Current obsession: idk if i could call them obsessions yet but right now i'm really invested in sousou no frieren (anime only, havent caught up to the manga), skip to loafer (same there), and i'm looking for more wholesome healing stories. although now that i'm going through my reading lists for stories i've dropped, i'm laughing at them fjaksfjkasfj

(i promise this one has proper context bc i usually like pacifist mcs just bc i like politics and connection seeking to be based on a foundation of empathy and kindness. but this one was just so stupid and just a way to establish how good the mc was to the point that i couldn't get immersed in the story bc it was that nonsensical and i wanted to die)

i'm typically fine w mary sues / jane(?) FLs and i even tend to be biased for them just bc there's a lot of misogyny about the subject matter, so i normally don't bat an eye unless it's a writing choice i find unsuitable / doesn't fulfill the potential it could've achieved with an interesting plot.

(btw the context is that the first screenie which this rant also applies to was when some guy caught the baddies and the FL is like "No let's reward them for trying to kill us. they're just misunderstood!! i bet if we try really hard we can all get along!!")

but! i only really like it when it actually does something useful, like thematically or symbolically. like tohru's innate goodness for furuba inline with the sohma's family curse and mitsumi's unending positivity and earnestness that helps the people around her heal from emotional wounds. not that they're mary sues in any way, but since people understand mary sues as "female protagonists who can do no wrong and will be liked no matter what" (even thought their psychology and personality is just genuinely likeable), i think it makes my point clear. there's a way to write a character who is Good and Kind without cheapening them to a naivete that at best, makes the mc pitiable, or worst, is treated like the mc's totally unique worldview of "lets be nice to people and never hurt anyone ever :)" is the end all be all of the story and the solution to the plot. kindness and empathy is a coiled spring that projects you forward, a motivator. it's how you guide your hand and where it goes, not that the hand is never raised. i don't agree that cowardice towards change and the potential promise of conflict is any kind of wisdom >:T plus it kinda puts the shame to the idea of kindness as a legitimate basis for political strategy, and that leads to some set up for a lot of zero sum games i don't care for in this specific story. there is a good story where each character is trying to one up each other politically, psychologically, at all times, but this is not that story and so the tone feels very off kilter.

but yeah!! sometimes a character is just OP and the story is not even having fun with it (aka its not satire or irony), which makes me think they want to take it seriously. and my serious thoughts was that it sucked.

(i just realised this also applies to the first screenie LMFAO it just loops back huh!!)

not gonna comment about the others bc i think they speak for themselves <33 but also the first one of these three is fucked up in the sense that i dont even get where they're going w the story. its a revenge story and the FL uses the ML from childhood to achieve her revenge, but then suddenly when he's an adult she has Feelings for Him and now im like.... okay....? belief no longer suspended. beliefs are like those garter straps that snapped. my socks are like my beliefs. fallen to my feet. they are no longer suspended.

Hello! I have never consumed an official batman media besides like. The dark knight trilogy when I was 15. But there has been a surprising amount of batman +kids stuff on my dash and now I'm interested. You got a recommendation on what comics to start with?

hi!! to be 100% honest im also not that well versed in comics either my journey started fairly recently, and i mostly consume animated dc properties. so if you're looking for something to watch i really recommend Batman the animated series! Robin's Reckoning is a retelling of dick graysons origin that is so beautifully done, and illustrates Bruce and Dick's relationship so well. we get to see dick grayson and also tim drake's robin in the series

but as far as comics go: Batman Wayne Family Adventures is an officially licensed dc product hosted on Webtoons. its probably the closest representation of tumblr's idealized batfam dynamic, its super super cute and wholesome and I like it a lot but again it is like an idealized version of the batfam that doesnt really exist any where else (as far as I know lmao)

Batman 2016 has some good moments of the batfamily interacting, and Batman: Urban Legends as well (I love the red hood and batman story line)

