Y/n was sitting in her carriage for 5 minutes, not having the courage to open the door. She was outside the Viscount and Viscountess Bridgerton mansion, in other words her sister and her brother-in-law. Her hands trembled in her lap as she took a deep breath to try to calm her anxiety and her irregular heartbeat.
Her mother Mary had to travel to India and decided to not let her youngest go with her. As Y/n was still too young to consider it safe to keep her at home alone, even with maids, Mary asked Anthony and Kate to welcome her into their home.
Ever since Mary's older daughter found a husband and went to live a new life, Y/n felt that her relationship with her mother got worse.
The house was quieter, both of them no longer had the usual company of the other sisters. It made Y/n realize how she couldn’t hold a conversation with Mary, at least not like Kate and Edwina. It also didn't help that Y/n was extremely similar to their father, who had already died. It seemed like Mary was grieving again for her late lover, and Y/n was the cause of it.
So, like a snowball effect, Y/n couldn't help but think that Kate and Anthony were just taking her in out of obligation, since they were family, but that she was actually considered a burden for them.
"Would you like for me to open the door, Miss?" the maid who accompanied her asked with a gentle smile.
"There is no need for that, Anne. Thank you." she replied, snapping out of her thoughts.
With a last deep breath, Y/n opened the door just as Anthony and Kate were leaving the house. As soon as she saw them, Y/n bowed slightly. When she lifted her head again she found the two of them with a smile directed at her. But even so, she had doubts, after all, in this society, everyone had learned to master the fake polite smile. Kate hurried to her, pulling her into a tight hug.
"Y/n! It's so nice to have you here. The house can get so quiet when the Viscount is working. It'll be great to have our conversations like we had before." Kate whispered in her ear, Y/n only responding with a small smile.
Anthony approached the younger Sharma to greet her, Y/n bowing again. "Lord Bridgerton, thank you for your hospitality. It was very kind of you."
"By all means, Miss Y/n, you are family. Now let's come inside, Phillip can bring your belongings to your room." Anthony said, linking his arm with his wife and starting to head towards the room where the maids were setting the table for the tea.
Y/n followed behind the couple, her steps cautious. She looked at the huge mansion and sighed, her fears continuously running through her mind. This was going to be a very long month.
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
It was still quite early, the sun's rays barely illuminating the mansion. However, Y/n was already awake and ready for the day. She went down to the kitchen, wanting to help the cooks and maids. It was the least she could do, since now they were cooking for one more person and the day before they had brought her a rather late meal since she didn't eat all of dinner.
The maids were surprised to see the youngest Sharma in the kitchen, tying an apron around her waist. However, with a lot of resistance on Y/n's part, they let the girl help. Y/n had a lot of fun, the maids had a good relationship with each other, throwing in some jokes from time to time that made her laugh.
Y/n was placing the last dish on the table. She had to admit that everything looked great. The food varied from fruit to various cakes and breads. Just in time, Anthony entered the kitchen, stopping in surprise when he saw Y/n there.
"Miss Sharma, I wasn't expecting you to be awake already. It's quite early."
"I'm a morning person, Lord Bridgerton." Y/n chuckled, running her hands down her dress nervously. She then pointed to the table, desperate not to remain in an awkward silence. "Breakfast is ready."
"I see that, everything looks great." he sat at the end of the table. Y/n remained standing, looking around, causing Anthony to hesitate before asking, "Aren't you going to sit down to eat too?"
"Oh! I already ate with the maids, thank you. Hm, is my sister awake?"
Anthony clears his throat, looking down. A frown appeared on Y/n's face when she saw the man's cheeks start to turn pink. "Your sister is still sleeping. She was not feeling well last night so she couldn't sleep much."
"Very well..." The girl nodded slowly. "I shall bring her tea when she wakes up. Until then, I was hoping I could go on for a walk in the gardens? Please?"
"Of course, Y/n, you don't have to ask." Anthony nodded, wiping his mouth with a napkin after drinking some orange juice. "Do you want me to ask a maid to go with you and keep you company?"
"No, it's okay, I prefer to go alone."
"No problem. In the afternoon we should go to my mother's house to play pall-mall. It would be lovely if you decided to join us."
"Oh, I'm not sure yet. I wouldn't want to interrupt your family time." Y/n looked away so as not to show the sadness she felt.
She had never even met Anthony's family properly, only meeting them briefly at the couple's wedding. Either way, with all the stories she'd heard from Kate, she doubted she'd be able to fit into the family dynamic. She was afraid that Anthony was only extending the invitation to her out of obligation to now be living with them, after all, she had never been invited even when her two sisters were.
However, with all these thoughts, the girl did not see the frown that appeared on her sister's husband's face. What do you mean she didn't want to interrupt family time when it was part of it?
Although his family never spent much time with Y/n, it was just because since she was younger, they thought she would feel more comfortable with her mother instead of being dragged around with Edwina and Kate to every event. She had lost her father and moved countries, they didn't want to overwhelm her. However, Anthony's siblings really wanted to meet her, especially Francesca and Hyacinth, who wanted to have a new friend.
"Y/n, you are family. My siblings would love to spend more time with you, especially my sisters." Anthony finally said.
"I will think about it." Y/n offered him a small smile out of politeness. "I will be heading to the gardens. Let me know if you need me. Excuse me, Lord Bridgerton."
When Y/n finally left the dining room, Anthony rubbed a hand over his face in frustration. He really needed to talk to his wife about this.
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
Y/n was lying down on the grass, enjoying the sun's rays that warmed her skin, when Kate found her. After Anthony told her about what happened at breakfast, Kate knew there was something wrong with her younger sister.
Anthony's wife lay down beside Y/n, alerting her to her presence. Y/n lifted her head, offering her sister a small smile. "Are you feeling better?"
"Pardon?" Kate frowned, not understanding the question. Her mouth opened in realization as she remembered what Anthony had told her with a light blush. "Oh, yes, I'm fine. Nothing that a few more hours of sleep couldn't solve."
"I'm glad." Y/n closed her eyes again, enjoying the sunny day.
"Are you enjoying your time here? Lord Bridgerton told me that you cooked with the maids today." Kate said after a few moments of silence.
"Yes, they were lovely. I wanted to help."
"If you had a good time then there's no problem. But you know you don't need to get up early to cook for us. I want you to have fun and be comfortable while you're here."
Y/n remained silent. Her hand started messing with the grass, a way to distract herself. "I know." she replied with a small voice.
"Do you?" the elder Sharma raised her eyebrows teasingly.
But Y/n remained silent, a small frown forming on her face as she thought about what Kate said. In turn, Kate felt her heart tighten with guilt. As she looked at her little sister, she remembered when she was a baby and made exactly the same face when she thought. A sigh escaped her lips, missing having Y/n's company all day.
The three Sharma sisters used to spend every waking moment together, strolling around the garden or simply relaxing in silence. But now, with Kate married and Edwina being courted by the prince, they didn't think about how it would affect Y/n.
"Tell me what is really wrong." Kate asked with sad eyes. Y/n sat down, opening her mouth to start speaking, but nothing came out. "Y/n, I'm sorry I haven't spent much time with you. But I love you, and I want you to be comfortable being here with me and Anthony."
"You didn't just let me stay out of obligation?" the younger sister asked shyly, refusing to look into Kate's eyes, who had also sat up and was trying to lift Y/n's chin with her hand.
