“After two years as a refugee, my former student M. has received his U.S. resettlement paperwork and is ready to start his new life in America!
I taught M. when I worked at the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) in Kabul. The eldest son of a large, loving, but poor family, he spent his earliest years in a refugee camp in Pakistan. Like many Afghan boys, he grew up working to help support his family. But thanks to his obvious intelligence and his family's commitment to education, he was able to attend school and pursue his bachelor's degree.
When Afghanistan fell to the Taliban in August 2021, M.'s family faced danger and persecution as a result of his father's work with the American military. They were eligible for U.S. Special Immigrant Visas, but the process was slow and almost nonfunctional. AUAF was able to evacuate M. to a third country where he could continue his education and wait for his refugee resettlement to the USA to be processed. While finishing his BA as a refugee, he was also supporting his family in Kabul and searching for ways to help them: pursuing their SIV application through the vast maze of American bureaucracy and working with my sister Heather, who filed to sponsor them for Humanitarian Parole.
Over the past two years, M. has become like a member of my family. He's helped my nephew with a school presentation; my niece baked him a cake to celebrate his university graduation. I've talked to his baby niece on the phone. He's helped me learn to read and write Dari Persian, putting up with my endless mistakes and questions. We text each other animal pictures and political frustrations.
Though M.'s family have now received their Humanitarian Parole and SIV petition approvals, they are still waiting for State Department evacuation from Kabul for their visa interview. But for M., good news has finally come: he has received his resettlement paperwork and is arriving in America the day before Thanksgiving!
He could use some help: when he was evacuated from Afghanistan, he was only allowed to take one bag of stuff with him. In America, he'll need more: weather-appropriate clothes, a phone, bus fare, and enough money to continue supporting his family in Kabul while he looks for a job.
This is an opportunity to help give a solid start to a gifted young man who has overcome incredible odds to make it this far— and to help repay an Afghan family who risked it all for America and American values.
Whatever you can give will help M. get started on his American journey!”

A brief account of what went down
Hey so, those who have stuck around after all these years, I thank you sincerely. Let me give a bit of retrospect as to what went down which made me drift away from tumblr. It is going to be a bit lengthy despite the title, so sorry :)
I joined tumblr in 2017, after a formerly close friend told me about it. I followed her footsteps and stayed on tumblr for a good two or three years, amassing connections with people from many fandoms whilst trying out new stuff.
We had a falling out, a nasty. That planted the seeds for my eventual backing away.
Then, my second best friend passed away in 2021,
Followed by my mother's death in 2022.
That toll was the heaviest. I immediately lost interest in everything.
So, fast forward, I was unfortunately curious about what my first best friend is up to. To my surprise, she's still writing on ao3.
And...that hit me.
Here I am, once a passionate writer, lover of my first and only canon KaiHil, and now that is gone, for what? Stuck in a (apparent) deadend job writing resumes, while she's writing. That spurred something in me.
So.... I'm slowly, making a comeback. It may not be immediate, but it is for certain. I am going to start writing again. And for now, it will be KaiHil. One Shots
I plan on continuing on a project I embarked on years ago, and I want to finish another couple of pending fanfics.
I wanna write so I can feel myself again.
Thanks for sticking so far :) if you're new here, a passer by, or someone who I know, thank you :)
PS since tumblr is fucking up here in pakistan, reach out to me on discord: maskaihilfantic
Or drop me a dm here, i will be checking this site every 2-3 days.
See you soon
~Machu

The world became a deadlier place for journalists in 2022, with 67 individuals killed while carrying out their work. That is up from 47 in 2021, according to a report published by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) on Friday.
Ukraine became the most dangerous country thanks to the Russian invasion, accounting for 12 of the total number of killed journalists and media staff.
The report also highlighted violence in Haiti and organized crime in Mexico, accounting for 6 and 11 deaths respectively.
"The surge in the killings of journalists and other media workers is a grave cause of concern and yet another wake-up call for governments across the globe to take action in the defense of journalism, one of the key pillars of democracy," IFJ General Secretary Anthony Bellanger said.
Killings threaten press freedom
The IFJ released its report ahead of International Human Rights Day and renewed its calls for a "Convention on the Safety and Independence of Journalists" to be voted on by the UN General Assembly.
It said the 2022 figures mark a shift in the recent decline in the number of journalists being killed while on the job.
The report also named Mexico, the Philippines and Pakistan as hotspots where the killing of journalists has threatened media freedom.
