☀️January TC Challenge (Day 1-31)☀️
1. Do you think your TC will teach you next year? M is teaching me this year and i'm so exited for it! I also still have A this year!
2. If you had to move to another city, how would you tell your TC? Would you confess to them?  Maybe in person so i could see how they reacted and i would maybe confess them!
3. Have you ever written a letter to your TC? If no, would you ever do that and what would be in it? If yes, what did you write?  Yes. I made one for S mid 2022. I wrote how I was so thankful for him.
4. Are you attracted to your TC in a more emotional or sexual way? Or both? Both if i'm being completely honest
5. How did you meet your TC? Do you remember your first conversation?  B and S both taught me when they first joined, and I sadly don’t remember our first conversation since we had so many and it was so long ago. I think with A, it was just mainly about getting to know each other, and i got to know him because my old maths teacher used to teach him. I met A around the same time as S! I met M at the start of last year since he was my teacher for a small bit of a subject i took! Our first conversation was him praising me and my answers
6. If it were to happen, how do you imagine the perfect kiss going down with your TC? If by chance you have kissed your TC, how did it happen? For S and M, I imagine it being the last day of school and they give me a goodbye kiss! With B, maybe a reunion kiss or something like that. With A, maybe a quick goodbye kiss!
7. Have you ever had an argument with your TC?  No. I would have nothing to argue about with them
8. Do you see your TC outside of school?  I wish I did. Hopefully i get to see B maybe, especially because he left
9. Do you have a memory you are particularly fond of with your TC? Any cute stories? When B was still at my school, B and I would have chats about random things and ask about my hobby of drawing! He also used to check up on me during school assemblies! Once when i was staying back after school, i was on a call with my dad, and i saw S walking towards me. I finished up the call with my dad so fast (my dad and i were done anyway) and talked with S until he got to his car. I helped him remove some things off his car before saying goodbye! This happened recently before it was the school holidays, but when i was in M's class, i was working on my own since i didn't really know anybody in that class. M saw this and decided to work with me! He was really sweet throughout it and technically gave me all the answers With A, we were working on something that my teacher gave me, and it had a question about a sports team that he followed. The question involved his team losing, so A decided to cross out his team's name and put a different team's name instead. A and i were laughing about it for a while.
10. If your TC is still married, would you (still) want a relationship with them? it all depends, really in my opinion
11. Do you have a photo with your TC? If yes, how did you get it?  Yes. I have one with B. I got it because the photo is in the school yearbook.
12. Do you think anyone you haven't told about your TC knows you're crushing on them? Most likely. It is obvious
13. When is your last class with your TC? Will you see them over summer break?  My last class with S was in 2021 and with B, it was term 3 last year. I won’t see them over the holidays sadly. with M, it was at the end of last year. I will defiantly see A over the holidays!
14. Have you ever mentioned the tcc/teacher crushes to your TC? NO WAY. I would move schools after that. Even to the other side of the world!
15. Do you think one of your classmates has a crush on your TC? I don’t know tbh
16. Do you get jealous when you see your TC with other students? Not really
17. If you and your TC had a long distance relationship, do you think it would work out? Yes...
18. What's your TC's degree? Do you like what they studied? S: Science and a language B: English  M: Science i like those subjects
19. Have you ever cried about your TC? If so, why? No
20. Have you ever cried in front of your TC? If yes, why? I have cried in front of B once, I have forgotten the reason why. S saw me just after I finished crying and it was embarrassing.
21. Do you know about your TC'S family? If yes, what do you know? I know of M’s daughter. (He introduced me to her once which was cute)
22. Would you consider them a dog person or a cat person? I would consider them all cat people. But maybe M would be a dog person
23. How would you tell your TC about your feelings? (If you had to) Letter most likely so it can be anonymous
24. Do you know how your TC dresses outside of work? In casual shit, I guess
25. What are they like when they are upset? I’ve never seen any of them upset. When B was getting annoyed, he would just be like “come on guys” and everyone would just shut up
26. Where do you sit in relation to their desk/spot/lecturing position? With B, i used to sit at the front, near where he was sitting. With S and M, usually at the back, so I can admire them. Since A and I have private sessions, I technically sit right next to him
27. Do they know another language?  S knows Italian. i think A may know a tiny bit of greek
28. What do you have in common with your TC? B and I both had pets at one point and A and i went to the same School (he left a couple years before i joined)
29. Have you texted/messaged your TC? I’ve messaged A multiple times! I’ve only emailed the others
30. What is the most frequent TC daydream you play in your head? Me cuddling with them
31. If you could only say one more sentence to your TC before graduation, what would it be?  "I will miss you a fuck ton"

January TC Challenge
Day 1: Happy New Year! Any hopes for the new year? (TC or non TC related?)
I hope C and I will continue to keep in touch like we have done until now and that I get to see him more than once or twice this year 💀
Day 2: Do you have any nicknames/codenames that you call your TC? Do they have any they call you?
I call him C on here and he calls my normal name, which always makes me a little sad because he really likes giving people nicknames and even once said he’d think of one for me but never did, and he never once used my common nickname which many people do (even Incas Lily does).
Day 3: Describe the moment you knew they were more than just another teacher.
To be honest even on the first day we met him as the head of our programme, I suspected that he would become an important figure to me, just not to the extent that he ended up being. A week before we had our first 'talk', I was feeling particularly bad while at school and suddenly had an all-consuming urge to be hugged and held by either him or Incas Lily. I was near his office then and intentionally walked past it just to look at him. I didn't know why he suddenly carried so much emotional significance to me, but I just really wanted to talk to him – it's a little surreal that, just a week later, it happened.
Day 4: Do they decorate their classroom much? What does it look like?
He doesn’t have a classroom, but he decorates his office a little bit. Nothing too extra.
Day 5: What's the age gap? Did you ever think you would fall for someone that much older? Are you comfortable with the age gap?
14 years, which is fine, and it really feels like less. He once told me that he had always just talked to me like another adult, which was really, really nice.