"No! In fact, I was the one who asked mother to let you stay with me instead of considering you going with her to India. We wanted you here. I miss seeing my little sister every day. It can get lonely when Anthony works, and I love having you here."
"Really? But when you're bored, don't you visit Lord Bridgerton's siblings?"
"Yes, but no one can replace you. And I'm always talking about you to them, from all the stories I've told, I think they like you more than me!" Kate laughed, her smile widening when Y/n also chuckled. "I'm sure they would be delighted for you to go with us to play pall-mall."
"Hmm, I'm not sure. What if they don't like me?"
"Oh!" Anthony's wife gasped as if it was the most ridiculous idea. "That's impossible! With your heart and your kindness, they would be fools to not like you!"
"I really missed you." Y/n admitted, resting her head on Kate's shoulder.
"Me too. And after mother comes back, our house is still open. You can come here whenever you wish."
"Thank you, Kate. I'm glad you found Anthony, you seem very happy."
"I am happy." Kate assured her. "And just because I am married now, nothing changes between us. You are still my priority."
"Thank you. And I believe a game of pall-mall is not the worst thing in the world. I will join you." the younger girl nodded with a smile, gaining confidence from her sister's words.
"Great! Then you'll also get to see Lord Bridgerton be a sore loser when I win."
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
She was already starting to regret her decision when she saw Anthony's family in the garden, already bickering with each other. She and her sisters were competitive, but not at this level.
"Dear siblings, if you could please just listen to me first." Anthony caught their attention with a sarcastic smile. "This is Miss Y/n, Kate's younger sister. She will be joining us today."
"Another Sharma? We are going to lose!" the younger boy, who Y/n assumed was Gregory, said.
Two other girls came to her, introducing themselves as Francesca and Hyacinth, Anthony's younger sisters. As they excitedly talked, Y/n's nerves began to disappear. Kate watched them closely, relaxing when she noticed that her sister was smiling, looking happy to be making friends. Her husband joined her, letting her lean against him and kissing her cheek.
"I told you it was going to be okay."
"Yeah, I know. But I was so sad that she thought we didn't want her here with us. It's my fault." Kate whispered sadly, feeling Anthony put his arm around her waist in comfort.
"It's not your fault, my love. We have to make her feel welcome, but for now, I think she's having fun." Noticing that Kate still wasn't convinced, he added. "What if the three of us went for a horse ride tomorrow? You once told me that Y/n always wanted to ride a horse, but she never got to learn since your father died. What if I taught her?"
"You would do that?" his wife smiled in delight. "Oh, Anthony, thank you. I'm sure she would love that."
"Anything for my wife and her little sister." Anthony smiled, giving her a chaste kiss on the lips. "I love you."
"Are you being this lovely just so I won't be so competitive in the game?" she laughed teasingly. "Forget it! Prepare to lose, my dear husband."
Kate turned her back on him, going to the others so they could start the game. Anthony enjoyed the view of his wife, wondering how he got so lucky. "I love my life."
While they were playing, Eloise told Y/n how women deserved to go to college and not live just for their husbands. Benedict appeared later, declaring that he was going to save her from her sister's obsessions, making Y/n hide a giggle behind her hand. In turn, he and Collin were extremely funny, especially when Anthony made a bad move and Kate beat him.
Y/n also had time to meet Daphne's son, who seemed to like her and demanded with a cry that she pick him up. She didn't complain, the baby was too cute to refuse anything.
She and her two new friends got tired of playing, preferring to sit under the shade with the baby and play a little with him. Meanwhile, they talked about everything and got to know more about each other. They only realized how much time had passed when Lady Violet Bridgerton called them to drink and eat something.
By late afternoon, Y/n was exhausted but happy. Her family was more complete, and she loved being part of its dynamic.

What You Do To Me
Pairing: Anthony Bridgerton x reader x Kate Sharma
Requested by Anonymous
Summary: They can’t resist you...
Smut!
The look on Anthony’s face as you descended the staircase was priceless.  The gown you’d selected for this evening’s ball boasted a near-scandalous neckline, displaying more cleavage than was strictly appropriate.  Your hair was curled and tumbled over a shoulder rather than being pinned up, and your lips were painted scarlet.  In a word, you looked ravishing.  “My darling,” Anthony said, kissing your cheek.  “God, you look incredible.”  “Thank you, Anthony,” you replied, taking his arm.
“Kate is waiting in the carriage.”  You nodded, following him out of the house and to the waiting carriage.  Your other lover was waiting inside, gorgeous in a gown of lavender silk, and her eyes widened when she saw you.  “Y/N, love, you look…”  The Viscountess trailed off, extending a hand to you as you climbed into the carriage. Anthony followed, and a moment later, you were off.
You weren’t sure what led you to dress so seductively this evening: perhaps it was the fact that Anthony had barely looked at you in days, perhaps it was the fact that Kate had been so busy helping her sister in her courtship with the Prince, or perhaps it was simply because you wanted to feel pretty.  Whatever the reason, it was clearly working, if the way your lovers were looking at you was any indication.
Anthony had his hand on your thigh, and his hand was slowly creeping upwards.  “Do you have any idea what you’re doing to me?” he asked, and from the seat across from you, Kate let her foot drag up your leg.  “Anthony?”  “Don’t pretend, my dear.  You know exactly what you’re doing to me.”  He took your hand and guided it to his steadily growing bulge, which made you gasp softly.
He pulled you into a deep, needy kiss, and you were drawn into his embrace, wrapping your arms around his neck.  “Let me fuck you, beautiful,” Anthony said against your lips.  “Let me have that sweet cunt of yours.  Please, love, I won’t make it through the night.”  How on earth could you deny him when he was kissing you so sweetly, when he made you so wet from just a single sentence?
You had barely breathed out a “yes” before Anthony was pushing you to your knees, hiking your skirts over your hips, and unfastening his trousers.  “Lord, look how wet you are already,” he said, stroking his cock to full hardness before, pushing into you  It had been days since he’d fucked you, and you were desperate.  “Yes!” you screamed, not caring if the drivers or footmen heard.  “Anthony, yes!”
Your lover grinned wickedly, setting a fast pace, and Kate knelt on the floor of the carriage, cupping your face in her hands.  “We can’t have you being too loud, can we, love?”  You shook your head, and just when you were about to cry out again, she kissed you, swallowing your moans of desire.  Distantly, you wondered how you’d attend the ball in such a state, but the feeling of Anthony fucking you and Kate kissing you senseless had all rational thoughts leaving your mind.
“Anthony, please, I…”  “Hush,” he chided.  “You’ll get what I give you.  Kate, darling?  Keep our girl quiet.”  A wicked glint appeared in the Viscountess’ eyes.  “With pleasure, My Lord.”  She pulled away from you and resumed her seat, lifting her skirts and baring her cunt to your view.  Kate saw the hungry look in your eyes, and she smiled softly.  “Go ahead, love.”  With her permission, you began licking and sucking at her pussy with abandon.
Only minutes later, you felt your peak approaching, and you moaned in hopes of alerting Anthony.  “It’s alright, my sweet,” he cooed, letting his hand rest on your neck.  “Come for us, Y/N.”  Your cunt squeezed around Anthony’s cock as you came, sending him over the edge, chasing his own pleasure.  Kate succumbed to your ministrations soon after, leaving the three of you a panting, sweaty heap on the carriage floor.
