“...I wish... I could see you.” “You could always see me.” 💚 • This Kalikori was hand made by me in 2018 out of craft foam, cut to a scaled pattern, layered, dremeled, primed, and hand painted with custom mixed @liquitexofficial acrylics. It has a wooden core and base. The hanging pieces are strung with a thick paracording and are weighed down with carriage bolts on the end or imbedded washers to give them swing. I also had the honor of @vanessamarshall1138 signing my kalikori at @starwarscelebration in Chicago this year! For a special #SyndullaSunday here are some of the many breathtaking photos by @aleestudios of my Hera Syndulla and Kanan Jarrus from @starwarscelebration. I’ll be sharing more over the next week or so. • This shoot means a lot to me. Both because of this beautiful and powerful Star Wars story I fell in love with but also because my husband joined me as Kanan and he reminds me a lot of and has the same temperament as him. Hera is the most transformative costume for me and it’s easy to play the part when I’m dressed as her. It’s almost a feeling of proud responsibility. Hera and Kanan’s emotional connection and love for each other was deep and strong and it’s something I relate to in so many ways. They built their own family from fellow lost and broken souls and gave hope to them and others they encountered. It’s also why their story is so heartbreaking. • Hera and Kanan costumes are both made by me. I want to do a photo dump of my day yesterday because it was AMAZING. I don’t think I’ve ever had this much fun at a convention. It’s a mix of it all being everything and all things Star Wars as well as seeing friends (who I’ve only known online) in person and hitting it off right away. It’s like I’ve known them for years and it’s an incredible feeling of belonging and community. I was utterly exhausted last night, and my feet and head were sore from wearing Hera for 10 hours, but it was seriously the best. Day. Ever. Doesn’t my husband make a great Kanan Jarrus?
