Howdy, the long awaited afterword is here. I say as if my volume didn't arrive literally 2 hrs ago. Anyways, thanks for working with me.

Also I included the volume comments this time XP and I translated the back promotional page too just bc I haven't seen anyone else post it yet?? But I don't pay super close attention to the teasers usually so don't come for me if it's just the same text as the last few.

"Afterword

Wow, this is it, the climax! Writing it gets as lonely as it is fun, and it's as fun as it gets lonely, among other things! To everyone who's followed along this long, I'm truly grateful.

From here on out, I'm going to have a new editor. Owari no Seraph has thus far been blessed with nothing but the best and brightest in editors, all full of motivation. From Hosono-san (the sharpest blade in Shueisha) to Kosuge-san (the industry's top Nice Guy) to Kasai-san (who played it straight but turned out to be a total weirdo). And now, exploding onto the scene to take the baton from those three absolute characters, and his name issssss.......Okuyama-saaaaaannnn!!!!!

Now, this new guy in charge is truly amazing, he's got enough motivation to take me aback! He goes, "Kagami-san! We could have the whole world!! Nono, the whole universe!!! From now on just leave it all to meeeeee!!!! There's no doubt we'll do great things together, so just leave it all to me okayyyyyy!!!!" He's been yelling like that since we first met. He brought so much of that heat to the venue we were going to have our first meeting over dinner at and we ended up getting chased out and banned from coming back! It ended up being a whole incident, we really started off with a bang.....is what I'd like to put here, but I'm actually working on this afterword before that aforementioned meeting so I decided to just write my heart. The truth is that we actually haven't met yet! (Say what?)

Everyone, look forward to the next volume, where I tell you all how our introductions went! The one I'm writing now will actually probably pass through my new editor Okuyama-san's hands before we do meet, so I'm kinda scared about how that's gonna go, I'm like shaking (lol). But I'll definitely have a story to tell for next afterword! So on that note, I hope to see you all here again next volume, for those who just wanted to be done reading before it gets deep, I'll say goodbye to you here. I'll see you all next volume!!!!!

So, then, about myself recently. I put to rest some things that have been bothering me as a creator for sooo many years. Yayyyyy!! Wondering how I'm going to live and who I should become. As I'm facing up my works, and also my experiences as a person, as I'm experiencing the lives and deaths of those precious to me, what does it make of me? My characters grow up, am I working hard enough to keep up with them? I suddenly feel like I'm approaching my answers. And wow, what a ride it's been. What a ride being a creator is.

There was a time I was writing so many projects, but I've been rather spending my days studying since encountering those worrisome thoughts. But I've finished my studies and at long last arrived at just being thankful. It took a lot out of me to get here. And having Owari no Seraph publishing monthly, I think it was something that really managed to keep me as a creative grounded through it all. Writing is what I love most of all, I've been able to realize that it's who I am. For that, I am truly grateful to everyone. Yamamoto-san, Furuya-san, every one of my readers, to those in charge here and my editorial staff and everyone else who associates with me and every member of my family, I'm deeply thankful for the one of a kind, precious ties that bring us together in this world.

Which is all to say, I've returned to my extremely prolific writing habits, so I'll be glad if you all read what I've got to say!!!

Huh, I guess that wasn't too heavy afterall. Anyways, everyone, I'll see you next volume! Oh, and the finale of "Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu" is also happening after six long years. If any of you have ever read it, I hope you enjoy that too!

wow, naoto's writing is bad! and its not even bad because "they should have been trans" or whatever tf ppl are saying, its bad because its inconsistent both internally as well with persona's canon lore. like, the whole basis of the persona series is that your shadow is part your true self. even though it says things that you don't want to hear or admit to others, it's still YOU. naoto's shadow 'wants to be a man.' naoto's shadow wants gcs. naoto's shadow is trans.

