what if i was closer to the age group one year above mine and you were a year younger than me and we still became friends. what if my dad has known you since you were ten years old which means ive known you since you were ten and we basically watched each other grow up through flashes of time. what if the timing was never right for us and you played for tps and i did too but then i went to kuopio to play for kalpa instead. what if i won a gold medal at world juniors and you won a gold medal at juniors but we never won one together. what if you were a penguins fan and i was a flyers fan and we still made it work anyways. what if every summer we were always at the same fundraising events but were never on the same teams. what if my gm wasnt keen on trading me but he did in the end and asked me where i wanted to be most after this team and i said colorado and colorado it was. what if my dad loved you enough that he brought you chocolate all the way from our home country. what if we won the stanley cup together and i yelled for you and you hugged me and lifted me off the ice and my arms couldn't wrap around you all the way. what if during the cup celebration you said you were too drunk to speak english so you would only talk to me from that point on and what if you kept your word about it. what if we went back to finland together. what if we finally, finally won something. together.

Oh yes it is! Scott Hartnell. 

He was road trip roommates with Kimmo Timonen when they played on Nashville Predators in the 2000′s, and he borrowed Kimmo’s laptop in the hotel room to check out his bank account. He had more money than he expected and he happened to say it out loud, and Kimmo - who owned a share of KalPa, the team of his home town Kuopio where he had started his hockey career - persuaded him to invest in the team right there and then. And Hartnell did.

Sami Kapanen is the better Kapanen

I don’t actually have opinion about whether Sami is better hockey player than Kasperi. Like, I haven’t followed their careers that much, I just know Sami was playing in the NHL when their kids were little and that he was playing in canes and then they moved to Kuopio at some point and so on. And I know Kasperi was playing the Finnish liiga in Kalpa before NHL. So that’s what I know about their playing careers. 

As an ice hockey player Kasperi has some potential and I think he has not showed that yet. I don’t know if it’s because he hasn’t just been in the right team with the right kind of play tactic or if it’s because he’s not actually that interested to use his full potential as a player and plays hockey just because his dad and grandad played – I do not know that. But imo they should trade Kasperi from the leafs to somewhere where he could reach his full potential as a player – if he wants to do that. 

And yeah they’ve both had their headlines at the media. And they both have some kind of reputation (and it has not always been so good).

As a closure I want to say that actually the best Kapanen might be Sami’s dad and Kasperi’s grandad Hannu. Like I don’t know him either but he seems like a nice guy – takes care of Kasperi’s dog.

MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced today that the team has agreed to terms on a two-year, entry-level contract (2019-20 and 2020-21) with defenseman Otto Leskinen.

The 5'11'' and 187 lbs defenseman led his team's defensemen in goals (8), assists (23) and points (31) in 57 games with the Finnish Liiga's KalPa Kuopio in 2018-19. Leskinen, 22, tied for second on the team in assists and fourth in points. He also served 34 penalty minutes.

Leskinen played 178 career games with Kuopio since making his professional debut in 2015-16. The Pieksämäki, Finland native has recorded totals of 55 points (11 goals, 44 assists) and 66 penalty minutes. He added two points (1-1-2) in 20 career playoff contests.

An undrafted free agent, Leskinen participated in the latest Canadiens' development camp in June 2018.
