minutes ago and Jay's no closer to an idea than when he began. He bangs his head against the table with a long, drawn-out groan. His sketch pad drops uselessly from his hands.

"It's no use," he whines. "I don't have a creative bone in my body. I'm gonna have to pack my bags and move to the south and become a repressed goat farmer."

Kai mumbles something that sounds suspiciously like "not a creative bone in my body my butt." But when Jay looks over at him, the fire ninja's attention is fixed firmly to his own board.

Blearily, Jay raises his head. Everything he's drawn looks like trash. There's a weird leopard creature scribbled out in the corner. Next to it is a lizard that looks like a cross between Rango and that purple thing from Monsters Inc except with none of their good qualities and all of their bad. A sad bird-thing sits in the center. It looks disappointed in him despite its lack of face. Maybe the blankness enhances it.

He drops his marker on the table and leans back with a long groan.

"It can't be all that bad," Nya says. She's bent over beside him, bottom lip caught between her teeth as she fills something in. Jay sighs without moving.

"I couldn't think of anything to draw so I started drawing Kai as a porcupine."

Nya whistles lowly. "That is bad," she says. Both of them ignore Kai's outraged shout of: "Hey! My face is the best inspiration you'll ever get!" She sets down her own pad, closing the cover. "Maybe if we show you what we've done, it'll inspire you."

"Or it'll just make me feel worse about myself," Jay grumbles, but he sits up in his seat properly. "Okay. Let's try that. Do you have anything?"

Nya shrugs the way she does when she's proud of something she did but doesn't want to call attention to it. "There was something I was working on." She flips open her sketchbook. Jay scoots his chair closer to hers. His eyes widen.

"Woah, Nya! That's actually really cool!"

"Actually?" Nya asks, raising her eyebrow, but she laughs when Jay pouts at her. "Oh, fine. Thanks. It's not much yet, but-"

The character on her paper is a seal, small and round, with dark eyes and a happy puppy face. At the edges of the sheet are more drawings- one has the seal in a wetsuit; another puts it in diver fins and a snorkel.

"I wanted to experiment around," Nya says. "I think I like the wetsuit one the best."

"That one's cute," Jay agrees.

From Nya's right side comes a groan. "Will you two keep it down?" Kai complains. "Some of us are trying to work here."

"Some of us are trying to work here too, but we can't," Jay sends back. Not one of his best comebacks, but it's to Kai. "I've got brain blockage and Nya's helping me out."

Kai glances over and sees what they're doing. He perks up. "Oh, are we sharing?" He sits up straighter and drums his fingers on the table. "Hey, guys! We're sharing!"

"Oh, good!" says Cole. "I wanted your feedback on something."

"Me too," says Zane.

Jay narrows his eyes at both of them. "This right now?" he says. "This is about me. Not you."

Cole waves his hand. "Of course, of course."

The way he says it has Jay hhmphing, but they both turn their focus to Kai as the fire ninja loudly demands their attention.

Kai has created what appears to be a horse, except that it has a few too many legs, a creepy tongue drooling out of its face, and horns. So it's actually not like a horse at all. Somehow it's both angular and blobby at the same time. Ah, the dualities of Art.

"I thought we were supposed to be making these marketable," Zane says with a tilt of his head.

"This is marketable!" Kai protests. "Kids are like, bonkers for dragons."

Ah, so that's what the blob is, Jay thinks. "Bonkers?" he snickers aloud. "What are you, seventy? Did you try cuckoo too? What about nutty?"

"Bananas," Lloyd pipes up. "Gaga. Buggy."

"Okay, okay, we get it," Kai grumbles. "You like to talk."

"That wasn't my point at all," Jay says, but he concedes it. He does like to talk, after all.

"Why does it have six legs?" asks Nya.

"Those are its wings," Kai sniffs.

Nya bursts out laughing, slapping her hand on her knee, eyes closed into crescents. "Hey!" Kai shouts, shoving her from her chair. "You know that drawing's not my real talent."