One look at you told Kate there was no feasible way you could attend the ball, and there was no way neither she nor Anthony would go without you.  The Viscount righted your skirts and helped you to sit, Kate pulling you into her arms.  “Where are you going?” you asked, and Anthony squeezed your hand.  “To thank our hosts for the invitation but to regretfully inform them that Kate has developed a rather severe headache on the way.”  He kissed your cheek, then Kate’s.  “I have plans for you two when we get home.”

Part 11
Request: Yes or No
~~~
"It is quite kind of Her Majesty to host such an event at the palace. I mean, not even the Duke of Hastings got such an opportunity!"
"That is because he and his bride wished for a quick and quiet ceremony, Mother." (Y/N) reminded her gently. Lucy hummed absentmindedly, fingertips softly scratching against her sons' arm as she marveled over the decorations. As always, Her Majesty had outdone herself, but nothing less could be expected from a woman like her. She demanded the best of the best in every single thing, no matter how small.
The soft sound of a harp welcomed the Granvilles into the chapel and Henry released an impressed hum. (Y/N) wished he had a clear enough mind to truly take in the beautiful decor, but his mind and heart refused to focus on anything. Anthonys' dreaded wedding day had finally arrived and while (Y/N) had woken up with a good mindset, the minute they had arrived at the palace he had found his stomach in knots. His skin felt warm, abnormally so. Digging his fingers into his palm, (Y/N) cleared his throat and forced a smile for Violet as she approached him.
"Mr. and Mrs. Granville! I'm so glad you could make it." Violet smiled widely, though it didn't reach her eyes. Nerves, perhaps? It was her eldest sons' wedding.
"We wouldn't dream of missing it, Lady Bridgerton," Lucy replied, reaching out to take Violet's hand. Violet placed her other hand over Lucy's and smiled, giving the family a nod before moving on to greet more guests. (Y/N) felt his father pat his back twice and sighed softly, following his parents to a pew. Lucy released him and sat down first, watching her husband sit down beside her before she leaned in to whisper, motioning to the decorations. (Y/N) lingered in the aisle, glancing back toward the entrance before he sat at the end. He swallowed the lump in his throat as more and more guests arrived and took their seats until eventually, everyone was seated and the music began.
(Y/N) fidgeted with his fingers, hearing the soft sound of shoes clicking against the floor and a body moved past him. He stared at the wooden pew in front of him, toying with his glove before he lifted his gaze. Anthony bowed before Queen Charlotte before taking his spot on the left side of the archbishop. Anthony looked toward his family first before he met (Y/N)s gaze. (Y/N) turned his head away from him and looked back at Kate as she walked. She looked at him and her lips quirked into a pitiful yet supportive smile, eyes softening as she passed him. She curtsied before Her Majesty and stood off to the archbishops' right. She glanced at Anthony, gaze hardening for a moment.
"There she is.." (Y/N) heard his mother whisper and he shifted, standing up alongside his parents as Edwina walked down the aisle, hand in hand with her mother. The guests marveled at her beauty and Edwinas' happiness was enough to make a smile tug at (Y/N)s' lips. Such a pure, kind soul. (Y/N) couldn't bring himself to find a single fault in her, even as she stood in front of Anthony and smiled at him.
"Please be seated." The archbishop's voice bounced off the walls, echoing through the large room. He waited for everyone to be seated before continuing. "Dearly beloved, we are gathered together here in the sight of God, and in the face of this congregation, to join together this man and this woman in holy matrimony. And therefore, it is not by any to be enterprise, nor taken in hand, unadvisedly, lightly, and wantonly to satisfy men's carnal lusts and appetites..."
(Y/N) bit the inside of his cheek and shifted slightly in his seat, unable to get comfortable. He felt Henry subtly press his arm against his in an attempt to bring him some comfort, though it did little to calm him. He made eye contact with Anthony again and he held it this time, the tight-lipped smile on Anthony's face shifting into a frown. They hadn't spoken in the night at the Bridgertons' house and (Y/N) doubted they'd ever speak again, especially after the harsh words he'd thrown at him. But a part of him wanted to speak with him, to ask him, to hear him out. Even if it hurt.
"My lord?" Anthonys' head snapped toward the archbishop and he blinked, looking at Edwina before he gazed back at (Y/N). (Y/N) pressed his lips together when Edwina glanced back at him, her brows furrowing. He could see the wheels begin to turn in her head and it seemed Kate had noticed too, her fingers anxiously toying with the jewelry around her wrists. One suddenly unlatched and fell to the ground with a soft clang, drawing Anthonys' attention. Before Kate could crouch down to pick it up, Anthony stepped forward, head lifting to look at (Y/N) as he picked it up. Edwina watched him closely and when she noticed Anthony looking at the painter once more, her grip on her bouquet loosened.
"Thank you, My Lord," Kate whispered as Anthony handed her back her bracelet but her eyes remained solely on her sister, eyes almost pleading as Edwina's breathing became heavy and irregular.
"Miss Edwina-"
"I need a moment!" She stepped away from Anthony, glancing back at (Y/N) before racing down the aisle. Her mother and sister were quick to run after her as loud murmuring filled the air, followed by the loud sound of fireworks going on. (Y/N) focused on the pew in front of him again and released a shaky breath.
"This is why I warned you, time and time again." His father muttered quietly. Disappointment. "Because people get hurt. I taught you better than this."
Silently rising from the pew, (Y/N) joined the guests leaving the chapel and headed up the stairs, aimlessly walking until he found an empty room to occupy. He shut the doors behind him and sniffled, his fathers' words and tone echoing in his mind as he walked further into the small room, the hot tears slipping down his face. He sniffled and inhaled deeply, resting his hands on the desk at the end of the room as he tried to calm himself.
He'd spent half his childhood trying to make his father proud, trying to keep him happy so he wouldn't leave on another trip around the world. To disappoint him after so many years... And poor Edwina. Such a sweet and gentle soul. Her wide, warm eyes filled with shock.
"Fuck." (Y/N) grunted, slipping his gloves off and throwing them on the floor. Furiously wiping away the tears that refused to stop, he continued to breathe in and out until the doors suddenly opened and closed. He spun around and stared at an equally surprised Kate. One of her bracelets slipped from her fingers and fell to the ground before the other one followed. She stared at him and took two slow steps forward.
"She knows," Kate whispered, quickening her pace and throwing her arms around (Y/N), a sob shaking her body. "She knows and she hates me."
"Who? Edwina?"
"Yes!" Kate wailed, knees giving out from underneath her. (Y/N) quickly wrapped his arms around her waist and crouched down, moving onto his knees and gently setting Kate down. The brunette sobbed and buried her face into his neck, hiccuping softly.
"Kate, she could never hate you." (Y/N) assured her and pulled back to cup her warm, tear-stained cheeks. "You are her sister. You love her and she loves you, she knows that. She's angry, yes, but it will pass. You have not wronged her, not like Anthony and I have."
"I kept it from her. I should've told her and saved her the heartbreak and embarrassment. Her face... She looked destroyed, (Y/N)." Kate shook her head, strands of hair sticking to her face. She brought her knees up to her chests and wrapped her arms around them, squeezing her eyes shut and forcing more tears down her face.