Day 6: Describe the first time you saw/met them. How did you meet? What was it like? Were you automatically attracted or did it take some time?
I met him on the first day of school last year, he was new to our school and coming in as the head of our programme. He left a very good first impression with us; even though he’s not physically 'my type', I liked his energy and how reliable he seemed and the way he interacted with us.
Day 7: Do you plan on keeping contact with your TC after graduation? How do you plan on doing it? If you're graduated, have you kept in contact? How have you managed that?
I have graduated and kept in contact! We email back and forth once every two months or so now, and he is the only TC whom I actually feel good about keeping in touch with (i.e. he doesn’t make me hate myself every time I reach out, unlike with Incas Lily). He had casually alluded to us keeping in touch for a long time into the future, and I really hope he meant it.
Day 8: Is there something that tends to remind you of them? Like a sport, food, animal, etc…?
The main sports he plays always remind me of him, the niche shared interest that we have always remind me of him, and things to do with education also do because we’ve talked about it a lot.
Day 9: Do you have a memory you are particularly fond of with your TC? Any cute stories?
I have soooo many good memories with him I literally can’t choose. The three-hour talk we had the last time I saw him was easily one of the best. A more random cute interaction was when we walked up three flights of stairs together after one of our meetings, and we were just casually talking about food on our way, laughing and all; I loved walking together with him and loved the little conversation.
Day 10: Have you ever touched your TC? Like a hug or a brush of the hand?
Yesss we’ve never accidentally touched but we have shaken hands three times and hugged twice.
Day 11: How often do you talk to them? Do you talk to them outside of school?
Almost every school day from the middle of March to when we graduated, and now we email every one or two months. I’ve never seen him outside of school (except during our grad dinner ofc) but I guess our emails now are technically talking outside of school?
Day 12: Have you ever had any previous TC's? What were they like?
As this blog has documented, I have had many other TCs, but C is one of the only who had never taught me, and we got to have the closest relationship.
Day 13: If it were to happen, how do you imagine the perfect kiss going down with your TC? If by chance you have kissed your TC, how did it happen?
I don’t have strong romantic feelings for him and I adore his wife, so I probably wouldn’t want to kiss him. If it did happen, though, I would imagine it to have been at the end of one of our long talks. We’re both stood up after having casual and heartfelt conversations for an hour, and I’m awkwardly trying to thank him like usual, expressing how much everything he has done means to me. Maybe we’d fall into a short silence, and one of us would lean in to the other for a kiss, his hand gently on my waist to steady me, as natural and tender as a couple kissing goodbye.
Day 14: Do you truly believe there is a chance that they're interested in you? Has anyone else pointed out that maybe you're special to your TC?
I am special to C. I know it, and he has said things to that effect. He’s definitely not interested romantically, which I’m perfectly fine with.
Day 15: Have you ever gotten them a gift? If so, what was it?
I've gotten C so many gifts, mostly small snacks (and mostly chocolate) because he said he really likes food. At the end of the school year, I also gave him some things related to the niche interest that the two of us share, and he seemed really happy.
Day 16: If you're in their class, what are your grades like?
He doesn’t teach us, which is probably for the best since I’m pretty bad at it.
Day 17: If you had to pick one feature about them, physical or personality, what would be your favorite?
There is genuinely so much to love about C. The thing that first made him stand out to me was how much interest he showed all of us – he wanted to listen to our feedback, he wanted to know more about our lives, he wanted to share in our achievements and give us support where we needed it. I’m always drawn to teachers who seem like they really care.
Day 18: Do you know of anything they do outside of work? What do they enjoy doing in their free time?
He plays sports, walks his dog, listens to podcasts, spends time with friends, and I think he mentioned he occasionally games. Like, a person with a well-balanced life with hobbies and is happy and healthy??
Day 19: What goes on for you when you see them? How does your body react?
I didn’t tend to be nervous when I saw him (which was a good thing), it usually made me feel excited or comforted to see him. Sometimes I did struggle a little with our dynamic and my body would literally tense up when seeing him, but it didn’t happen often.
Day 20: What have you done, or what would you do, to spend more time with them? Join a club/sport they're in charge of? Sign up for an extra class they teach?
He doesn’t have the time to run clubs (and I suck too much at the sports he does anyways), but I did do stuff like sitting in on one of his workshops with a lower year group when he invited us.
Day 21: How often do you dream about them? What do the dreams usually consist of?
Maybe not as often as I would expect with TCs, but I remember dreams about him quite well. Before I left school it was usually some kind of twist on normal interactions, now I sometimes dream of being back home and seeing him again or being in the past. I dreamed that we were in a relationship two nights in a row a few weeks ago.
Day 22: What's a little detail you've noticed about them that you aren't even sure they're aware of? Do they run their hand through their hair often? Do they subconsciously bite their lip?
I don’t get to observe C as much as listening to him talk about himself, so I’m not sure about what he’s not aware of. I did find it cute that whenever he was trying to exaggerate with a number to make a point or just be funny, he often chose the same specific number.
Day 23: If they weren't a teacher, what do you think they should be?
Probably an athlete, but I think his goodness would be wasted in a professional sport environment – the same way it would for T and S, who are also both great at sport but are also both so much more than that.
Day 24: Do you think other people in your school may have feelings towards them too? Why?
On one hand I can’t imagine other students having romantic feelings towards him (even I, who have been attracted to no less than ten teachers over seven years, didn’t have much romantic feelings), but he’s just such an objectively good person. The absolute joy in his being, how reliable he is, his compassion, how he always listens and initiates conversations… It’s so hard not to love him.
Day 25: What are their classes like? Do they talk a lot? Is it mostly independent work? Are there a lot of notes?
I’ve never been in his class, and he doesn’t really teach a content-based subject.
Day 26: How would you describe their personality?
He's very extroverted, conscientious, logical, and organised. He really values building connections with people and can be a bit of a people pleaser (like me). He's really reliable and always finds solutions.