and that's not to say that you can't write a story or an arc about questioning gender. or a gnc woman. or about what it's like to be a woman in a male-dominated field. or a child that's forced to grow up too quickly because they're surrounded by - and doing the job of - adults. but to do that, then naoto's social link should have actually explored those things? we hear a lot about how it must be tough to be a woman detective. how the adult police officers don't take naoto seriously. but it's never shown; those issues aren't explored in a meaningful way. we know that they happen in the real world, but we don't get to see naoto react to those things; like the yosuke reacts to the junes part-timers, or the way yukiko reacts to the reporters and kasai-san. so that angle falls flat because those problems aren't acknowledged in naoto's arc.

naoto is openly dysphoric. i'm not saying that makes them trans bc dysphoric cis people exist, but they are repeatedly shown being uncomfortable when other characters bring up their height, the pitch of their voice, and their chest. and you can say that them deciding that they're a woman means that they're not comfortable being seen as a man either - that's fine, nonbinary people exist - but the scale of the discomfort is so completely different that it feels ridiculous and almost in bad faith to say they felt as uncomfortable 'as a man' as they did 'as a woman.'

and honestly, im a little tired of seeing stories where women 'dress up' as men to avoid sexism. i know the people writing these have never actually talked to trans men, but that's not how the world works. we don't come out and suddenly become magically accepted by society. you can be out for years and still be routinely misgendered! and in some cases, if you pass, you're expected to uphold and reinforce sexism - fun! /s. but those stories never show that, do they? i get that they're supposed to be escapist fantasies, and not real life, but persona 4 is a game that has relatively grounded themes and characters. many of us are or know a yosuke, a chie, a yukiko, etc. naoto's writing feels out of place because the themes it's trying to explore are either completely ignored or bastardized so badly that they become nonsensical.

it's also incredibly demeaning and egregious that to romance naoto, you basically force-fem them, when the whole point of their 'platonic' social link is that their gender doesn't matter (until at the very end, where they decide they're 'a woman after all'). this is pretty clearly done to assert the heterosexuality of the protagonist, but it's still really gross. are gnc women w lower voices not allowed to date men now? fellas, is it gay to date a woman?

but actually the most uncomfortable part to me is the rhetoric surrounding naoto's transness. i know this game came out more than a decade ago, but it uses the same negative tropes about transmasculine people that are being peddled by t€rfs and transphoßes today. and it's primarily other women (chie and yukiko) enforcing naoto's gender expression to stamp out any ideas of transmasculinity. naoto can't Actually be trans - she's just a confused little girl! she'll grow out of it and realize how stupid she was to throw away her beauty to be an ugly man! she was a girl all along! its straight out of social contagion nonsense, when their arc could have perfectly meshed w the theme of acceptance if they um. maybe accepted that they can be trans, even without needing to 'change their sex'? they can be a man with a 'woman's body'? they can see themselves however they want? (reminded of that post of a 'western' trans person saying they thought the trans man from one piece was a caricature or something, and the replies were just. japanese trans people saying that the way he's presented is empowering for them bc it's impossible to get hrt/gcs in japan, so they prefer narratives that accept their bodies as they are.)

naoto could have been amazing gnc woman, non-binary, or trans man rep, if atlus stuck to it and explored what any of those things meant to naoto as a character. instead, they fumbled the writing so badly that it becomes impossible to tell what they were trying to say. unless you're trans, then one day, you too can become normal!

On the 19th December 1914 seventeen Japanese nurses, two doctors, an interpreter and administrator sailed from Yokohama on the Japanese liner Shunyo-maru bound for San Fransisco. After official visits and engagments were carried out, they traveled on to New York City where they were again subject to engagements and lavish dinners and tours.

They left on the 13th January 1915 on the White Star liner Megantic, heading for Liverpool.

Nine days later, they were received by Mr Kishi of the Japanese Embassy and Surgeon-General Sir Benjamin Franklin from the Red Cross Headquarters.

From Liverpool, they travelled to London for more meetings with dignitaries and special events that had been prepared for them. On the 31st January, 43 days after leaving Japan they caught the train to Netley to finally do the work that they had come all this way to do.

Higurashi Month 2023, Day 7: Enthusiasm

The rumbling car vrrrrrrmed to a long, slow stop. Barely had the tires stopped spinning, though, before a series of brightly-colored figures jumped out, resplendent in their swishing capes and eyewatering colors, dragging a number of containers behind them.