Comics I have not personally read yet but are on my list to read: Batman Eternal and Batman and Robin Eternal both focus heavily on the family dynamic. I am especially looking forward to reading batman and robin eternal because i believe it was written as a celebration of the 75th anniversary of the character robin? and heard that it features cassandra and duke : )

end of law school.... end of my life... where’s the difference...... i cant believe its over.... definitely satisfied with the way things turned out and how they wrapped everything up, even though i really wish they’d went with an 18-ep or 20-ep series bc sixteen definitely doesn’t feel enough for all the questions the drama raised throughout its entirety. i do think they did the best they could with the sixteen episodes that they did have though so :DD

also loved that they had so many cute wholesome scenes scattered throughout the ep like (list incoming):

when prof. yang & sol a ate together and he left so that she could have his noodles.... 

sol b telling her mum that sol a (aka ‘unnie’ !!) did well in the trial and sol a being all drunk cute and happy about it!!!! aaaaaaaaa!!!!!!! (also when joon hwi called her unnie i def freaked a lil lol)

that scene where they’re all lying in the grass and calling out quotes and sol a’s snoring... CUTE

yeseul in the legal clinic advising a client who’s being abused..... im so proud of her and how far she’s come omfg 😢

that scene where prof. yang tells sol a there’s no such thing as a ‘legal mind’ and she just asserts that he’s telling her she can do it..... SO TRUE GIRL WE LOVE CONFIDENCE!!!!! and it comes full circle when he tells her good job outside the pub after the competition.... fav teacher-student duo <33

also the lil scene with ko hyung soo in jail was sooo satisfying like it wasn’t all that significant sure, but i loved that they showed him actually in jail like yes put that nasty mf behind bars forever!!!!!!!!

i would’ve loved to see jiho win his case against prosecutor jin bc imo he shouldn’t have gotten away with all those evil little things he did (the devil is in the details yknow) but oh well. i have all the faith that he’ll win in the end. so glad that joon hwi ended up as a prosecutor like he wanted (though not surprised lol, he is joon hwi after all) but i was def surprised that sol a was partners (?) with lawyer park. inch resting 🧐 loveee the final scene of prof. yang, sol a & joon hwi power-walking away... definitely the way to end the ep i think. all in all, im happy with the open-ended way the drama finished with and im more than glad to use my own imagination to answer all the questions left behind hehe. 10/10 would recommend <3

THUMBS UP. Mangaka really gets it. They are a super saiyan god super saiyan tier lolicon and it shows. This manga WILL turn you into a lolicon. Now about the manga, Miharu is cold blooded. Love all the dumb simple “I HEART KILL” tier shirts she wears. Characters arcs for both the MCs are on point. Story always progressing towards its big goal in good feeling ways. Art is top tier. Very funni americans. What more could you want from a loli assassin x old man cleaner manga?

Tensei Goblin dakedo Shitsumon aru?

Chapters 1-28

Somethings not connecting with this one for me. [Insert isekai startup here] but this time its a goblin who can live as old as a human instead of dying in like 3 days like a normal goblin. Magic is skill exclusive and skills get passed on when someone dies. So obviously a demon lord gives the MC a skill. No interesting skills really outside the time related one. Plot kinda lame because its city building but the goals of the story in building the city aren’t stated(beyond become demon lord) and nothing too interesting happens. Tensura and Death Attribute Magician do everything this attempts but way better. THUMBS DOWN.

Naze Boku no Sekai wo Daremo Oboeteinai no ka?

Chapters 1-30

Feels like Guilty Crown. Not Code Geass, Guilty Crown specifically. Huge and important difference. Especially with the way the main character’s powers are handled. They are sort of ethereal and the MC is incredibly weak without this god weapon. Good art for boss battles, art is usually photo-realistic backgrounds but drawn characters. Nice world building to really build the dread of saving the world. Nice mystery behind everything as well but ultimately THUMB IN UPPER CORNER. Strong feeling of dumb fun throughout.

Seirei Gensouki

Chapters 1-35

Way too long for me to not feel neither the pulse of the theme nor the pulse of the overarching plot. Everything feels like its been building up and just setting up something world altering potentially. No idea what it is at all. Like to see worlds with multiple isekaiers in them tho. And also there are satisfyingly wrapped up emotional arcs. Just didn’t connect with me personally enough. THUMB IN THE MIDDLE.