Day 27: What's the weirdest thing they've ever worn?
This is so specific- it was like a kilt, but a bad one, so it looked more like a picnic blanket draped around him, which was really funny.
Day 28: What's something you don't quite fancy about them? A quirk you find odd? A physical trait that you aren't a fan of?
This is just something that messed with my head a lot back when I was still quite unsure of our dynamic – when he greets students in the corridors, especially me, he almost never uses our names. Like, he definitely knows our names, but when other teachers usually say things like "hi [J]", he only says hello or morning, and it used to sound dismissive to me, as if he didn’t actually see me.
Day 29: How long have you had a crush on them?
Crush is probably not accurate, but I’ve had feelings™️ for almost a year now.
Day 30: Write a poem (short or long) about your TC.
I lost my ability to write poetry after T left :( I like to think that it died with him.
Day 31: Do you have anyone in your life who knows about your TC? Anyone you can talk to?
My closest friends know I was having those talks with C and that I have feelings, but probably not just how attached I am. For some reason, I think they feel a little more weird about my attachment to C than they did my crush on T and Incas Lily.

June TC Challenge!
1. Do you think your TC will teach you next year?
Nope 😭 I did sign up for his class but they decided not to do that class next year so.
2. If you had to move to another city, how would you tell your TC? Would you confess to them?
I would probably just tell him right away lol but I would probably not confess.
3. Have you ever written a letter to your TC? If no, would you ever do that and what would be in it? If yes, what did you write?
I did write one! I was just telling him how much I appreciate him and that I felt like I didn’t tell him that enough considering how many times he’s told me.
4. Are you attracted to your TC in a more emotional or sexual way? Or both?
More so in an emotional way tbh.
5. How did you meet your TC? Do you remember your first conversation?
Well I met him in his class obv but our first actual conversation was like a week later bc be came up to me during my schools sporting event and asked if I wanted to walk around and talk with him for a while 😄.
6. Have you ever had a serious problem because you had a TC? If not, what problem could you have?
No & Maybe people could have problems with the amount of attention that he gives me compared to others.
7. Have you ever had an argument with your TC?
Nope
8. Do you see your TC outside of school?
No!
9. On a scale of 1-10, how badly do you want to kiss your TC?

Goodbye 2022, you were a good one
It is January 2nd 2023 - at least for the next 42 minutes.
I’ve posted a lot of pictures but no real updates about life. So here’s a little catch-up on how the rest of 2022 went.
I guess I should start with the fact that today marks 6 months of being with Carlos. I’ve never been happier. I love our love so much. We’re so good together and to each other, and we both say exactly what’s going on in our heads to the other. It feels so comfortable, I am forever going to be in awe that I found this kind of love. I never thought I was worthy of it. We had so many adventures and we’ve already discussed our future adventures this upcoming year, safe to say I cannot wait. More camping, more off-road adventures, all the things I used to do alone but now with the love of my life.
Kayli is moving in in March. Jesse is moving out and I know there’s a whole post about that so I won’t go on and on but I think us not living together anymore will be for the best. I’m excited to revamp the apartment, and to see Kayli more, and just have fun hangs. Most of our hangs have been in my apartment anyway so now she just won’t have to drive home. I feel like the vibes are just going to get so dang cozy.
I am a godmother now. Kristine gave birth on 11/11/22 to Mikaela Aviana Charlton. She was suppose to be born a Sagittarius but she decided to arrive early and be a Scorpio with a Gemini moon. I truly cannot wait for her to grow into a little person with her own personality. I flew home for a weekend just to meet her and spend time with Kristine and Rae. They are really killing the parenting game, and give me some hope that I can do it too but I know I wouldn’t be able to do it without Carlos. Carlos is like Rae in that he’s the calm chill parent and that’s exactly what I need to balance me out. Kristine seems so happy though, she’s become so emotional since becoming a mom and I absolutely love to see it.
I hosted thanksgiving and christmas at the apartment. It was just for Carlos and his roommates but still. It was so exciting and fun. I was very awkward on Thanksgiving but then Christmas was a breeze. I really love cooking for so many people and watching them love what I’ve made. Thanksgiving was a roasted chicken, Roasted vegetables, honey butter rolls, green bean casserole, stuffing, pumpkin pie, and apple sauce cake. Christmas was roast beef, onions au jus, Asparagus with whipped feta, mashed potatoes, more honey butter rolls, maple carrots, and a gingerbread cake.
Christmas in general was a hit. We celebrated noche buena at Carlos’ and he made Dominican food which was delicious. I could not stay up to midnight without napping. It’s going to be a challenge in future years, I can already tell. But Carlos got me a knife sharpener as his joke gift because I always have dull knives, a pet cam to watch Lilith while I’m away, and a pinned death’s-head hawkmoth. And his roommate’s got me gifts too which was the sweetest. He loved my gifts for him as well - a purple TC Tugger shirt (made by me), a personalized cookie tin with never ending refills, and a gold chain. He hasn’t taken the chain off since I gave it to him and it makes me so happy that he really likes it.
My birthday was also a good day. While I got the birthday sads the day before and found myself sobbing for no real reason, my actual birthday went well. I reserved brunch at the Lumber Baron Inn and we ended up being the only guests which was very fun. Then we went to the Kirkland Museum of Fine and Decorative art which was just so cool, and then the Denver Nature and Science Museum which was also very cool. Their Gem and Mineral exhibit is so freaking cool. And then we had dinner at Ocean Prime. I thought it would be a nice cap off to the year since that is where I went in January for my first solo dinner.
I could gab on more and more but now it’s only January 2nd for 16 more minutes and I’m quite tired. But it’s safe to say 2022 has been a great time and I’m excited for what the next year holds.

