A menina manipulava os pais e alunos da escola onde estudavam juntas, tanto que ninguém permanecia por muito tempo junto a ela, fizeram “brincadeiras” como colocar o pé para ela cair, puxar a cadeira na hora que ia sentar, etc. as coisas só aliviaram um pouco quando foram para a faculdade, já que escolheram cursos diferentes. Taeyeon decidiu ir para uma faculdade mais longe da casa e por isso ficava no dormitório, estudou pericia criminal e evitava ao máximo ter que encontrar os relativos. Por seu bom desempenho acadêmico, ela ganhou uma bolsa de estudos e, assim, não precisava se preocupar com o dinheiro da mensalidade; ela estudava bastante, tirava notas boas e tinha um trabalho de meio período.

Pouco tempo após se formar, recebeu a notícia de que a irmã postiça tinha morrido atropelada, pensou que podia ser o carma, mas preferia não pensar na possibilidade de ser culpada por aquele agouro, mesmo assim, se sentia mal por não sentir tristeza com aquilo. Ela foi ao enterro, mas os "pais" nem sequer deram atenção para ela, e ela ainda escutou eles falando: “Por que nossa menina e não ela? Preferia que ela tivesse morrido no lugar da nossa filha”.