Read some of the doujins by the artist. Nice dr2 one. This manga is totally different though, being a somber story about a hero turned undead that has to go on one more adventure through the world he fought to protect. But he is a total goofball so chiaroscuro ensues. THUMBS UP.

Lets build this town, demon lords! Actually quite a lot of likable characters in this one. All of the MC’s entourage go through some form of character development too which is commendable. THUMBS UP. Best girl has to be Demon Lord of Wind, Stolas.

THUMB IN UPPER CORNER. Feels like a reincarnation manga because the world is setback in development and MC is OP in comparison. Also twins are discriminated against in this world because twin demons hurt the goddess in a fight long ago. MC hates the goddess in the vastly religious world. Pretty unique for what it is. Also MC fights with swordmancy which is pretty based.

Starts off with the [hyper compotent person kicked out of complete idiot hero party] setup, but this aint really about that. 32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you? Depends!! Sometimes music really confuses my brain and makes me unable to think of words, especially if it’s really word-heavy music (which is most of what I listen to). If I’m really struggling, it usually helps to do it in silence so I can focus. But otherwise, I used to make little playlists of instrumental music to listen to, or play premade playlists of like study music or something.

33. Do you write oneshots, multi-chapter fics or huuuuuge epics? I really like writing huuuuge epics/multi-chapters but I’m really bad at finishing things ;--; so most of what gets published are requested one-shots/ficlets (one of which was requested the other day and I’M STILL T R Y I N G I SWEAR)

35. Do you write drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about? Uh I guess? But I’m not particularly stuck to the “required word count” for the different vocab. I usually only write really short things when people request stuff haha. But it’s kinda fun~

37. First person or third person - what do you write in and why? Third person. I used to write in first person and for some reason it always seems less?? effective/neat to me? Plus I write very colloquially and I find it easier to do when I can write in third person.

38. Do you use established canon characters or do you create OCs? Usually canon characters, but if it’s something like Total Drama that depends on constantly changing casts of characters, I’ve definitely made some of my own characters.

40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing? Effectively capturing characters, at least that fit my own standards. And then also the anxiety that comes along with thinking its good enough to waste people’s time with. :’)

43. Is there anyone in your fandom who really inspires you? I mean, all of my friends for one. And my lovely darling @cantolopejeevas who continues to push me forward and compliments my work all the time. But yeah, all my friends make me wanna get better because they’re all so good and I wanna do that tooooo!!

45. What is your all time favourite fanfic? Fuckin’!!!! Wu Xing Shield, listed above!!! It’s the first fanfic I cried reading!!! And it’s so beautifully written!!! If you like Xiaolin Showdown, I recommend it. Plus, it also took stuff from Xiaolin Chronicles and made it bearable. Bless.

46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why? Ahhh You Monster. It’s probably my best one. Even though it needs heavy editing haha.

47. Archive Of Our Own, Fanfiction.net or Tumblr - where do you prefer to post and why? I mean....Fanfiction.net is where it all began, but I never posted anything on it. I think AO3 is the best for posting fics and keeping track of them. But more people usually see it if I post it on my tumblr. So a mixture of those two?

48. Do you leave reviews when you read fanfiction? Why/Why not? For the longest time I didn’t because I had major anxiety!!! I was too nervous to leave a comment, no matter what. Plus, I didn’t really make accounts on either ffn or ao3 so I couldn’t have if I wanted to. But now I like leaving tags and stuff on people’s works on tumblr and (if I read more fic) I would leave comments, just because I want people to know they’re doing good work!!

49. Do you care if people comment/reblog your writing? Why/why not? Yeah, I mean, of course! I love seeing comments on all my work, art, writing, or otherwise! It’s just nice to know that someone liked something I made, especially if it’s something I’m self-conscious about like I am with writing. And reblogs help spread it around so it can get more attention, so that’s always helpful!