How Justin Trudeau lost his grip (Politico) Justin Trudeau could lose Canada’s next election because he’s just not as angry as the country he leads. The prime minister has been getting smoked in the polls. His rival is a savvy and fiery conservative dismissed at the outset by Trudeau’s inner circle as too cantankerous for mainstream appeal. In the year since taking over Canada’s Conservatives, Pierre Poilievre has tapped grievance politics and assembled a coalition of populists, social conservatives and center-right moderates that would make him the favorite if a vote were held any time soon. Conservatives sit ahead of Trudeau’s Liberals with a 10-point lead. Poilievre likes to repeat that “Canada is broken.” High inflation, runaway grocery prices, rising mortgage rates and a housing crisis help make the case. Canadians are worn out, anxious and mad. But it’s not just the politics of far-right fury that’s tripping up Trudeau. Fallout from the Israel-Hamas war is hitting hard in key swing ridings where the divisive issue has become a litmus test for the Liberals’ progressive agenda. The public mood continues to sour. And there’s no break in sight as the economy flirts with a recession.
Violent political threats surge as 2024 begins, haunting American democracy (Washington Post) Rusty Bowers, a former speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives who played a pivotal role in resisting efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, drove into his neighborhood east of Phoenix the day after Christmas to a spine-chilling scene. His home, nestled off a dirt road in an unincorporated slice of the desert, was surrounded by sheriff’s deputies. An unknown caller had reported that there was a pipe bomb inside and that a woman had been murdered. After searching the house and questioning Bowers’s wife and grandson, according to Bowers and authorities, sheriff’s deputies determined that neither claim was true. The incident of swatting, a prank call to emergency services designed to draw a law enforcement response, wasn’t just a terrifying moment for Bowers and his family. It was one of many violent threats and acts of intimidation that have defined the lives of various government officials since the 2020 election. And now they are casting a shadow over the 2024 campaign as Americans prepare to vote in a primary season that kicks off this month.
Ecuador hunkers down for a government war on drug gangs (AP) Schools and stores sat shuttered, many people stayed home and soldiers roamed the streets of Ecuador’s biggest cities Wednesday, the day after armed men invaded a television station’s live afternoon newscast and the president told the security forces to wipe out the drug gangs terrorizing the country. The group wielding explosives and guns flashed across the televisions of Ecuadorians for 15 minutes on Tuesday as the intruders threatened and assaulted employees of the TC Televisión network’s station in the city of Guayaquil. No one was killed and 13 suspects were arrested, but the violent broadcast stunned much of the region—and elicited a wide-ranging government response. President Daniel Noboa issued a decree saying his country was in an “internal armed conflict” and designated 20 drug-trafficking gangs as terrorist groups that the military had authorization to “neutralize” within the bounds of international humanitarian law.
IMF unlocks $4.7bn for Argentina amid economic crisis (Al Jazeera) Argentina and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have come to an agreement to release $4.7bn as part of a debt restructuring plan for the South American nation. Latin America’s third-biggest economy is facing harsh economic challenges after decades of debt and financial mismanagement, with inflation surpassing 160% year-on-year and 40% of Argentinians living in poverty.
There’s a toilet problem at Britain’s $64,000-a-year school for elites (Washington Post) England’s most famous all-boys boarding school, known for educating over a third of the country’s prime ministers and several of the royal family’s children, has an awkward problem to flush out. After heavy rain caused the local sewage system to flood, the school was forced to delay the start of in-person instruction after winter break, just as students were due to return. “Following extensive flooding in the region, the Thames Water sewers which serve the town of Eton flooded,” Eton College in Windsor, England, said in a statement. “Therefore boys could not return for the scheduled start of term on 9 January and the College has moved to remote teaching.” Read between the lines: The risk of clogged toilets was just too high. In an email to parents and guardians, reported on by Bloomberg News, school officials laid out the problem more simply. “The sewers in the centre of Eton won’t cope with the arrival of nearly 1,350 boys,” they said.
Austrian heiress Marlene Engelhorn announces plan for €25m giveaway (BBC) An Austrian-German heiress is setting up a citizens group to decide how she should give away much of the fortune she inherited from her grandmother. Marlene Engelhorn, who is 31 and lives in Vienna, wants 50 Austrians to determine how €25m ($27m) of her inheritance should be redistributed. Austria abolished inheritance tax in 2008, one of a handful of European countries that do not impose inheritance tax or death duties.
Ukraine’s president in Estonia on swing through Russia’s Baltic neighbors (AP) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was in the capital of Estonia on Thursday for meetings with the country’s leaders on the second day of trip through the small Baltic states, where concern is high about aggression from neighboring Russia. Zelenskyy arrived in Tallinn late Wednesday after beginning his Baltic swing in Lithuania. He is to meet with Estonia’s president and prime minister and address the parliament before heading to Latvia. He said Ukraine still must bolster its air defenses against Russia’s intensified missile and drone onslaughts and replenish its ammunition supplies as long-range strikes become the main feature of this winter’s fighting. The massive Russian barrages—more than 500 drones and missiles were fired between Dec. 29 and Jan. 2, according to officials in Kyiv—are using up Ukraine’s weapons stockpiles. The escalation is stretching Ukraine’s air defense resources and leaving the country vulnerable unless it can secure further weapons supplies.
Iraq seeks quick exit of US forces but no deadline set, PM says (Reuters) raq wants a quick and orderly negotiated exit of U.S-led military forces from its soil but has not set a deadline, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said, describing their presence as destabilising amid regional spillover from the Gaza war. Longstanding calls by mostly Shi’ite Muslim factions, many close to Iran, for the U.S-led coalition’s departure have gained steam after a series of U.S. strikes on Iran-linked militant groups that are also part of Iraq’s formal security forces. Those strikes, which came in response to dozens of drone and missile attacks on U.S. forces since Israel launched its Gaza campaign, have raised fears that Iraq could once again become a theatre for regional conflict.