The report also highlighted the killing of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh by Israeli forces in broad daylight, highlighting that the number of journalists killed across the Middle East increased from 3 to 5 this year.
Hundreds of journalists in jail
The IFJ also reported on the number of journalists behind bars, which increased by 10 in 2022, reaching 375.
According to the NGO, China topped this list with 84 imprisoned journalists, followed by Myanmar (64), Turkey (51), Iran (34), Belarus (33), Egypt (23), Russia and occupied Crimea (29), Saudi Arabia (11), Yemen (10), Syria (9) and India (7).
"These figures make for grim reading and cast serious doubts on the political will on the part of governments to address such grave threats to media freedom," the report quoted Bellanger as saying.
"The number of journalists being held for simply doing their job makes a mockery of the lofty declarations on human rights and media freedom made by too many governments and trumpeted at international conferences."

2022 - Afghanistan ... while the world looks away.
youtube
The Taliban in Afghanistan has further clamped down on human rights in the country. In the latest blow, the Taliban's supreme leader has ordered judges to fully enforce Sharia or Islamic Law. It is an edict that could see the return of public floggings, executions and stonings for certain crimes. Women especially could be at the receiving end of many of these punishments. During their previous rule in the mid-nineties, the Taliban routinely stoned women for the crime of adultery. Last week, the group banned women from entering parks, gyms and public baths. The ban adds to a slew of curtailments to freedom Afghan women already face, as the Taliban ratchets up restrictions on public life after its return to power in August 2021. Since the chaotic withdrawal of NATO forces paved the way for the Taliban's comeback last year, Afghanistan's new hardline rulers have deprived girls of getting a secondary education. The group made its U-turn on indications it would open all girls' high schools in March. Taliban authorities have also suppressed activists who have protested for women's rights to education, work and freedom, and there has been an increase in murders of women that go unpunished. The group has also told women they should not leave the home without a male relative and must cover their faces.
youtube
Ever since the Taliban came to power, the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan have continuously shrinked. The chance that most teenage girls will be able to return to school is dwindling by the day. Under increasing economic pressure, some parents have had to marry off their daughters - often to men much older than their age.
youtube
At the onset of the second winter under Taliban rule, Afghan families face a grim choice between warming their homes or eating. But many can't afford either, as an increase in malnutrition and pneumonia cases among children indicates.
youtube
Afghanistan's Taliban rulers won't allow women to join their cabinet, but they have no qualms meeting a woman cabinet minister from another Islamic country. Pakistan's deputy foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar was in Kabul earlier in the week to meet her opposite number in the Taliban. The Taliban happy to greet her at the airport and then sit across the table from her. An Afghan woman doing the same would be unthinkable. Among other things, Taliban rule has seen most Afghan women prevented from going back to their jobs and girls prevented from returning to secondary school. Women human rights activists have been arrested and tortured. Parwana Nijrabi spent 24 days in jail after being arrested for participating in a women's rights protest in Kabul in mid-January this year. She's now in Germany as a refugee and spoke to DW News about her experience in prison.
youtube
Three major aid groups have suspended their operations in Afghanistan, saying they can't work without their female staff. This follows an order by the country's Taliban government telling all humanitarian organizations to stop employing women. The ban comes just days after the group barred women from attending universities.

39: Arooj Aftab // Vulture Prince
Tumblr media
Vulture Prince Arooj Aftab 2021, New Amsterdam (Bandcamp)
In 2021 Arooj Aftab’s third LP Vulture Prince unexpectedly blew up, at least in the way that sedate music for adults can be said to blow up—rapturous reviews, a quarter of a million listeners on Spotify, and a spot on Barack Obama’s annual focus-tested-to-hell year-end playlist. (Did you know he was listening to tUnE-yArDs when they finally compromised Osama Bin Laden to a permanent end?) An unusual outcome for a predominantly Urdu-language release with an average track length of 6:30, to be sure, but Vulture Prince was the right album at the right time.
youtube
Vulture Prince’s languid, melancholy, exquisitely arranged sound will be legible to a broad coalition of listeners, from fans of jazz, to post-rock, to New Age, to indie folk. Despite receiving a Grammy nod for Best New Artist, Aftab is a seasoned composer in her mid-30s, working here with sensitive musicians in various small combos (mostly harp, double bass, and violin, occasionally augmented by guitar, percussion, flugelhorn, and additional strings). She trusts the players to bring their own sensibilities to her songs, resulting in performances that are rich with subtle instrumental flourishes and embellishments.
