Hello fren :D. How are the baby kittens doing? Well, them and their moms (and that one uncle just chilling lol) also how are you? Have a good day! ( I hope you don't mind me always saying that lol, it's sort of a habit xD)

Hi! Sorry for the kitten update delay, it's been busy around here, especially since the baby babies are finally getting big enough to do, well, anything. xD

Maraly's kittens are two weeks old! They're getting so big and fluffy, they can hear and their eyes are all open now! They have started clumsily trying to play with each other, clean themselves, and toddle around. They're absolutely precious and they look like baby Ewoks.

^That is Gray, the firstborn and, apparently, first at everything! She (pretty sure it's a girl) was not only the first kitten born, but the first to open her eyes and (along with her sibling, Four) the first to start toddling! She also might be the first kitten to genuinely start to like me. xD

And this^ is one of the little black ones. All Maraly's babies are over 11 ounces now! Gray, as of today, was 12!

Leeli's babies are also doing well, though we've had to keep a closer eye on them. The littler ones sometimes struggle to gain weight with their three bigger, fightsy siblings! I've been taking away the three biggest ones when I weigh them and putting them on a blanket and/or heating pad outside Leeli's box (still in her pen, she can hear them and see them if she sits up) and letting the three smaller ones eat alone for a bit before putting the bigger three back to help them.

Leeli's babies have started to open their eyes too! This is one of the little ones, it's hard to tell them apart (sometimes the only way to do it is by their weight) but I think this is the runt!

^those three are from last week when Leeli's were littler, but they're so stinkin' cute I couldn't not include them. <3

Maraly and Leeli are doing well! They are very good, VERY attentive mamas! Maraly RUNS to check on either litter of babies if she hears them cry and has started the classic mama cat thing of snatching the baby back and carrying it to safety if she feels it's in distress. Which can be difficult when I'm weighing the babies. xD Leeli somehow looks better after giving birth to and feeding six kittens than she did on the streets, which is a testament to the care and love we've been giving her.

Leeli did have a seventh kitten that was stillborn. It was not born alive, because it had never moved from the fetal position. Leeli took SUCH good care of it, not only had it been thoroughly cleaned, but my mom said that when she found it in the morning the kitten was tucked in with the others and it was warm. So it was simply not meant to make it.

OH and KALMAR! Kalmar is neutered now!!!! So he shall stay the sweetest, happiest little guy. He was traumatized by going to the vet for a few days, but he's recovered from that and he's back to being his happy, purry self. <3

THE WINGFEATHER KITTENS (aka the baby Bengals I rescued off the streets)

They are all beautiful, sweet little babies about 5 months old.

Kalmar is a little lovebug and an absolute dork. He loves to cuddle and wants nothing more than the love of every human and cat he meets. Unfortunately his sisters are hormonal and hiss at him a lot, which makes him sad and confused. But he keeps trying! He loves them a lot <3 (he gets tons of love and attention from me and my parents, don't worry) He likes to talk to himself.

Maraly is a little SPITFIRE. She is lovable to humans but temperamental around her siblings and other cats. She wants attention CONSTANTLY and if she sees you petting or holding her siblings she gets jealous and comes over to ask for attention as well and maybe hiss at her brother/sister. But oh my goodness is she sweet to people! She gave me kisses today! We're hoping that once we get her spayed (we have to wait a few months, the girls are very thin from being on the streets) she'll mellow a bit.

Leeli is very observant and thoughtful. She was the original Bengal kitten who started all this and the last one I caught (a week ago)! I'll just say it, she's my favorite. I love them all, but she's my favorite. I had to go through so much to save her and I feel connected to her because of it. She's still a bit shy, but getting better every day! She's been getting friendlier as she starts to feel safe here. And she has the sweetest little meow. She loves to be stroked while she's laying sleepily on "her" chair.

