I remember seeing the press photos when this Jeep Avenger was announced last year, and thinking, “For a SUV, that's not bad‐looking. Still an SUV though.”
(No secret that I don't find the category appealing. And it still seems dishonest, both buyers and sellers to each other and to themselves, to knowingly buy and push this type of car when it's clear that, in the majority of cases, they're primarily used in regular urban environments for commutes and school runs, and quite unnecessary. No way that 53 % of Australia actually needs to go off‑road.)
But Alex's dad has been driving a few Jeep Grand Cherokees for the past decade‐plus, so I thought I'd check out this video in case there's anything noteworthy. And when the Avenger's size got brought up — 4 m long, 1.8 m wide, 1.5 m tall — it turns out it's actually:
The same width and length as a Peugeot e‑208, but just 10 cm taller. 65 kg heavier.
The same width and height as a Honda e, plus 20 cm in length and only 7 kg in weight.
Pretty much the same dimensions as BMW's old i3, plus 300 kg. (i3 was carbon fibre, after all.)
40 cm shorter in length than Mercedes' GLA. Width and height the same.
10 cm taller, same width, 30 cm shorter in length than the very‐pretty Volvo V40, and 100 kg heavier (not including petrol).
Same width, 20 cm taller, 20 cm shorter in length than Voshtah. 300 kg heavier, not including petrol.
The Avenger is actually deceptively compact compared to the impression it gives in photos!
(For reference: 8.9 cm in legroom is what differentiated regular and long‐wheelbase in Chris Bangle's 7 Series.)
Doesn't make being awarded 2023 Car of the Year not even a full month into said year logical. But I can see this selling very well.
Though as with so many EVs: we'll see if it even comes to Australia.

Jeep’s Electric Evolution: Navigating Towards a Revitalized Future
Tumblr media
Jeep finds itself at a crossroads, acknowledging past missteps and embracing a new strategy under the leadership of Antonio Filosa, its newly appointed global CEO.
Recognizing its underperformance relative to its potential, Jeep is embarking on a transformation journey, marked by a shift towards electric vehicles and a fresh approach to branding. Filosa revealed that the brand is veering away from the idea of Wagoneer as a sub-brand, a move that was met with criticism and confusion among consumers. Instead, all models, including Wagoneers and Grand Wagoneers, will now be consolidated under the Jeep umbrella — a decision aimed at streamlining the brand’s identity and clarifying its market positioning.
Central to Jeep’s revitalization plan are its forays into the electric vehicle market. The introduction of successful plug-in hybrids and the eagerly anticipated debut of the Jeep Avenger, a compact electric SUV, in Europe signify the brand’s commitment to sustainable mobility. In North America, the upcoming release of the Wagoneer S, a premium midsize electric SUV, and the potential addition of the electric off-road vehicle, the Recon, underscore Jeep’s push towards electrification.
Tumblr media
Filosa emphasized that the Wagoneer S and Recon models are nearing production readiness, boasting innovative design elements and cutting-edge performance features. Notably, the Wagoneer S, equipped with a dual-motor setup delivering 600 horsepower, is poised to be the fastest Jeep yet, rivaling the popular Tesla Model Y. Additionally, subtle yet significant changes, such as the transition from “Wagoneer” to “Jeep” badging, signify the brand’s unified approach moving forward.
Furthermore, Jeep aims to streamline its lineup and enhance consumer experience by simplifying configurations and offering electrified options across its range by 2025. Building on the success of its plug-in hybrids, including the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee PHEV, Jeep anticipates a significant market share increase, driven by projected sales growth and expanded offerings.
Looking ahead, Jeep envisions a diversified portfolio of SUVs catering to a broader range of segments, with plans to introduce new models and explore innovative technologies such as range-extenders. While specifics regarding potential range-extenders remain unconfirmed, Filosa’s track record of success and extensive experience within the automotive industry instill confidence in Jeep’s future direction.
In summary, Jeep’s strategic realignment under Filosa’s leadership signals a decisive shift towards electrification, streamlined branding, and product diversification — a promising trajectory aimed at reclaiming its position as a leader in the automotive landscape.

Video test – Jeep Avenger: what is Jeep's first electric SUV worth?
Integrated into the Stellantis group, Jeep is now also on the market for compact electric SUVs. Far from blending in with the crowd, the Avenger brings to the group an astonishing in-house adventurer spirit for a vehicle lacking integral motor skills. What does Maxime Fontanier think? Shorter but more power Distinguished last January by the coveted title of “Car of the Year” announced at the…