Chinese PLA-linked vessels map the Indian Ocean for submarine warfare (Washington Post) Chinese research vessels with ties to the People’s Liberation Army are conducting sweeping surveys of the undersea floor in the Indian Ocean, collecting data that could be crucial in deploying submarines in a region that is a critical energy supply line for Beijing in the event of a war with Taiwan. A new analysis of hundreds of thousands of hours of shipping data since 2020 by the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies shows that the Indian Ocean is fast becoming one of the biggest domains for Chinese oceanic surveys, which are ostensibly civilian in nature but tied to the PLA and Beijing’s military-civil fusion program—a national strategic plan to advance China’s military by acquiring technology and research from civilian groups. The types of ocean surveys carried out by the vessels have research applications for energy resources and marine environments, but the data collected can also be used for military purposes, analysts say, including how to maneuver and obscure submarines during conflict.
Papua New Guinea: At least 15 dead after major rioting and looting (BBC) A state of emergency has been declared in Papua New Guinea's capital after at least 15 people were killed in rioting. More than 1,000 troops are on standby "to step in wherever necessary", Prime Minister James Marape said on Thursday. Shops and cars were torched and supermarkets looted after police went on strike on Wednesday over a pay cut the authorities say was a mistake. The unrest follows wider tensions in the Pacific Island nation over rising costs and high unemployment. The absence of police encouraged people from the capital's outskirts to ransack shops and cause wider destruction, locals told the BBC.
At World Court, Israel to Confront Accusations of Genocide (NYT) The International Court of Justice, the United Nations’ highest judicial body, will begin hearings this week in a case brought by South Africa that accuses Israel of committing genocide in Gaza. The hearings, the first step in a lengthy process should the case go forward, will be the first time that Israel has chosen to defend itself, in person, in such a setting, attesting to the gravity of the indictment and the high stakes for its international reputation and standing. Genocide, the term first employed by a Polish lawyer of Jewish descent in 1944 to describe the Nazis’ systematic murder of about six million Jews and others based on their ethnicity, is among the most serious crimes of which a country can be accused. South Africa, whose post-apartheid government has long supported the Palestinian cause, accused Israel of actions in Gaza against Hamas that are “genocidal in character.” It says Israel has killed Palestinian civilians, inflicted serious bodily and mental harm, and created for the residents of Gaza “conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction.” The allegation, which Israel categorically denies, is laden with a particular significance in Israel, a country founded in the wake of the near wholesale destruction of European Jewry.
US, British militaries launch massive retaliatory strike against Houthis in Yemen (AP) The U.S. and British militaries bombed more than a dozen sites used by the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen on Thursday, in a massive retaliatory strike using warship- and submarine-launched Tomahawk missiles and fighter jets, U.S. officials said. The U.S. Air Force’s Mideast command said it struck over 60 targets at 16 sites in Yemen, including “command-and-control nodes, munitions depots, launching systems, production facilities and air defense radar systems.” President Joe Biden said the strikes were meant to demonstrate that the U.S. and its allies “will not tolerate” the militant group’s ceaseless attacks on the Red Sea. The strikes marked the first U.S. military response to what has been a persistent campaign of drone and missile attacks on commercial ships since the start of the Israel-Hamas war.
Somalia’s militant Shabab capture downed U.N. helicopter, at least 1 dead (Washington Post) The al-Qaeda-linked Islamist insurgent group al-Shabab seized the crew of a U.N. helicopter that made an emergency landing in Somalia on Wednesday, said two people based in Mogadishu who work with international organizations. Al-Shabab set the helicopter on fire and seized most crew members after the aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in the central Galguduud region, a Western official told The Washington Post. A Mogadishu-based official said four Europeans and five Africans were onboard. One crew member was reportedly killed, two were unaccounted for and may have escaped, and the rest were taken captive, he said. The United Nations provides logistical and medical support to the 17,500-strong African Union peacekeeping force in Somalia. An official with the force said no peacekeeping troops were on the helicopter.
Hundreds dead as Congo River basin submerged by generational floods (Reuters) The Congo River has risen to its highest level in more than 60 years, causing flooding throughout the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Congo Republic that has killed more than 300 people over the past months, according to authorities. Poor urban planning and weak infrastructure have made some African countries vulnerable to flash floods after intense rains. Several neighbourhoods in DRC’s densely populated Kinshasa have flooded, as well as communities in more than a dozen provinces, the social affairs ministry said. Nearly 300 people have died and 300,000 households have been affected, with tens of thousands of houses destroyed, it said in a statement last week.

Think tank: Pressure from Emirates could pull Sudan back from edge of abyss In brief:
SPLM-North, led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu, has agreed to meet with the civilian anti-war coalition known as Tagadum, and proposed an agenda for discussion.
RSF troops allegedly shot at a crowd of civilians Tuesday in the town of al-Ma’iliq, which is halfway between Khartoum and Wad Madani, killing one civilian and injuring others, according to Emergency Lawyers.
RSF soldiers claimed they downed a drone in Khartoum yesterday
A fight between members of the Rapid Support Forces resulted in the killing of two troops in Arkaweet neighborhood of Hassahissa in Jezira State, according to the Hassahissa Resistance Committees.
Leaders of two Darfur armed groups, Al-Tahir Hajar (GSLF) and Al-Hadi Idriss (SLM-TC), have arrived back in El Fasher, North Darfur, following international travels. Sources affiliated with the two movements denied rumors that they intended to negotiate the evacuation of the army garrison from El Fasher. Both of these leaders were expelled from the Sovereignty Council by SAF Commander-in-Chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, after they refused to take sides in the ongoing war.
The International Food Policy Research Institute has published a research paper about the impact of the war on smallholder farmers, based on a survey of thousands of farmers. Among the conclusions: “The most notable challenge that prevented farmers from planting was the lack of finance to buy agricultural inputs such as seeds and fertilizers or to hire farm labor. The cost of inputs, especially improved seeds, is… (now) higher for most farmers across the country.”
Fighting in the Kadroo area of Khartoum Bahri resulted in several deaths among combatants on January 8, according to videos from the area. Fighting also has intensified in central Omdurman; we will publish a map with more details soon.