This is neither precisely an ‘eastern’ nor ‘western’ album. Though Aftab’s voice evokes the passionate, melismatic runs of great ghazal singers like Abida Parveen or Nashenas, she sings these traditional poems with the intimate, smoky hush of a Leslie Feist or even a Norah Jones. Though her slow-developing melodies often have the flavour and cadence of Sufi music, she composes for western chamber instruments. This makes sense: Aftab grew up in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, but received her musical education in Boston and seasoning in New York’s jazz scene. This is precisely what makes Vulture Prince such a prime candidate for crossover success: its language and mood mark it as ostensibly ‘foreign,’ but not in such a way that it challenges western audiences’ notions of what is pleasant or beautiful.
Mounting that sort of challenge isn’t the ‘job’ of an artist—their job is to make something distinctive out of the materials experience has provided them. Vulture Prince is a beguiling product of Aftab’s diverse influences and marks the emergence of a songwriter of great promise. If it also serves as an enticement for listeners to stray further still from their cultural comfort zone, that’s a healthy bonus.

Pakistan’s Babar Azam in T20I
When Babar Azam takes the field on Friday, 14 April for the match against New Zealand, he will become the third Pakistan player to feature in 100 Men's T20Is
Shoaib Malik (123) and Mohammad Hafeez (119) are the two other Pakistan players to reach this milestone in men's T20Is.
The level-headed Pakistan captain is well known for his flamboyant batting style and along with Mohammad Rizwan forms an intimidating opening pair in T20Is.
As we celebrate his 100 T20Is, let's have a look at some of Babar's top innings in the format.
Tumblr media
122 off 59 v South Africa, Centurion, 2021 — Babar and Rizwan are a force to reckon with. While Rizwan plays the role of an aggressor more often, there have been times when Babar has blown away the opposition with his explosive shots. The third T20I against South Africa in 2021 was one such example.
Chasing a formidable 204, Babar took the lead almost right from the start. After taking a couple of overs to adjust, he started pummelling the bowlers all over the park. His 50 came in just 27 balls and he accelerated after that with aplomb. He ended up with 122 off just 59 deliveries but unfortunately was dismissed with Pakistan needing just 7 to win, nevertheless having brought his side to the brink of victory. Pakistan then chased the total with two overs to spare. It was also Babar's first century in the format.
Tumblr media
110* off 66 v England, Karachi, 2022 — Babar's second T20I century was no less impressive and this time it came at home. After losing the first T20I, Pakistan needed to hit back. England batted first and scored 199/5. Chasing another 200 score was not going to be easy but both Babar and Rizwan were in a different mood altogether. Babar, in particular, led the charge, smashing 110* off just 66 deliveries as Pakistan registered a 10-wicket victory over England. It was Babar who hit the winning runs, an inside-out four through covers celebrating a dominating win.
Tumblr media
97* off 58 v West Indies, Karachi, 2018 — Babar's first Karachi masterclass came in 2018, four years before his hundred; an almost century innings against West Indies at home. Batting first, Pakistan lost Fakhar Zaman early, who had opened the innings with Babar. The 24-year-old Babar Azam had only hit three fifty-plus scores in his career then and came close to scaling three figures when he took on the Windies bowling attack single-handedly. Pairing with Hussain Talat at No.3, Babar hit 13 fours and a six on his way to 97* off 58 deliveries. Pakistan put up a huge total of 205/3 and defended it easily with their strong bowling attack.
Tumblr media
79* off 53 v New Zealand, Christchurch, 2022 — Babar's 79* was not in an high-scoring encounter but a low-scoring chase against New Zealand's celebrated bowling attack in their own backyard. The Pakistan bowlers had done their job keeping the Black Caps down to 147/8 in their 20 overs. But the hosts were not going down without a fight. They removed Rizwan early and crippled Pakistan further with a second wicket, leaving them at 37/2 in the sixth over. But Babar kept going. He rebuilt the Pakistan innings, first patiently stabilizing them, then pouncing on the bad balls to put them away. He formed crucial partnerships with the middle order and though New Zealand got a couple of more wickets, they had no answer to Babar. The Pakistan captain remained not out as the visitors claimed a six-wicket victory in the 19th over.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
68* off 52 v India, Dubai, 2021 — The famous ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 match. While there were many heroes in the game, Babar's contribution to it cannot be forgotten. After India were restricted to 151/7, Pakistan went all out with the bat to bamboozle the Indian bowlers. Rizwan was sensational and Babar played the perfect fiddle for him. Both batters complemented each other and pummelled the Indian attack without any rest. Babar hit the winning runs helping Pakistan to their first victory over India in the history of the tournament.

