Hi, I finally got around to look up the sources and copy them that were the direct inspiration for the fic.

First of all some general background on the meeting of Karl and Ulrika in Vadstena from Ragnhild Hatton: Charles XII, p. 442f:

A meeting with Ulrika Eleonora had been much discussed during the summer, and Vadstena - one of the palaces of the late Queen-Grandmother - was picked on as not being too distant for Ulrika and more or less en route for the King's own move south for the time when he thought invasion possible. The meeting with his 'dear sister', Charles wrote to Frederick, might have to be shorter than he would wish - perhaps the military situation would permit only a single day - but he was not prepared to sacrifice this opportunity to see and speak to Ulrika unless Frederick summoned him urgently to Scania. If this should happen, he implored Ulrika to remain at Vadstena that he might take the next opportunity of a visit - Stockholm was too distant.

Neither Frederick, nor the war, put obstacles in the way and brother and sister spent the Thursday and Friday of 30-31 August together. Charles did not bring adjutants with him and we have little factual information of his stay at Vadstena except from Ulrika's letters to her husband and a reference to the emotional impact of the meeting which she penned in her 1740 comments for Nordberg's history of Charles XII. We know that the King left Major-General de la Gardie in command of the border troops on 26 August and rode over Strömstad, Uddevalla and Vanersborg to Hjo on lake Vättern. He was rowed across the lake in heavy rain, rode the last few miles completely alone and was able to take Ulrika 'by surprise' as he had wanted to do since December 1715. His cape was dripping wet, we hear from one of Ulrika's ladies-in-waiting, and the little court was thrown into a joyful confusion at his unannounced arrival.

There may have been a childish element in Charles's wish to take 'by surprise', but privacy was probably the dominating motive. Charles knew that the reunion with his only remaining sister would affect him deeply. Ulrika noted that they both cried and that Charles found it hard to control his emotion when they talked of their parents, of Hedvig Sophia and of the family life they had once shared: his voice thickened and the tears were never far away when the mother's name was mentioned. They got on surprisingly well together considering the readjustments, partially achieved by correspondence, necessary after an interval of sixteen years in which the 'baby' sister had become a mature woman.Charles won Ulrika's heart during their long talk alone on Thursday evening by praising her husband and his brave services to Sweden. The next day had to be a more public one. They listened to the Friday sermon preached by one of the court chaplains, and Charles must have seen something of Ulrika's ladies-in-waiting (all old acquaintances) since he sent greetings to them by name in his first letter from Lund. At 10 o'clock in the evening of 31 August, after supper, the King took his leave and over Jonkoping reached a main road to Scania.

Now about the thing that Karl didn't want Ulrika to call him 'Your Majesty' from his letter to her from 17th/27th January 1711, English translation by me based on the German translation by F. Mewius, post with the whole letter:

In confidence I have to ask my dear sister for something, which has always been bothersome to me. I just didn’t know how to come forward with this; because I have to complain about Mon Coeur, who doesn’t call me brother, but always makes other compliments to him, who is nothing else but my dearest sister’s only brother and humblest servant.

And finally how he saw (or hoped to see) Ulrika in relation to himself, from his letter from 2nd/13th September 1714, English translation by me based on the German translation by F. Mewius, post with the whole letter:

I’ve been very joyed by Liven’s arrival; since I not only received Mon Coeur’s most dearest letter through him, but also was verbally informed of Mon Coeur’s preferable wellbeing, although at the same time I grudgingly also heard of the woes, which Mon Coeur was feeling over the demand that the Council made and that Her Majesty the Queen has agreed to, that Mon Coeur was supposed to attend the meetings of the Council.# Mon Coeur can surely imagine, that I can’t find that, what’s regarding MonCoeur, anything but good, and that I gladly saw that Mon Coeur gave her agreement and wants to take on these efforts. I am sure it will be useful for the accomplishments of many things, especially if the Council is through this encouraged to to work more cautiously than it has happened for a few years now.

