Here’s how self-scoring will look for submissions: 

I have four lines of self-scoring, and because there is no background, I have specified “no background”! Because I had two characters drawn to the same level of completion, I added a 50 point bonus for Joe Hills. If I had only drawn a sketch of him, there would be no point bonus. Additional characters must be drawn to the same level of completion in order to count for the bonus!

There’s only two lines of self-scoring, one for word count and the second for character bonus. As I only had two characters in this work, I only get one character bonus for including Ebony. AO3 linker will show up to provide additional detail! 

For the summary requirement, my summary did not include my given prompt (“forgiveness”) because it is under 1.5k. If my fic was longer than that, then my summary would have to convey that prompt. For example, here’s how my summary might look if my fic went over 1.5k:

EBONY offers an apology for what she must do. IVORY cannot accept. 

This summary does not have to be long! In two sentences, I can convey that my prompt is “forgiveness”. If my soulmate is looking for someone who shares that prompt, they can easily single out my fic based on this summary, even though I didn’t use the word “forgiveness” within it.

..."In June, the rightwing academic Kevin Slack published a book-length polemic claiming that ideas that had emerged from what he called the radical left were now so dominant that the US republic its founders envisioned was effectively at an end.

Slack, a politics professor at the conservative Hillsdale College in Michigan, made conspiratorial and extreme arguments now common on the antidemocratic right, that “transgenderism, anti-white racism, censorship, cronyism … are now the policies of an entire cosmopolitan class that includes much of the entrenched bureaucracy, the military, the media, and government-sponsored corporations”.

In a discussion of possible responses to this conspiracy theory, he wrote that the “New Right now often discusses a Red Caesar, by which it means a leader whose post-Constitutional rule will restore the strength of his people”.

For the last three years, parts of the American right have advocated a theory called Caesarism as an authoritarian solution to the claimed collapse of the US republic in conference rooms, podcasts and the house organs of the extreme right, especially those associated with the Claremont Institute thinktank.

Though on the surface this discussion might seem esoteric, experts who track extremism in the US say that due to their influence on the Republican party, the rightwing intellectuals who espouse these ideas about the attractions of autocracy present a profound threat to American democracy.

Their calls for a “red Caesar” are now only growing louder as Donald Trump, whose supporters attempted to violently halt the election of Joe Biden in 2020, has assumed dominant frontrunner status in the 2024 Republican nomination race. Trump, who also faces multiple criminal indictments, has spoken openly of attacking the free press in the US and having little regard for American constitutional norms should he win the White House again.

The idea that the US might be redeemed by a Caesar – an authoritarian, rightwing leader – was first broached explicitly by Michael Anton, a Claremont senior fellow and Trump presidential adviser.

Anton has been an influential rightwing intellectual since in 2016 penning The Flight 93 Election, a rightwing essay in which he told conservatives who were squeamish about Trump “charge the cockpit or you die”, referencing one of the hijacked flights of 9/11.

He gave Caesarism a passing mention in that essay, but developed it further in his 2020 book, The Stakes, defining it as a “form of one-man rule: halfway … between monarchy and tyranny”.

The Guardian contacted Anton at his Claremont Institute email address, but received no response.

Anton and others in the Claremont milieu are not simply hypothesizing about the future: their dreams of Caesar arise from their dark view of the US.

Anton wrote the scene-setting essay in Up From Conservatism, an anthology of essays published this year and edited by the executive director of Claremont’s Center for the American Way of Life, Arthur Milikh.

In that essay Anton writes baldly that “the United States peaked around 1965”, and that Americans are ruled by “a network of unelected bureaucrats … corporate-tech-finance senior management, ‘experts’ who set the boundaries of acceptable opinion, and media figures who police those boundaries”.

His diagnosis of US social and cultural life unfolds under a series of subheadings that are almost comical in their disillusionment: “The universities have become evil”, “Our economy is fake”, “The people are corrupt”, “Our civilization has lost the will to live”.

Damon Linker, a senior lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania and an author of several books on the American right, was early in noticing the extreme right’s drift towards Caesarism.

Linker told the Guardian that Anton and others in the Claremont milieu “have convinced themselves thoroughly that the current order is decadent, corrupt and far removed from the proper, admirable origins of American government”.

One day I remember walking down to Seaton’s, the corner drugstore, to pay the utility bills, slow summer day, rather long letter to post, the air out salubrious somehow I can’t now seem to explain, yet a lugubrious senescence settles over me as on my walk I feel myself aging.