Top-Notch Custom Software Development in New York: Tailored Solutions for Your Business Needs
Tumblr media
So, let’s take a closer look at what’s happening in the global software outsourcing market right now, what challenges are popping up, and all the cool opportunities it brings. Plus, we’ll talk a bit about Pakistan’s growing role in this field and how it’s making a mark on the world stage.
Understanding Software Outsourcing: What It Means
Tumblr media
Outsourcing can involve anything from coding and design to testing and maintenance. It’s a way for companies to get the job done faster, cheaper, and often with better quality, especially if they don’t have the specific skills or resources in-house.
“According to recent statistics, the global software outsourcing market size reached a staggering $92.5 billion in 2023, with projections indicating further growth at a CAGR of 5.8% from 2021 to 2028.”
Tumblr media
Understanding Software Outsourcing: Why It Matters
The global software outsourcing market has been growing a lot lately because businesses are finding it more complex to develop software on their own. They’re looking for help from outside experts who have the specialized skills needed for these projects. In 2023, the market hit a big number: $92.5 billion! This growth is expected to keep going at about 5.8% every year until 2028.
One big reason for this growth is that software projects nowadays are getting really complicated. They need fancy designs, smart algorithms, and they have to work well across different devices and systems. To handle all this, companies are hiring outsourcing partners who know how to deal with these challenges.
Global Software Outsourcing Market: Evolving Trends
Rise of Nearshore and Offshore Outsourcing
Businesses are increasingly leveraging nearshore and offshore outsourcing destinations for cost savings, tapping into a broader talent pool, and exploiting timezone advantages. Countries like Pakistan, India, China, Eastern Europe, and Latin America have emerged as prominent outsourcing hubs.
These destinations not only offer cost-effective outsourcing solutions but also provide access to a diverse talent pool with specialized skills. Moreover, the strategic advantage of time zone differences facilitates round-the-clock development cycles, optimizing productivity and minimizing project turnaround times.
Shift Towards Agile and DevOps Methodologies
Tumblr media
A notable trend in custom software development new york projects is the growing adoption of Agile and DevOps methodologies. These approaches prioritize collaboration, flexibility, and iterative development, enabling teams to respond promptly to changing requirements and deliver high-quality software efficiently.
Tumblr media
Diversification of Outsourcing Models
In today’s software outsourcing market, businesses are exploring a variety of outsourcing models to find the perfect fit for their specific needs. While traditional models like project-based partnerships and dedicated teams are still popular, newer approaches like managed services and Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) arrangements are gaining traction.
These models offer flexibility, scalability, and risk-sharing opportunities, allowing businesses to adapt their outsourcing strategies to changing project requirements and market conditions.
“Pakistan’s IT industry has experienced notable growth, with software exports surpassing the $2 billion mark in 2023.”
Tumblr media
Focus on Data Security and Compliance
Data security and compliance have become critical concerns in outsourcing arrangements due to increasing regulations and cybersecurity threats. Businesses are seeking outsourcing partners with robust security measures, stringent compliance frameworks, and proven records in safeguarding sensitive data.
Moreover, adopting secure development practices, encryption technologies, and conducting regular security audits have become standard practices to mitigate risks and ensure data integrity throughout the custom development solutions lifecycle.
Rise of Hybrid Work Models
The emergence of hybrid work models is reshaping how outsourcing projects are managed, with a mix of remote and onsite collaboration becoming the new normal. While remote work offers flexibility and cost savings, onsite presence facilitates real-time communication, team cohesion, and knowledge transfer.
Outsourcing partners are adapting to this trend by implementing collaborative tools, establishing virtual work environments, and fostering a culture of remote collaboration. Seamlessly integrating remote and onsite teams enables businesses to leverage the strengths of both approaches, driving productivity, innovation, and project success.
