That's happens often, especially when things aren't written down. When someone says adamantly that 2+2=5, that's when I seriously have to question if their mental elevator is going all the way up.

Writing things down is not a surefire way to eliminate conflicting ideas & math that ain't mathing, but it will establish a very clear starting point when those type of situations arise.

People have a tendency to only listen to hear you stop talking so they can immediately start talking.

Communication is about comprehention; if your audience doesn't understand your message then you haven't communicated!

Tip: when the speaker stops, make a summation statement of what you actually heard them just say. That way, you both know that comprehension was had.
