Jin was obtainable as a 5⭐ unit in BBDW.
A NOL Uniform costume was released for his unit during the ending campaign of the game.  A costume based on his appearance in Spiral Shift was created, but never released.
During BBDW’s run, costumes were typically released during special events, for characters integral to the event’s story.
I’d assume the Spiral Shift costume had been saved for an eventual Spiral Shift event.  Events had been typically releasing with a new 5⭐ and 4⭐ character; had we gotten that event, I imagine we would have seen 5⭐ Grimwood and 4⭐ Karenjina.
Though I wonder what the NOL uniform would have been for.  It seems to be the same uniform we see him in during one of the CGs in Central Fiction.  Kagura got a similar uniform during his launch, obtainable as a reward for rolling multiples of him.  I wonder if that’s how we would have gotten that costume, or if there would have been another event with him as a focus.

I wonder how many dudebro basement dwellers I could make unreasonably mad by pointing out that the colorism in blazblue, especially when it comes to how dark skinned women are portrayed is really bad and a really big problem out of many with the series. Like. I know this isn’t just a problem with Mori and that Japan as a whole is infamous for being colorist, but most of the dark skinned women in blazblue either fall into the angry brown girl stereotype (either with intent or by accident [example: Bullet]), exist to be sexualized and then immediately tortured (example: Karenjina Parsett) or don’t get nearly as much development as their light skinned counterparts (example: Taokaka) I can’t think of a single dark skinned girl in blazblue that gets nearly as much development as characters like Noel or Rachel and I get that because blazblue became linear over time the narrative can’t focus on every single character at a time like it used to but that doesn’t exactly excuse the colorism and blatant fetishim of dark skinned women that Toshimichi Mori exhibits throughout his works.

Reminder that an unofficial translation of Spiral Shift was completed some time around the beginning of this year!
You can hear more about it here, or read the novel here via Google Drive.

I will, forever and always, be so, so pissed off that I read Spiral Shift just in time for BBDW to be cancelled, taking with it any chance that I could ever use Karenjina or Grimwood in battle.  Or hell!  See an official design for Owl!  OR HONOKA!  I mean I get that the whole point with Honoka seems to be that his looks are some kind of illusion, where he looks normal upfront but in hindsight you can’t really remember what he looked like exactly, and you can’t really focus too hard on his appearance- but like.  There it was.  Our chance for a design.
I figure the banner would have been Grimwood and Karenjina, but....  still...  BBDW was such an opportunity to explore/expand on so much of the world and characters that I don’t see us getting again.  Episodic mobile games are drowning in faults of their own, but their narrative flexibility is incredible.