"I know... She's hurting right now. It will hurt for days, weeks... Months, even. But she won't be mad at you for long. She's just taking her anger out on you for now cause she's overwhelmed. She does not hate you, Kate. She may say it or think it right now, but in her heart, she loves you. She just needs space and time to take everything in." He wiped the tears away and placed his hand on her shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Breathe, Kate."
Taking in a few deep breaths and exhaling, Kate slowly calmed herself down enough for the tears to stop. She gently rubbed her cheeks, drying her skin with the fabric of her gloves. "And how are you?"
"Not well." He responded with a sigh. "But just like you, I'll feel better soon."
"This is all his fault."
"And mine." (Y/N) added softly, raising his brows at her. Kate parted her lips to object but ultimately said nothing, looking away instead and sighing with a small nod.
"Come on, Kate." (Y/N) rose from the dusty floor, offering Kate his hand and pulling her up alongside him. He smiled at her and brushed back some of her hair strands. It'd only be a matter of time before someone went looking for them, and if they were to be found alone... Well, they'd be the ones getting married.
"I'll go first and after a few seconds, you can come out." (Y/N) instructed, taking her hands in his and squeezing them gently.
With a soft sigh, (Y/N) retrieved his gloves from the floor and exited the room, stepping out into the hallway as he wiped the dust away from his gloves. He glanced down one end of the hall in search of his parents before looking down the other end, only to see Anthony. (Y/N)s' eyes widened slightly and when Anthony began walking towards him, he stumbled back into the hallway and toward the room, throwing the door open.
"(Y/N), what-"
"Go, go!" (Y/N) quickly pushed Kate deeper into the room and shut the door but his silent prayer went unheard as the door opened and Anthony stared at the two in bewilderment.
"Oh." Kate breathed.
"What are you two doing alone again?" Anthony questioned, gently shutting the door to not draw any attention before facing them.
"This is our place of refuge."
"A closet?" He furrowed his brows and Kate scoffed softly.
"Yes, now, please go." Kate walked toward him and the door, reaching for the doorknob but Anthony quickly stepped in front of her to prevent her from reaching it.
"No, we must speak. All of us."
"I have nothing to say to you-"
"I just spoke with Miss Edwina. She was harsher than I knew her capable of being. I concede I do not know her as well as you do, Kate, which is why you must do something." Anthony said, looking down at Kate, expression soft and pleading. Kate's shoulders slumped and she turned away from him, shaking her head.
"What would you have me do, My Lord? More plotting and scheming? It seems my sister has finally become wise to it all. In one way... I should feel quite proud." Kate said with a sad smile, wrapping her arms around herself and looking back at Anthony. He frowned and scoffed softly.
"So, you intend to cease to help her and hide in a closet as she ruins her life?"
"She's not ruining her life, Anthony. Edwina is simply doing what she wants, instead of what you want. If she wishes to put an end to this whole mess then so be it. She has a choice, she sees that now. She certainly doesn't need you intervening because you're upset someone finally realized what type of person you truly are." (Y/N) spat. Anthony swallowed and lowered his gaze, shutting his eyes briefly before looking back up at him.
"Give us a moment, Miss Sharma."
"No, Kate, stay-" (Y/N) stepped toward Kate but Anthony grabbed his arm to stop him.
"Please." He pleaded softly. (Y/N) grinded his teeth together and looked him in the eye. The questions he had could be answered, but he could also risk being left with even more doubts. Tearing his eyes away from Anthony and looking back at Kate, he pursed his lips and shook his head, tugging his arm free.
"You've had many chances, Anthony. I will not be made a fool by you again." (Y/N) stated and brushed past him, thrusting the doors open and stepping out. He felt his breathing go uneven and he made his way downstairs, entering the now empty and quiet chapel. Relieved with no one in sight, (Y/N) took slow steps forward and settled down on one of the pews.
He'd been one of the few to never attend a service. All the times he'd stepped into a church were to speak to the priests about a painting or to witness a wedding. Even if he had wanted to, the servants were the only ones who could take him as his parents were too busy. His father off on his travels or entertained by a younger man and his mother occupying herself by hosting her friends. A lonesome childhood. One that may have resulted in his desire to please others, to forgive them, to be kind.
(Y/N) sat there, for hours it felt, before he heard footsteps clicking down the aisle. He turned in his seat and sighed when he saw Anthony. He rose from the pew, one hand gripping the back of it as he frowned.
"What do you want?"
"Did you not send for me?"
"What?" (Y/N)s' brows furrowed. His eyes shifted onto Kate as she entered the chapel as well, looking between them in utter confusion. She cleared her throat and clasped her hands in front of her, taking slow steps forward.
"You sent for me, (Y/N)?"
"I-" (Y/N) felt his breath hitch in his throat when he spotted Edwina entering after Kate. She held her head high, still clad in her long white dress. Her face, once bright and happy, now usually stoic and devoid of emotion. She stopped in the middle of the aisle, letting her eyes sweep over her sister and fiancé.
"I have made my decision." She announced. "I thought it best you all hear it from me."
"Edwina, we should speak in private," Kate interjected but Edwina ignored her and walked forward.
"I cannot marry you, Lord Bridgerton. You cannot provide me with what it is that I want. What it is that I deserve." Edwina glowered, jaw clenched and eyes full of fire. "What everyone deserves." She added, this time more softly as she looked at (Y/N). Her features hardened once more and she looked back at Anthony. "I may not know exactly what true love feels like but I certainly know what it is not. It is not deception or wandering eyes, or a role to be fulfilled. I cannot marry you because I cannot betray myself. You will never meet my eyes in the same manner you met Mr. Granville's on that altar today. You will never... You will never look at me the same way."
With a shaky breath, Edwina turned away from Anthony and faced her sister. "You say you have spent your life trying to give me everything I lacked, but really, you simply gave me everything you really wanted for yourself, as though my life were not my own. I did not ask for any of it, Kate! So, today, I can be sure that what I leave behind is not my loss. It is yours. You say you tried shielding me, protecting me from the truth when truly, you were just protecting yourself. Today, you have lost your power while I have made up my own mind. And that is victory enough for me." Inhaling softly, she began making her way toward the exit before abruptly stopping and looking at (Y/N) over her shoulder.
"Despite my lack of knowledge when it comes to true love, I know that when I find it, he will not keep me a secret." (Y/N) watched her disappear behind the drapes, her words feeling like a punch to the gut. (Y/N) dug his teeth into his bottom lip and turned his head to look at Anthony, fingers digging into the wood of the pew.
"I must..." Kate swallowed, blinking away unshed tears and grasping at her dress, lifting it barely off the ground and quickly going after Edwina.
A moment of silence passed, the two men standing still, unable to form the right words. Anthony could feel the silence choking him. Once upon a time, he found the silence pleasing and comfortable. Now, all he wanted to do was hear (Y/N)s' voice, even if it meant being screamed at. But instead, (Y/N) turned toward him with a sad smile.
"If we hadn't met if we hadn't spoken... If we had been smarter... None of this would've happened. You would've been celebrating your marriage right now." (Y/N) spoke, voice barely audible. "You would've been happy with a bride at your side and-"
"No." Anthony breathed and shook his head. He took long strides, brows forming wrinkles on his forehead as he took (Y/N)s' hands in his own, wrapping his fingers around them and holding them to his chest. "I wouldn't have been happy. Not in a million years."