As reported by Ayin (report in Arabic), thousands of cancer patients face an unknown fate after the closure of the National Cancer Institute in Wad Madani, which treated not only local patients but also many patients who had fled fighting in Khartoum. The cancer statement shut down last month after the Rapid Support Forces attacked and pillaged the city. Only one hospital in Sudan still provides chemotherapy and and hormonal treatment services: Merowe Medical City.

FE: Pre-Season Testing Wraps Up in Valencia
The high-octane thrill of Formula E racing roared to life at the conclusion of the pre-season testing in Valencia, Spain, setting the stage for an electrifying 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The test sessions at Circuit Ricardo Tormo witnessed exhilarating performances, with 19 drivers logging fastest laps within a breathtakingly close 0.7-second window.
Fresh off the track, the event marked the only occasion before the championship's kickoff in Mexico City on January 13, bringing together all 22 drivers and 11 teams for a dynamic preview of what's to come.
A cumulative total of 4,960 laps and 16,745 kilometers were clocked by drivers and rookies alike during the pre-season testing. Notably, Gabriela Jílkova etched her name in history as the first woman to maneuver the GEN3 car, completing a 46-lap run for TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team.
The competition roared into action right from the get-go. Mitch Evans of Jaguar TCS Racing set a blistering pace in the initial session, outpacing the 2022 record by more than half a second. However, the spotlight soon shifted to Nick Cassidy, making his Jaguar debut by seizing the fastest lap time on Friday, leaving an indelible mark and pushing Evans to intensify the rivalry within the team.
Jaguar's formidable presence and their challenge to claim the top spot before the season's start in Mexico City only add to the brewing excitement. The battle for supremacy between teammates in the same garage hints at a gripping narrative awaiting Formula E enthusiasts.
The testing also included a 10-hour session that featured a 27-lap race simulation. Teams and drivers underwent a comprehensive test of a full race program, encompassing fast-charging pit stops, caution periods, and Safety Car maneuvers, adding depth to their preparations.
Envision Racing's Robin Frijns showcased impressive form, leading the pack at the chequered flag, closely followed by competitors like Antonio Felix da Costa and Evans, reflecting the intense competition among the seasoned drivers.
Noteworthy performances by newcomers injected an extra spark into the sessions. Rookie Barnard, behind the wheel of Sam Bird's NEOM McLaren, blazed the track to claim a top spot, setting a time that rivaled last year's fastest lap at Valencia.
Despite challenges faced by teams, such as Mahindra Racing contending with equipment damage due to a pit lane fire, the resilience and dedication exhibited by drivers throughout the testing bode well for an enthralling season ahead.
As the dust settles in Valencia and the countdown begins to the season opener in Mexico City, the Formula E paddock braces for what promises to be a fiercely contested and unpredictable championship, leaving fans on the edge of their seats.

Best-in-class customer service
In the highly competitive airline industry, it is not easy to stand out. Customers are more often than not upset by challenging and disappointing experiences – flight delays, long lines at security, bad food, crying babies, and the list goes on and on.
Singapore Airlines astutely introduced the Transforming Customer Service (TCS) program in January 2000. This allowed Singapore airlines to supercharge how the entire organization managed customer service and helped drive significant improvement in customer feedback and expectations.
Good customer service in the airline industry can manifest itself in many ways. It includes (but is not limited to) the friendliness of the staff, the responsiveness of customer support when you phone in or email about a problem, and the tastiness of the food presented while on the plane. Flying should be a unique experience that passengers can enjoy and truly cherish. Airlines such as Singapore Airlines that seek to curate the flying experience for its passengers stand to benefit in the long-run. In an environment where airlines continue to cut costs, I think luxury airlines should continue to invest capital into effective customer service programs and if they do, will continue to benefit from this long term.

European Insurers Turn to Partners as Challenges Mount

European Insurers Turn to Partners as Challenges Mount. Crisis conditions since 2020 have increased demand for services to modernize technology, products and business models, ISG Provider Lens™ report says. LONDON, January 16, 2023 - Insurance companies in Europe are navigating increasingly difficult business conditions with the help of service providers that understand the industry’s many challenges and partner closely with insurers, according to a new research report published today by Information Services Group (ISG) (Nasdaq: III), a leading global technology research and advisory firm. The 2022 ISG Provider Lens™ Insurance Services report for Europe finds that rising claims in the early part of the COVID-19 pandemic were followed by a series of other impacts on the insurance industry, including inflation, geopolitical uncertainties, cyberattacks and property damage from climate-related disasters. Insurers in Europe and other regions now face a state of “permacrisis,” the report says. “European insurers are facing challenging market conditions,” said Anna Medkouri, ISG partner and insurance lead in EMEA. “In addition to contending with a difficult business environment, they need better technology to adapt to new ways of working, new regulations and new consumer expectations.” Among new, digital-native customers, preferences are shifting from commodity off-the-shelf insurance products to more personalized offerings, ISG says. Companies are working with providers to implement platforms for developing targeted products using AI and machine learning. This ongoing process requires insurers to reinvent processes, business models and even company culture, so they are seeking providers with expertise in consulting and transformation in addition to traditional BPO. The 2022 ISG Provider Lens™ Insurance Services report for Europe evaluates the capabilities of 33 providers across three quadrants: Life and Retirement Insurance BPO Services, Property and Casualty Insurance BPO Services and Insurance ITO Services. The report names Accenture, Cognizant and TCS as Leaders in all three quadrants. It names Genpact, Infosys and WNS as Leaders in two quadrants each. Atos, Capgemini, CGI, EXL, NTT DATA, Tech Mahindra and Wipro are named as Leaders in one quadrant each. Sorry again for being inactive, here are my last answers for January TC challenge💜
Day 22: What’s a little detail you’ve noticed about them that you aren’t even sure they’re aware of? Do the run their hand through their hair often? Do they subconsciously bite their lip?
