So Henry Cuellar has been indicted for bribery, foreign influence and corruption. Henry Cuellar, the Islamophobic, homophobic, anti-abortion, anti-immigrant, anti-gun control “Democrat” who often voted with Trump.
Hm.
That’s wild af.
Too bad there’s not someone who was more honest and trustworthy who the DNC and the DCCC could have backed and promoted back when Cuellar was running for office.
That’s really too bad, especially since the margin for the Senate and the House will probably be sO damn close in 2024. Too bad there wasn’t a pro-gun control, pro-immigration, pro-LGBTQ candidate that Democrats could have rallied behind. Instead of funding a conservative, anti-abortion Republican who just called himself a Democrat.
Because if there really was a pro-choice, pro-immigration, pro-gun control candidate who Democrats could have backed, then a lot of people would probably be saying “I FUCKING TOLD YOU SO” right about now. Yeah, I would probably be a little bit pressed. Angry even.
But what do I know, right? I mean, it probably doesn’t matter that AIPAC poured millions and millions against…
Know what, never mind. I guess we’re all good doe, because there wasn’t anyone else who could have taken that seat, the seat that was in a safe Democratic district.
Maybe Democrats will learn and support an actual progressive next time?
It’s all too bad.

It was just two years ago this month when Nancy Pelosi and like-minded conservative Democrats rallied around Cuellar to defeat his progressive primary challenger Jessica Cisneros. This despite the fact that Cuellar is vehemently anti-choice and votes with GOP. The likelihood that Pelosi and co. admit that they were wrong and have now made it even more difficult for Dems to retake the house in 2024 is nil.

Jamaal Bowman has been ousted. Democrats (including Hillary Clinton) chose AIPAC over a progressive Black Man who voted along party-lines over 90% of the time. All because he criticized Israel... they got rid of him.
The Democrats will purge their progressive flank.
The Democrats did this with Nina Turner.
The Democrats did this with Jessica Cisneros.
Now...
The Democrats did this with Jamaal Bowman.
Progressive People of Colour who are more than willing to work with Democrats, while challenging power (Israeli Lobby and Billionaires), are thrown to the wolves.
In favour of Neoliberal shills.
The current Democratic Candidate that is replacing Bowman... does not want to tax the rich (ie a policy proposal that Biden says he wants to implement). Democrats just allowed AIPAC and Hillary Clinton to give them another Joe Manchin.

the question is. will the democratic party learn from this and actually fund progressives and do things for their constituents instead of conservative counterparts (ex: jessica cisneros and henry cueller in texas) or counting on right-leaning candidates being so fucking unhinged in their racism, transphobia, and christian nationalism that the obvious choice HAS to be the one who ISN’T spouting conspiracy theories and bigotry? my money is on no but i’d love to be proven wrong.

Republicans can bring up George Soros all they want. However, the illegal favors to a sitting Supreme Court Justice are far more problematic ..."Together, Sinema and Manchin have caused significant headaches for Democrats over the last two years — first by opposing much of the "Build Back Better" social spending and climate bill and then by opposing Democrats' plans of weakening the Senate's 60-vote filibuster to pass voting rights legislation.
Crow has also made significant contributions to moderate-to-conservative House Democrats.
According to federal campaign finance data, the Texas billionaire has given $16,800 to Rep. Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey since 2018, contributing thousands as recently as October 2022.
Gottheimer, a member of the so-called "Unbreakable Nine" of moderate Democrats who insisted on de-linking Build Back Better from the infrastructure bill, has at times been a thorn in the side of his party as well.
And Crow has contributed $12,500 to Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas since 2006. Cuellar, a conservative opponent of abortion rights, faced a strong primary challenge from progressive activist Jessica Cisneros in 2022.
Crow's relationship and lavish vacations with Justice Thomas have raised significant ethics concerns — Thomas never disclosed the flights and yacht trips financed by the GOP megadonor, apparently violating a post-Watergate federal law that requires justices to report gifts.
It also raises questions over what influence, if any, Crow has been able to exert over Thomas's decisions as a Justice.
For his part, Crow told ProPublica in a statement that he and his wife "have never sought to influence Justice Thomas on any legal or political issue."

HOT TAKE: Conservative Democrats in red states aren’t conservative because “that’s the only way to win in middle America and the South” — they are often conservative because they are well PAID to be conservative

My guess on why AOC, Ilhan Omar, and Bernie Sanders still support Biden (while a lot of moderate Dems are jumping ship) is because they are under the mistaken belief that they have carved out a place for themselves in the Biden Administration.
They are looking at the investments in Green Energy, the protection of Federal Land from drilling, the union picket line event, and the student loan forgiveness program (that is dying in the courts). They see all of that. And think they will be irrelevant if a Newsom or a Harris becomes president.
This is very funny considering.... Student Loan Forgiveness Plan was less than a half-measure of Warren's plan (which was a half-measure of Sanders' plan). And currently... Bernie Sanders is doing a podcast and opining about a 36 hour work week. AKA He was benched HARD. Especially after the change of the Chief of Staff.
AOC will most likely pivot to a Pelosi type figure in the coming years. Pelosi was progress (she believed in Medicare for All). The years took her goals, her policies, her morals, and her convictions away. Replaced with the stench of the DNC establishment.
Personally, I'm still hoping on Option 2. AOC becomes really, strangely invested in UFOs. And becomes mostly a joke to all sides of the political spectrum (aside from the loonies, like me).
Ilhan Omar is interesting. She's one of the most progressive women in Congress. But she's not really in the safest district. She is analogous to Lauren Boebert. While Rashida Tlaib is a Marjorie Taylor Greene. Ilhan Omar and Lauren Boebert both are "fringe" members of their party and could realistically be bumped off. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Rashida Tlaib are entrenched.
Ilhan Omar is probably also looking at the ousting of Jamaal Bowman and presumably Cori Bush. And realizing that she needs to attach herself to someone to stay alive.
I think we will eventually see a purging of the party. Jamaal Bowman's being ousted is a solid example. The denial of Nina Turner and Jessica Cisneros is another lesser example. Summer Lee was able to hold on. Will Cori Bush? Maybe.
2016 and 2020 had a Bernie Sanders' campaign. Both times, this allowed politicians to join a grouping that was overtly progressive and democratically socialist. You don't have that in 2024. You won't have another Bernie Sanders campaign in 2028.
You may have a Whitmer. You may have a Harris. You may have a Newsom. And when we get to that. Maybe we're a stone's toss from it. You didn't have a movement that consolidated both a congressional grouping and a unique constituency that needed some level of appeasement.
Basically the Sanders Movement has long since fractured. And you see this even within media personalities. Leftwing Folks who got "enlightened" by the Sanders' campaign are now in disparate, separate fiefdoms.
You'll get hold-out, enclaves of former Sanders Politicians. A hollow shell of a coalition that once was and once could have been.