"Oh, we know," Cole says under his breath.

"Huh?"

"Nothing!" Cole grins. "I'll go next." He flicks back a page or two. "So I originally wanted to do a bear, because bears are cool and they're the deadliest animal on the planet."

"I'm pretty sure you meant to say 'shark'," Nya says.

"I'm pretty sure I said what I meant to say," Cole snips back. He returns his attention to his drawing board. "But bears are too overdone in this day and age."

Jay can't even make fun of him for saying 'this day and age' like some grandma because he's too busy currently gaping at the art on Cole's board.

The character on Cole's paper is definitely not a bear.

"Bears are overdone," Cole says. "So I thought, why not make a narwhal?"

"How on earth," Jay asks faintly, "did you make the jump from bear to narwhal?"

Cole shrugs. "It made sense at the time."

"What's a narwhal?" Lloyd asks. His marker is flying a mile a minute across his sketch pad and his eyes never leave the page.

"It's a unicorn fish," Jay says, turning a disbelieving eye back to the earth ninja. Cole just grins. "A unicorn fish that no one cares about. What happened to giving me inspiration?" he demands. "You've just killed any ideas I might have had!"

Cole pouts.

"I, for one, think it's adorable!" Nya's come up behind Cole now and is peering at his sketch pad. Hearing her words, Cole brightens. "Does it have a name?"

"I was thinking Gnarly."

Nya nods sagely. "That's uber-rad, bro."

Bring Me to Life is playing on a psychedelic loop inside Jay's head. Wake me up inside, wails the lead vocalist, but Jay can't wake up (save me).

"Am I the only one taking this seriously?" he whines. "Guys. This is like, our legacy."

"I'm pretty sure our legacy is saving the city," Kai drawls, "not whatever these characters will be."

"Our legacy," Jay emphasizes. "Don't you realize how cool this is? How many people get to say they have their own cartoon character?"

Cole shrugs. "Exactly. That's why I'm having fun with it. Hey, do you think that Gnarly would look good with a monocle?"

"I'm taking it seriously," Lloyd says. "Look at mine."

"Gnarly would look absolutely dapper in a monocle, how could you even ask that."

"How big is he?" asks Zane. "That would have to be one big piece of glass."

"Hey, guys."

"Ooh, you should give him a mohawk."

"A mohawk? He's a fish! Fish don't have hair!"

"I'm pretty sure it's a mammal, actually."

An explosion rockets the left side of the room. Jay startles so badly he almost falls out of his chair. His eyes dart around for the threat, only to lock eyes with a smirking Lloyd. A smirking Lloyd who still has his fist raised, faint wisps of smoke rising from his fingers.

Jay lets out an inhuman shriek. It's a wonder that no one's come in to check on them, honestly. "Lloyd!"

"What?" Lloyd grins. "You weren't paying attention to me."

"We've raised a brat," Cole says. "An absolute menace."

Lloyd's grin intensifies. "As I was saying…"

He spins his board around with all the pomp and circumstance of a ten-year-old who learned how to act through daytime television. Somehow, despite them only having been given black sharpie markers to draw with, Lloyd has colored his character in with crayon. It's a shockingly detailed goat-creature. Its fur has been colored a mint green, and it's wearing a golden sweater with dragons crossing the sides.

It looks like it was ripped from the pages of an actual comic book.

"Woah!" Kai says, launching himself across the table and sending no less than three markers flying as he goes in for a closer look. "That's awesome, Lloyd!" He beams at the younger ninja. "What is it?"

Nya scoffs. "Obviously it's an alpaca, you dolt."

"It's a yak," Cole says.

Jay makes a disagreeing noise. "No, I'm pretty sure it's a goat."

"Guys," Lloyd says, looking extremely disappointed in all of them, "it's a llama."

They sit in silence for a moment.

"Ooh," Jay says. "Alright. That makes a bit more sense."

