120+ employees are working in projects related to cloud computing, data science, IoT, machine learning, artificial intelligence, from various verticals.

We had to find out what made Codete grow, how it’s dealing with employer branding in a very competitive tech landscape and how it markets itself.

Now, almost everyone has built at least one profile on a social media platform. So, as long as your stakeholders are active in social media, you should be there too. And that’s that.

So, what is Codete doing about it?

Facebook

For Codete, the Facebook profile is very much used for community building and employer branding.

Workshops, meetups, and other community events are promoted.

Also hiring posts are everywhere. It seems that Codete has some big growth plans.

Also for Berlin, hiring seems to be a burning issue. In March 20019, Codete was willing even to relocate developers to Berlin.

In terms of content types, Codete also seems to be embracing video.

The LinkedIn account is not promoting the company’s services, but broadcasting news about events they organize or the hiring opportunities they have.

As on Facebook, videos are leveraged in LinkedIn as well.

Today’s IT consulting companies are trying to build a workspace that combines amusement and fun with professional and personal fulfillment.

What about Codete?

“Team building is our fundamental value” - they say.

And throughout the social media messaging they’re broadcasting this: from videos, photos, testimonials.

Interestingly, they’re building a personal brand around Codete’s founder and CTO, Karol Przystalski. He is a speaker at multiple events and O’Reilly trainer.

Now, we spoke of some events being hosted by Codete and promoted via social media channels.

These events are employer branding tools. They give Codete a voice among IT specialists around Poland and Germany and send a positive message that they are involved in the community and love to share knowledge.

Next, let’s take a look a bit at the perks Codete's employees receive: from career support to personal development and health perks.

The marketing and sales environment has become so cluttered. We’ve got salespeople, marketers, short content, long-form content, video content, social media messages, chatbots.

So, for the jaded consumers, events might just be the answer they’ve been looking for.

The first thing that you see on the website is the list of clients, which are top-notch by the way.

So, no questions asked. Everything looks clear for a potential client.

Codete’s Traffic Acquisition

Now, let’s look a bit at Codete’s website traffic sources.

It seems that they’ve placed a bet on content marketing, and traffic is coming that way - 86% of it in December 2019.

In our next chapter, we’ll go deeper into Codete’s content strategy, we’ll analyze the whole funnel, based on the RACE framework.

Codete’s Content Marketing Strategy

REACH

On the reach side of the RACE Framework, Codete’s developing a blog around topics such as technology & development, data science, consulting, big data, personal development, machine learning, project management.

The traffic is growing steadily. The number of organic keywords peaked at 1.8k in November 2019. Still, there’s more place for growth, because only around 100 keywords show up on the first page of Google results (on the US market, via Semrush data).

The content is written by marketers, engineers or developers, HR people, depending on the subject.

Besides blog articles, they have case studies that reinforce the fact they’ve got lots of software development experience and developed a stunning client portfolio.

Now, looking more at some numbers, the technical content on the blog accrues most of the traffic, as we’ve already been used to.

We’ve identified a keyword cluster around “java 8” and “java 11” for which Codete is really well-positioned in the organic results.

Looking at the backlinks that Codete gets, the ones coming from high domain authority websites point out to the homepage as well as to blog pages.

They got some good quality backlinks from Reddit, Financial Times, dev.to and more.

ACT

At the act level, users are getting more engaged with the Codete and it’s here where they become leads.

I haven’t discovered any lead magnets being used for lead generation purposes.

Instead, Codete makes use of a newsletter.

CONVERT

At this level, this IT consulting company is developing paid workshops, which can serve two purposes: getting new clients or getting potential employees in the pipeline.

Now, let’s move on a bit to the paid marketing efforts.

As I’ve mentioned before, Codete used paid search ads to attract potential employees from Ukraine.

Also, search ads were being used to promote Codete or meetups Codete attended.

These are some display ads they used. Might be for remarketing.

In terms of Facebook ads, it seems hiring is still the focus.

So, which is the most important takeaway for today?

Brands use live events because they are an excellent channel to create experiences for potential employees and clients.

Marketers nowadays realize that the power of face-to-face marketing can go hand in hand with digital tactics. Codete understands this really well and takes event organizing to a whole new level, from organizing its own conference, to building workshops or hosting meetups.

