RANT (TW: Transphobia, homophobia, conservatives being conservatives)

So I just found out about something called "Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise," otherwise known as "Project 2025."

Essentially conservatives want every queer person completely eradicated from society. Gone. They want to completely get rid of us. Direct quote from their little book:

"This starts with deleting the terms sexual orientation and gender identity (“SOGI”), diversity, equity, and inclusion (“DEI”), gender, gender equality, gender equity, gender awareness, gender-sensitive, abortion, reproductive health, reproductive rights, and any other term used to deprive Americans of their First Amendment rights out of every federal rule,agency regulation, contract, grant, regulation, and piece of legislation that exists."

THEY LITERALLY WANT TO ERASE US FROM SOCIETY.

They want any pornography gone from the internet too. To protect the children, of course. IT'S NOT FOR KIDS, YOU FUCKING IDIOTS. No more porn or explicit writing will exist. If a librarian has a book with a sex scene in their library, they will be considered a sex offender. Stupid, right? Oh, but it gets worse. If a librarian has a book in their library with a queer character in it, they're also a sex offender. Because they consider it pornography. That's a literal death penalty in Florida. Queer parents could be considered sex offenders and be imprisoned just for being gay around their kids. And they want to make the only sort of treatment available to queer people conversion therapy.

Oh, and they WILL make this happen. Even if this plan is challenged, it'll go to the Supreme Court. Which is mostly conservative.

Basically, the conservatives want us all fucking gone. They could actually do this. They could literally destroy the entire queer community. Also, any sort of sexual expression you might have (I am a very sexual person at heart, I've genuinely considered doing sex work in the future just because I want to so I'm really mad about that) will be a criminal offense.

Something I found funny is how many people didn't understand Ben and Devi, and that's like one of my favorite things about this ship. And I'm not talking just about fans, I'm talking in canon. The girls don't understand them, they were like, why would you want to be with him?! but as the story progress, they get it, Devi is Devi when she's with Ben, and it's the same for Ben. Fabiola sees Ben under a different light when Ben talks about Devi breaking his heart, not because it's about Devi but because Ben is vulnerable. Fabiola is like damn you have a heart? And the little smile she gives them with Aneesa at the end of s4, perfect circle. The fact that Paxton gets it like even in s3 Paxton, told Ben, "She had something with you that we don't share" Yes he was talking about them being smart but in S4 when he smiled at them making snarky comments about eachother, he get it now.

I just love that, that EVERY person in Ben and Devi's life ended the show, understanding what they have (obviously, I'm talking about people who know they have a vibe). They did it too, and that's why I'm not worried about their future. They're going to be brilliant together

only rule is consent, platonic relationships are just as important as any others, and the lines between different relationships are blurred. how your attraction works should not affect your relationships and how they're viewed beyond your internal view of yourself and each relationship can be individualized to the max.

neil is a completely fascinating character to me, and so much of that is because of his death. it's indisputable that he killed himself because he knew that the only control he had over his life was his death, and he couldn't stand to live without the autonomy that he knew was his right. i know the logic, and it's so easy to deduce. my qualm is, did he think of todd? and if he did, what was he thinking? did he even think of him at all? did he hope and pray before pulling the trigger that neither he nor todd would wake up after that night, and did he feel guilty for wanting to rip todd away from the life he had? the life that todd had because of neil?

the one right thing that mr. nolan ever said was that neil's death was a tragedy. it's a tragedy to the future of what neil could have been, and what he could've had, surrounded by people that love him.

As a gay man, the top bottom discussions are just soooo cringe to me. The whole point is that I'm attracted to *men*. It feels like the “so who's the girl” question. No one. We are both men, and that's the *point*. So the wolfstar top-alpha-man and bratty-girly-bottom are extra painful.

I remember seeing myself in Sirius as a teen and soooo happy that he got paired w Remus in fics. Back then the only things I had available were horrible 2000s yaoi and some very adult explicit stuff that I definitely shouldn't have read.

They felt real. Two men, actual men, not a boy that looks and behaves like a girl and a guy that would have been straight if he didn't happen to fall in love with that over-feminine boy.

I read them cohabiting in LLAL fics. Falling in awkward 70s live with period typical homophobia. I read them dealing with POA aftermath and wat Remus was doing during GOF. and it was awesome because they switched! They explored! They acted like real people! No one was designated the ‘girl’.

And now it feels like I'm back to screaming that sexual assault isn't sexy?? That fetishist big dick top is horrible?? That you cannot know ppl sexual preferences by body type or personality and that's a pretty harmful stereotype?? Like the ‘you don't look/act gay’ way. Also. Hell. People can be in different moods and do a lot of things??

These are characters, so no real ppl get hurt, and no kinkshaming anyone who is into it.

but holy hell I miss reading Wolfstar as actual gay men.

Yes to all of this! The Wolfstar of the 2000s felt very real for the reasons you listed here, and it's painful now to read also because of the reasons you listed here. This is a great summary.

Also, there's a lot of R/S from those early days still on LiveJournal and Fanfiction.net, but a lot of it also got purged. I hope that some of those lost fics still live on people's hard drives somewhere and maybe we'll see them again someday. For the ones that are left, I urge people to save the ones they love, because you never know when you're going to wake up and an entire website is going to be gone, and it would be a shame to lose those iterations of Sirius and Remus.
