লকডাউনের বাজারে চাল, ডাল, সবজি সবেরই আকাল। বছরের প্রথম দিনটিতে না-হয় ভোজের গল্পই শোনা যাক। আর তার সঙ্গে যদি আসে ভূতের গল্প, তাহলে তো জমে ক্ষীর। কলকাতা থেকে গাড়িতে তিন-চার ঘণ্টার পথ। হুগলি জেলার চুঁচুড়া মহাকুমার অন্তর্গত খন্যান স্টেশনের কাছেই এই রাজবাড়ি। থাকা এবং খাওয়ার বিলাসবহুল বন্দোবস্ত আছে এই রাজবাড়িতে আর সঙ্গে মিলবে সাবেকি বাঙালি রান্না। শুক্তো, বেগুনি, মাছের কালিয়া, পোলাও, কষা মাংস, রাজভোগ– এককথায় রাজকীয় আয়োজন। এই রাজবাড়ির ইতিহাসও কম আকর্ষণীয় নয়। সময়টা আঠেরো শতকের মাঝামাঝি। দিল্লির বুকে অস্তমিত হতে চলেছে মোগল সম্রাটদের আধিপত্য আর তেমনই বাড়ছে মারাঠাদের দাপট। ওডিশা হয়ে তাঁরা ঢুকে পড়লেন বাংলার ভেতরে। অবাধে চলল লুঠতরাজ। বাংলার নবাব তখন আলিবর্দি খাঁ। গোলাভরা ধান, পুকুরভরা মাছ আর গোয়ালভরা গরু সমৃদ্ধ বাংলা তখন প্রায় শ্মশানে পরিণত। ভাস্কর পণ্ডিত এবং রঘুজি ভোঁসলের নেতৃত্বে মারাঠারা বা বর্গীরা বাংলা আক্রমণ করেন। বাংলার নবাবের কাছে দাবি করে বসেন চৌথ বা আদায় করা রাজস্বের এক চতুর্থাংশ। বাংলার বুকে প্রায় এক দশক ধরে চলা এই বর্গী আক্রমণ এতটাই প্রভাব ফেলে যে ঘুমপাড়ানি ছড়ায় আজও তার উল্লেখ পাওয়া যায়, “ছেলে ঘুমালো, পাড়া জুড়ালো বর্গী এল দেশে, বুলবুলিতে ধান খেয়েছে খাজনা দেব কিসে।” অবশেষে আলিবর্দি খাঁর সঙ্গে শান্তি চুক্তির পর এই উপদ্রব অনেকটাই প্রশমিত হয়।বাংলায় আগত বর্গীদের মধ্যে অনেকেই বাংলার শ্যামল স্নিগ্ধ পরিবেশ দেখে বাংলাতেই চিরকালের মতো থাকতে থাকতে একপ্রকার বাঙালিই হয়ে যান। এই বর্গীদের মধ্যে কুন্দন নামের কিছু যোদ্ধা ছিল যাঁরা কুণ্ডু পদবি নিয়ে বাংলায় বসবাস শুরু করেন এবং কালক্রমে বাংলার কিছু অঞ্চলের ভূস্বামী হয়ে ওঠেন। ১৭৬৬ সালে ইটাচুনার রাজপ্রাসাদটি তৈরি করেন কুণ্ডুরা। ভূত অর্থাৎ অতীতের কথা যখন এল তখন ভূতের কথাও আসতেই বা দোষ কি? বর্তমানের অতিথিনিবাস বা প্রায় তিনশো বছরের পুরোনো এই রাজবাড়িকে নিয়েও ছড়িয়ে আছে অনেক অলৌকিক কাহিনি। মাঝরাতে আজও হঠাৎ শোনা যায় নূপুরের ধ্বনি। শাড়ি পরা কোনও মহিলাকে মাঝরাতেই দেখা যায় হেঁটে যেতে। সময় চলে গেছে তবুও কি তাঁরা মায়া কাটাতে পারেননি রাজবাড়ির? ভূত, ভোজন আর বিলাসবহুল বন্দোবস্ত নিয়ে জমজমাট ইটাচুনার রাজবাড়ি।