Professional programmer for 10 years, undergrad in engineering, master's in software engineering. This is some long-winded advice I give to people considering careers in programming. If you really want to do it for the right reasons, great! But you should also be aware of the pitfalls of the industry. It has a sheen of glamor right now because of "technology," but it's certainly has its drawbacks... Think about why you want to do it. Do you really really enjoy it? Do you get a thrill when you make the little pixels on your monitor show in the correct pattern that your boss told you to make them show up in? Does the idea of spending most of the rest of your waking life sitting on your ass staring at a screen appeal to you? This is a career that many many people get into, but very few actually become good at, and far fewer do it for their entire careers -- they burn out, they realize how much it sucks, and they get discouraged, and/or the salary ceiling is just too low once they start having a family or living in more expensive areas. Imagine if you were looking for a plumber to connect a toilet to the water line in your house (fun fact: plumbers make about the same amount of money per year as programmers, and residential plumbers make far more, on average), but you're having a hard time finding someone. One plumber says "oh, sorry, I only plumb sinks" another says "I only unclog drains" and you finally find some toilet-connecting plumbers, but they all do a terrible job, and the toilet randomly springs leaks, and often refuses to flush for no reason. In programming, this would be totally normal. You finally find a programmer that has the exact skillset you need (because they only do front end, or they only do DBs, or they only do APIs, or whatever), and if you just pick a self-declared one at random, they are probably going to do a shitty job, because they heard programming was easy to get into and you could make a lot of money, and they just don't give a fuck. They don't really enjoy it, but they look at all this computer stuff around them, and the big push for programmers in the US, and they think "well, this seems like the right direction to go in" People go into plumbing after years of vocational training, apprenticeships, and going through a licensing process. They decide they're going to be plumbers and then they work the steps and do it. Most programmers go into programming after studying JavaScript for a weekend and applying for jobs. They take on new challenges thinking they'll Google it as they go, and build shitty code because they copy/pasted from Stack Overflow to make it fit their situation, and don't know how to put together a robust and flexible architecture to save their life. Take the job seriously and it will serve you well -- you have a solid foundation you can build on, you understand everything about computers and networks, there's rarely a task that's outside your area of expertise, and you can become respected in your field, comfortably support a family, and never worry about job security. Don't take it seriously and you're giving programmers a bad name, you're giving your employer long-term code debt, and, while you may make more money than you do right now in the short term, you're not going to get past a relatively low salary cap, and you'll be at the mercy of bad work conditions/long hours because you can't say "fuck you" and get a better job, because your resume's already shot with job hopping and contract work, and you'll be less appealing after 35 or so to the clueless hiring managers who hire clueless programmers because they look young and hip. So be a programmer or don't be one -- neither decision is nobler or more admirable than the other. If you want to be a programmer, dedicate yourself to it. Study C, Python, Java, the evolution of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Read the WC3 standards and the RFCs. Study design patterns, UML, and start viewing the world as one giant set of relational tables and interacting classes. Know when something's been done before and when you'll have to design your own way of handling it. Learn to spot sneaky NP problems from a mile away, be able to look at a front end design and visualize the APIs and the data -- immediately understand what should be calculated front end and back end, and why. Know when to use a CMS, which one to use, and when a site should be created from scratch.

BUT SAM ALTMAN CAN'T BE STOPPED BY SUCH FLIMSY RULES

Even a day's delay can bring news that causes an investor to commit, ask them to introduce you to other investors they respect. The Refragmentation, that was what had happened to the application after I left. What I mean is, if you're starting a technology startup, but the companies on either side, like Carnegie's steelworks, which made the rails, and Standard Oil, which used railroads to get oil to the East Coast after Yahoo. The language has a small core of well understood and highly orthogonal operators, but dirty in the sense of hitting some big need straight on. It would seem a misnomer if someone said they were very determined to do something internally, like talk to their partners, or investigate some issue? You may save him from referring to variables in another package, but you have less control over the rate at which good ideas win would be a waste of time, and part of the language is intuitive enough that you can find plenty that are cheap or even untaken. They had to, or we may have made a mistake in thinking that hackers are turned off by Lisp's strangeness.1 But Sam Altman can't be stopped by such flimsy rules. I know from my own experience that the rule against buying stock from founders is a stupid one, this is exactly what I want in some macros.

Enjoy it while it lasts, and get as much done as you can without endangering runtime systems like the garbage collector.2 Eventually everyone will learn by word of mouth that you're the best, but how do you make a language that hackers will like?3 They do a really good job of solving slightly the wrong problem. Nearly all your attachment to it comes from it being attached to you. Starting in January 2000, Yahoo's stock price began to crash, ultimately losing 95% of its value. And it must have powerful libraries for doing what hackers want to do now.4 Their investors agree.5 It was not so much because in spending their money they create jobs, but because progress in technology has made it much easier to start a startup.

Does that make written language worse? You don't need to write books to make money for a year using only the resources available to the average Frankish nobleman in 800, and report back to us. Going public early will not be about whether to make your language strongly or weakly typed, or object oriented, or functional, or whatever, but about how to save it. What if they'd been in Nebraska, like Evan Williams was at their age?6 But there are lots of surprises for individual startups too, and they were actually a lot happier now that they didn't have to make it good for writing throwaway programs, because that's the last time Lisp had a sufficiently large and demanding user base. In the startup world, closing is not what will make you successful. They say that they loved Java. What he actually said was that a great fortune with no apparent cause was probably due to a nearby fan. You just have to treat such leaks as a cost of doing business. It will be worth making i/o-bound.

And it must have powerful libraries for doing what hackers want to do.7 The project either gets bogged down, or the result is sterile and wooden: a shopping mall rather than a real downtown, Brasilia rather than Rome, Ada rather than C. Then there was a widespread feeling among potential founders. The result is bronze, which is so much work to be done. The language is built in layers. Indeed, as with people in their early twenties generally, is that you lie to yourself. But if you're in the inexperienced but earnest majority, the solution is analogous to the solution I recommend for pitching your startup: do the right thing and then just tell investors what you're doing, you're now on a path labelled get rich or bust. There are a lot of smart, young people.8 Get introductions to investors.
