I wrote this a few years ago after hearing again how he made @kermitthefrog . It's called Just A Coat.

I’m super excited for the upcoming Netflix prequel series, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance on August 30th. Last year I was involved in Archaia’s Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal Artist’s Tribute. More #B2Wreviews ... Now I LOVED #TheDarkCrystal as a child & have probably watched it 100s of times. So it's no exaggeration I reallyreallyreally wanted #TheDarkCrystalAgeofResistance on #Netflix to be good. But was it? 📺 . . HELL YES. As we expect, the characterisation is nuanced and layered, whilst still incorporating those broad strokes we associate with fantasy as of this type - there's no good w/o evil; no light w/o darkness, etc. I love that gelling society is a matriarchy; this feels really fresh. Deet is a beautiful character; she is naive, but still wise, a fantastic contrast. Brea's intellectual and a little haughty with it; her realisation that Vapra might not be the 'highest' clan after all is brilliantly done & not preachy. They have also incorporated the witty moments as well as introduced a sense of dry humour (from the male characters especially, particularly Rian and Gurjin, or The Heretic and his mystic) that works brilliantly 🍿 . . Plot-wise, it's tight AF and actually frigging terrifying. I assumed the fear I'd felt as a child would not be present for the series ... How wrong I was! The torture of Gelfling is genuinely frightening, as are the multiple POV moments as Skeksis crowd round jeering & cackling. The Skeksis are scary as ever and the new addition of female ones brings the story bang up to date in 2019 (presumably they have female mystics, will be interesting to see for S2) 🎬 . . Summing up, I haven't seen many reboots or adaptations that have built on its source so effectively (I think the only one that comes close is #TheHandmaidsTale, which had a LOT more 'openness' in terms of world building to play with ... In contrast, there are lots more story world rules #darkcrystal *has* to include from the movie). I also strongly recommend the 'Making of' documentary that is on Netflix too - it illuminates their process SO well. This is how it's done ... Another #biutyful project to be proud of. New music video by @coldplay directed by @mat_whitecross and starring #theweirdos puppets by the @jimhensonscreatureshop performed by the awesome puppeteers that I get the privilege of calling coworkers from time to time. I play The Wizard’s hands along side @artie_esposito_art who does the head. We were live on stage in an incredible night. I also played the caveman bartender and the bear in the video.
