International Women’s Day 2022: Break the Bias
International Women's Day is celebrated every year on March 8. It's a day to raise a toast to the efforts of women across fields in shaping a more equal world. The theme of this year's #internationalwomensday is ‘Break the Bias’. We are proud to share that our #glbim BBA students also became the part of this campaign.
GLBIM #BBA students bring awareness to the gender biases women face every day in all walks of life. Gender bias refers to the preferential treatment of men, and whether the bias is deliberate or unconscious, it is holding women back from reaching their full potential. The #BreakTheBias movement aims to encourage people to call out gender bias when they see it happening, and holds us all accountable for our own thoughts and actions
Each year, IWD has a theme for the day. This year International Women’s Day 2022 Campaign theme is  Break The Bias:  Imagine a gender equal world.  A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.  A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.  A world where difference is valued and celebrated.  Together we can forge women's equality.  Collectively we can all Break The Bias.  Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.  We can break the bias in our communities.  We can break the bias in our workplaces.  We can break the bias in our schools, colleges and universities.
This year, to raise awareness of the Break The Bias campaign, there is a hand pose which people can share to show their support. The campaign encourages people to ‘cross your arms to show solidarity’.

Día Internacional de la Mujer / International Women’s Day
*English version to follow*
Tumblr media

International Women's Day is celebrated almost everywhere in the world. While women from all continents are often separated by national boundaries, ethnic, religious, linguistic, cultural, economic, and political differences, people come together to "congratulate" us only one day a year. Women have fought for more than 100 years for equality, justice, peace, and progress; so that every 8th of March they can say to women "congratulations on your day, women".
Let us remember that the 8th of March is not a day to celebrate, but to commemorate and honor the memory of the 129 women who died in a fire at the Cotton factory in New York, after they went on strike. They decided to stage a sit-in, in the factory. These women sought to reduce their working hours to 10 hours per day, a salary equal to that of the men who had similar jobs and improve the poor working conditions. The owner of the factory ordered the doors of the building to be locked from the outside to force the women to retract their demands and leave. But far from giving up on the demands, they burned to death inside the factory. That same year, on May 3, a manifestation was held for Women's Day in Chicago, preamble to February 28, 1909 where in New York, the "National Women's Day" was commemorated for the first time.
So, this day is not only to congratulate women "for their day", this day is another opportunity to thank, support, recognize, and respect the contributions that women make to this world, because we are not only life givers, but we are also professionals, housewives, daughters, wives, friends and in many cases we are the sole breadwinners of our families.
International Women's Day has been misconstrued, it has been shown with celebrations and events, congratulations on social networks, and with flowers, etc.; when the intention of commemorating this day is to thank and recognize all those women who fought for us to have the right to vote, to have the right to occupy a public office, to have the right to be free, among many other privileges enjoyed by those of us who are alive today.
Many of the women fighting for all this has costed them their lives and don’t forget about the women who are struggling to survive in countries at war or in countries where women are still treated like nothing, let's also not forget our women who are trying to cross the border so that their children have a chance not only to go to university,  but an opportunity to stay alive, and finally let's not forget our women ancestors who lived in a much more difficult time.
Let us thank and recognize the contribution of women and girls around the world who are leading the charge in adapting, mitigating, and responding to climate change, to building a more sustainable future for all.
These words I dedicate to my mother, my grandmother, and my great-grandmother who despite not having any of the opportunities that I have, never gave up and did the best they could with the very few resources they had, I also dedicate it to my daughter, who with her joy, intelligence, and resilience has helped me to see life with different eyes, with the eyes of love and hope.
Thank you to all the women who in one way or another have touched my life.
With love and gratitude Gina.

IWD22: Nigeria lags as African peers enact gender equality reforms
Twelve years after it was first introduced, Nigeria’s Gender and Equal Opportunities Bill rots in the national assembly while some African peers are writing new laws advancing equality of economic opportunities. Last Wednesday, a coalition of 229 women groups condemned lawmakers for refusing to amend the constitution to advance inclusion. On the 2022 International Day of Women, the action of the…
