Is this why you raise a daughter? Is this what you love and sacrifice for? What kind of times are these that such things can happen? Only this morning, she was carefree and happy and now...

The Free-Fall Warriors from the pages of Captain Britain No. 1, dated January 1985. Originally created by Steve Parkhouse and Dave Gibbons for Doctor Who Monthly in 1981, the script and inking here was again by Parkhouse but with pencils by Jerry Paris.

I acquired this copy of Jim Lehrer's satirical novel VIVA MAX from a bookstore in Dallas years ago because it had some old photos stuffed away in it. Turned out they were original photos taken during the filming of the 1969 film adaptation starring Peter Ustinov in San Antonio, Texas. Even further, the copy of the book had numerous autographs in it from director Jerry Paris, producer Mark Carliner and cast members Ustinov, Harry Morgan, Pamela Tiffin, Kenneth Mars, and Jack Wakefield. (Pictures and scans from personal collection)

Here. Have a Life Saver
HOWARD CUNNINGHAM Want to go home?
RICHIE In a minute, Dad.
HOWARD CUNNINGHAM Tough game.
RICHIE A free throw. I missed a lousy free throw.
HOWARD CUNNINGHAM Well... you make a great shot, and you're a hero, and you miss one, and you're just one of the many that tried.
RICHIE Well, Dad, that's not very comforting.
HOWARD CUNNINGHAM Look, Richard, even the best of them have bad games. You know, like Ralph Branca throwing up a home run ball to Bobby Thomson in the play-offs. And Mickey Owen missing the third strike and losing the World Series.
RICHIE Yeah, but, Dad, this game was important.
HOWARD CUNNINGHAM Oh. I tell you something, I think you're being a little too hard on yourself. You know, after all, you were a hero for a week. You had your moment, and that's more than most people.
RICHIE I guess I just...wanted it to go on.
HOWARD CUNNINGHAM I know.  Come on. Let’s go home. Here...have a Life Saver. It'll make you feel better.