I don't know if he's aware of it but he ALWAYS crosses his legs, never seen him sitting straight, always legs crossed🥰
Day 23: If they weren’t a teacher, what do you think they should be?
I know that he's been an Art Director for documentary movies and he generally worked behind the camera. He told me he regrets not becoming a real photographer that he had just learned all the basics in a course and now when he walks through photographic exhibitions he wishes he would have done this properly🤍
Day 24: Do you think other people in your school may have feelings towards them too? Why?
Actually...no. Most students don't like him and his subject. His personality is really extra and many don't understand this. But since the new school year there is a new female student that I catched talking with him a lot, even after lessons...which made me worry a little tho
Day 25: What are their classes like? Do they talk a lot? Is it mostly independent work? Are there a lot of notes?
He talks NON STOP which I personally love! The class still requires independent work a lot so we had also days where we didn't even get to see him cause we filmed or took pictures outside!📸
Day 26: How would you describe their personality?
Humorous...like his jokes are so bad that they are funny already, really smart, a typical know-all...sometimes a bit too much, in need of harmony, high sense of justice, ambitious, fond of children...when he talks about his daughters he's so full of love, a little awkward, just a bit stuffy🤗
Day 27: What’s the weirdest thing they’ve ever worn?
Well nothing he wears is weird, he dresses very youthfull for his age but the "weirdest" things were a red hoodie with a black fish on it and shoes where his initials were printed in golden letters🤭
Day 28: What’s something you don’t quite fancy about them? A quirk you find odd? A physical trait that you aren’t a fan of?
He seems to be a very picky eater and doesn't eat sugar at all...he tries to avoid sugery foods at all costs...that is something I actually don't quite fancy about him🥴 That makes it really hard to buy him presents that are not that expensive tho...
Day 29: How long have you had a crush on them?
In a few days it's exactly two years🥲
Day 30: Write a poem (short or long) about your TC.
Violet, so passionate and kind Violet, so attractive and beautiful in mind Violet, so mysterious and magical Violet, so forbidden and untouchable💜
Day 31: Do you have anyone in your life who knows about your TC? Anyone you can talk to?
I have a very understanding environment. I told everyone I'm close to. Most of them support and understand, some try to convince me it's wrong, some just don't mind but none of them were weirded out, I'm very lucky with that! And no one would ever tell him or tell anyone else🦋

January TC Challenge Day 18-31
Posting the rest of these while you wait for my TC story posts!! I’m going to begin writing them after I finish this. At least….for the days I end up remembering well. Haha! Enjoy !! ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Day 18: Do you know of anything they do outside of work? What do they enjoy doing in their free time?
M - He watches football games and scrolls around on Reddit. Haha. He also told the band that he constantly has our program playing in the background so he can take it all in. That’s all I remember off the top of my head.
W - I don’t know! He spends time with his kids but that’s all I remember. Haha.
Day 19: What goes on for you when you see them? How does your body react?
Hahaha, ummmm!!!
M - When I see M, there is an immediate feeling of surprise and a flood of butterflies in my chest coming from absolutely nowhere. A smile immediately settles on my face upon spotting him. It’s a feeling of happiness, excitement, and admiration.
W - I get more excited than anything. Just to talk to that guy since I know him quite a bit.
Day 20: What have you done, or what would you do, to spend more time with them? Join a club/sport they’re in charge of? Sign up for an extra class they teach?
M - Back in my early crushing days, I would stay after class on most days to tell M to have a nice day, then hug him. Now I just try to make it earlier to events we have scheduled so I can have a potential chat with him.
W - I mean, I would go to the class early from lunch if I ever had the chance! I don’t quite remember what else I did aside from asking him questions and stuff after class— not as much though.
Day 21: How often do you dream about them? What do the dreams usually consist of?
M - Once every two or so weeks. We usually chat briefly in these dreams, but during those rare times we would kiss, I was so happy.
W - Once a month? The dreams either contain chatting or me getting a mini heart attack just seeing him stand there. Haha.
Day 22: What’s a little detail you’ve noticed about them that you aren’t even sure they’re aware of? Do the run their hand through their hair often? Do they subconsciously bite their lip?
M - M will either bite or purse his lips whenever he’s in deep thought. He also runs his hand across his head when he’s conversing as well.
W - W will also run his hand through his hair sometimes when he’s talking. I sort of forgot everything else, haha.
Day 23: If they weren’t a teacher, what do you think they should be?
M - A motivational speaker. That guy brings me to tears every time he starts one of his bigger speeches. He’s so moving.
W - I’m actually not too sure! He said he’s very invested in history and almost became a history teacher, so maybe he would do something correlating with that.
Day 24: Do you think other people in your school may have feelings towards them too? Why?
M - Oh, one-hundred percent. M is the most charismatic, caring, beautiful, and talented person in the universe. It would be insane to think no one else has liked him before—student OR teacher. I have seen other students smile and laugh a lot around him, as well as get shy, so I think I have some reasons to believe this too. Haha.
W - I’m not too sure. As opposed to M, the majority, if not all people would choose M. At least, that was what seemed to be the case last year. I think a ton of people are more interested in spontaneous, playful wild cards like W, though, so I’m sure he has some other people crushing on him as well.
Day 25: What are their classes like? Do they talk a lot? Is it mostly independent work? Are there a lot of notes?
M - M usually deals with bigger announcements at the beginning of class, which will last around five to ten minutes at most. Afterwards, it’s the usual shabang; twenty minutes of warmup since we have the time, then we dive into our concert music. After each rep, he gives advice to the sections, then we play again, as per usual.
Occasionally, M will stop and tell us an entertaining story from “back in his day” or something of the sort, when he was young and stupid. Or the tale would be a more recent one. Maybe he’d make fun of one of the students. It’s a love language. Nonetheless, the band would always get a good laugh from it. ^^ There’s always something to look forward to.
