I have a lot of Thoughts about the issue of Jon's humanity. There's a lot made of how he's not human anymore in seasons 3 and 4, before and after the coma, and I could debate the usefulness of "human" as a term for morality and connectedness all day, but that's not the point. Regardless of the presentation, some sort of disconnect between him and the others is definitely there. By mid- season 4 he is fully leaning into feeding on the fears of others, into being something more of the horrors he knows than of the people around him, and that's not a shift that came from nothing. However. My hot take is this: I think Jon's disconnect both exists, and is also entirely for human reasons.
Up until season 4 Jon is three things. He is confused, afraid, and wildly out of his depth. His arc is a constant scramble to figure out what's going on three steps behind the curve, getting in too deep before he even knows what he's getting into, losing people before he even fully nails down what he lost them to. Tim sees him as uncaring because he's isolated and not acting to help matters, but that's because he doesn't know enough to help, and he's leaning hard into figuring that out instead of being around for emotional support - which is...debatably the wrong approach, but also extremely in character. One of the only things he took initiative on was smashing that table, and we all know how that turned out. By season 3, he's antsy enough with how little he knows and how little he can do that he shows up on Jude Perry's doorstep in the hopes that she'll be merciful. Point being: this man doesn't have the first clue what he's been pulled into, and the game he's been playing is nothing more than trying desperately to figure it out just in time for the next big thing to go less devastatingly wrong.
Then he dies.
Then, he wakes up feeling on top of it.
He says in the episodes after the coma that he feels revitalized. He feels in control. He finally feels like he fits with all of this. He is more of what's happening around him than he is a victim now, and that feels good. He can escape the coffin, he can square up with Jarod, he is self-assured and has tools of his own to truly know things for the first time in years. Just imagine that for a second. Imagine the most uncertain, most uneasy, most fearful time in your life, stretched over years feeling like people you know (or you!) (or the whole world!) are going to die if you can't solve a puzzle you don't even know the shape of it yet, and then somebody takes off your blindfold. You don't have to feel around for the pieces anymore. You can just see them, and move them.
Of course you're going to reach for them. Of course you're going to take the first sense of real control you've felt in years and lean into it. ...Maybe, depending on who you are and whether you have anyone around you who's willing to check you, even if you break a few eggs to make an omelette along the way. Even if those eggs are people who see you in their sleep and wake up screaming. Especially if you've spent those last few years absorbing every minute of your predecessor's recorded words on the importance of being ruthless in order to save the world.
Jon didn't start leaning into his abilities regardless of the cost because he's a monster. Jon did that because he's human, and scared, and then handed a means of relieving that fear. Better to be a wolf than a sheep. Better still, if you can convince yourself (with the help of some Classic Elias Manipulation) that it's for the good of the world, and any harm caused and the discomfort it causes you is a sacrifice that needs to be made. Jon makes sense, to me. In my mind he doesn't need to be a monster in some ambiguously defined sense to explain his shift in attitude. The explanation is there in full: a man in a rowboat on a turbulent ocean of fear, now given a motor.
(The fact that he was so consistently called a monster by Basira, one of his few points of contact still remaining in Peter Lukas's Lonely-flavoured Institute, also certainly didn't help his leaning into it at all, but that's probably an essay for another day. Confirmation bias is a hell of a thing, and I'm sure being made to think he had no other options made it all the more easy to tell himself the same.)
#statements of the void#TMA#jonathan sims#tma meta#<- maybe?#btw I'm trying out the name colour thing just for readability in longer text#it's either the entity alignment or just colours i associate with the characters#Also this is not a Jon defense. not at all#or really a Jon condemnation#it's more an autopsy of the plot and the position it left him in by this point in my relisten anyway#season 4 is the point where i start to see actual points he could have done better and didn't#before that any mistakes he's made have honestly been cases of lack of knowledge or nature of the character imo#he couldn't possibly have known and he was acting under incredible pressure#but...he could have guessed Elias wanted him for a ritual and sabotaged him at this stage#tried to stop the others on his own#though i guess Elias was in jail so didn't really seem like a problem#so. yeah that's fair#but he still could have done more to scupper the Eye's plans along with the existing sabotage of the other fears#like Gertrude did#but he didn't#and i think the reasons why he didn't are more interesting than just being a ''monster''#my last two fandoms have both given me a really loaded opinion on that word funny enough#I'm starting to come around to my flondon character's opinion#which is that ''monster'' is just a word for an animal or person that people are afraid of and also don't understand#it's not usefully a different thing from either Person or Animal#all it describes is a lack of familiarity#a rampaging bull that kills five people is an animal. a rampaging bull that kills no people and has glowing red eyes is a monster.#it's not a measure of anything but human unease and it annoys me a bit now when i see it used like it measures anything else#anyways. off topic. I ramble#enjoy the sunday morning essay

Erathis, the Lawbearer
Tumblr media
"To decree Law is to serve and to subjugate, and declare rightful Order."
A deity who has earned a surprising amount of presence in the setting, and justifiably so I suppose, Erathis: the goddess of Civilisation and Law.
Erathis is another entity who originates from other settings, and I'd say that my presentation of her character actually manages to be a little less benevolent overall. She is aligned as Lawful Neutral, and in this way she doesn't wholly mind what kind of Order is established, so long as it is Order.
Conflict is Chaos, and so an Order that has minimal conflict associated, and is benefactory to those involved, does happen to be suited to the Lawbearers ideals, which means that Erathis' ideal civilisations are either ones of total peace and amicability or of total subjugation.
