Amazon And Kodansha Team Up To Release MF Ghost In English

  Not long after the announcement of an MF Ghost anime adaptation slated for 2023, Kodansha and Amazon have confirmed to Anime News Network that both companies will tie up to release the first ten volumes of the manga by Shuichi Shigeno in English on Tuesday, January 11th.

  MF Ghost is considered the sequel to the Initial D manga by featuring key characters in a Japan where self-driving cars powered by sustainable energy are commonplace in the 2020s and the nation draws global attention by featuring a sanctioned racing series called MFG that races on public roads with cars powered by conventional combustion engines. The story focuses on Kanata Livington, a Japanese driver that graduates at the top of his class from an English driving school and returns to Japan to compete in the series.   The author of Intiial D has roared back onto the track with another hit! In a near future where cars have mostly switched over to sustainable power, combustion engine racing is a rarity. The MFG is just a race, and Kanata Livington has come to try his luck. But that's not all he's come to Japan to do...he's searching for his father, too. Can even the ambitious Kanata accomplish all he's set out to do?  

The volumes will be made available via Amazon's Kindle Unlimited and Comixology subscription services, as well as being made available for individual purchase at $10.99 per volume.

L’anime andrà in onda sulle tv giapponesi nel 2023.

In vista dell’imminente uscita in Giappone del 13° volumetto del manga, è stata annunciata la produzione di una serie animata basata su “MF Ghost”, il sequel di “Initial D”, il celebre action drama fatto di auto sportive e gare al fulmicotone, firmato Shuuichi Shigeno.

La notizia ci arriva, però, in largo anticipo, visto che l’anime non debutterà sulle tv giapponesi prima del 2023.

La serie si svolge nel 2020, 15 anni dopo gli eventi di Initial D. Le auto elettriche e a guida autonoma sono ormai onnipresenti in Giappone. La storia segue Kanata Livington, un giovane pilota che torna in Giappone dall’Inghilterra dopo aver seguito gli insegnamenti di Takumi Fujiwara ed essersi laureato, con il massimo dei voti, presso la prestigiosa Royal Donington Park Racing School. 

Per ritrovare il padre scomparso, partecipa alla MFG, una gara automobilistica a circuito chiuso su strade pubbliche, con auto sportive alimentate da motori a combustione interna.

Kodansha ha pubblicato il prequel “Initial D” fra il 1995 e il 2013, raccogliendone i vari capitoli in 48 volumetti. 

Il manga ha ispirato una serie televisiva di cinque stagioni, inframezzate da un lungometraggio e diversi OVA. Inoltre, sono stati prodotti anche un film live action, e una trilogia di film d’animazione, l’ultimo dei quali è uscito nel febbraio del 2016.

Initial D Successor MF Ghost Anime Airs in 2023

    It is officially revealed today that a TV anime adaptation of MF Ghost, the sequel to Shuichi Shigeno's street racing-themed Initial D manga series, is now in the works for a premiere in 2023. The anime's official website and Twitter account have also opened with a teaser visual and a teaser PV. Each of the cars that appear in the PV - TOYOTA 86, Lamborghini Huracan, and Ferrari 488GTB - uses the real sound their engine.

    The manga has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine since September 2017, and so far released 12 tankobon volumes in Japan, printing more than three million copies. Its story is set 15 years after Initial D, where internal combustion engine vehicles such as gasoline engines have been discontinued and electric and fuel cell vehicles have become the norm.

  The protagonist is a 19-year-old Japanese-British Kanata Livington, who was trained by Takumi Fujiwara, the protagonist of Initial D, at Royal Donington Park Racing School (RDRS), a prestigious British racing school. To find his missing father, he travels to Japan to take part in MFG, a closed-course car race on public roads, using sports cars powered by internal combustion engines. The characters in Initial D also appear as they have aged, or their names and biographies are mentioned in the story.