All three live on our screened front porch at the moment while we get them healthy and flea-free. They sleep in separate pens but we let them out while we're around during the day so they can wander the porch and lounge places (Kalmar is the only one who seems to know how to play ;-;). They are all so sweet and loving, not to mention GORGEOUS. Truly they are jewels, and I don't know who was foolish enough to abandon them, but that's their loss. They're my babies now and I love them. <3

Kalmar folds his arms behind his back again, thumb hooked around the inside of his elbow -- stifling the ridiculous temptation to start pawing at the man, running his hands over him like a museum artefact or the back of a venomous snake. He's not quite that rude to his elders.

"I'm sure," he says, easily, as unironic as he can make it sound.

(Kalmar lets his carefully nonchalant gaze drift from the particular gash Nil was maybe referring to down to the fingertips of the numb hand, wonders for a second if you could find enough unmarked to bind a book.)

He doubts it. He can practically see the fresh wound somewhere beneath it, he thinks, and he doubts it was any less violent than his imagination is insisting.

He also can't seem to summon any real measure of distaste.

Impressive, is the word that comes to mind. He's impressed. It's kind of... cool, really, just how bad he looks. Overall. Is that fucked? Would people consider that fucked?

Well, he just thought Nil was kind of cool for what must be the third time this week, so probably.

"Remind me to interrogate you about the time you lost a fistfight to twenty kittens, then," he hums. And that's not funny, he's pretty sure, but it signals that he's not poking you any harder today -- see, I can be circumspect, we can move on. Even though I'd murder something to hear your life story, I think.

If you count Maraly, Leeli and Kalmar + all eleven new kittens, we now have 14 kittens, which is enough to equal the Company of Thorin Oakenshield and this is so funny to me.

im dying to know how the kitties are doing!

Okay, it's funny, I was actually planning to make a little update post today and then this ask popped up so it was perfect.

So, shocking all of us, there are no baby-babies yet. Neither Leeli nor Maraly have had their kittens. We really really wished they had this weekend since, you know, we were around, and it's pretty frustrating that they haven't yet because we can tell they're so close. They're probably going to go into labor while we're all at work or in the middle of a work-night and- anyway, I'm just worried about this going well and I don't want them to have their babies alone.

But! They have now had three full weeks of consistent healthy food and care so hopefully that helps them make it through the actual labor and delivery and having babies alright. So that part is good even though the timing is frustrating.

Maraly has TWO confirmed currently-alive kittens kicking around in her womb, I felt them today! They were on opposite sides of her tummy so I know they were two different babies. I've felt at least one alive-and-kicking kitten in Leeli. I'm REALLY hoping these ones make it! Of course I want all of them to make it, but knowing that three are alive at the moment makes me really want to, well, keep them that way! We didn't know if all their kittens would be stillborn so this is very encouraging.

Maraly and Leeli LOVE being in the house. They are SO happy and chill. They are the sweetest little things, they don't yowl when they're out of their pens, which is new for us! All our old Bengals learned to scream from our oldest Bengal, Shanti (may she enjoy causing chaos in heaven) but Leeli and Maraly don't yowl! It's very refreshing.

Kalmar is the HAPPIEST kitten alive. He seems to be flea-free now so we've been letting him into the house in my parent's bedroom (which is adjacent to the front porch). He does get lonely without his sisters, but he is SO HAPPY to see us and loves to play and bounce around.

Belle and Padfoot, our two adult indoor cats, are still deeply confused and disgruntled about the existence of these tiny Bengal cats. The kittens are afraid of them, not because they're mean (tho there has been hissing on both sides) but because they're BIG. The girls, and even Kalmar, are still small, they're just kittens! Belle and Padfoot are easily two-three times their size. Also Belle looks like a dustbunny that came to life, seriously, we have NEVER seen a cat remotely like her and neither have the kittens. xD

So, yeah, overall the kittens are doing well! We just wish Maraly and Leeli would hurry up and have their babies already! (Leeli especially is definitely ready, she's so tired of dragging these kids along with her xD)

Baby Bengal Update

So updates on my new kittens. First, we named the little boy Kalmar because while he looks like a T'challa... the purrsonality is not there. xD So dorky sweet Kalmar it is!

