What do you think of Jaehee? I like having her as a friend, however in Zen's route she acts a little annoying. I love your character analysis, so I'd like to hear your opinion on Jaehee. She is my favorite character, but I have to admit that she did go overboard in the Zen route (She doesn't do the same in other routes, e.g.: She didn't care much if MC was with Seven or Yoonsung, but she would go crazy when MC showed the slightest interest in Zen)

I love Jaehee Kang. Did you know I love Jaehee Kang and will fight any slander I see on her behalf? Because, she really does get a lot of bashing from people who misunderstand her approach in Zen Route, and I hate to see that. Zen is someone who chases after his dreams in life no matter how fearful he might be. He ran away from home when they told him he could never make it to the stage.

He refused to let a single person tell him he couldn't follow his heart, and that, unfortunately, includes his family. Even now as a grown-up who doesn't need his parents' support or guidance in his life as far as he's concerned, he still wants it. Zen misses his family and his brother with everything he has. He prays that they'll support him someday. It actually is the main reason why he hasn't proposed to the MC by the time of the Valentine's DLC.

He wants his family's support not only for his career but for your relationship, too. But, in spite of that, Zen's still living the way he wants to live even if he's a dreamer who wants to have more than what he's fought to have.

And I think it's important for you to understand Zen's character to be able to understand Jaehee's character! I'm not saying you have to like Zen or anything, but I think you have to understand the core of who he is as a person so you understand why Jaehee not only admires his stage presence but who he is as a person. Zen is her role model, he's someone who fights for what he wants when he wants it even if there is a chance he'll struggle. He isn't afraid of what he'll have to do to get there.

Whereas, Jaehee on the other hand is someone who has spent the better half of her life trying not to be a "burden." After she lost both of her parents and had to move in with her aunt and uncle, she was put in a position where she had to grow up fast. Her aunt and uncle were there for her and gave her a place to stay, but they didn't love her like she needed to be loved. They just gave her the bare minimum and let her exist without the fear of losing a roof over her head. She knew her aunt and uncle weren't fond of her parents, nor the fact that they felt obligated to take care of her.

She made herself small. She fought to prove she wasn't a nuisance or a burden by getting good grades, practicing self-defense so as not to be in a situation where she would need help, and more.

She was a model student who knew how to please the adults in her life. She didn't stop to enjoy herself as she grew up. She simply did what was assumed of her and followed the expected life to the letter. Get good grades, get into a nice college, and earn a respectable job with a good salary as to never bother the family again. She'll be happy if she follows these things to the letter someday. She'll be happy with her life because that's what she's "SUPPOSED" to do.

There's no point in dreaming for a happy tomorrow. You have to make it for yourself through blood, sweat, and tears. Dreams... she's not the person who's meant for those. She lost that chance when her parents died. If they had survived, maybe she would view the world differently by a long shot... but they didn't. They didn't survive the accident. She lost them and she had to grow up overnight. No time for dreams, only the reality of this world.

But, in trying to be self-sufficient and small, she forced herself to let go of any hope that she may one day discover her dream and follow it. This is why her route is all about learning how to accept the fact that she's allowed to dream! No, it's not even just that she's allowed to be a dreamer, it's that she's allowed to follow her dream! Working for the Jumin Han means she's made it in life as far as anyone from the outside is concerned, but that's not the life Jaehee wants to live! That's not what she wants in the slightest! It's the life she thinks she has to live!

What Jaehee's doing in Zen's Route is kind of like projection. She's pushing so hard for someone not to "ruin" Zen's career because if he can't make it, what hope is there for her to ever make it? He's the one who can do anything in her mind and to see him lose it all because of a relationship that might not be healthy for him hurts. Sure, does that excuse how curt she can be with Zen's MC at first? No! It doesn't. She didn't have to be as forthcoming, but look at it from her angle if you'll be so kind.

A stranger appears in your dead friend's apartment and was lured there by a hacker who seemingly has malicious intent. You can't be certain if this stranger knows the hacker even if their background is clean. You can't be sure who this person is or what they want to do! Even if Jihyun vets the stranger and Seven reassures you, you're not stupid. You know better than to lower your guard. This isn't safe yet. It's not affirmed or assured.

But, even though you try as hard as you can not to judge someone based on preconceived notions... you can't help but to be realistic. Who answers a strange message? Who enters an apartment without a second thought? Either you are with the hacker or you are naive to your surroundings to such a degree it's dangerous not only to you but to anyone who knows you.

You could destroy Zen's heart and his career in a heartbeat... and if she sees him lose his dream, she might as well never have a dream herself. That's how it feels to her in that moment. She's truly tried to convince herself that she can be happy with "settling" for what she's been taught is a "happy life". She thinks she should settle because it won't ever be possible for her to do what Zen's done.

