About Align Technology:

Align Technology was formed in 1997 by Zia Chishti and Kelsey Wirth to design a transparent aligner. This American company makes 3D digital scanners and orthodontic Invisalign clear aligners. Tempe is its headquarters. Aligners are made in Juarez, Mexico, and scanners are in Israel and China.

14/05 étape 40 Castrojeriz - Villalcazar de Sigra. Peu de villages à traverser : Itero del castillo, Itero de la Vega, Boadilla del Camino, Fromista, Poblacion de Campos, Revenga de Campos y Villarmentero de Campos. Légère montée sur un plateau pour redescendre en plaine, avec canal de Castilla, et je longe la route sur plusieurs kilomètres, heureusement nous sommes dimanche et donc très peu de circulation.Toujours des chemins créés pour les besoins des Pèlerins pour éviter d'emprunter la route. Je m'aperçois que de gros moyens ont été déployés pour favoriser le déplacement des Pèlerins. Les petites communes seraient complètement démunis si el camino ne passait pas chez elles, la plupart de ces villages sont déserts et beaucoup de maisons sont à vendre. Cette année, il y a beaucoup de monde et donc cet été on pourrait battre des records, souhaitons qu'ils sachent s'adapter au flux grandissant.

J'ai rencontré, à l'albergue, François un Parisien, dirigeant d'entreprise, qui est parti du Puy-en-Velay à 2. Mais son co-pèlerin a dû abandonner, et donc il se retrouve seul, mais va aller jusqu'au bout a son rythme (c'est important).

Day 20 - Castrojeriz to Boadilla

It was a 12 mile day again today, with full packs.

We had a restless night. Or rather I did and kept Jane awake. Apart from it being extremely hot in the room we were both worried about one of stops on the way to Leon where we hadn���t found anywhere to stay.

We had breakfast in the hostel as it was about 7 miles to the first stop. When you arrive at a hostel the first thing you need to do is take off your outdoor shoes. For this hostel we placed them in an outdoor shed, and unfortunately mine got a bit wet after last night’s rain. This meant I started the day in my walking sandals rocking the socks and sandals look.

Anyway, it was a cool morning and the cloud was low. As we walked through the village there were still piles of hail stones in the village square.

Then we walked into the fog that kept us company until we climbed up a steep hill out of the valley. Before we got to the hill we passed a beautiful river setting with some strange calls which Jane was sure was an otter. I tried to get some video but more people turned up and the noise stopped.

The climb up the hill was a bit unexpected. We had been getting used to gentle climbs but this one reminded us of home.

Once we got to the top the view back over the top of the clouds was spectacular.

We were then on a plain for a while before starting a descent to our mid morning coffee stop. The view before we descended was amazing. Many people apparently skip the Meseta as they think it’s boring, but I think it’s the favourite part of the trip so far.

We made our way to Itero De la Vega for our coffee, and it was great coffee. We also picked up some filled baguettes for lunch. While we were there Janet (one of the Texans), mentioned a place they sent a WhatsApp to for the stop we were struggling with, and hey presto, they had space for us too so we’ll sleep better tonight.

We carried on and stopped for lunch under the trees on a small hill, then it was just a couple of miles onwards to our ‘hostel’.

Our ‘hostel’ is fab. It’s a hotel really but I think most of the residents are pilgrims. The guy on reception was brilliant, we came in with Colm from Galway and I think the receptionist took pity on us so we’re not in the dorm annex but in the main building on the top floor in a room full of single beds. However it’s much more up market than the room of single beds we were in last time, and we are near an opening velux that looks out on the church with the storks making nests on the roof.

After showering we took our laundry down to reception. For 3 euros they put it through a wash, but only a very short one we think as whilst my shirt is no longer smelly, it is definitely not properly clean. I think Jane must have taken the receptionist’s eye as he dried hers but mine had to go on the line.

The Pilgrim meal had the largest number of people we’ve seen sat down. We had the choice of two soups, then fish, chicken or beef stew followed by an ice cream, all washed down with water and red wine, for a reasonable 13 euros.

Tomorrow is going to be a long day and we’re sending our bags on ahead. So we’re now just about packed up and ready to settle down.

This will be of interest to only a few of you I'm sure, but I'm so used to the kanban style of doing things in code that I made my own system for skinning in Notion. Nitty gritty below the cut

The not started column is more or less in order of how I want to approach things- I find starting at the edges and working your way in is the best way to be able to get responsive coding right. My general process is first I get the view I want at a lager screen size- I have some intuition about how to structure things there so I'm not tearing my hair out later, I wish I knew how to articulate it better. I generally code things to be flexible from the start, so usually I need to start compensating when I've deliberately coded things to take up smaller than 100% widths of the view. At some point, having all the real estate in the screen will be critical- and that's usually where my breakpoint is. Secondly, I squish the screen in until things start to break. 600px seems to be my sweet spot for breakpoints. That's where 99% of my stuff was made responsive for Itero, and that's where my hero broke this time around too. I really try to keep to a single breakpoint- this often means simplifying structures as soon as a view gets that narrow, even if nothing has broken. Having things change across the site at different widths is a great way to get a headache.

When I finish an overall view (like the index, or a topic with all it's posts, etc) I'll do a sweep of all the common elements like colors and swap them to vars. I try to keep these segmented sensibly so that once I make a different mode, it's just a matter of swapping a few of those and not having to go bit by bit through the site making sure every swap looks good. I'm one of the few, the insane, the blue light lovers who really prefers a light skin, but I know I'm in the minority so I basically view a dark mode as obligatory.

Also for the curious, this is what my board looked like for my first skin.

I was interested in different things here. I wanted to guesstimate how long I thought things would take me, so I assigned a size to them, right at the beginning before I'd ever messed around in jcink. I was right about most of it, overestimated a few things, didn't underestimate at all, I think. I also was on a crunch towards the end as I was seized by the rabid desire to actually open a site, so I sorted my 'tickets' by tiers of necessity and put a lot of the most interesting problems on hold. Do people need a memberlist, or fun scroll animations for a site to be functional? As much as I hate it, the answer is the memberlist. No one is going to touch my css because I'm not selling itero, so I never went through and cleaned up after myself. As much as I really want to make a rule for topic descriptions so I can scrape all the threads on my board and generate a full timeline of everything that happens, that's an unreasonable ask for members. Some day I may go back and do some of this (especially the scrolling stuff), but like. Itero works. If I do more it'll probably be to beautify it, not any real structural or even functional change. Also, on the Modernity kanban board, I've got a field for tracking time which I'm going to try to be diligent about. While I've been able to pull a good deal of stuff to make jcink behave from my first skin (no one cares about you, news banner), I'm starting from scratch on the structure of the rest of it, so it should be representative of how much time a skin actually takes, from nothing, which I think should be interesting. Anyway, that's way too much writing about how I'm organizing my work as I approach a new skin. I hope this was useful, or at the very least interesting, and if not, thanks for reading to the end anyway, lol.