Second, the kittens are discovering that we have other cats! Sid, our outdoor, neutered but still gigantic, tomcat, made first contact with them a few days ago completely of his own accord:

Sid has been a complete gentleman! He has not hissed or growled at the babies once, just sniffs them and then guards them for a bit before wandering through the yard and providing them with entertainment (he's their favorite tv show xD). He is very curious about them and gets concerned and comes to check on them when they cry. Tansy, meanwhile, Sid's 14-year-old adoptive mother, wants nothing to do with the kittens, she has not visited them once or shown any interest in them. She raised her son, thank you very much, she doesn't want more kids! xD (not that the babies would EVER be outside cats again, but it's the principle of the thing)

Sid has been above and beyond a good big brother to the babies already and I think he even made them feel safer the other day. See, our neighbors walk their dogs up and down the road every day and they're two little Scotti dogs (actually they're about the same size as Sid xD). They're rescue dogs though, and one of them is VERY aggressive to cats. The neighbors are working to train it out of this, but every time it sees a cat in our yard it seems compelled to bark/scream like it's being murdered and lunge at the cat.

Sid knows this. He's been dealing with this for quite some time, and while the dog makes him uncomfortable, he doesn't run from it.

So, the other day he was outside while we were on the front porch with the kittens. He likes to "guard" the babies and he truly did that day. While the neighbors walked their dogs past he positioned himself DIRECTLY between the dogs and the kittens. He did not budge a single whisker the whole time the angry dog was barking and screaming and lunging at him (they were like 30 ft away from each other Sid was not in danger). And every single one of the babies saw him put himself between them and danger.

And then the next day Leeli all of a sudden was acting friendly and comfortable like she hadn't before and I think it's because she saw Sid protecting them?! Like, she might be intimidated by the size of Sid but if this huge cat is just gonna put himself between them and danger then maybe she is truly safe here. And I just 😭 SID IS SUCH A GOOD BOY AND HE LOVES HIS NEW KITTENS

Any updates on the kitties???

Kalmar is a house Bengal now! It's been getting cold at night and even cozy beds only do so much on the porch since it's only screened, so my dad cleaned up the little room next to my parent's bedroom for him (we call it an office but it's not an office at all it's more like a storeroom). During the day we'll leave a window open just a bit for him to crawl in and out of so he can be on the porch or inside (we made this for our old Bengals years ago, it's called the Portal and the window is stuck so that it won't go up any further but can still be pulled down so we can leave it open while we're gone and not worry about like burglars or something).

Maraly and Leeli STILL haven't had kittens. We're losing our minds and so are they. Maraly has got some LIVELY kittens in there, they kick all the time! And I've still been feeling at least one in Leeli.

Also, I will try and make an update when the kittens are born! I have to get a picture of them when they're new-newborn because I told my counselor this whole story and found out he's never seen a newly born kitten and has no idea how tiny they are so I have to remedy this. xD

Rescue Bengal Kitten update (warning for discussions of possible animal death)

I'm feeling very much like the guy who pulled over on the side of the road to rescue one kitten standing there and ended up rescuing fifteen.

We have been forced to accept that Leeli and Maraly are pregnant. Which is. upsetting, because I really don't think they're more than six months old. Like, I need to stress that as much as I want teeny tiny newborn babies to raise again I didn't want the KITTENS I rescued to be pregnant. But, unfortunately, my mom and I agree that they definitely are. Current likely theory is that when they went into heat at around 4 months (which is APPARENTLY the earliest cats can get pregnant) their former owners couldn't deal with the yowling (if you have never heard a cat in heat count yourself blessed) and instead of getting them spayed they threw them out on the streets. And the girls subsequently got pregnant.

I also have to stress that we don't know if their kittens will be born alive or survive after they're born. Maraly and Leeli (especially Leeli) were STARVING when I found them, and depending on how long they've been pregnant the unborn kittens might not have had enough nutrients to survive....