"Anthony, I... I care for you. But I know that while I can give you what you want, I cannot give you what you need. You're a Bridgerton... The first-born son who needs an heir to carry on the family name and legacy. You've said it countless times before. You and I burned but like any flame, we would've gone out sooner or later. It's time we put this thing between us to rest, for the sake of our families and our sanity." (Y/N) leaned forward, pressing his lips against Anthonys'. He didn't allow the kiss to last for long, knowing it'd be harder to pull apart if it did. Resting his forehead against Anthonys, he sighed softly.
"It was nice while it lasted... My Lord."
               ꕤ         ꕤ       ꕤ       ꕤ       ꕤ       ꕤ
"What a scandal."
"Not now, Steph." (Y/N) grunted, the tip of his pencil breaking against the paper. He cursed softly under his breath and leaned back in the bench, fingers rubbing the side of his temple. A headache had settled in the previous day and no matter how much tea he drank or how much fresh air he got, it refused to budge. An inconvenience he didn't need in the slightest.
"It hasn't gone away? Perhaps you're getting sick." Stephanie mused, tapping her folded fan against her clothed thigh.
"Perhaps." He muttered. Stephanie reached over and wrapped her arm around his, gently coaxing him up.
"Then we shall cut this walk short. I wouldn't want you pushing yourself too much." (Y/N) nodded, closing his sketchbook and holding it against his hip as he stood. Stephanie motioned for her maid to follow before the two began walking down the path, a cool breeze keeping their bodies from warming too much. (Y/N) turned her head toward the lake, watching the twinkling water. An image that once soothed his mind now did nothing for him. Maybe he truly was getting sick.
"Mr. Granville!" (Y/N)s' head snapped forward to look at Violet and he felt his headache intensify. Clearing his throat and trying not to wince, he offered her a smile. Violet glanced at Stephanie and licked her lips, parting them only to close them. (Y/N) glanced at his blonde friend and hummed softly.
"Steph, give us a moment, please?"
"Of course." Stephanie smiled politely at Violet and strode forward, beckoning her maid with a flick of her wrist.
"What is it, Lady Bridgerton?" Playing dumb with the woman who had eight children. As if he didn't look like a child who'd been caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Violet released a breathy chuckle and clasped her hands together, glancing at everyone who walked past them. Each person eyed the woman with either pity or disappointment and (Y/N) had been partly to blame for it.
"Join us at Lady Danburys', please. You are part of this scandal as much as the rest of us, even if the ton doesn't know it."
(Y/N) wanted the ground to open up and swallow him whole. He stared at his gloved hands as Lady Danbury ranted about the tons' reaction to the scandal, looking absolutely enraged. He could feel Edwinas' stare burning into the side of his head and almost as if it were in cahoots with her, his headache squeezed around his brain.
"We know what we are to deal with, at least." Violet piped up softly.
"We shall not remove ourselves from this fight. All will be lost if we run now." Lady Sharma voiced, one hand in Kate's, her thumb rubbing soothing circles in her daughters' hand.
Edwina scoffed softly. "I shall like to remove myself from this room." She muttered bitterly as she rose from her seat and fetched herself some sugar for her drink. Her mother stared after her in surprise and guilt.
"Every day that goes by without our altering the ton-shared sentiment will harden it." Lady Danbury pointed out, hard eyes flickering between the two men.
"Perhaps we need another story as to why things ended." Lady Sharma looked at them with a look that only mothers gave to their children when they were disappointed in them. (Y/N) swallowed, pressing himself further against his seat and praying he'd be excused and allowed to leave in the next few minutes.
"We have already started to tell one. We cannot change course now." Lady Danbury rebutted with a shake of her head.
"Well, if we cannot speak about the reasons, might we at least act as though they are of no consequence to us?" Violet raised her brows and looked at Lady Sharma before turning toward Lady Danbury with a knowing look. Lady Danbury grinned widely.
"A ball."
"Yes! Together. We prove to the ton that our story is true. It was indeed a mutual decision between all interested parties, and there is no scandal or ill will between our families at all." Violet beamed and Edwina set her cup down with a clank, an exasperated look on her face. Lady Sharma gave her youngest a look.
"A ball would give Edwina the chance to find another suitor." She raised her brows at her.
"Another ball? So that the ton might inspect this wreckage with an even closer eye?" Anthony finally spoke for the first time that evening but he didn't look in (Y/N)s' direction and neither did the painter. Edwina stared at the two of them with a clenched jaw before humming.
"A ball may very well work." Edwina nodded and Violet smiled widely. "After all, the Viscount and Mr. Granville have been so good at hiding their true feelings from everyone in public this far! It should not trouble them to do the same a little longer." The ladies' smiles dropped and Lady Sharma quietly hissed Edwina's name. Edwina looked at her mother with a frown before little Newton scurried into the room, barking up a storm and running right up to (Y/N). The painter couldn't help but smile and lean down, giving the corgi the attention he demanded.
"Newton!" Kate tutted and stood up from her seat but Anthony leaned over, gently pushing the dog away from the painter.
"Oh, it's fine." (Y/N) chuckled, standing up from his seat alongside Anthony. With another call from Kate, Newton finally obeyed his owner and waddled over into her arms. (Y/N) watched him with a smile before turning his head to look at Anthony. The Bridgerton hummed softly, staring into his eyes with a small smile of his own. He leaned over slightly, purposefully brushing his shoulder against (Y/N)s', looking away when (Y/N) gave him a look.
"Was I truly that blind?" Edwina gaped at the two, spinning around to face the others. "Were they always this obvious?"
"If this plan is to work..." Violet began as she rose from her seat.
"I suggest the two of you stay on opposite sides of the room at all times." Lady Danbury finished for her, gripping the top of her cane and leaning over, smacking the side of Anthonys' leg. Before (Y/N) could chuckle, she did the same to him, forcing the two to step away from each other.
"All we need would be for someone to witness something untoward-"
"I beg your pardon, Lady Danbury. I do not know what you mean to say." Anthony cut in quickly with a scoff as his mother approached him.
"What she means to say, Anthony is that those of us in this room at present are the only ones who know the full truth of the matter," Violet explained, placing a hand on Anthonys' arm.
"And we would prefer to keep it that way. You of all people should know the risk of this being found out, (Y/N)." Lady Danbury raised her brows and he swallowed, eyes falling onto the carpet beneath him.
"I'm fully aware that many would call for my... our death if the ton were to find out."
"Precisely why there must not even be a passing look between the two of you, lest we wish to read about it in Lady Whistledown. Are we clear?"
"Quite, Lady Danbury."
"Yes." (Y/N) nodded, taking her nod as a dismissal and turning away. He walked out of the drawing room and headed down the hall, one hand ghosting over the railing. He felt the world spin and squeezed his eyes shut, hand clamping around it. Sucking in a breath, he brought a hand up to his forehead.
"Are you alright, Mr. Granville?" A servant questioned.
"Mm? Yes, I'm alright, thank you." (Y/N) replied breathily and smiled at the maid. She hesitantly nodded and continued up the stairs.