Nevertheless, Erathis finds herself aligned with the goodest of the good gods, having allies in Bahamut and Chauntea, the former of which she famously fought alongside in Nohria to defeat Tiamat (who got fucking decapitated by Big Fuck Off Axe).
(In other settings, such as Exandria, Erathis has a tumultuous romantic relationship with the goddess of nature, and within Omnia I have Chauntea placed in a truly saccarhine relationship with Lathander, so there's potential for a deific love triangle there lmao).
As for enemies, Nature's Furies (Talos, Auril, Umberlee, and Malar) are up there, and while this gives them a common enemy, Silvanus has to actively persuade Erathis that civilisations balance and cooperation with wild, untamed nature is indeed possible.
(I'm... probably gonna add Relationships sections to all of the gods wiki pages... sigh)
Anyways, actual design-wise, pretty much unaltered from her depictions in other settings, it just kinda rules I think (It's a lady in armour I'm very easily impressed).
I don't super have any qualms with her appearing too "normal" for a god, since she is the goddess of Civilisation, which is a very mortal, personable concept, so I don't mind this being reflected in her design. When she actually appeared on the material plane she would be like, titanic, so it'd be clear that she is a deity regardless. As a fun bonus I did sketch out her approximate appearance below the hood (eyes totally whited out with light), but she is rarely, if ever, depicted with her face wholly unobscured.
This aspect of her design is also reflected in the appearance of the Imperial Inquisitors, who serve Erathis.
Felt overall mixed on how I executed the colours here so have the lineart/Sketch as well:

HTML (and CSS) from the basics...
A web browser’s Purpose is to read HTML documents and display them accordingly in a manner that lets the world to read and see.
The internet was created so that anyone can access documents from anywhere in the world.
Looking at HTML and CSS
Responsive web design is one that work on all screens and an amazing book going over this is Ethan Marcotte’s, “Responsive web design”.
Understanding elements of RWD (Responsive Web Design)-
I can control the viewpoint by adding more padding so that the information is easier to read, I could create flexible grids on CSS grid and flexbox, I could make media responsive by adding “mouse-over” events to let users know the image holds a certain action with it and I could create suitable breakpoints, for example three media queries which cater for different screen resolutions.
Back to the basics
HTML stand for “HyperText Markup Language”. There are many editors such as brackcets, Atom and NetBeans amongst others. It is important to keep everything in lowecase when coding in HTML as this makes presentation more visual and lets the user know its a html website. All HTML tags start with and end with >.
Every webpage is made up of the head and body sections.
HTML Headings- range from H1 to H6 (usually) HTML Paragraphs- listed as “p” within the brackets, this is where regular text is held HTML Images- these are pulled in as a resource that allows the web browsers to show images from a selected destination HTML Links- these can be either internal or external that lead from one page onto another HTML Buttons- these are visible entities which usually contain colour HTML Lists- can either be “ul” (unordered list) or “ol” (ordered list), and each list item is known as “li” (list items) HTML Attributes- Href links, src of image, alt attribute, width and height attribute are all examples of attributes HTML Blockquotes- these are displayed as highlighted words, in quotation marks HTML Comments- Can be used for comments to make other designers aware of what has been done, but can also be used to make certain things invisible so you can fix issues Character sets- eg. to create euro sign, UTF-8 Sectioning elements- nav, aside, article, section, body
Link targets can open a selected link in a new window tab.
Images should be no more than 1MB and if that is the case then the image(s) shoulde be compressed.
All images associated with the HTML webpages should be contained in a separate folder, usually labelled as “img”.
The “div” should be used for sections and these position content with no meaning. In every webpage, there is just one header and footer and these should be consistent throughout the website.
On the header usually is displayed the logo, search form and navigation. On the footer is usually displayed the author’s name, social media, post/updated date, meta data and foot notes.
CSS stands for “Cascading Style Sheet”
“sstyle.css” is the name of the file that will contain all CSS styling
“Portfolio” should be name of my folder before accessing the website.
Body { Color: #FF0000; }
The above line of code basically tells the HTML site to display a red coloured background for the webpage.
Working with CSS can sometimes not work out as it should and therefore a copy should be saved every so often.
The HTML is able to link everything together including the CSS and Javascript files and all of these files require HTML to work, which is because the browser first finds the HTML file.
/* This is color */ The example above shows how comments should be displayed on all CSS files.
A single target in CSS, such as the h1 can change more than 1 entity for example its color can be changed, font size, text align and font family.
When using CSS, the font size should be listed as “em”.
All HTML webpages should be linked to one CSS stylesheet.
Underlines- text-decoration: none; (eg. for links to take away underline) text-align: left; (to make text go from left to right) font-family: (lets the CSS file display a selected font type)
CSS Box Model
This is essentially a box that wraps around every HTML element and can include:
content- the words used
padding- around top, bottom and sides of hedings etc.
border- comes after padding, beyond the padding
margin- spaces between boxes, background, margins are not always transparent and tehy are not included in the click area of an element unlike padding
CSS Selectors
class selectors can be used for one paragraph to put it into a different color. For example a class could be called “synopsis” which would then be styled in CSS as a “.synopsis” element. When choosing a class name, the actual name is not as important as long as it is unique.
container divs can be used to divide content.
Basic link styles include:
:link- never visited
:visited- has been visited
:hover- users mouse over
:active- being pressed down
ID selectors contain only one element per page with a particular ID and it starts with # in CSS.
Example: (hashtag) button-2 { color: blue;