"Alright!" Mion Sonozaki shouted, sweeping her arm out as the impromptu cloak of her beach towel whooshed dramatically. It was a deep crimson, matching her Chinese style two-piece swimsuit. A pair of goggles perched like aviator's lenses on her forehead. "Hinamizawa Club, ho!"

"YEAH!" her coterie all shouted, punching the air. Keiichi, Shion, Rena, Satoshi, Satoko, Rika, and Hanyuu were all similarly attired, although Rena had her fluffy white towel wrapped around her waist like an impromptu skirt.

Mion, never one to be outdone, twirled before striking another dramatic pose and thrusting her finger out, aiming for the tranquil waters spreading to the edge of the horizon.

"We're gonna conquer this bea-yotch!" she shouted, her outflung arm pointing rock-steady towards the sandy beach. "No club in the history of Japan is gonna rock a beach as hard as we're gonna rock this one today!"

"WHOO!" the other club members cheered.

The driver's window of the car behind them rolled down, and Kasai leaned out slightly.

"I will be back around sunset, Mion-san." he told her, before leaning back in and rolling up the window. The car drove off, and Mion straightened up, rubbing her hands together and turning back to her club.

"Alright, safety check!" she said. "Kei-chan, umbrellas?"

"Check!" he said, and would have saluted if not for the two huge beach umbrellas he was cradling like a rifle against his shoulder.

"Shion, snacks and goodies?"

"Check!" her sister chimed, kicking one foot up onto the large plastic cooler full of frozen meats, condiments, and other food.

"Rena, water toys?"

"Check, check, and check!" Rena giggled, holding up a net bag full of bright plastic and foam shapes.

"Satoshi-kun, lotion and aloe vera?"

"Ch-check!" he stammered, exhibiting his own net bag full of plastic bottles.

"Satoko-chan, watermelon?"

"Heh." Satoko grinned toothily, baring her sole sharp fang, and hefted the round fruit in her arms. "Check, and ready for suikawari!"

"Rika-chan, bokken and blindfold?"

"Check, and ready for smashing!" Rika chirped, holding up her wooden sword and strip of cloth proudly.

"Hanyuu-chan, sunglasses?"

"I-I've got one for everyone!" Hanyuu cried, displaying the old fishing-tackle box that had been emptied out for use as a carrier.

"Alright!" Mion laughed, and swung around to point at the beach. "Let's partyyyyyy!"

El Desperado and Hiromu singles match guide!

I think it can be difficult to catch up on old NJPW feuds, so I put together a match guide for El Desperado and Hiromu's singles matches, and the relevant promo and backstage commentary videos. I've linked both match commentary languages when available.

This doesn't include their tag feud, just singles matches! And I've tried to keep my own commentary to a minimum for the sake of brevity.

You'll need a NJPWWorld account for most of the match links, but it's relatively inexpensive (around $7 USD per month currently) and worth it if you want to watch all the matches in their feud. (Be aware that NJPWWorld memberships renew on the first of the month, Japan-time, so it's best to subscribe on the first of the month.)

I've also linked the pre-match comments if there are any, and the post-match comments, both on youtube.

Shout-out to El Desperado for forgetting to pack his ring gear for today's show, having to wear very short black pants and a little skirt he made out of t-shirts to the ring instead, and getting "Despe-san" and "short tights" trending on twitter in Japan as a result.

My #1 post of 2022

It's BOSJ season again, which means I'm thinking about the history Hiromu and Desperado's feud.

Every year Hiromu makes a picture book with information about each wrestler in the tournament. He usually alters his entries for Despy during the course of the tournament.

2018

Hiromu's entry for Desperado started out blank, because he was still trying to figure Desperado out. Before their match, he added:

お前が誰か知ってる

大嫌い

I know who you are, and I hate you

2019

El Desperado missed the 2019 tournament due to injury. Hiromu added him to the book for that year anyway, on the last page - a photo of Desperado with his jaw broken, covered in blood, that glitches out as he turns the page.