With this opportunity several different letters are going to the Council and answers to its letters. I have tried to indicate to Mon Coeur in this letter of mine what the letters that are leaving from are containing. Since I’ve difficulties with writing and Mon Coeur will see everything in the Council, I ask Mon Coeur don’t blame me that I don’t write about everything. I hope, Mon Coeur will find it good, what I wrote to the Senate on the matter of Mon Coeur’s presence in the senate, as well that I didn’t write to Mon Coeur in the same letter as the senate. Because Mon Coeur and the senate can’t be understood as something belonging together, as well as Mon Coeur can’t be seen as a member of the Senate, but as one who in the same way as me is above the Council and supervises the businesses and ventures which have been entrusted to the Council, so that Mon Coeur supervises at home over that which is supposed to be carried out in the same way I announce it to them during my absence in my letters from here. Concluding from that, regarding the exchange of letters between me and the Council, Mon Coeur and me can’t be seen as something else but a single person who is in two places at once, and equally the Senate forms a particular person or a College. My letters to the Council can therefore not be addressed to my sister at the same time; because that would be the same as if I were writing to the Council and myself at the same time. Furthermore I’m often of a completely different opinion than the Senate and can therefore all the less write in the same letter to Mon Coeur, as both, who are one, can only have one will too; but the matter with the Senate is a complete different one

Oppenau - Feldberg - Lindau

Maandag 5 augustus

Na wederom een prima nacht ga ik vandaag weer wat meer kilometers maken 😊. Dit keer richting de Feldberg. Hier ben ik in 2021 ook al geweest en het was toen een leuke wandeling. Nu heb ik een andere route gezien dus ik ben benieuwd.

Onderweg er naartoe is het wederom erg druk op de weg, maar dat mag de pret niet drukken, want de zon schijnt vandaag volop en ik heb er zin in!

Het is even zoeken naar een parkeerplaats want het hele dorpje ligt op de schop, maar ik vind een plek en maak mij klaar voor vertrek. 

Het eerste gedeelte loopt ik deels door het bos en ik kom helemaal niemand tegen.

Dit veranderd zodra ik het bos uit kom en meer op het gebaande pad terecht wandel.

Toch geniet ik wederom, nu vandaag de zon lekker schijnt kleurt alles toch net iets mooier!

Onderweg stop ik nog om een boterham te nuttigen en spontaan komt er een prachtige vlinder op mijn broek zitten. Hij blijft geduldig zitten ook al maak ik even en foto.

Ik loop een iets andere route als de vorige keer maar wordt toch ook over een paar bekende wandelpaden gestuurd. Ook hier is het best druk, maar ja het is ook een leuke route voor het hele gezin...🙃

Onderweg nog een mooi uitzicht op de Feldsee.

Na 2,5 uur aan de wandel ben ik weer terug bij mijn campertje. Het is bloedheet inmiddels 🥵 dus even bijtanken met veel water.

Ik rij weer naar beneden richting het dal en stop nog even in het plaatsje Neustadt am Titisee. Erg druk hier, maar het meer ziet er heerlijk uit om in te zwemmen. Helaas net mijn bikini nog in mijn campertje laten liggen 🙈.

Ik rij verder richting Oostenrijk. Bij het plaatsje Lindau net voor de grens met Oostenrijk weet ik mij nog een camperplaats te herinneren waar ik in 2022 ook heb gestaan. Dat was toen prima, vlakbij het bos een grote parkeerplaats, maar waar vaak wel 15 tot 20 campers in alle maten en soorten staan.

Na een pitstop onderweg waar ik een prachtig uitzicht heb op de bodensee en een stop bij de supermarkt rij ik naar deze parkeerplaats.

Het is inmiddels rond 18.00uur wanneer ik daar arriveer. Er staat een camper van een Zweedse vrouw en nog een Caddy van een Pool. Ik raak al vrij snel aan de praat met de vrouw uit Zweden, Ingela, genaamd. Ook zij is alleen op reis, en mag nog lekker wegblijven tot eind oktober. Heerlijk! We wisselen allerlei leuke reistips uit en uiteindelijk zitten we de rest van de avond buiten in onze stoelen uitgebreid te kletsen over wat we allebei zoal doen in het dagelijks leven. Zij werkt onderweg en woont sinds een tijdje in haar camper omdat ze wist dat ze op reis ging en de huur van haar appartement alvast had opgezegd. Grappig is dat zij uit Jonkoping komt, een plaatsje waar ik ook op mijn reis in 2021 even een stop heb gemaakt. Ik maak uiteindelijk een cappuccino voor haar en zij biedt mij weer een glas wijn aan. Ondertussen loopt de hele parkeerplaats vol met campers. Het word zo opeens een gezellige avond!

The introduction of features like channel subscriptions, donations, and ad revenue has spawned a new breed of content creators—entrepreneurial gamers seeking financial gains. While these platforms provide opportunities for streamers to monetize their passion, some streamers like CDawgVA host Charity Streams where all proceeds of the stream go to charity (Shrivastava 2023).