             ꕤ         ꕤ       ꕤ       ꕤ       ꕤ       ꕤ
"This one is yours, right, darling?" Lucy motioned to the painting before them, smiling up at it.
"Yes, it's the lake beside grandfather's estate at sunrise. If you look closely, you can see Moonlight standing in front of the lake." (Y/N) smiled fondly. Lucy chuckled and nodded, staring at the painting for a moment longer, the longing to see her late parents again evident on her face. Stepping closer to her son, she sighed.
"Moonlight had always been your grandfathers' favorite. I'm glad you share similar feelings." Glancing at the painting one last time, she turned away and observed the statue nearby.
"Mrs. Granville." Lucy and her son turned their heads to look at Violet as she approached. (Y/N) inhaled. Right, the ball. Violet smiled at him knowingly before facing his mother and taking her hand.
"We're hosting a ball later this week. I was hoping you'd be able to make it."
"I'll have to speak with my husband first." Lucy returned the smile and gave Violet's hand a gentle squeeze, letting it slip from her grasp afterward and glancing back at her son before she continued. Violet watched her go before sighing and looking at (Y/N).
"Was that a yes or a no?"
"Sounded like a no." (Y/N) answered truthfully, offering his arm for her to take. Violet did so and shook her head, glancing at the others as they whispered and murmured, not even bothering to hide their distaste.
"If I'm honest... I had my suspicions. Anthony doesn't get attached to strangers so easily, especially his siblings' friends. At first, I thought you'd been the exception, and then when Anthony told me one day that he hadn't been feeling well and what he described sounded like a crush..." Violet trailed off, speaking quietly. "Deep down, I knew it had to be you."
"I know for most parents finding out your child is... Well, most would consider it a nightmare."
"But I don't." Violet frowned, shaking her head. "I certainly don't understand it, but I do not believe it is a nightmare. In fact, I'm relieved. For the longest time, I thought Anthony had been incapable of love after Edmund died. I knew he cared for the singer he'd been seeing but I didn't believe it was love. Then, you came along and I saw him look alive... And happy. You're good for him, (Y/N). I'll never be able to hate my children for being who they are and I certainly can't hate you for making my son happy. Whatever you two decide to do, I just hope you'll at least remain friends cause Anthony isn't the only one who enjoys your company in the family." Violet smiled warmly, inhaling softly before she stepped away to mingle with the others. (Y/N) watched her go and swallowed, continuing to walk down the aisle until he stopped by a statue.
(Y/N) knew he couldn't expect less from Violet. Her love for her children was tremendous and an example to all mothers. He doubted she could hate anyone unless they directly harmed her family. (Y/N) wished he'd met her as a child. Perhaps his youth would've been spent running with Benedict instead of being fretted over by maids within the walls of the Granville house.
"Your mother is an angel, I'm sure of it." (Y/N) murmured and looked at Anthony as he stood beside him. Anthonys' lips quirked, eyes looking over the statue before he turned his head to look at the painter.
"We shouldn't linger around each other for long, Anthony. Unless you wish to face Lady Danbury and her cane." (Y/N) glanced over his shoulder in search of said woman, in case her hawk eyes had spotted them together.
"I'd face her wrath a million times over if it meant being by your side." (Y/N) despised the way his lips formed a smile and the involuntary chuckle that slipped past them. Anthony perked at the sound of it and his eyes softened.
"You should give poetry another attempt, Anthony. It appears you're getting better at it."
"If that's what you want." Anthony continued, voice softening. He stepped around (Y/N) and went back to inspecting the statue to not attract any wandering eyes.
"Flattery will not change my mind, Anthony."
"Your smile says otherwise."
Papa bends down to my height and gestures to the woman beside him, “Y/N I would like you to meet Kate Sharma.”
I peek around at Papa but try to hide behind him still. Kate smiles at me and reaches her hand out to mine, “It is nice to meet you Y/N.”
I back up slightly and smile back I try to squint my eyes to make my smile more natural but I am worried it looks even more forced. Kate looks at papa and he says, “ She takes a while to warm up to people she much prefers to talk about horses. Isn’t that right Y/N”
I nod aggressively which makes Kates's smile brighten, “I actually ride horses frequently.. even by myself sometimes.” She says whispering the last part.
I smile at Kate and this time it feels much more natural. That is until Papa interrupts “ Kate and I will be spending more time together so that means our routine will be changing.”
My smile is wiped off my face and I can feel my cheeks start to burn. “What do you mean by that,” or at least that’s what I try to say but my mouth betrays me and it comes out broken and I stutter which just makes me more upset.
I start to shake my head and shut my eyes tight. This is not right our schedule has never changed why is some lady ruining our schedule? It does not make sense! Papa gently places his hand on mine which makes me open my eyes and look at my hands.
“Change is okay Y/N I will always be there for you, no matter what,” Papa says intensely but I avoid his gaze.
I squint my eyes again and start listing our daily schedule over and over again.
Kate tries to interrupt my listing but I continue the routine even though I am running out of breath. Kate manages to squeeze in what she was going to say when I finally gasp for air.
“Do not change your schedule for me! How about you just add me to your schedule.” Kate says and I stare at her taking in her pretty smile.
I take a deep breath to soothe myself and nod, “That could work.”
Father’s mouth morphs into a huge grin and pulls us all into a deep hug. I am usually not one for hugs but the deep pressure of this one is very nice. Maybe this could work.
ever since arriving in mayfair, the sharma family has caused quite a stir in the ton. shortly after arriving, edwina, the youngest sharma, was proclaimed the queen's diamond of the season which meant every suitable man was looking at her but it was her older sister that caught your eye. the moment your aunt, lady danbury, introduced you to her, you were utterly infatuated.
you've always known that you were different from other girls. yes, you liked going to social festivities and dressing up for balls but your romantic thoughts and feelings lay elsewhere; with women. of course, you could never act on anything publicly as that would bring much shame to lady danbury and you could not do that to her after all that she has done for you after your parents passed.
but that didn't stop how you felt when kate sharma walked into your life and turned it upside down. within the first week of her family's stay with you and your aunt, you discovered through the maids that kate enjoyed early morning rides so one morning you woke up extra early to dust off your riding boots and pick an appropriate dress. you were in the stable adjusting the saddle on your horse when you heard footsteps approach.
"couldn't sleep?" kate asked. even in the earliest of mornings, she looked breathtaking. her long thick hair, usually tucked in a bun, was now in a loose braid tossed to one side of her shoulder.
chuckling you responded, "something like that."
kate made her way to your horse. "you ride?"
"occasionally. are you headed out?" you ask, hoping she takes the hint and invites you to tag along for a horse ride.
"i am actually. i tend to sneak out alone but d-did you want to join me? i understand if you don't i merely–"
"miss sharma, i'd love to," you interrupted.
kate smiled softly and went over to one of the free horses and climbed on it in the most graceful manner and you followed her actions. with a swift kick, she was off. you tried your best to keep up as you raced through the open fields but you were no match for her. she was an excellent rider.
there was a clearing ahead with a few trees where kate stopped and got off her horse. reaching out her hand, she helped you get off yours but once you were on the ground your hand was still in hers. the sound of heavy breathing was all that you could hear. both your eyes trailed down each others cloak covered bodies not wanting to say a word to ruin this moment. within a matter of seconds, kate took initiative and pushed you against a tree. she searched your eyes seeking permission to do what she's been wanting to do for days: kiss you. a slight nod was all it took for kate to collide her lips onto yours fervently. the kiss was hot and was full of need and desire from both ends.