This strange person is flirting with Zen and he doesn't seem to realize they could have malicious intent. Even if they're not working with the hacker, how could you get close to someone you don't even know in such a short amount of time? It doesn't make sense in the slightest. She's guarded for a reason, after all. She's always kept to herself to be sure she wouldn't have trouble. Less bonds means you're less likely to face heartache later... and her heart is very much still grieving the last time she let herself get close to someone only to lose them not long after.

She knows Zen is a good judge of character, but she doesn't want him to get hurt by someone who may not be as understanding as he is... and given the outcomes of the bad endings, I can't entirely fault her for being wary of the MC. Zen's MC does have the possibility of a very toxic, unhealthy relationship if you prompt the wrong choices with him. But, in regards to the Good Ending, her concerns turn out to be for naught because the player does love Zen and wants to be with him.

It may not be her business what Zen does, but it makes sense why she's worried for him.

Not only as a friend but as an admirer of him. I get it, though, you feel like she's being pushy or controlling of her idol when she warns you not to bug him. But, if you only think of her as a controlling fan, you're not understanding Jaehee Kang. You're making an assumption about her just as she made one about you. The only way to make that better is to confront it and talk things through.

She's not jealous that Zen likes the player romantically, either.

She doesn't like Zen like that.

She admires him as a person and a friend, which is why his role in her route is important, too. I know it sucks to feel like we're shoved to the back burner in her route compared to Zen, but the reason why Zen is the one pushing her to follow her dream just as much as you are is all because of their friendship. Zen didn't realize the real reason she felt admiration for him until they talked about it, and that's why he fought to help her follow that passion for coffee. We're giving her support in every way we can as her MC, but she needs that push from Zen, too.

Because Zen is everything she wants to be and she hasn't realized that she can be the person she wants to be. She doesn't just have to look at Zen for hope.

Zen wants her to find herself just as much as she wants that for him. He doesn't want her to live her passion through him. He wants her to find that passion in herself. He loves having her as his fan, but she is deserving of the same support. He's her fan, too. He wants her to be able to take that leap of faith. He didn't have support when he left his home, but by God, his friend Jaehee will have his support.

She shouldn't have to force herself to be something she's not. That's no way to live. She deserves to be happy in her own way. That's why Zen says, "It's not as scary to follow your heart when you have people behind you." You, Zen, and Saeyoung are heavily the ones pushing to see Jaehee reach that freedom to dream.

Every action you make for her sake matters. Jaehee's route is about her realizing her self-worth and actualizing her dreams. This is also why it makes sense that it takes more time for her to realize she likes you romantically. She needs some space to reflect on the box she put herself in! Her Valentine's DLC literally has her come out of a closet. It is all connected for a reason. She views you as her very dear friend at first and then... slowly and all at once, it clicks.

You're not just her friend, you're not just her business partner, you... you are the person she's in love with. She's able to welcome love with open arms because she realized her dreams are worth fighting for no matter how scary they may seem and you're her dream, too. She can have all her dreams.

She doesn't have to pick just one and settle for less. She can have all her dreams and I think that's beautiful.

Actually, now that I think about it, Jaehee probably has no idea that she can be perceived as 'pretty' or 'beautiful' by someone. She has stated multiple times that she does not care much for her looks when it comes to appearing 'pretty', she has given up on dating altogether (and while it was definitely mostly due to how busy she is, I can't help but think that, on some level, it left her feeling at least somewhat 'unattractive'), and she is very visibly stumped whenever Zen or you actually compliment her on anything besides her wits and abilities. I feel like she has come to terms with being the stereotypical 'smart reliable friend' that is there to give advice, but never actually does or gets anything for herself.

It's only when you come into her life and start encouraging her to actually seek out her own happiness, no matter how small or silly it is, does she start expressing her desires to change something in her appearance. That she'd like to grow out her hair. That she doesn't actually need glasses. That there are some clothes she finds cute or comfy.

Can't help but think of her slowly finding genuine fulfillment through experimenting with her appearance. Her looking at herself in the mirror one day, after a nice and lovely shopping date with you, and, for the first time in a while, finding herself thinking that she looks pretty. Trying out new makeup looks, cute dresses, silly matching sweaters with you that will leave her giggling whenever she puts them on. And, as her hair grows longer, fiddling with all kinds of hairstyles, from quick and easy to elaborate and fancy. It's all so new, but so liberating.

I love how you can kind of see that progression in her through the CG's. Starting with her strictly professional looks and gradually morphing into more comfy and cutesy clothes we sometimes get to see on her.

Oh how I wish we could see how long-haired Jaehee dresses casually...