W - W’s classes were usually more slower-paced as opposed to M’s, since he would often get off topic as well and ramble about. He would tell us either a funny or really bad dad joke, a story from his past, or something similar. He would also get some laughs out of us.
Day 26: How would you describe their personality?
M - M is a witty, sarcastic, genuine, and work-driven kind of person. He always has a goal in mind that he aims to reach. He does everything he can to make sure everyone is comfortable and truly happy in their community. He really does care about and wants the best for everyone, even if his serious personality may not seem like it.
W - As stated beforehand, he’s more spontaneous, playful, and sort of a wild-card. He tends to be more cheerful, but he can hop from that to blank-faced and serious in a snap.
Day 27: What’s the weirdest thing they’ve ever worn?
M - HE WORE A DOG SUIT FOR A FUNDRAISER AND IT WAS THE FUNNIEST THING!!! Every time I look at any of the pictures taken of it, I smile so hard.
W - A pure neon outfit. Neon pink shirt, neon green pants, neon green and blue tennis shoes. It was just awful. Hahaha.
Day 28: What’s something you don’t quite fancy about them? A quirk you find odd? A physical trait that you aren’t a fan of?
M - He is very upfront and brutally honest with people. There are times when he tries to motivate people in a way that he would be motivated from when he was younger, but it actually doesn’t do anything but hurt the person. Of course, he is the most genuinely kind person I know, but sometimes this stuff happens and it just hurts me to see it.
W - He doesn’t think before he speaks at times, and it’s sort of irritating. He’ll butt into random conversations without reading the room, and though he is very talkative, it just….makes me cringe.
Day 29: How long have you had a crush on them?
M - More than three years. It’s so crazy. Three years and about eight months now if I’m being exact.
W - WHAT?? It’s been a year now! A year and almost three months. That’s crazy.
Day 30: Write a poem (short or long) about your TC.
Here goes.
~~
M
A band director
Merely another person in my life
One that would teach me
Like so many others did before.
I’m sure neither one of us
Would have even imagined
That we would go through so much
In such little time.
I truly believe that
You are a saint on Earth
And I am so glad
God destined for us to meet.
And even though
I’m sure
The feeling is not mutual,
I think that getting to meet you
And getting to know you
And getting to love you
Is the greatest thing
I ever got to do.
And even years later
I still find myself
Falling more and more
In love with you
Each day.
<3
~~
W
When I first met you
You struck me
As someone who was adjusting
To his new surroundings
And looking for a place
To truly belong.
When we talked to each other
And we asked each other questions
And we laughed together
I had left the building
With happy thoughts
Telling me that we
Were going to be great friends.
Never did I think
That after experiencing love
For the first time
That I would be
Falling down the same rabbit hole
Once more.
And in M’s absence
Though my love for him
Never once began to falter
I found myself
Falling in love
Yet again
With someone entirely different.
I began to fall in love
With you.
Day 31: Do you have anyone in your life who knows about your TC? Anyone you can talk to?
My sister knows about my TCs—mostly M. I never stop rambling about him to her, haha. I’m so grateful she’s there to listen to me. I suppose my mom also knows about M now, but I don’t usually talk to her about it.

Day 14: Do you truly believe there is a chance that they’re interested in you? Has anyone else pointed out that maybe you’re special to you’re TC?
Well definitely not romantically, but i could be her favourite (i hope?) and a friend has told me i'm probably her favourite so yeaaaaa
Day 15: Have you ever gotten them a gift? If so, what was it?
Two bars of of earl grey infused chocolate (i have no idea if she liked it though)
Day 16: If you’re in their class, what are your grades like?
They're pretty good. my class is a "stretch group" (aka top set) so everyone in my class gets 7s, 8s and 9s (1 is the bottom grade, 9 is the top grade)

January TC Challenge Part 1
Tumblr media
Day 1: Happy New Year! Any hopes for the new year? (TC or non TC related?)
Non TC related: that Corona will hopefully be over soon, stop biting my nails, getting my finances in order, (finally) going to therapy
TC related: starting to work for him at my/our university, doing research for and with him, getting to know more about him (but not in a creepy way, just casual conversation etc)
Day 2: Do you have any nicknames/codenames that you call your TC? Do they have any they call you?
Nope and nope. But it‘s fine that way, i‘m not really a fan of nicknames, at least not in this situation.
Day 3: Describe the moment you knew they were more than just another teacher.
Hmm. Hard question. I just slipped into it, there isn‘t one particular situation where i knew that he was more. It was his laugh, his silly humour, the way he explained things, the passion he has for his topic, his cute little face and fluffy hair, his thoughts about how people and society should be, the books he recommended, the way he talks, his cute chin, and so many little things i can even put into words 🥰
Day 4: Do they decorate their classroom much? What does it look like?
As he‘s my uni professor, he doesn‘t have his own class room. But i know that his office (from the videocalls bc corona) has a GIANT bookcase and i hope that one day, when i‘m able to visit him there in person, i can look at his books.
Day 5: What’s the age gap? Did you ever think you would fall for someone that much older? Are you comfortable with the age gap?
10 years. I‘m okay with it. Although it‘s the first time that i fell for someone older than me, i usually stay in my age group or go for younger people. 10 years is still pretty possible to actually accomplish but i‘m also a little scared that he finds me too childish and immature... (i‘m 23 on paper but only on paper)
Day 6: Describe the first time you saw/met them. How did you meet? What was it like? Were you automatically attracted or did it take some time?
The first time i met him was in winter 2019. i found him cute and liked his topic but nothing more and i eventually forgot about him. Then in November 2020 i met him again (online classes) and it took me 1 or 2 weeks and then i fell for him.
Day 7: Do you plan on keeping contact with your TC after graduation? How do you plan on doing it? If you’re graduated, have you kept in contact? How have you managed that?
As i will (probably) graduate in 2023 i still have a lot of time left. So i don‘t know in what situation we will be. But i hope that we‘ll be on good terms (maybe even friends??) and that i can stay in contact with him.
