i’m sorry but there is just something SO endearing about jack quaid’s boimler drawing. like i’ve genuinely been thinking about it all day

the scratchy lines at the top of the circle, the “raisin fields” label, boimler’s dead expression, the obvious garfield inspiration, his stupid hat, the wheat in his mouth…… like i have spent all day picking this drawing apart and it just never gets old for me. it’s so endearing.

even the description is endearing!

it’s so obvious so much love has gone into this show from not just him, but the rest of the cast & people behind it

could not agree more on this. we’re lucky that we not only got 5 seasons of an animated show in an era where most don’t make it past 2 or 3, but we’re lucky that it didn’t just get axed as it is right now and we can at least get SOME sort of conlcusion.

where my biggest problems are is that the official posts wouldn’t call it a cancellation because, let’s be real here, everyone knew the moment it was announced that it was a cancellation. i also don’t appreciate how it was a joint announcement with strange new worlds getting another season which it didn’t deserve more than lwd. can we just like reverse it. cancel snw and bring back lwd. pls. /hj

in a perfect world, the fans’ backlash would get lower decks rehomed to another streaming service or we’d get a spinoff media (comic or otherwise) continuing/actually wrapping up the wc5’s stories in satisfying ways.

but i’m worried that with only one season left, with ten episodes that are each ~20 minutes long, it won’t have any room to breathe. i want season 5 to be a good season, and i’m sure everyone else does too, especially now more than ever. but there’s so many things to wrap up in such a small amount of time (mike mentioned adding a little onto beckett & jennifer’s story, william didn’t get ANY screentime in season 4 or even a mention so we don’t know what he’s doing*, rutherford screentime would be nice for once, etc). i’m just concerned that it’s going to have to be rushed and it won’t be as good as it would’ve been if they had at least a couple more seasons to space things out.

slightly unrelated tangent, but this is why we need to bring back season sizes that allow for filler. people can bitch about filler episodes all they want, but it spaces out the story and honestly i’d consider them important to characterization! like yess show us what these characters do when they’re just goofing around!! give us slice of life episodes!!!

back on track, i just don’t want lower decks to go how moral orel went. moral oral was a show that was planned out for five seasons, getting cancelled at three. this made it so season three was SO compressed full of constant pressure and the heavier material it wanted to portray and there was never any room to breathe the way there was in seasons one and two.

these characters are OBVIOUSLY so important to SO many people! it got a crossover episode with another series! and if they’re just being kicked to the curb because it’s animated so people don’t take it as seriously, then fuck that. genuinely.

but the fact that paramount wasn’t honest in its announcement pisses me off to no end. they need to stop calling it a “conclusion” and saying “lower decks is concluding after its fifth season!”. IT’S CANCELLED. JUST SAY IT GOT CANCELLED. the only person i’ve seen call it get “cancelled” was a staff member on twitter! maybe i’m just picky when it comes to word use, but the way they said it’s just “concluding with its fifth season” makes it sound like it was planned to only be five seasons when this OBVIOUSLY WAS NOT THE CASE OH MY GOD I AM SO FUCKING MAD ABOUT THIS

* i know there’s a sec31 movie (/series??? i see it get called both. which is it.) in the works, but that could mean anything. knowing how much of a hard-on people have for prequel content for whatever goddamn reason, it could very well take place before the events of lower decks. hopefully we MAY get some live action william content, especially considering jack quaid is a live action actor and did an excellent job portraying boimler in real life, but i’m honestly doubtful. i know william isn’t an important character. maybe he was planned to be and they scrapped him, i don’t know. but he’s my side blorbo. the character nobody else really gives a shit about but I DO. THATS MY EVIL PURPLE WIFE GUYS😭😭😭😭😭

But I worry that the characters will just be forgotten about afterwards! I can’t handle that!

Lower Decks deserves a follow-up series at the very least!

I don’t normally react like this, but Lower Decks is one of the few pieces of media which REALLY resonated with me and it’s one of the few things which kept me going the last few years.

I know that last point sounds vague and ominous but still.