"Is it my turn?" Zane asks. Unlike some other members whose names shall not be mentioned, he waits until their attention is on him before starting. "I put a lot of thought into this character."

He turns around his paper. Jay chokes on his water. Tears stream from his eyes and he's coughing, but when he wipes them away the picture stays the same.

In the middle of the page, in the glorious high definition only a nindroid could hope to achieve, is a shark that looks like it came right out of some Super Bowl halftime slot. Its eyes are vacant. Its mouth is open in an agonized scream. It's standing in a starfish pose, legs in lieu of a tail.

"My character is a shark," Zane says, as if it needed any explanation.

Everyone stops and looks at him. Zane's the picture of earnestness, eyes wide and unguarded. At this exact moment, he looks like a five-year-old presenting some horrific drawing to its mother. As the silence stretches on, his face falls. "Is it not on target enough? I know we were supposed to be making something related to our element, but there are not that many snow creatures."

The group glances at each other, expressions veering towards the panicked side. By some unspoken agreement, they all reach the same conclusion.

"Oh, no!" says Nya. "We were all just surprised by how good you draw."

"It's a great shark, Zane," Cole says, tone a bit forced. The expression in his eyes doesn't match the grin on his face.

"Yeah," Jay says lamely. "I like how- how blue it is."

Zane beams.

"It looks like you're well on your way!" says a new voice. It's the head artist, coming back into the room. She looks around approvingly at the studio of chaos. "Well done. I knew I heard the sounds of productivity in here."

Apparently productivity sounds like random explosions and screaming now. That's- honestly not that far off the mark, considering that Jay's a literal ninja for his job.

"The next step, if you haven't already," says the artist, "will be coming up with names." Cole high-fives Nya. "I'll be back in a bit to check on you again!"

The room descends into voices once again as she leaves.

"I need a cool name for my dragon," Kai says immediately. "There's got to be a way to combine my name with it, right?"

"Kragon," Cole suggests. "Drakai."

Kai wrinkles his nose. "Kragon? Like that weirdo from the LEGO line?"

"No, you're thinking of Cragger," Lloyd says. "Kragon is that magical crystal thing Jedi use."

Jay rolls his eyes. "No, that's a kyber. Didn't I raise you better than this? Kragon is that website that people sell stuff on."

"No, that's Craigslist."

"Whatever it is," Kai interrupts, "I don't like it. So you nerds can all drop it now."

"I think I'll call mine Neela," Nya says.

Cole glances at her sketchpad and makes a noise of approval. "Neela and Gnarly," he says. "Hey! Ours could be best friends!"

"You're already coming up with backstory?" Jay protests. "I haven't even started my character!"

"Well stop whining and just make one!" Cole says, exasperated.

Jay pouts. At the other end of the table, Lloyd's cackling up a storm as he writes name after name down the side of his paper. Jay leans over to see: his favorites seem to be Llod, Llyod, and Floyd judging on the circles he's made around them.

Jay sighs and leans back in his seat. Nya's abandoned her spot beside him to go brainstorm with Cole, and Kai's still tossing ideas out to the group even though no one's listening to him.

"Ooh, what about Kaitron?"

"That just sounds like a robot," Jay complains. Inspiration cuts through the cloud of his mind like a knife. "That's it!"

The entire room stops and stares at him. Seeing that he's just stood abruptly and slammed his sketch pad against the table, Jay can't blame them. "Kai," he says, "you're a genius." As quickly as he stood he's seated again, turning over a new page and beginning to sketch.

"I'm a what?" Kai asks, somewhere in the background.

Jay outlines a triangular shape. Then a body with one big wheel instead of legs. He fills up his page with sketches, mind vomiting up ideas faster than he can put them on paper. Yes. Yes! This was exactly what he wanted!

"Everyone!" he says- practically demands their attention. He rips the top sheet off his sketchpad with a flourish. "Meet NJ, your friendly little shapeshifting robot friend! The double emphasis on friendliness means that it's full of love."