BUT if I hadn't gone and saved these kittens Maraly and Leeli would have died after they had kittens AND their kittens would have died. Guaranteed. So at least now the little girls should make it through okay and hopefully some of the kittens make it. I am already fully dedicated to doing EVERYTHING in my power to keep as many kittens alive as possible.

Uh, however this also means we'll have to care for an unknown amount of kittens soon which we weren't planning for. We've never really had a surplus of money but goshdarnit if I have to use 98% of my paycheck (the other 2% is for gas) for the whole year to pay for their food, litter and spaying and neutering I WILL do it. They don't call me a crazy cat lady for nothing.

Anyway, sorry for a more serious post about my new babies, but we could really use some prayers here. My mom especially is having a hard time wrapping her head around it. Part of me wants to be excited but I'm also sad that Maraly and Leeli don't get to be KITTENS like they should. ... but this does mean I might get to raise some kittens from newborns and my GOSH have I missed teeny tiny babies ;-;

All kittens are beginning to adjust! They're getting calmer and starting to accept this as their home. They did lots of exploring of the front porch today (under my supervision) and wore themselves out! They've all been treated for fleas and we're going to start working on worming them in a day or two. The little girls hiss and growl at their poor confused brother a lot and we're fairly sure it's because they're at the age where they start going into heat, so their hormones are making them grumpy. But they're getting a lot calmer and none of them have been fighting and they respond VERY well to verbal tones when I tell them, "It's okay" "Calm down" "Be nice!"

They're all little sweethearts. Baby boy wants love the most, he just wants to snuggle all day. Maraly and Leeli like being held because then they can see over the latticework to the world beyond :)

For those who didn't see my post the other day, here's the story of how I rescued three Bengal kittens from the streets.

Maraly has had her kittens! She had FIVE kittens, to be exact, which we never would have guessed, we figured she only had four! All seem healthy so far and Maraly is doing well. There are 4 black babies and her firstborn is gray! Also the runt looks just like Maraly, which is adorable.

I got to midwife all the babies and Maraly was very happy to have me there and okay with me handling them. She had them on our (old, rarely used) couch! Leeli was VERY concerned about her sister and stayed close to her the ENTIRE time she was giving birth and has been checking on her ever since. Kalmar heard his sister cry from the other room and started talking to her! Belle and Padfoot were even deeply concerned about the little kitty's distress!

Maraly did AMAZING, she is being SUCH a good little mama I am SO proud of her <3

Kittens will NOT have names until they're at least one month old because at that point the likelihood of them surviving starts to go up (after six weeks they are very likely to make it and be fine, four weeks is a minimum). Until then they will have placeholder names. "Gray" is the firstborn, "Four" is the runt, other placeholder names tba.

KITTEN UPDATE

Oh my word it's been so long, okay I don't have much time but here's a quick(?) update:

Four kittens are now at their new homes! We delivered them last week during the holidays because that's when everyone had time off. Inkheart, Sabine and Prince went to the same home with a nice girl about my age who works at a local bakery my mom gets us bread and scones from. They seem to be settling in quite well and getting used to their new kitty and doggy siblings.

Dustfinger went to our one repeat customer, who roughly 16 years ago got another kitten I was very attached to, Silverstream! She loved him so much she named him Romeo but he and his Bengal brother are gone now and she didn't plan to ever get another... And then she saw Dustfinger's pictures and decided she did, in fact, need another Bengal. We delivered him halfway between our houses on New Year's Eve since no one had to work that day or the next! This lady got us a reservation at a very nice Italian restaurant and made an arrangement with the owner so we could bring Dustfinger inside with us! We had a lovely time and Dustfinger was a little angel, just crying softly a little when he started to get tired. We even made a connection with a manager at the restaurant who might also want one of our kittens! Dustfinger is doing amazing, he slept on his new mama's lap the whole way home and has been tearing around their house, being a little snugglebug and befriending their older cat ever since!