"we can't..." her hot breath on your face. you pressed her forehead against yours.
"i know," you replied and caught her lips once again. she made no further objections as she slipped her tongue into your mouth which was met with a moan from you. it was then that kate decided your moans were better than any pianoforte piece she's ever heard.
since that day in the clearing, you and kate have always found ways to sneak off together. it was more difficult during the day because she was so fixated on finding edwina's perfect match. well, that and the fact that the entire mayfair society would shun your family and hers without a question.
however, the nights and early mornings were yours and yours alone. it was the perfect time to explore each other and the more you did the harder you fell. kate sharma was it for you and you for her.
I've had one scene haunting my dreams asking to be written - so that is what I did this evening, write the final scene of my Bridgerton Poly story that only has the prologue completed.
This is a story that I did not intend to start just yet but oh well, that is what I have done. I will hold off posting it until the two stories that are almost finished are completely and utterly finished.
Hopefully, now that this scene is out of my mind and crafted into the pages of a Google Doc, I can focus and finish those other chapters.
Charade
Pairing: Anthony Bridgerton x reader x Kate Sharma
Requested by Anon
Summary: The charade you must put on strains your lovers...
Y/N L/N, the Viscountess Bridgerton’s dearest friend living with her while her family was traveling.  That was the story you told the world, and the ton lapped it up.  The truth was a bit more complicated: you were the lover of both Kate and Anthony Bridgerton, your relationship unfolding out right under the noses of London’s most prestigious nobility.  Your ruse was necessary to maintain your place in the Bridgertons’ home, as was your attendance at balls, teas, and luncheons.
You needed to play the role of a young lady seeking a match, and to Kate and Anthony’s displeasure, it was a role you played quite well.  To all of London, the reason you denied suitors and cut ties after one promenade or afternoon tea was that you were a lady with high standards, eagerly seeking the man who would compliment her.  But to the Bridgerton family, you were a woman doing everything she could to stay with her loves
Tonight was no different.  Lady Trowbridge was hosting a ball, and naturally, you had to attend.  Kate would serve as your chaperone, but your contact with your lovers would be otherwise limited throughout the evening.  For the most part, you enjoyed attending balls: dancing, chatting with friends, your hosts often provided delicious foods, but you wished you could share one dance with your lovers.
As Kate and Anthony were married, they could not dance with each other, and Anthony was loath to dance with anyone other than his wife.  He could dance with you if he wished, but that would lead him to dance with every other unmarried lady, which he did not fancy.  Sharing a dance with Kate was out of the question, so you continued your charade of a lady seeking a husband.
When you entered the carriage at the end of the evening, you could feel the tension in the air.  Anthony was brooding, and Kate was gazing out the window.  “My loves?” you asked.  “Is everything alright?”  Anthony pursed his lips.  “You and Mister Lark seemed quite friendly,” he said, and you sighed, folding your hands.  “He was perfectly polite, before you insinuate anything.”
“Perhaps we should invite him for tea tomorrow,” Anthony quipped.  “Chaperone you on a promenade?”  “Anthony,” Kate said, warning in her voice, but the Viscount pressed on.”  “Or Lord Colins!  He was very interested in hearing about your latest piece of needlework!”  “Anthony, what is this?  You know tha-”  “Do I?  Because you seemed quite interested in both of them!”
Kate rested a hand on your shoulder, frowning.  “Anthony, please,” she said.  “You know exactly why Y/N attends these balls, and it is not for her own enjoyment.”  Anthony muttered something under his breath.  “What was that?” you said, anger and guilt beginning to boil in you.  “I said you seemed to be enjoying yourself quite a bit tonight.”  At that moment, the carriage rolled to a stop, and before the footman could open the door, you threw it open, lifting your skirts and storming into the house.
The Viscountess placed an arm across the door, preventing Anthony from exiting.  “That was unnecessary,” she said.  “Do you think I enjoy seeing her dance with other men? Do you think it is easy to watch her go on promenades or attend lunch parties?  No, Anthony, it is not.  But she is doing all of this for us!  So she can be with us!  And I know it is breaking her up inside to do this.  And you are not making it easier.”
Kate exited the carriage and entered the house, leaving Anthony to sulk after her.  She found you lying in your bed, still dressed in your gown, tears on your face.  “Oh, sweet one,” Kate said, kneeling at your side.  “Come here.”  You sat up and nuzzled into her arms, instantly feeling calmer.  “I hate this,” you cried.  “I hate pretending that I don’t love you, that I don’t want to fall into your arms and run away with you.”
“I know, my darling,” Kate soothed.  “I am so sorry.  Anthony…I do not know what came over him.  He knows why you do what you do, and he understands.  It is not easy for us, my sweet, but…we cannot blame you.”  You inhaled deeply, the scent of her perfume soothing your frayed nerves.  “Do you want me to talk to him?”  “No,” you replied.  “No.  He…will come around.  Hopefully.”
Kate shook her head.  “He will, darling.”  She helped you to dress for bed, and you fell asleep in her arms.  When you woke, you found a large bouquet of flowers on the vanity with a note attached.  You rose from bed and picked up the note, unfolding it.  My dearest love, I am so sorry for last night.  Your circumstances are unique, and as such, your actions must reflect it.  I know that your heart is ours, surely as mine is yours.  I pray you can forgive me.  -A
You pulled your dressing gown on and made your way down to the drawing room, wondering if Cook had made more of the chocolate scones you liked.  But instead of the usual breakfast spread, you found Anthony surrounded by dozens of floral arrangements, the sweetest look on his face.
“Anthony,” you gasped.  “What is all this?”  “This is me,” he replied.  “Apologizing for being a massive ass last night.”  He crossed the room to you and took your hands in his, kissing them gently.  “You are doing everything you can in this world to be here and stay with us, and I should be more appreciative of that.  I have no right to be jealous, Y/N, and I am sorry.  It is just hard to see you with other men, knowing that you would so much rather be with us.”
“Of course I would,” you replied, sniffling softly.  “But if I do not pretend to be looking for a husband, people will question why I am here, and -”  “Shh, I know, my love.  I should not have been so obtuse.  Can you forgive me, Y/N?”  Rather than respond, you threw yourself into his arms.  Anthony took that as a “yes” and held you tighter, kissing your hair.  The pair of you stayed in each other’s arms for some time, only breaking apart when Kate entered, clearing her throat and smiling.
Part 12
Request: Yes or No
Short but necessary as the next part will be the end of this series
~~~
The Great Hall of the Bridgerton Residence... appeared particularly empty, though nonetheless stunning. Soft music wafted from above as (Y/N) stepped further inside. While the ton could certainly be stubborn, could the wedding scandal truly have warranted such an absence? The Bridgertons had gone through their fair share of scandals through the years, as if most of the ton, but he'd never attended a ball with no guests before. The matriarchs had seemed so convincing at the art gallery with their dazzling smiles and white lies.
"I'm pleased to see you, Mr. Granville," Violet called out as her family descended down the stairs, eyes flickering around the room for any sign of other guests. "Were your parents unable to make it?"