"Shapeshifting?" Lloyd asks. "Woah, that's neat!"

Jay nods, grinning. "He can turn into anything, as long as it's non-organic." He points out some sketches of NJ as a toaster, as a spy drone, as an umbrella.

"That's- actually a cool idea, Jay," Cole says. "I like it!"

"Hey!" Jay protests. "Are you telling me that all my other ideas aren't cool?"

Cole grins. "You said it first," he points out.

"Kriff!" shouts Kai. For a second Jay thinks the fire ninja is swearing, but it turns out he's talking to his dragon. "Perfect name. Done."

The head artist chooses this moment to re-enter the room. She beams when she sees all their sketchpads laid out. "Looking good, everyone! Do you all have designs now?" They nod. "Great. Well, our next step will be for each of you working with our on-location artists to better flesh out your concepts. Oh, and then backstories!" She grins. "I'll go call them in."

She leaves. Kai stares at his paper. "I hope my artist likes challenges," he finally says.

Spoopy Kitty

After doing so much painting stuff lately--watercolor, acrylic, water-soluble pencils, etc--I had a bit of a craving to take a break and do something a little more true to form for me, which meant either colored pencils or alcohol markers. I have a new-ish (I've had it for a little over a month but prior to this had only put one drawing in it) sketchbook with really nice, smooth 120 lb. mixed media paper that is great for alcohol markers, and markers are a lot faster to work with, so they won that argument pretty quickly. I also decided to do something fall-related, since the season soon approaches, and if I'm being totally honest I did think something fall-themed would make a nice addition to my RedBubble shop, too, since I've been trying to pay more attention to that aspect of my art networking lately. Naturally, I thought of three things that are kind of "Generic Fall" things: Pumpkins, leaves, and black cats. Which almost immediately led me to a black cat on a pumpkin with leaves, and after a few minutes perusing Pinterest for a little extra inspiration, I had more or less solidified the idea of what I wanted to do in my head. I've drawn cats before on a few occasions, but for someone who loves cats as much as I do, I don't draw them very often because I always feel like I'm missing something in the stylization. Which probably means I need to draw them more often, not less, but I digress. The point I'm trying to make is that this time I looked around, again on Pinterest, and tried to look at how I was drawing the kitty from a fresh angle and not rely on my old habits. And this I think worked out pretty good in the end. There's something about the face on this one that I'm a lot more comfortable with than my past attempts and I think the overall look is just cuter and nicer on the eyes. The kitty also ended up being a minimally shaded dark gray because I was trying to keep the fur from totally blending in with the outlines, and then I kinda messed up the shading on the face so I had to go back and layer it up more than I wanted to in order to blend out the kinks. I did end up going back and outlining the mouth with my white gel pen, just because it was so hard to see in-person. Otherwise, for once I tried to avoid using my gel pens and wanted to really let the markers have a chance in the spotlight by themselves. I had a little trouble figuring out what to do with the kitty's scarf, both in terms of how the tails were placed and in balancing the reddish color out, and it's still not totally perfect in either department, but it works well enough for what I had in mind. The pumpkin was actually the easier part, both coloring, and drawing. I did have a few mishaps while I was inking the whole thing though and that would be why some of the lines on the pumpkin, in particular, are obnoxiously thick, and that would also be why those three swirly-vine bits are there; they're hiding little ink "tails" that I could not reasonably thicken the lines to cover and had no other ideas on how to fix. (Although they didn't turn out perfectly either, the end result still works.) The leaves also had a few different interactions in terms of the way some of them were facing, if some of them existed in the picture at all, and slight placement differences, but for the most part they stayed the same between the sketch and the final version. I did end up adding most of the green ones in after the fact because I felt like that extra pop of color was really needed to relax all the warm colors, and I added the yellow on up the side of the pumpkin specifically to further hide a mishap with one of those swirly-vine-things, and then it's green counterpart on the other side was mostly for balance's sake after that. But the leaf on kitty's tail was planned from the very beginning. Once everything else was pretty much done (I did go back and touch up a few areas color-wise later) I added a bit of a fading shadow under everything, as a little bit of grounding. Originally--back while I was still sketching--I had considered adding a moon and doing a dark blue/purple sky behind the cat, but still leaving everything with the regular simply colors, since nights and full moons are often associated with fall too, but I ultimately decided against that, at least for now (I can always do an alternate version later, especially if I decide to go digital with it) and I'm glad I did; I think there just would've been too many dark tones unless I outlined the kitty in white gel pen, but then I wouldn't've known which out parts of this foreground stuff should be included or not. I did end up going back with my Copic colorless blender and softening/pulling up some of that shadow a bit to make it more subtle, and if I haven't mentioned it before, I think this is one of the "better," "more proper" ways to use colorless blender alcohol markers. I usually have issues with harsh "water"/liquid lines if I try to use them more as the name implies if I'm not careful, and it ends up being more of a pain to try and use it to blend than it is to just leave well enough alone. But generally speaking, I find that the blenders work pretty well for effects like this with more room for forgiveness if it's not quite right on the first pass. Overall, I think it turned out quite cute, and I liked it well enough that I do have another fall-ish kitty piece in the works, as a sort of companion to this one. Hopefully, that one will be going up as my next piece, but we'll see how the next couple days go and if that changes anything Sometimes it's good to go back to something you're more familiar with when you're in the thralls of experimentation with new things (not really new things but things you haven't played with much), and I think this little refresher is already proving to be beneficial for me. That said, unless something changes, once my next kitty is done I'll probably be back on the watercolor/paint train for a little while. I keep watching paint videos and naturally I am compelled to join in the painting fun afterward. Also, I've had the itch of purchasing some new supplies to try starting up in my brain again, and it's actually been here for a little while, but I've yet to decide what to grab to satisfy that itch, as there are quite a few choices on my art shopping list So it may still be here, unsatisfied for a while longer while I try to nail down what to do with it. My self-inserts for Bendy and the Ink Machine~! Let’s go! Thanks for asking me about this, @robotarmjokes!!

