Vehicle with FPS Turret Setup

If you want to have a car with a turret on top, here’s the setup in the Hierarchy.

This version has the player inside the car driving with mouse aim like a FPS, and the turret can aim in any direction while you drive.

You’ll need to import the custom Jet with Gun package, and the Character Package to get the FPS Controller - FirstPersonCharacter camera.

To get it to fire, I also had to open the FireGun script (attached to the GunBarrel object) and change line 20 jetType to go one level higher in the hierarchy to find the Player object (the car).

Also I changed the fire button from “Jump” (spacebar) to Fire1 (mouse left click).

Alternatively you could just delete line 20 and delete the part in line 30 if (jetType.tag == “Player” && That way the script doesn’t check the player object before firing.

Also turn off the Character Controller component in the FPSController or the car will flip out when you hit play.

To shoot at enemies and have them blow up, import Particle Systems package. Select your enemy object, I’m using the AircraftPropellerAI on a circuit.

Go to the Colliders, and edit one of the colliders to make it as big as the whole enemy. Call it DestructionSensor.

Next check the Box Collider component and check “Is Trigger”.

Add the DestroyAircraft script as a component of the collider.

Lastly, drag the Explosion Prefab from the ParticleSystems/Prefabs folder.

To add a crosshair, create a Canvas and make it a sub object of the GunBarrel, change the Canvas Render Mode from Screen Space to World Space. 

Make a UI/Image object under the canvas, create a crosshair in Photoshop, save the PNG in your Assets folder.

Click on the crosshair PNG image, change the Texture Type to UI/Sprite, drag that into the slot on the Canvas/Image object. 

Position the Canvas object in-front of the plane (it will start out huge, scale it down and move it into place), hit Play and test it so you can line it up with the stream of bullets.

Here’s the hierarchy if you’re using the Jet or prop plane.
