Ich bin heute über nen Kommentar unter Marc-Uwe Kling's Podcast mit Luisa Neubauer als Gast gestolpert, der sich darüber aufregt, dass Kling plötzlich so politisch ist.

Alter... Junge, der Typ, der die Känguruh-Chroniken geschrieben hat, ist politisch?! No shit, Sherlock! Klar, nutzt er absurde Ideen wie ein kommunistisches Känguruh, aber dass er gleich politisch ist...

Um Dürrenmatt zu zitieren: 'Uns kommt nur noch die Komödie bei.'

Und es ist nicht ohne Grund, dass ein schlagfertiges Känguruh einer der Protagonisten ist und nicht dessen Gegenspieler, der kapitalistische Pinguin...

Today I stumbled over a comment under Marc Uwe Kling's podcast (a political stand-up artist) starring Luisa Neubauer (an environmental activist and politician of the German political party Alliance 90/The Greens) that Kling suddenly had to go political.

Which, dude, friend, bro, the guy who wrote 'The Kanguru Chronicles' has political opinions? Nooooo wayyyy! Surely, his absurdist scetches containing a pragmatically communist kanguru doesn't mean he has a political opinion at all.

As Friedrich Dürrenmatt said: Since the absurdity of the modern world cannot be described in a tragedy, then we can only use comedy. (Sorry, English speakers, I tried to translate the sense of that sentence and it was hard...)

There is a reason why the sassy kanguru is one of the protagonists and not its nemesis, the capitalistic penguin...

Pinnacles im Nambung Nationalpark

5. Dezember - Bereits um halb acht werden wir für die deutschsprachige Führung in mehrere Parks abgeholt

Daraus wird eine sehr interessante Fahrt mit berndeutsch sprechendem Privatchauffeur, der seit über 20 Jahren bei Perth lebt

Zuerst sehen wir in Yanchep Kakadus, Känguruhs und Koalas

Nach 200 km Fahrt im Mitsubishi spazieren wir durch die eindrücklichen Pinnacles

Zum Schluss schauen wir noch die hohen, schneeweissen Sanddünen in Lancelin

Monika tut das so intensiv, dass sie zuhause ein dringendes Duschbedürfnis hat

Jänner 2023 - Gasthaus zum Breitenseer

Beisl, Tschumsn oder Tschocherl.

Ecklokale haben oft einen eigenen Charme. So auch das Gasthaus zum Breitenseer, welches sich direkt an der Ecke Breitenseer Straße/Draskovichgasse befindet. Eine Gegend in der man kein nobles Lokal erwartet. Und auch nicht findet.

Vermutlich ist dieses Gasthaus schon seit vielen, vielen Jahren an dieser Ecke in Breitensee zu finden, mit vermutlich wechselnden, möglicherweise sogar abenteuerlichen Besitzverhältnissen. In Erinnerung bleibend ist jedenfalls das Erlebnis dieses Gasthausbesuchs bei unserer Stammtischrunde gewesen. Normalerweise erwartet man ja nicht viel, wenn man sich in ein "Gasthaus" dieser Qualität begibt. Und zuviel haben wir wirklich keinesfalls erwartet (und auch nicht bekommen).

Das Gasthaus zum Breitenseer besticht durch ein klassisches Beisl/Gasthaus-Innenleben und Feeling.

Dürftige Sanitäranlagen, die jeden weiblichen Nicht-Stammgast verschrecken oder zumindest langfristig verstören. Männliche Besucher sind ohnehin andere Zustände gewohnt und beachten solche Latrinen nicht weiter.

"Inneneinrichtung",wäre wohl zu schön formuliert, denn dann hätte sich jemand überlegen müssen wie das Lokal einzurichten sei. Hier sieht es eher nach, über die Jahre angesammelten Klimbim und Hausrat, in wahlloser Anordnung aus. Typisch Beisl eben.

Eine zu große Speisekarte mit teils wilden Ausflügen ins Exotische (Stichwort Känguruh-Steak). Viel Auswahl zu niedrigen Preisen. Das Essen war aber durchwegs in Ordnung, wenn auch nicht überragend gut.

(Getränke)Preise dem Publikum entsprechend, natürlich ebenfalls niedrig.

Service: Wir wurden bedient.