HUMAN VERSE

Your average animator named Rachel. Glasses-wearing, brown hair that parts down the middle, dark green eyes...and often found in their work outfit. (Hair in a bun and casual clothes- t-shirt and pants- with an apron over it. For the ink stains, of course.)

Joey Drew accepts just about anyone...provided they’d want to work with him in the first place. When they begged him to look at their portfolio, well... A look through ended up assuring a job, much to their delight.

Works among the inking section of the cogs that are Joey Drew Studios. Thus, their apron that’s often gently splattered with the dark liquid.

Tends to be lowkey and not very talkative, but gets along with Henry Stein, Allison Pendle, Shawn Flynn, Ernest Craft, and Daisy Lindel. (The latter two being OCs of mine.)

Their favorite creation of the studio’s? Probably Alice. “I like the way she sings... She’s got such a lovely voice to her! Like a songbird.”

Also has a crush on Sammy Lawrence... Though with the guy being such a shut-in, you’d be hard-pressed to find them together.

...Though the more Rachel protests to wiggling into his time, the more they hang out, later down the line.

It turns into Rachel showing him their personal projects, even allowing him to flip through their sketchbook freely. (Though he’s never seen their notebook, filled with notes, more art...and drawings of him, as well as love notes.)

Sammy gets to vent to them about music, often getting to be the one who sees the idea or clarity for a project strike him, urging to finish that old one or start up a new one. It’s their great pride to help him, as they’ve said a few times before.

They do end up dating later down the line... Though most at the studio didn’t know it, even after they started coming to work together. They kept their private life, well, private.

Though they were living together and even bought a house together with their pooled savings; the extra rooms were morphed into an art room and music room, to settle with their interests.

