I’ve noticed some confusion with regards to the characters’ last names. In Spain, people have two last names. Generally, the first last name is the father’s first last name, and the second last name is the mother’s first last name. 

You can opt for the mother’s first last name to go first, but all the children in a family must have the same last name order, regardless of gender. 

Heterosexual couples choosing to make the mother’s first last name the child’s first last name are still relatively rare.

The law where all the children in a family must have the same last name order also applies to same sex couples. You choose the last name order when you fill out and submit the birth certificate.

The last name order is not optional, people refer to a person by their name and first last name, and sometimes both last names. None of the Skam España characters have middle names.

These are the characters’ “legal” names (I mean, they are fictional, but you know!):

Eva is Eva Vázquez. Her full name is Eva Vázquez Villanueva.

Jorge is Jorge Crespo. His full name is Jorge Crespo Gimeno.

Lucas is Lucas Rubio. His full name is Lucas Rubio Fernández.

Inés is Inés Serrano. Her full names is Inés Serrano Martínez.

Lara is Lara Louzan. Her full name is Lara Louzan Castaño.

Viri is Elvira “Viri” Gómez. Her full name is Elvira Gómez García.

Alejandro is Alejandro Beltrán. His full name is Alejandro Beltrán de Miguel.

Cristian is Cristian Miralles. His full name is Cristian Miralles Haro.

Cris is Cristina “Cris” Soto. Her full name is Cristina Soto Peña.

Nora is Nora Grace. She doesn’t have a second last name, which might mean that she was born in the United States and thus a second last name was not required in her birth certificate.

We have yet to learn Amira’s, Hugo’s, Dilan’s and Alicia’s last names.

Other trivia:

Viri’s last names are both incredibly common and generic. She may as well be called Elvira Smith Johnson.

Miralles is a Catalonian last name.

The last name Haro belonged to nobility during the Middle Ages (10th to 14th century).

Alejandro’s second last name, de Miguel, implies that his family is really wealthy. It used to be commonplace among the wealthy that women would take on their husbands’ last name. They’d thus be called, for instance, Señora de Miguel (i.e. Mrs. of Miguel). 

In case it wasn’t obvious, Grace is the English last name and is pronounced as you would in English.

Rubio means “blond” and Castaño means “chestnut tree” and also “brunet.”

SKAM Remakes Masterpost

Since the deluge of SKAM remakes have started, I have had to keep track of a number of different sites/english translations/playlists/character names, so I’m condensing all the information I have into one post for ease of use as a resource.

If you’re totally new here, all of them are based off of the original Norwegian version. Skam = shame in Norwegian. There were 4 seasons. The show is centered around 5 girls at the beginning of high school. Each season focused on a different character and was presented from their perspective. Season 1: Eva. Season 2: Noora. Season 3: Isak. Season 4: Sana. One website was used to provide updates from the main character’s perspective with clips/social media posts/texts/chats.

If you want to watch the original translated into English go here (they also have full episodes of the remakes translated to english when available). This is the original Skam website.

As of the last update of this post: Skam France is currently airing season 3 (Lucas) Skam Italia is about to start season 3 (Eleonora - 11 March 2019) Druck is about to start season 3 (Matteo - 9 March 2019) Skam Austin is about to start season 2 (Grace - 15 March 2019) Skam NL is about to air season 2 (Liv - 18 March 2019) Spain (Eva) and Belgium (Jana) have completed season 1.

Remakes are taking place currently in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Belgium. AmSkam (aka Skam Austin, Skam America) is being run by the original Norwegian team, including creator Julie Andem.

The currently releasing remakes are listed below in the order of their premiere. Please assume that official sites are geoblocked for the specific country.

Season 3 (Lucas) is currently airing and has also been renewed for season 4. It is, minus a few french cultural adjustments, exactly like the original series with plot and script.
