My copy of Junji Ito’s Venus in the Blind Spot came in today! For the past few years Viz has been translating and releasing more and more of Ito’s works, including many of his short story collections. I was delighted to learn that Venus in the Blind Spot contains several stories that haven’t already been translated by fans, including the titular story “Venus in the Blind Spot,” “An Unearthly Love,” and “Keepsake.” The collection also contains what is arguably Ito’s most famous and best story, “The Enigma of Amigara Fault.”

If you’re not familiar with Junji Ito, he’s basically Japan’s Stephen King and reigns as the king of horror manga. His stories are famous for their gorgeous, surreal artwork and outlandish yet very creepy plots. If you have even a passing interest in horror I can’t recommend Junji Ito enough. 

Anyway, I urge people who like Ito’s works to go ahead and buy this collection! As long as Ito’s works keep selling well, Viz will keep translating and publishing them in English and there’s still a huge backlog of Ito’s works to get through.

Temple of geek chic is back covering some exciting news from Crunchyroll! The world’s most popular anime brand is announcing today the exclusive merchandise line for Crunchyroll Expo featuring a Junji Ito capsule collection and a CRX-branded streetwear line.

This year, fans are invited to take a trip and explore Crunchyroll Expo’s New Crunchy City, an interactive anime convention that will transport attendees to a place where anime and Japanese pop culture comes to life.

“This year’s Crunchyroll Expo collection is destination themed. I wanted our line to have an urban city feel to represent New Crunchy City, and the businesses our fans are going to interact with onsite,” said Kristin Parcell, the director of eCommerce at Crunchyroll. “When our fans travel to another city, they might pick up a shirt or a memento from the places they visit – we want the Crunchyroll Expo experience to be the same; so that no matter where our fans travel afterward, they will always remember the excitement and camaraderie of CRX.”

The Crunchyroll Expo destination line was created in collaboration with Suede, a HUF designer, and will include eight different tees, an enamel pin set, and a sticker.

Crunchyroll has officially revealed the exclusive merchandise line for Crunchyroll Expo 2019, featuring a Junji Ito capsule collection and a CRX-branded streetwear line.

This year, fans are invited to take a trip and explore Crunchyroll Expo’s New Crunchy City, an interactive anime convention that will transport attendees to a place where anime and Japanese pop culture comes to life. Since this is the ultimate destination, it’s only fitting that CRX has its own destination line of apparel.

The Crunchyroll Expo destination line was created in collaboration with Suede, a HUF designer, and will include eight different tees, an enamel pin set, and a sticker.

Some of the businesses included in the destination line include the Crunchyroll Hime Maid Cafe featuring Crunchyroll Hime (of course) and the New Crunchy City Fireworks Co. and Ramen Bar, both featuring Hime’s adorable sidekick Yuzu.
