My neighbor was recently evicted, and I kept hearing crying through the walls... I got the landlord to go and check it out, and apparently the former tenant left behind his Edgy bitty. It doesn’t seem like he can speak, he’s missing his right hand, and he has some broken ribs. His owner was a drug addict, and the bitty pretty much constantly shakes. The tag on his collar says his name is Spike. I’m... not equipped to help with this severity of issues. Can you help him, please?
You have been very brave and very thoughtful, a lot of people will hear such sounds and ignore them. Nothing against those people, it’s difficult to step up and make oneself known in unknown situations and being scared is a completely valid reaction.
But you stepped up, and for that I thank you.
We’ll take Spike from here. Ed, Halim, we have a patient in need.
Thank you again. You’ve done a very good thing.

It never gets easier, seeing a being so small and in such pain. Scared and alone, Cell was incredibly glad for their bitty crew, how their two medics stepped up the moment they returned to the back room with the tiny shaking Edgy bitty in hand.
He was small, smaller than normal for his type, bones thin and fragile and gray from flakes of dust. He probably hadn’t eaten anything in days, maybe longer, but they doubted he’d be able to keep anything down from the way he trembled.
Who knew if he’d ever had anything like a reliable food source, if the previous owner had been a druggie as the rescuer had mentioned. Little gods and goddesses, they hoped whatever drugs he’d been dosed with they would clear from the bitty’s system without too much distress. Poor Spike looked like a strong wind would blow him to pieces.
“Ed, can you get Van for me? We’re going to need him to play magic IV while Halim gets a diagnostic.”
“You got it, boss.”
It was the Papython’s first real severe case, and Cell let Halim take the lead, knowing he was much better trained for the situation at hand. Spike was kept cupped carefully in their hands, providing support and warmth while Halim gently cast his magic over the tiny shivering Edgy.
As they watched, they knew that, while this might only be the beginning of Spike’s journey to recovery, things could only get better from here.
Spike has now been added to Residents.