I waited at Seaton’s small post office window for the clerk Amelia to weigh and post my letter, and I also purchase a half page of stamps. “Drugstore Cowboy commemorative page,” Amelia smiles.

I then browsed the aisles for knickknack knockoffs, picked up a last-second gift card, and waited to watch a strawberry malt whipped up for a little girl, the pink stuff spilled from hand held lade ladles handled delicately – Amelia’s vessels of oak and wool woven sails as she spun the concoction. Here again I feel a portage of age from one bondage portal to my next epochal position.

In other words, I felt upside down, the company store closed, and caught up in Gas, Oil, Electric, Water, and Phone Bills, living in an age of fossil-fuel habits, in a diseased society. Ridden in and on, no cure here, piece of the old neighborhood, now dead letter drugstore while drone dreary mosquitoes fill the air with gewgaw.

Rumors about bigger artists … joining the exodus have been swirling for days, so far with no confirmations. What’s strange about this effort to deplatform Rogan is that his popularity preceded, and made possible, his deal with Spotify. If the protest succeeds in getting him booted, he can simply go back to making his podcast available on other platforms or launch his own. A “win” would merely allow certain politically progressive artists to end their tacit association with a personality whose brand is the puncturing of liberal pieties.

Trina Marino (Melone)

Trina is incredible with kids, and will often babysit for at least 5 dollars per hour. She also is a clean freak for some apparent reason- hence the maid attire.

She hails from probably Rome, and she is secretly a tech savvy genius- much like her partner!

Whenever it comes to anything fashionable, she will head straight for it. She has somewhat expensive taste, though.

Min Kangjeon (Ghiaccio)

Min is a Korean teenage ice skater who comes from Incheon and is the son of 2 very successful figure skaters.

His favorite hobby is to go ice skating, especially when it’s outdoors in the winter on a chilly skating rink.

He is one of a good chunk of linkers to keep their glasses on even after their transformation- his just change their color from black to red.

As the taller of the Don brothers, John is cunning and will do anything to taste victory. He is more of the diet type of person.

Despite the fact that he will often eat bacon, he only does so when it comes to setting bets. If he wins a bet, he lets the loser finish the entire plate. If he loses a bet, he finishes the plate himself.

He Surprisingly cares very much about the others. He even helps his brother Joe with his exercise plans. Both even have Brooklyn accents for some apparent reason… maybe it’s because they hail from uptown Brooklyn.

Unlike his brother John, Joe is the more overweight of the Don brothers, with all of his weight coming from stress eating in the past.

He is more leaning towards seafood, especially tuna salad. He will make an entire tuna salad sandwich and probably offer it to you no matter what.

Although he may not be as risky as his brother, he still tries his best to follow through with his exercise plans.

Ozzie Staley (Risotto Nero)

Ozzie is a young adult music fan hailing from Memphis, Tennessee- and he loves rock music. He does enjoy playing his acoustic guitar in his spare time.

He knows that his uncle has won a lot of music awards, but feels as if he’ll never live up to his legacy.

For some reason, he looks like Keanu Reeves (I dunno why, but that was on my part); and heck- even Risotto mistook him for Keanu’s lookalike when they first met!

Larique Emerald (Illuso)

Larique is a young girl who comes from a wealthy family who has made their business in the French city of Chamonix.

As much as she loves looking in her reflection, she can’t help but feel insecure about herself. She wonders if being perfect is really all worth the risk.

As a matter of fact, she does her own makeup tutorials; yet still doesn’t know that they bring it who she really is inside.

Javion Rossi (Formaggio)

Javion is probably from Austin, Texas- and he is a huge sucker for model sets. He is also a big collector and will do anything to get his hands on the latest miniature item.

As much as he wants to enjoy cheese, he’s somewhat lactose intolerant; so he has decided to go with almond milk for the time being.

But then again, he feels like that his collection of miniature items won’t get him anywhere.

Carter and Harper Sorenson (Sorbet and Gelato)

Carter and Harper are twins who live in Myrtle Beach, and of course- they do finish their sentences and speak at the same time.

As much as they love each other; both girls dream of being recognized for who they are by everyone- especially their parents.

There’s a good way to tell apart the sisters- Carter has blonde hair and blue glasses; while Harper has dark hair and red glasses.