E-Sports and the Commercialization Wave

E-sports, once shunned upon, has now exploded onto the mainstream scene, bringing both recognition and commercialization (Hou, Yang & Panek 2020). The mass marketing of e-sports events has transformed competitive gaming into a multi-billion-dollar industry where sponsorships, advertising deals, and massive prize pools have become the norm (Abanazir 2021). With the increase in momentum of internet usage, evolution of technology backed by the increase in viewership of Esports online due to the pandemic, this has led to its rise in growth (Yue, Rui & Chiang 2020).

The Gamification of Monetization within Games

In-game purchases, microtransactions, and virtual currencies have become common features in gaming today. While these elements contribute to the revenue stream for game developers, they have also reshaped the dynamics of gaming communities (Anderson, 2018). The gamification of monetization introduces a commercial nature into the gaming experience, blurring the lines between play and profit. In this case, players are not just participants; they are consumers in a virtual marketplace. This shift challenges the traditional idea of gaming as a leisure activity driven by a love for play.

Conclusion

Overall, it can be seen that the nature of gaming has gradually been commercialized. While economic opportunities are prevalent, it is important to preserve the core values that define gaming cultures: fun, joy, and good gameplay (Jones, 2020). Striking a balance between play and profit is crucial to ensure that gaming communities remain vibrant and true to their roots. As monetization continues to weave its way into the gaming scene, maintaining the essence of shared joy, enthusiasm, and genuine connection is key to preserving the unique and cherished spirit of gaming communities.

Thursday’s recap of the ETBU Hockey team’s TAME trip to Sweden is provided by Junior Tim Ruf and Senior Nikolas Roudkovski.

“This morning we started the day with breakfast, enjoying Swedish yogurt, ham, and Swedish pancakes. While eating, we watched videos about the Swedish culture, which helped us better understand where we are serving this week. The time spent together, indulging in local cuisine, help create a special bond among teammates as we built fellowship. We then took time to pray, talk to God, and reflect deeply on what we hope to gain from this trip. After worship, we walked around the city, immersing ourselves in Swedish culture and admiring the breathtaking landscape—meticulously crafted by God’s hand. As we explored, we prayed over various parts of the city, including a school, the government building, and a historic location where the Akren Church first started over 400 years ago.

We then returned to the church and shared Sweden’s traditional Christmas meal for lunch, which was incredible. The food here has exceeded all expectations and my personal favorite so far has been the Swedish meatballs, typically served with gravy and lingonberry sauce. After the meal, we spent time wrapping gifts for those in need and went door to door delivering these gifts to families, while sharing the word of God and inviting them to church. It was humbling and heartwarming to see the joy it brought to others.

Just when we thought the day was winding down, it was only beginning. We left the church for our hockey games, where the D3 team played a local team in Skillingaryds and the D2 played Jonkoping University at the 7000 seat arena in Jonkoping. The D3 team fell in a hard fought game, while the D2 team secured a shootout victory. After the game, both teams shared pizza with our opponents and we had the chance to talk about hockey, life, and culture. It was amazing to see how happy they were to spend time with us.

Some of their players even came onto our bus afterward to express how much our visit meant to them, saying we made their night. That moment was incredibly meaningful and reminded me of how God works through even the smallest connections, bringing people together through a shared love for hockey. Today, I learned that even the little things in life can have a profound impact on someone,” Ruf said.

“We began the day with a prayer walk, praying for the city of Värnamo’s churches, schools, and even their government. I believe God used this walk to center our eyes on Him before we went out to be His instruments later in the day. After an amazing Swedish Christmas lunch, we split into three outreach groups. My group set up a table with coffee and cookies in a busy spot of the city’s downtown and simply tried to build relationships with the people of the city and shine the light of Christ.

It was cold, and few were receptive to what we were offering, but I had a couple conversations that stood out. One was with Daniel, a Christian from the town, and he allowed me to pray over him and his life. Second was Alx. He loved music and even had a CD player in his backpack that he let us listen for a few minutes. In talking more with him, he told me that he went to kindergarten at Arken Church, but has not believed in God since the death of his grandfather. In that moment I felt God tell me to just ‘invite,’ so that’s what I did. He said he would probably come to church with us Sunday and I pray it will be fruitful and that God would plant seeds that will last a lifetime in my new friend Alx. At the end of the night we played the local hockey teams and got to fellowship with them after over some pizza. We’re all excited to see how God will use us next on this trip,” Roudkovski said.