Both of them credit each other as the other’s muse. That’s where the rumors began that the two might be dating. (Though they were behind on the news, of course.)

Joey Drew Studios collapsed not long later, much to Sammy’s frustration. Both were worked to the bone, but also had to make payments, so... A potential job-hunt wasn’t up either of their alleys. Though Rachel was determined to try, despite the odds.

One day, he snapped. Said he wouldn’t come back until he figured out what happened to the studio.

...He never did.

Depending on the timeline, Henry might find Rachel, lost in the studio, trying to find Sammy. In others, they’re the one who Joey called back...and now have a few time-loops of their own.

TOON VERSE

In another world, they are someone different... Meet Kathy the Clumsy Kitten! A creation of Joey Drew Studios (specifically by Ernest Craft, but Joey Drew has since taken all the credit for her creation, much to Ernest’s chagrin) and one of the more...quietly loved characters of the series.

Kathy started out as “Kitten” and with the design below:

In these early days, she had no voice to use. Instead, sound effects would play to denote her emotions; like soft chimes when she cried or the zing of a piano when surprised.

However, people thought she was another demon with her ears looking like they did! As well, despite her feminine appearance, a lot of comparisons between her and Bendy soon arose...

To combat this, she was quickly redesigned to look more...original. The design settled on this less than a year later:

...and that’s the design that’s always been used since!

Update notes: inside of ears drawn, fur tufts on face, and a tail added.

It was also with this design that Joey gave Kathy her now-defining character trait: being a literal scaredy-cat. Easily spooked and, of course, very clumsy.

She’s known to be bullied by Bendy, terrified of Boris, and good friends with Alice, despite the fact her clumsiness has inconvenienced Alice quite a few times in the various episodes that the studio has produced.

She also considers Joey Drew a father figure, Daisy Lindel a mother figure (especially since Daisy would end up being Kathy’s first VA), and Ernest someone spooky....!!

She does also have quite a bit of trust with Sammy Lawrence, though; his music and ramblings often lull her to sleep.

There’s also ANOTHER toon-friend she has named Aki... Aki the Grimmest Reaper, as they call her. (Joey Drew Studios did a trade with a Japanese animation studio at the time. Not only did they work on a short for the other studio, but made a character for the other studio to use; Aki was from the Japanese animation studio.)

Though... The biggest problem by far? Kathy’s got a crush on Bendy.

And now, we get verse dependent~! As there’s two ways things work out......

With Bendy: It takes some vague scolding on Aki’s behalf and clarification from Alice before Bendy realizes that Kathy isn’t as much of a welcome mat as she is just a pushover to the person she likes. Which is. Him.

It’s embarrassing on both sides, but hey~! Bendy’s got charm, yeah? He does his best to lessen the tricks and instead provide little hearts he cuts out of pink (or red) paper and flowers he steals under other people’s noses.

It’s made her a good bit more clumsier at first, what with all the surprise flattery from her crush, but once Bendy finally went all out with asking her to be his lil lady... Well, she actually got better. Still clumsy, but not as bad as she used to be.

They’re a heartrendingly sweet couple. She showers him in praise and affection (which he adores) and- once the show’s all said an’ done- spends time cuddling with her after. It’s...really nice and something Kathy loves to do with him.

However, this has not stopped Bendy’s love for dancing. He even purposefully got thicker shoes so he could waltz or dance in any way he pleases with Kathy. So why thicker shoes? So that way, when she inevitably steps on his feet, he won’t feel it as much!! (It’s embarrassing, but that did make her laugh, much to his delight.)

With Alice: ...Or on another hand, Alice ends up gaining a crush on her best friend and shy little kitten. And you know what? If Bendy won’t treat Kathy right, then Alice will!

So she does, finding Kathy, taking her to the best spot Alice knows, and holding both of her hands as Alice confesses to liking her. It surprised the life outta Kathy to hear, but-!! .....Well, it’s not like she doesn’t want to date her...

