Y'all know that dust storm we had the other day? Well, a tree fell on our house (the landlord will handle it) and we, uh. Got a refugee. Which the landlord not only will not handle, he will not like.

Meet Pepper.

He's male, approximately eight weeks old. He is very small for his age (only about 60% of his target weight), but also seems healthy--his eyes are bright and clean, and he's curious and playful with no sneezing, coughing, etc. We're basically letting him have as much food as he wants to bring him up to weight. He was very wobbly on his feet when he first came inside, but with a couple of days of good food he's gotten very sturdy on his feet.

Pepper came inside as a feral kitten, but acclimatized quickly to humans. He's curious and friendly with our adult cats, even though they're being super-bratty about us having a foster; he'll do well with either an attentive human or with other cats. Pepper doesn't enjoy sitting in laps, but Imma level with you guys, that is 100% a kitten thing and I don't know if he'll be a cuddler when he grows up. It's not so much "Pepper doesn't enjoy laps" as it is "Pepper doesn't enjoy sitting still." He's sitting next to me while I type this and I don't think I've seen him in one place for this long the whole time we've had him. He's a little confused by toys, but he's learning, and the process is hilarious.

He will need neutered; although he's old enough for the procedure, he's not yet at a safe weight. He'll also need his standard "hello, I was an outdoor kitten" wellness vet visit. We don't have actual supplies beyond wet food for him (he's eating out of our saucers because while we do have an extra food dish, it's too big for him, and he's using a plastic-lined Cheerios box as a litter box because the litter box is also too big for him), but this goes with him when his foster time with us is done.

Hey, so I always promised myself I wouldn’t do this, especially not with anything that could be traced back to my real name and stuff, but then this happened, so.

I do cat rescue. I’ve done it since the beginning of the pandemic, everything from trapping to fostering to adopting them out. A few months ago, I trapped this litter of three week old kittens and their feral mom. We got the babies weaned, got mom fixed, and focused on getting the babies socialized, fixed, and adopted out.

There were three kittens in the litter, Juliet, Francois, and May. May was the sweetest, and also the most docile of them. When we introduced two new similarly aged friends, May was the first one to accept them. She’d sit with me when I was sick and snuggle with my mom when her arthritis flared, and she tried to comfort my dog Amy when she began to become paralyzed.

Juliet and Francois grew big, and quickly. May was always rather small, and the vet always said she was just the runt, and since her mom was small we shouldn’t worry. When we were finally able to get her fixed she was slow to wake from anesthesia, but the vet said some cats just metabolize it weird.

We got her adopted out to an amazing couple. Love those guys, they’re so dedicated to their cats’ well-being it frankly restores my faith in humanity.

A few days ago, May experienced some severe disorientation and uncharacteristic aggression, so they rushed her to the emergency vet where she was diagnosed with a congenital liver shunt. Her blood is bypassing the liver, meaning it’s not getting filtered and toxins are building up in her body. The surgery to fix this is expensive even without the cost of the imaging needed, or the medications she’ll be on during recovery. We’re working on an application to this organization that’ll absorb most of the cost, but we’re not counting on it.

Is there anyone in the pheonix arizona area who can take a 1-2 week old kitten or knows someone who can?

My friends found a baby kitten. They cannot keep it for long due to allergies and money. We’re having trouble finding a rescue place that’ll take it so I’m sharing this here as a Hail Mary.

Chonks is a sweet 10 month old foster kitten who came down with a sudden urinary blockage yesterday evening.

He was rushed to the vet and required an emergency procedure to save his life, but he still needs 3-5 days of further hospitalization at a second veterinary facility to recover.

The bill so far is over $1350, and is estimated to be at least $1800 before this is over. We’re just a tiny independent rescue run by two disabled people, so anything you can donate would really help and be so, so appreciated.

Hi guys! I normally am not a person that asks for help, but it's not for me, it's for Grimm's siblings!

I managed to catch all of Grimm's surviving littermates, plus the one slightly older kitten, all girls except one little gray tom. They were orphaned soon after I took Grimm home, and they've been struggling since then. One of the kittens has already starved to death, and I'm desperately trying to avert that end for these little babies! They are so skinny you can feel their whole ribcage and spinal column.

They've been eating for a week in this picture, I've tried to deworm them with over the counter medication, but they really could use vet care and I cannot afford it since I'm currently unemployed. I'm struggling to keep them fed now, and in a few short months, they will need fixed if they make it that far. They are already 3 months old by my estimation.