We lost our appointments to get the babies and mamas spayed/neutered all at once so we're doing them a few at a time at a different place now (the first one just suddenly stopped doing the low cost spay/neuters, we don't know why). Farid, and Sabine or Inkheart (depending on if their new mama can tell them apart and which one she sends- it's supposed to be Sabine but they're both black girls who look a lot alike xD) are getting done tomorrow. Dustfinger and Prince both got neutered before they went to their new homes which was fantastic! And thankfully my mom never cancelled Leeli and Maraly's original appointments this month so they'll be getting spayed on January 24th I think? Which is good because they are cranky from being in heat all the time.

Kalmar is doing amazing! He is my dad's cat now and my dad is having a great time with him, even taking him out on walks on nice days! (yes some cats go on walks on a harness and leash just like dogs do, we've had a number of Bengals who liked to do that)

There is one more major thing that has happened but I'm gonna give it its own post, so for now I will just say it is a good thing and it makes me very happy.

About your Wingfeather kittens, did you notice that their coats match their characters' hair colors? Also if you've seen it, how do you feel about the Wingfeather saga tv series?

Ah, haha, you're right they do! I hadn't really noticed that except with Kalmar, when I named them it was because their purrsonalities matched the characters. (well, except for Leeli being shy, but she was unexpectedly fiesty considering how innocent looking she is, and that is very Leeli)

I love the tv show! Well, most of it. I have a beef with the last few minutes of episode 6 specifically for leaving out a bunch of extremely important information from the book and also Janner and Peet's hug, but besides that I love it! I think that the changes they've made when translating it from a book make sense and I love all the actors and actresses they've recruited for it (which isn't exclusive to the big name ones, the kids are *flips table* SO CUTE and I think they're doing a PERFECT job with their characters).

Also I say I have issues with episode 6, but it really is just those last few minutes I SCREAMED when Peet and Nugget showed up and were fighting the Fangs. Also when Peet's talons got revealed, I was really just screaming a lot the last two episodes. xD

Okay and now that I'm thinking about it again I do not understand why most of episode 5 was Like That. The first half felt largely unnecessary when the kids could literally just have been captured with Nia and Podo like in the book (and yes they wanted to have the kids see earlier that Zouzab was a traitor to really drive that home to them, but there were easier ways to have done that) and they could have used the extra time for episode 6 and explaining the whole flight from Anniera/why Podo hates Peet/letting Peet have the panic attack he did in the book why would you not have him react to Esben's name I'm-

*cough* Anyway, I don't know if they're on this blog or my main blog but somewhere I have a bunch of posts about how I LOVE what they're doing visually to really SHOW the story and that they're building parallels for things later. Like, for example, making the Sea Dragons able to loom RIGHT over the cliff the kids are on instead of being far below when they react to Leeli's song and how that visually is going to parallel the scene in book 2 where Leeli calms Yurgen down with his song and then touches him. Like I deeply hope there are Wingfeather people capable of making gifs because when that scene from book 2 drops I'm gonna lose my mind.

I love Peet in the show. ;-; He's my favorite character and they are doing him SO fantastically well and also affirming a bunch of my headcanons so that's exciting. :D "Escape to Peet's Castle" is just *chef's kiss* perfection. I have every scene of the kids and Peet screenshotted and saved on my computer almost second by second.

And on that note I am SO excited to finally have all these characters visualized and to be able to take screenshots of them and this show is just so PRETTY my gosh. I love the character designs and the places and the lovely backgrounds.

All this being said I am waiting in fear and trepidation for season 2. Them leaving out some very important things at the end of season 1 has made me very anxious to see if they'll be able to keep doing this well. I'm worried that they're trying to go too fast and that some of the quality is gonna get sacrificed. But a lot of that is because I've been burned before by tv shows that started out AMAZING and rapidly deteriorated. But I pray for everyone involved with the show every night to have wisdom/guidance so I'm trying to trust God with it.