Publikum: Es kamen lediglich Personen an unserem Tisch vorbei die eigentlich nicht mehr alleine außer Haus gehen sollten. (Jeder von ihnen saß dann wenigstens alleine an einem eigenen Tisch, damit keine Missverständisse zwischen den Gästen entstehen können)

Insgesamt vergeben wir 5/10 Maggiflascherl, für diesen nicht alltäglichen Beislbesuch.

Fazit: Man muss solche Lokale gesehen und erlebt haben um darüber urteilen zu können. Es ist trotzdem schön, dass es sie gibt.

4. What is a book series that everyone else loves but you do not?

I can't immediately think of an answer so I'll look through some of my stats.

Ohhhh now I know. Die Känguruh-Chroniken by Marc-Uwe Kling. I had almost forgotten I listened to the first book at some point. But yeah. Everyone hails the series as this perfect piece of art and I'm like "why is this so repetitive???"

10. What is a book that you own more than one copy of?

Too many? But to choose one, The Kingdom of Gods by N. K. Jemisin. I first bought a new copy but when it arrived it had a different cover than was shown online and didn't fit with the rest of the series covers so I bought a copy of the right version used :D

14. What book gives you happy memories?

The Foxhole Court because I reread most of the series with @theridiculouslyme in 2020 and we had a lot of fun overanalyzing the fuck out of it :D

39. What book offended you?

Can't believe I forgot the title, hating this book felt like part of my personality for a while, lemme look for it.

It's Whipped by Jenika Snow. It's offensively bad. Oh my god.

48. What book made you angry?

Winger by Andrew Smith is the only book I ever threw against the wall and then into the trash right after finishing so. That. But Vampires of Portlandia by Jason Tanamor might be a close second with that stupid ending.

Morning :) Do you have any recommendations for German literature? Favourite books?

Hi there!

Oh yes, I have.

One of my absolute favs is : Otfried Preußler, 'Krabat'. I even wrote a Jonsa AU for that : New Year's Eve at the Black Mill. (in case you want to get a feel for it and don't read German) I've read it many times already. It's a young adult book but it has very serious and dark themes and you could argue that it is a metaphor for the seduction of young people in Nazi times (but also a retelling of an old Sorbic Folk tale).

Another fav is: Ulla Hahn, 'Das verborgene Wort'. It takes place in the Rhineland, which is my home and it is a wonderful book on the power of language, literature and reading.

Wolfgang Hildesheimer, 'Lieblose Legenden' and 'Paradies der falschen Vögel', classics of comedy if you ask me.

Saša Stanišić, 'Vor dem Fest'. I know his name doesn't look German (lol) - that is because he migrated to Germany at the age of 14 when his family fled Yugoslavia. He is a meticulous observer but you really have to dive into the detailed characteristics he writes.

I love, love, love Robert Gernhardt. His funny lyrics are fantastic.

And then there is Marc-Uwe Kling and his Kangaroo ('Känguruh- Chroniken') which I honestly don't know how to describe to you. Imho opinion you should listen to the audio-book, because it is even funnier with Kling doing the voices. You can check this clip on Youtube in English if you want (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9coI5i7uV9o&t=0s) to get an idea what it is about (just disregard his accent). And yes, it's comedy but he is also quite obversant.

There is also 'Qualityland' a distopian novel by the same author. It's funny and extremely disconcerting at the same time. You have to laugh and at the same time the laughter sticks in your throat and you want to cry.

I would also recommend children's books and stories that are clever, a bit subversive and all in all just wonderful: That is Paul Maar, all the books about the Sams and Ellis Kaut, all the stories about Pumuckl.

It is quite difficult to describe what exactly the Sams and Pumuckl are.

Honorary mention to Michael Ende's 'Momo' and 'Die Unendliche Geschichte' (please never watch the movie), to Cornelia Funke for her fantasy novels and to Sam Feuerbach who writes 'classical' fantasy but with refreshing characters and a lot of humour.

One of my all time favourites is also a classic. I've never come to like Goethe our greatest classic, but I like Friedrich Schiller very much. He is very serious but he has a wonderful ability to do dramatic twists in his plays and there is a reason that some of his one-liners have become common sayings in German.

I'm sure I forgot quite a lot of my favs. lol