It’s an uncertain thing at first, with Kathy getting to see Alice in a new light. Alice takes it slow in response, though in what feels like no time at all, they’re one of the cutest couples of the studio!

It’s not uncommon for Kathy to still try to help out with Alice’s performances, mostly in regards to setting up. Though her clumsiness still makes Alice pretty nervous... It’s too easy for her to trip up on a stray rope and make everything fall apart like dominoes!

Though on a sweeter note, it’s not uncommon to hear Alice singing and find her cradling Kathy, singing the kitten toon to sleep and guaranteeing only the kindest of dreams.

Alice has mentioned matching outfits someday... Kathy’s still flustered by the idea but very, very much up to it.

Finally..... Some additional notes. ;>

INK DEMON VERSE: Daisy eventually gave up her role voicing Kathy, giving it to her daughter, Clara Lindel. However, the young woman didn’t work as Kathy’s VA for very long. The character was her favorite of the show, so it was incredibly heartbreaking for it to end so soon... However, when Joey Drew sent that letter, asking for a callback? Of course she wanted to go!

...Not knowing what awaited her when she got to the studio.

She’d awake later, no longer a human. But a mix of ink and soul.

She’s more “Clara” at first. But as time goes on, that personality- that person- melts away, more and more becoming “Kathy”... Neither of them want this. But neither of them can stop it, either.

Though it’s also why they try so desperately to help Henry to escape; if they can’t be helped, hopefully he can... Right?

Though there is technically a thing where I ship Bendy with literally me. No universe-fitting self-insert stuff.

This started due to needing to get my teeth worked on and me being super anxious about it. I needed someone to be with me. Someone small, protective, easy to hold and with wit to make me feel better when scared... I latched onto Bendy, since BATIM happened to be my main special interest at the time.

Taking another sip of your warm, steamy cocoa, you cherished the peaceful scenery before you. A charming and quiet, yet popular cafe felt like the perfect spot for you to complete a daily drawing. Placing your mug down, you reached over for your purse, unzipping it to take out your sketchbook. You flipped through the pages, quickly admiring your past work before finding a blank page.

The only thing you questioned was what you were going to draw. Perhaps your half empty cocoa mug. Or maybe that old lady sitting in the corner, staring out the window. The more you looked around the room, the more potential you saw for drawing. Grabbing your purse again, you took out your phone, snapping a quick picture of the view in front of you.

You began to draw, starting with the tables. Once those were finished you sketched in the chairs and those that were sitting in them. Looking at the picture you took, you smiled seeing the middle-aged woman who gave you your drink taking someone else’s order. This small detail would definitely add to how inviting this little cafe is.

Unfortunately, you grew frustrated drawing this woman. You couldn’t seem to get her short, wavy hair the way you wanted and her proportions didn’t turn out right. Erasing yet another failed attempt, you decided to move on and draw the counter. Sketching the pastries inside seemed to be a lot less challenging. Working your way up from that, you drew in an employee cleaning the counter and the menu board on the wall.

The overall sketch was nearly complete. All you had to do now was sketch in the walls, flooring and somehow draw the cafe owner to your liking. Putting your pencil down, you took your last sip of cocoa; automatically feeling more calm about the final touches to your illustration.

As you started drawing in the walls, you couldn’t help, but feel as if you were being watched. You initially shook this odd feeling away. It was possible that another customer was just standing behind you and would leave soon. Though that wasn’t the case. Curiosity built up inside you, so you turned around to see if anyone was, in fact, within your radius.

Sure enough, someone was behind you, but it was no customer. It turned out to be one the employees with a tub full of dishes at his side. Although he was a bit of a distance away, he still had his eyes locked on your sketchbook. Despite knowing someone had been watching, it still shocked you enough to jump in your chair.

This took the raven-haired boy aback. He hadn’t expected you to turn around or be so startled by his presence. “S-sorry,” he stuttered, his free hand now rubbing the back of his neck. “I didn’t mean to scare you. I-I was just looking at your drawing. You’re really good.”