So, overall, I really love the show and I hope they can keep doing it well, I just have a few concerns. I'll stop now because this got long and kind of rambly. Thanks for asking!

Kitten update!

ALL the kittens (including Leeli, Maraly and Kalmar) have had their shots! And since, due to circumstances beyond our control, the lady who did Maraly's babies wasn't able to do Leeli's yesterday, *I* gave Leeli's babies their shots! And I gave them to Maraly, Leeli and Kal!

I had watched the older kittens get their shots (the lady who did theirs has a pet salon but she was a vet nurse for years) and was pretty confident I could give the littles theirs. And indeed I could! The only ones who gave us any trouble were Farid (who panicked and flailed about, but my mom kept him from leaping off the table with a syringe in his neck ahgaldksjdf) and Maraly, who apparently has very thick skin. But I persisted and they ALL got their shots in!

In total I gave shots to nine kittens today! Never done this before in my life, but I figured it out pretty quick from watching and doing it a couple times- you've gotta poke them in their scruff in their "sweet spot", which is apparently a spot that everyone but Maraly has where the needle goes in really easily, and if you do it right the kitten kind of just deflates as you squirt the meds in. xD

I'm very happy and, you know what, yeah, I'm proud of myself too. None of the kittens are holding it against me (except maybe Maraly) and in fact I have Meggie and Madia asleep on my lap as I type this.

Leeli's kittens names!

So I said I'd make a separate post for introducing Leeli's babies and here it is! If you haven't seen the one introducing Maraly's babies you can find it here!

Now, without further ado, Leeli's six babies have names! They only just turned a month old, but they've been all doing so well that we named them last week along with Maraly's. So, behold the kittens! (P.S. no tumblr's not destroying the quality for once, the kittens are in perpetual motion it's only through decades of practice that I can manage to get any decent pictures of them at all xD)

So if you remember from the post introducing Maraly's kittens we've named most of them after characters from Inkheart. So this cute little bugger is Dustfinger! He started off his life screaming at everything and being a fightsy little bugger, but ever since his eyes/ears opened he's been much calmer and friendlier. He was the first of Leeli's kittens to start eating wet food and he is VORACIOUS about it! He's a playful, wiggly little guy but he's also very sweet.

This is Farid! He has the same purrsonality as his uncle Kalmar which is happy go lucky and sweet as can be! He LOVES to climb up onto the lap of the nearest human and snuggle- he'll snuggle even if you scoop him up from playing. He'll also climb your leg if given the chance, he and Dustfinger teamed up and attacked my leg earlier today. xD He's the only kitten I've been able to consistently identify since birth because of his black nose!

And here we have Violet who is a struggle to get a decent picture of- which is ironic because she has some incredibly striking markings! She wants so badly to be the leader of her siblings, but she does not have the presence yet. She cries a lot to try and get their attention and is always eager to join in activities with her littermates. She likes to perch (often on my knees) and watch the other kittens before joining in.

This sweet little bean is Meggie. She likes to wander off on her own adventures and sometimes gets distressed when she loses track of her siblings. She's very calm in nature and doesn't tussle as much as her littermates. I often see her hanging out with one of her sisters- when she's not off on her own that is. I'm not sure why she looks perpetually worried, but she was smiling when I was cuddling her earlier. <3

So I mentioned in my post introducing Maraly's kittens that I had one special little kitten with a Wingfeather name. This is Madia. For those who don't know, Madia Wingfeather is the Wingfeather kids' great great grandmother, I believe, and it's her whistleharp that Leeli uses after the end of book one. To make a long story short, Madia looks like Mozart, the kitten I got my username from who also sparked my 4 book original series, The Restoration Saga. Mozart's litter was a tragedy for me, and Mozart herself died when she was only 3 weeks old. Madia looks so, so much like her, and Madia sounds a bit like Mozart so this is my compromise for not naming the kitten "Mozart 2". Madia is an adventurous little soul! She likes to investigate everything and she might actually be the leader of her siblings. She is so, so sweet and she loves to be held and cuddled. She was the runt for a while, and I was worried about her, but she now weighs over a pound and has passed the title of runt on to...