Global Software Outsourcing Market: Pakistan’s Role
Pakistan is increasingly becoming a sought-after choice for software outsourcing, thanks to several factors that are propelling its rise in the global market. The country’s IT industry has experienced notable growth, with software exports surpassing the $2 billion mark in 2023. Key factors contributing to Pakistan’s attractiveness as an outsourcing destination include:
Skilled IT Workforce
Pakistan prides itself on its abundant pool of skilled IT professionals, comprising software developers, engineers, and IT specialists proficient in a diverse array of technologies and programming languages.
The country’s education system places a strong emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, ensuring a steady supply of well-trained graduates equipped to meet the demands of the rapidly evolving tech landscape. This rich talent pool not only fuels innovation and creativity but also positions Pakistan as a competitive player in the global software outsourcing market.
Cost-Effectiveness
Tumblr media
One of Pakistan’s standout features as an outsourcing destination is its competitive labor costs, which offer significant savings for businesses compared to traditional outsourcing hubs like India and Eastern Europe.
This affordability factor makes Pakistan an attractive option for companies seeking to optimize their development budgets without compromising on quality. By leveraging Pakistan’s cost-effective resources, businesses can achieve their objectives more efficiently and allocate resources strategically, driving overall profitability and competitiveness.
“Here at Exper Labs, we’re more than just a software outsourcing option — we’re your dedicated partners in development.”
Tumblr media
Government Support and Infrastructure Development
Pakistan’s government has demonstrated a proactive commitment to promoting the IT industry through a range of supportive measures. This includes offering tax incentives, investing in critical infrastructure, and implementing initiatives to nurture entrepreneurship and innovation.
The establishment of dedicated IT parks and technology incubators further reinforces the ecosystem, providing a conducive environment for IT companies and startups to flourish. With strong government backing and robust infrastructure development, Pakistan is poised to sustain its growth trajectory and consolidate its position as a preferred outsourcing destination.
Here at Exper Labs, we’re more than just a software outsourcing option — we’re your dedicated partners in development. With our wealth of experience and expertise, we’re here to support your projects every step of the way. UK Grad Visa Scheme Isn't Troublesome, Finds Report Amid Immigration Concerns
Tumblr media
UK Grad Visa Scheme Isn't Troublesome, Finds Report Amid Immigration Concerns Following concerns about potential misuse for immigration purposes, a new report recommends maintaining the graduate visa route, highlighting its importance for British universities. The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) investigated the scheme after Home Secretary James Cleverly requested an expedited review in March. The committee examined if the visa was being exploited and if it primarily attracted students seeking immigration rather than education. A graduate visa allows international students to remain in the UK for up to three years after completing a university program. Dependents like partners and children can also apply. Last week, former immigration minister Robert Jenrick called for the graduate visa's abolition, arguing it facilitated "entry for individuals to work in the gig economy and for very low wages." Universities and industry leaders expressed anxieties that the 2021-introduced route might be scrapped or restricted based on a negative report. This fear, in turn, led to a significant decline in applications from international students. However, the committee, comprising five university professors and a Home Office representative, discovered "no widespread evidence of abuse" of the graduate visa program. "The limited conditions associated with the route lead to comparatively low abuse risks," the report stated. The review also revealed that the visa scheme is aiding universities in expanding course offerings while compensating for financial shortfalls from domestic students and research endeavors. Additionally, it "supports the government's international education strategy." The report indicated that in 2023, 114,000 graduate route visas were issued to applicants, with an additional 30,000 for dependents. It further noted that students from India, Nigeria, China, and Pakistan constituted 70% of all graduate visa holders, with India exceeding 40%. Professor Brian Bell, the MAC chair and a prominent labor economist leading economics at King's College London, commented, "Our review recommends maintaining the graduate route in its current form. It does not undermine the integrity and quality of the UK's higher education system." "The graduate route is a crucial aspect of our offer to international students considering studying in the UK," Professor Bell continued. "The fees they pay contribute to universities recouping losses incurred from teaching British students and conducting research. Without these students, many universities would be forced to shrink, leading to a decline in research output. This underscores the intricate relationship between immigration and higher education policies." The report discovered that a majority of graduate visa holders had completed postgraduate programs, with the most significant growth stemming from postgraduate courses offered by non-Russell Group universities, accounting for 66% of all graduate visas. Since 2021, the proportion of primary applicants exceeding 25 years old has grown by 15 percentage points, reaching 54% in 2023. The report also revealed that while graduate visa holders initially tend to occupy lower-paying positions, their job prospects and salaries improve over time. Notably, nearly half of the initial cohort transitioned to skilled worker visas, primarily securing skilled roles. Read the full article

Promoting Responsible Tourism in Pakistan’s North West
Tumblr media
Growing up, Muhammad Numan saw a cleaner, more natural environment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s tourist destinations. But as time passed and tourism surged, the local landscape he once knew began to change. The influx of tourists resulted in a growing pile of litter across the otherwise scenic sites in the north. The travel and tourism sector’s total contribution to Pakistan’s GDP was 5.9 percent in 2022 and 4.2 million jobs. This is sub-optimal considering the diverse tourist sites located across the country. Pakistan attracted ~US$ 16 billion in visitor spending in 2022 which is projected to touch ~US$ 30 billion in 2033. Pakistan experienced an unprecedented surge in domestic tourism immediately after the Covid induced travel restrictions were lifted: For instance, in 2021 and 2022, over 1.2 million domestic and international tourists visited the country’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province alone.

