i find it so interesting the way kpoppies will ship groupmates and act supportive of queer people and then ignore OnlyOneOf

like, if its about not liking the music, that's one thing. You're allowed to have your own opinions. It's when it's clear that theyre uncomfortable with sexuality being expressed.

It's not about their mature concepts either.

Because I know these aren't the same people streaming Red Lights (legit has bdsm in it, sorta) or listening to 3D (hopefully the alternate version) or even Bite Me... like i get it.

It's harder to fetishize something when you are confronted with the reality that this is something real people experience and you can't distance yourself from that. I get you.

i was just thinking about junrie and doing my pride month relisten of the be series and

junji's song has some really inconsistent percussion, but rie's song has a fairly steady drum going at all times. in the middle of because, where the two have their fight, the instrumental becomes pretty clear, with the only obvious thing there imo being the completely steady and flat hihat.

junji's personality in their story is pretty free, unrestrained by the stereotypes of society. rie however, takes time to shake off the expectations placed on him, and even then he's only able to do so because of junji's urging.

when junji left rie behind, the drums became completely rigid and unchanging, because rie is only able to free up a bit when he's with junji. after their "break up" though, when at the end theyre having fun together again, the beat in because become slightly irregular again because he can let go of some of the restraints he was under (but not all of them, leading to why the beat is still identifiable)

junji's personality though throughout be mine is completely free, which is why the beat for the whole song is so swingy and basically not even there imo. he has been able to ignore what "society" wants from him, and is spending the whole song trying to get rie to do the same.

idk, i find it cool how the percussion in their songs matches their personalities in their stories

zurui onna, hidoi otoko and the like crazy cover are connected to underground idol, specifically junrie HEAR ME OUT

zurui onna is sung from the perspective of junji. some verses are about rie and others are about another woman who junji is involved with. this would make sense with the dialogue that they have in because (source: because behind the scenes)

after junji and rie fight, junji goes to his other lover's house (like crazy cover) one last time. this especially fits with the opening lines - "she's saying, 'baby, come and follow me, there's not a bad thing here tonight ... stay with me a little while'". he tells her that while he does like her, he can't sustain a relationship where they're both being unfaithful (zurui onna), and contemplates how he should have just stayed with rie all the time. i feel like the ending shot of like crazy is him leaving for the last time, after having a parting kiss with his other lover. he feels ashamed that even after his fight with rie and the realization that he should be with rie instead, he still was intimate with her. that's why he wipes his lips in an attempt to wipe away her kiss.

ooo's work is not very chronological at all so i also think that this scene, and the scenes of him in the denim jacket in general, have to do with rie. here he's standing outside his doorstep, contemplating if he should knock.

he doesn't knock. him and rie smooth things over later on instead, at the pool scene in because. this is also reminiscent of seoul drift, and how throughout ui junji the one approaching rie and initiating things with him, and rie finally reciprocated in seoul drift.

and finally, a note on hidoi otoko. i think it's their first and only (so far) song to explicitly refer to their lover as male, and it definitely feels sung from the perspective of rie. lyrically it describes being in an on-and-off relationship with someone, and wanting to stay with them forever instead of the instability they have now. the lover doesn't listen - reminds me of this line in the because mv

rie wants to talk about the issues in their relationship so that it can last longer, but junji is impulsive and only wants things to be perfect now. (he realizes this was a mistake after the fight).

also it wld make sense for a jp release specifically to be from their povs bc their stage names are japanese

Rie Board (ft. Junji, Yoojung, & Nine)

This is one of a series of seven OnlyOneOf boards I made for @cora-writes-things for Christmas! One for each of the boys presently in the band + one for the band as a whole (there is overlap between the boys on the boards, since they're all so interconnected, and there isn't a separate board for Love, but he does make a few cameos!