Tulip! Tiny Tulip is the littlest of all the kittens and I absolutely adore her. I love, love, LOVE tiny things, ESPECIALLY tiny kittens, and all runts have a special place in my heart. Tulip is a little fluffball and I named her Tulip because it suited her. She has a very Bengal attitude, wanting to see everything and be anywhere something is going on. She is NOT intimidated by her bigger siblings and cousins! In fact, she often attacks Ellie, the biggest of all the kittens, to playfight with her! That being said though, she does often take refuge hiding by my feet or on my knees and I frequently scoop her out of situations that are getting out of her control. She doesn't mind some cuddles but she wants to run around and be fiesty too! She is the only kitten still under a pound but she's consistently gaining weight and I'm so proud of her. <3 Oh, and she and Madia are besties! I often see them playing and cuddling together, so we're going to try and get them a home together.

So there's your introduction to Leeli's six kittens! I love all these babies so much and it is going to be very hard for me to give them up, especially Madia and Tulip (they're my favorites, I'm not even going to try and hide that xD). They're getting so big and busy and they're so much fun!

When he sees the translucent fire-filled orb in Kalmar's hand, the first thing Yuki does is grasp at where the necklace usually hangs. Finding nothing but his empty grip, Yuki looks up at Kalmar with worry in his eyes, a departure from the usual joy resting there.

"How did you-" although the orb is still within short range, he swears he can feel the magic which fuels his illusory appearance draining from his body.

Yuki offers a smile, though it does little to mask his panic. "I must have dropped it." Though he knows full well it had been around his neck just moments ago; he hopes his lie is not seen through. "I really should get the chain replaced."

He holds out a hand and says, "Thanks for picking it up. I owe you."

He registers Yuki's concern with a sort of detached amusement, like he's watching a nervous kitten -- failing to suppress a rather self-satisfied smile as he turns back to admire the soft light of the necklace.

He hadn't actually planned on letting on that he had it quite so soon -- he'd been a couple seconds too slow to tuck it away, and perhaps Yuki was a little sharper than he'd hoped -- but no matter.

"That would be a good idea," he agrees, twisting the chain between his fingers. What sort of imbecile keeps something so obviously invaluable on a standard jewellery clasp? "Really, Yuki, you need to take better care of your things. Anybody could have picked it up." He's not sure if he's really that oblivious, but he doesn't mind playing along.

Kalmar ignores the open hand as blithely as if it weren't there at all.

"What is this made of, anyway?" he prods at the surface of the orb.

Better than he'd imagined, actually. Hurley makes a fine picture of drawn and bedridden, and he seems a tad bruised, but he can't see any pustules or missing limbs or tentacles or the like. Maybe he's already been victimised by a healer.

Kalmar takes the opportunity to loom, scrutinising him with crossed arms. "Worse," he assures him, "You're not half as strikingly handsome as you're imagining." He aims for an unconcerned smile, and misses by a few inches.

It's only natural that this sort of thing should happen, isn't it? Hurley may be able to keep himself afloat with bribery, but he has a... limited ability to defend himself out here. When it comes down to it, he's like a slow, plump rabbit in the ecosystem of the student body, one prone to talking shit and occasionally defrauding clients, and Kalmar is under no obligation to leap to his defence.

Quite the opposite, really. He can't stand up for Corman, not in public -- surely that's obvious. Even if he won (and he was outnumbered)... Hell, he should be thanking him for not joining in, just to keep up appearances.

Still. He feels bad. Like he just stabbed a kitten: entirely within his principles, in theory, and yet something seems undeniably off about it.

He fakes a cough, sinks down to sit on the foot of the bed. "Would you like me to lay a curse on everybody responsible? I'm sure we could arrange some sort of discount."