Despite still being tensed up from the shock of someone looming over you, you were flattered by this compliment. If you were being honest with yourself, you didn’t think of you were that great of an artist. Hearing positive feedback on your work, even over something as simple as a rough sketch, helped motivate you.

“Really?” You asked, your voice still slightly shaken from being spooked. “Wow, thanks! This isn’t my best work, but I’m glad you like it.”

The boy rose a brow at you before examining your unfinished work. You felt a little self conscious of him doing so, but the grin on his face reassured you otherwise. “Are you kidding? This is really cool. I’ve never seen anyone draw the cafe before.” He chuckled to himself, continuing to admire your work. As his eyes wandered around the page, a certain detail seemed to catch his attention. “Hey…is that…me?”

Looking to where the employee was pointing, you could tell just by the hair alone that it was him in your drawing. “Oh uh yeah…that is you,” you confirmed. “I took a picture a little while ago and you were by the counter. I hope it’s okay.”

You thought maybe he had a problem being drawn at first, but you were proven wrong by the laugh he gave you. “It’s cool. No one’s ever drawn me before. I think I turned out well.”

You managed a soft giggle in return. “I wish I could say the same about the owner. I can’t seem to get her to look right at all.”

“Don’t worry about that. Aunt Cass would be thrilled to know that someone drew her no matter how it turned out.”

His aunt? You thought to yourself. Now I really want to get her done right. “If you say so.” For some reason, you had expected the conversation to have ended by now, but it didn’t. In fact, you were actually enjoying talking to this employee. He seemed friendly and genuinely interested in your work. As busy as he seemed with work, you wanted to keep talking with him, even if it would be cut short. “So, are you much of an artist?”

Shrugging, the boy said, “Not really. I’m more into robotics, but I do have to draw sketches whenever I make something.” He glanced over to the empty chair across from you. “Do you mind if I…” he trailed off, walking closer towards the seat.

“Not at all.”

Placing the tub of dishes to the floor, he sat down, reaching for his notepad and pen. You watched as he quickly started to doodle away. You had to admit, you were impressed. He was drawing with a pen and didn’t seem to make any major mistakes with…well you weren’t sure what he was drawing. Having this quick sketch be a surprise was a little exciting.

“Alright, here it is,” he announced, turning the notepad around. A smile grew on your face seeing the his fast sketch of what looked to be a rather plump cat.

“Cute,” you told him, appreciating how well the doodle appeared despite how little time he spent on it. Nonetheless it was actually done well. The fur looked fluffy and the bell for a collar was a nice detail to add. “You know, if robotics doesn’t work out for you, you’d make a good artist.”

The boy shook his head at you followed by a comical eye roll. “I never considered that possibility, but I’ll keep it in mind. Besides, I’ve gotten used to drawing Mochi by now.”

You would have laughed, but a thought had just occurred to you. You had been talking to this employee for at least ten minutes now and you hadn’t even introduced yourself yet. Of course, you hadn’t originally planned to do so, but given that your conversation was going so well, it only felt like the right thing to do.

“I’m (Y/N) by the way,” giving him a proper introduction.

“Hiro,” he happily exchanged. He held out his hand in a manner of wanting to give you a handshake. However, right as you were about to, a loud voice called out Hiro’s name.

“Enough chit chatting with the customers, Hiro!” His aunt lightly scolded. “I need those dishes washed!”

“Oh uh right!” Hiro scrambled to get out of his chair. Grabbing the tub as fast as he could, he reached over for your finished mug of cocoa. “It was nice meeting you!” He yelled in your direction. “Good luck on the drawing!”

You couldn’t help, but smile. As you got back into your rhythm of sketching, you felt grateful for making a new friend because of this still uncompleted piece.

This was so fun to write! I can definitely see Hiro befriending someone over a drawing. Thanks anon for the request! I hope you enjoyed it :D