In Baltimore City, MD: (4) chunky, vocal 3-week-old kittens are looking for rescue ASAP! - BARCS, Baltimore MD

Tofu 1-4- 3 weeks, unaltered, 1M/3F

The four adorable, chunky, wiggly 'Tofu' kittens were found without a mom in someone's backyard. We're glad they were found when they were, as temperatures were dropping and they also desperately needed medical attention.

Upon examination, our vets noted that all of the kittens had conjunctivitis and upper respiratory infections, so have been started on antibiotics. At this time, all of the kittens are mobile, vocal, and actively trying to suckle/eat.

The shelter is no place for such young and sick kittens to stay, so we are seeking immediate rescue placement for them.

Got scratched and bitten, but it was totally worth it to free this little face from a car today!

(I came home covered in soot and car grease all over my arms and face since they were hiding UNDERNEATH the hood of a neighbor’s car behind the ENGINE and my poor husband is like “What did you get into now?” 🤔)

Impromptu kitten rescue was a success!

My neighbor called me to say there was a person from a rescue hunting for kittens and ask if they could search on my property. Of course my answer was yes and offered to help in any way I could.

We did end up finding the kittens, there were three of them. They seemed pretty lethargic to me so I was very happy to hear they'd be reunited with mom until they are ready for adoption. Gave them my number and told them to feel free to reach out to me with any future rescue needs as I'm more than happy to help. Also asked for updates on the kittens as they come up.

Kittens were one smokey grey, one mostly grey with some tortoise, and one black.

I have no business adding a kitten to my life right now. But part of me wanted to offer to take the black one when they're ready for a home.

My first personal cat was a tuxedo that I loved more than words could convey. And I have an especially soft spot for black cats as it is. But I responsibly held my tongue.

Anyway I am so happy we found the kittens because Mom was trapped a few days ago and they've been looking for them since.

How’s your day been? This how mine went and I was very much not expecting it. Dunno if you all remember the Pride, but momma cat had another litter and one of my neighbors found them this morning so I went to go get them. I know it’s not ideal to separate them from mom, especially when they’re this young (2-3 weeks), but it’s pretty cold out and I didn’t want to risk her moving them and me never finding them again.

Anywhoodle, here’s Jason (lighter orange), Michael (darker orange), Nell (torbie), and Herbert (all black). They’re named after characters from spooky movies because they were found/born in October :3

Rescue Bengal Kitten update (warning for discussions of possible animal death)

I'm feeling very much like the guy who pulled over on the side of the road to rescue one kitten standing there and ended up rescuing fifteen.

We have been forced to accept that Leeli and Maraly are pregnant. Which is. upsetting, because I really don't think they're more than six months old. Like, I need to stress that as much as I want teeny tiny newborn babies to raise again I didn't want the KITTENS I rescued to be pregnant. But, unfortunately, my mom and I agree that they definitely are. Current likely theory is that when they went into heat at around 4 months (which is APPARENTLY the earliest cats can get pregnant) their former owners couldn't deal with the yowling (if you have never heard a cat in heat count yourself blessed) and instead of getting them spayed they threw them out on the streets. And the girls subsequently got pregnant.

I also have to stress that we don't know if their kittens will be born alive or survive after they're born. Maraly and Leeli (especially Leeli) were STARVING when I found them, and depending on how long they've been pregnant the unborn kittens might not have had enough nutrients to survive....

BUT if I hadn't gone and saved these kittens Maraly and Leeli would have died after they had kittens AND their kittens would have died. Guaranteed. So at least now the little girls should make it through okay and hopefully some of the kittens make it. I am already fully dedicated to doing EVERYTHING in my power to keep as many kittens alive as possible.

Uh, however this also means we'll have to care for an unknown amount of kittens soon which we weren't planning for. We've never really had a surplus of money but goshdarnit if I have to use 98% of my paycheck (the other 2% is for gas) for the whole year to pay for their food, litter and spaying and neutering I WILL do it. They don't call me a crazy cat lady for nothing.

Anyway, sorry for a more serious post about my new babies, but we could really use some prayers here. My mom especially is having a hard time wrapping her head around it. Part of me wants to be excited but I'm also sad that Maraly and Leeli don't get to be KITTENS like they should. ... but this does mean I might get to raise some kittens from newborns and my GOSH have I missed teeny tiny babies ;-;
