Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
The fourth and final part of my guide to the G1 Climax! Cutting it a bit fine with less than 12 hours to go until the start of the G1, but going right up to the time limit seems in the spirit of the season somehow...
Before I go any further though, I have a correction to make. In my initial intro I said that the top scorer in each block would go through, but apparently it's the top two scorers going through this year! (Like they did in this year's BoSJ) Then there'll be quarter finals before the semis. I usually hate any kind of change because it's scary and weird, but I actually think this'll make things even more exciting! It means some more complicated maths, but it does open up the possibilities quite a bit!
And... that's it! That's every wrestler in the G1! Check out the other three parts if you haven't already. Thanks for reading and for all your lovely comments! It's been a blast to do this again, and has made me so happy to see people enjoying it and finding it useful. If you're new to NJPW and still have any questions, shoot me an ask and I'll do my best to answer! And feel free to let me know how you get on with the G1 if you do decide to watch! I always love talking wrestling!
Anyway, happy G1 everyone! May the best man (Toru Yano) win!
I can’t stop thinking about the end of that cage match.
Will sitting in the corner of the ring, beaten bloody and exhausted, with Akira held against his chest. All of Bullet Club stands in front of them, the rest of United Empire strewn around the outside of the ring, unable to get up to help their brothers. Will gently rolling Akira off of him and out of the ring to (relative) safety, before pulling himself up to his feet to face Bullet Club alone. Intense. Emotional. Beautiful. Cinema.
I...I think that was the best match I've ever seen? Is that bad? IDK? This is certainly my favourite 'Wargames match' ever. The purest example of a gang war in wresting and a beautiful send off for will. Everyone impressed, I think have about five new favourite wrestlers coming out of this. It was 64 minutes and I LOVED IT! (I should preface this by saying I am a massive Ospreay fan so that helps inform my opinion)
On the subject of the length, I have said before that I really do like long matches and It didn't necessarily feel too long. What I mean is that when watching it I was shouting stuff like "Oh gods please stop" and "Just end it" but that aided the drama andmade the match cooler.
I can't gush about the finish enough, Ospreay cradling Akira as he took him out of the way. Finlay offering Ospreay a free shot, surrounded by the War Dogs. Ospreay not being able to hit him. The War Dogs showing strength and dominance, eliminating everyone and then ending Ospreay.
There's more I can say but I'll wrap up. I LOVE technical wresting, this was the best match from this card for me. It's take a hell of a match to become my match of the year over this brutal war. The only hope I think is All In since I'll be in attendance.
Ospreay lead his men into war, they fought valiantly they just weren't as WAR READY as the War Dogs.