To manage this increasing all-season footfall of visitors while harnessing its understated economic potential, the local authorities, communities, and private sector require resources, equipment and training without losing focus on green and inclusive tourism. Determined to make a change, Numan, who now works as a manager at a local hotel in Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, sought ways to mitigate the negative impact of the tourism industry on the ecosystem. That is when he came across the “Travel Responsibly for Experiencing Eco-tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa” (TREK) initiative – a partnership between the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, World Bank (WB) and Nestlé Pakistan to promote and support responsible tourism initiatives. TREK complements the ongoing activities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Integrated Tourism Development Project (KITE) project for heritage preservation and tourism infrastructure development. Since 2020, it has completed awareness campaigns for tourists, and training of local communities and hospitality businesses on waste management. TREK has trained over 650 participants from more than 150 hotels and restaurants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s tourist areas. The beneficiaries also included local communities, local authorities and academia of Peshawar, Nathiagali, Abbottabad, Swat, Naran and Chitral districts. These trainings concentrated on solid waste minimization, segregation, management, and recycling techniques. Public service messages on responsible tourism were also launched through social media and radio campaigns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and cities of Islamabad and Lahore. Most country’s domestic tourists are concentrated in these geographies and were thus able to receive communication on tourist helplines on the importance of keeping the sites litter-free. 10,000 reusable bags were distributed to tourists and the hotel association in tourist hotspots aiming to encourage their use and minimize littering. In parallel, the IDA-financed KITE project provided waste bins, garbage collection and compacting machinery to the local authorities in Nathiagali, Naran, Chitral and Kumrat districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and a few locations in Punjab province, and installed 50 tourist information signboards to complement the awareness campaigns. TREK-November-2023-3.jpg Tourist information sign boards in Galiyat, Pakistan TREK-November-2023-2-Training-in-Abbottabad.jpg TREK Awareness Workshop for Community and Local Government Participants Incorporating the knowledge from these sessions, like several other participants, Numan introduced eco-friendly practices at his hotel. He also spearheads a community-funded clean-up initiative in his hometown of Mardan district. This initiative has transformed into a community-driven effort, with residents actively participating in regular clean-up drives. Such sustainable transformations encapsulate the very essence of what TREK envisions for communities throughout the province and beyond. TREK has propelled its partners towards impactful activities by encouraging collaboration with the private sector. Its partner in the initiative, Nestlé Pakistan, is taking concrete actions to create circular systems that make it easier to collect, recycle and reuse products that use plastic. It is committed to designing 100 percent of its plastic packaging for recycling and expects to achieve a 95 percent target by 2025. The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has allocated resources and supports its teams to ensure green and inclusive destination management in partnership with the private sector. The project has also provided machinery for snow removal and solid waste management to local authorities to improve accessibility, traffic flow and promote sustainable tourism in the province. TREK's inclusivity stands out, inviting participants from diverse backgrounds, including women, youth, and the transgender community. Zareen Akhtar, a social worker, and human rights activist who underwent TREK training, testified to the program's transformative impact. She acknowledged the newfound knowledge she gained, eager to share it with others. She emphasized that she’s one of the many women in this region who have had the opportunity to attend these trainings. “Inclusion of women not only has a wider social impact but also a major mindset shift in the region, allowing for a cohesive awareness within the social fabric of the community.” Initiatives like TREK have the power to transform the tourism landscape in some of Pakistan's most pristine destinations and ensure that future generations continue to enjoy these in years to come. In its next phase, TREK will integrate additional players from the private and financial sectors of the country to launch activities that support community empowerment and investment mobilization for job creation.