"Well..." Henry had chosen to get drunk with his lover and Lucy preferred mingling with her 'friends'. (Y/N) smiled apologetically. "Father was busy with business and Mother wasn't feeling well. They sincerely apologize for their absence."
"Ah, I see." Violet nodded, smoothing out her dress with a gloved hand. The way she sighed told (Y/N) she didn't fully believe him.
Lady Danbury entered the room with the Sharmas, their air of confidence popping like a bubble when they took in the room. Their faces shifted into wide-eyed and borderline horrified expressions. Lady Danbury turned toward Violet, mouth agape. Violet could only sigh once, shoulders slumping as she surveyed the room once more.
"It is still quite early, I suppose." Lady Sharma spoke up, sending Violet a soft, hopeful smile, even though it didn't reach her eyes in the slightest.
"Would you still like us to play, My Lady?" One of the musicians asked Violet, nodding when Violet shook her head and dismissed him gently. With a wave of his hand, the other musicians set their instruments down. The Bridgerton siblings exchanged grim looks and Benedict cleared his throat, stepping toward Anthony as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"If there's no need for my presence, I'll head to my studio," Benedict said, patting Anthonys' shoulder and heading towards the exit. "I do not wish to be around such misery all evening."
"Wait!"
"I know of your opinions, Brother-" Benedict sighed and faced his brother with an exasperated frown.
"You will stay for a dance." Anthony smiled, cupping Benedicts' neck in his hand, appearing rather happy for a man who had originally rejected the idea of a ball and rarely attended them unless he felt obligated to. Stepping away from his brother and looking at everyone, his smile widened, only drawing concerned looks from his family.
"Dancing? With whom?" Colin questioned, glancing at an equally perplexed Eloise.
With a chuckle, Anthony faced the stairwell and tilted his head upward. "Hyacinth!" Hyacinth and Gregory peered over the railing, curiously looking down at their brother. "Come down here and do me the honor!"
"If she gets to dance, so do I!" Gregory called as Hyacinth gleefully raced down the stairs, quickly followed by her brother. Hyacinth approached Anthony with a giggle and took his hand, laughing as Anthony spun her around. (Y/N) smiled fondly and took some steps back, taking Violet and Edwinas' hands as they got into a circle.
"Something lively. A country dance, perhaps?" Anthony called up to the musicians as they gathered their instruments once more. "I believe the theme you have chosen tonight is harmony, Mother."
The music picked up, lively and quick just as Anthony had requested. (Y/N) turned and bowed to Edwina with a big smile before facing the inside of the circle, moving in and out along with the music and everyone else. Releasing their hands, (Y/N) went in the circle as Edwina clapped and laughed before he returned to her, one hand moving to her hip and the other cupping her elbow as they danced in a circle. Edwina threw her head back with laughter, pressing herself to (Y/N)s' as they moved before everyone got back into the big circle once more.
They repeated the first dance move and (Y/N) grinned as Gregory went over to him. Everyones' laughter and giggles echoed throughout the house as they danced, the bitterness and spite from the scandal forgotten for the night. With the third round, Anthony made his way to (Y/N), and (Y/N) acknowledged him with a smile, placing his hands on Anthonys' shoulder and bicep. The two were able to laugh and exchange smiles before the dance ended.
Feeling rather breathless, (Y/N) took a moment to catch his breath, feeling Anthony rest his hand on his lower back. (Y/N) smiled and rubbed his hand against Anthonys' shoulder before stepping away from him so they wouldn't be chastised by the older women. He weakly clapped his hands and chuckled, scanning the room for the refreshment table. He winced when Hyacinth suggested another dance and made a beeline for the lemonade table, picking up a glass and drinking it in one gulp as the others reached for snacks or other refreshments.
"Mrs. Wilson? Is something wrong?" (Y/N) licked his lips and turned toward Violet as Mrs. Wilson approached her with an all too familiar pamphlet. Violet took it from her and began reading, face falling as she glanced at Lady Danbury.
"Is that Lady Whistledown? Has she published, Mama?" Eloise questioned, quickly walking over to her mother.
"Indeed she has. And now we may know why we are the only ones here." Violet muttered, gazing up at her daughter and handing her the pamphlet. Eloise furrowed her brows and skimmed over the contents of the page before releasing a shaky breath, taking some steps back before bolting out of the room and up the stairs. (Y/N) could only imagine what had been written and sighed, setting down his cup and lifting a hand to his face as his headache made its presence known once more. He glanced at the others before walking down a hall, making his way through the mansion he could call a second home.
Pushing through the doors, (Y/N) felt the cold night wrap around him, cooling his flushed skin. He stepped onto the grass and walked through the backyard, listening to the crickets chirp. (Y/N) exhaled softly and peered up at the night sky, counting the twinkling stars until he came across a gazebo. Humming softly, he stepped onto it and took a seat, slipping his glove off and pressing a hand to his forehead.
"Are you feeling alright?" (Y/N) snapped his head up at the sound of Anthonys' voice. The man took slow steps toward him, studying his face with a small frown. (Y/N) nodded and stood, fiddling with his glove.
"Yes, I just needed some air. I'll leave you be-"
"Stay, (Y/N)." Anthony quickened his pace and took his wrist, holding it gently but firmly. (Y/N) swiped his tongue over his lips and sighed softly.
"If they notice-"
"I need you, (Y/N). Be it in my life or in my life. My family is on the brink of ruin and there is nothing I can do, so, please... Stay. Just this once, just tonight." Anthony breathed, taking a step closer to him. (Y/N) could feel his breath on his skin, eyes flickering down to Anthonys' lips for a moment. "Do you know... How many times I have thought about running away with you? Going somewhere far from here where nobody knows us... A place where we won't have to worry about duty or what others think. Somewhere in the countryside where we can act on our desires without hiding..."
"Sounds like a dream." (Y/N) mumbled, lifting a hand and pressing it against Anthonys' chest, lips brushing against his as he tilted his head ever so slightly.
"Do you ever dream of me? Of us?" Anthony asked softly, ghosting his lips over (Y/N)s cheek and down his knee, inhaling the scent he'd become obsessed with over months. (Y/N) inhaled shakily and shook his head, weakly pushing against his chest. "Do you ever dream about how it'd be to give in to our desires? To feel each other, to taste each other? To do things only lovers do in the bedroom?"
"Anthony, we musn't... Not here, not now.. Not ever." (Y/N) whispered despite his fingers wrapping around Anthonys' collar, pulling him closer until they were pressed against each other. Anthony released a low, throaty chuckle and pressed his lips against (Y/N)s neck, arms wrapping tightly around his waist. Anthonys' hands roamed, exploring newfound territory with the fear of being caught, exploring places that made (Y/N)s' breath hitch.
"The things you do to me without even realizing it.." Anthony growled against his skin.
(Y/N) knew he needed to push Anthony away. If they continued they'd only be putting themselves into even more trouble, more risk. But while his brain screamed at him to put an end to it, every fiber in his being refused to push him away. Even as Anthony pulled down his coat and continued to mark his neck. (Y/N) knew if anyone were to find out, he'd be in a world of misery. But he didn't care. For one night, he'd do as he damned pleased. Even if he knew he'd regret it later.
"Fine, Anthony," (Y/N) breathed and pushed Anthony back slightly, fingers creeping up and grasping Anthonys' jaw firmly. Anthony blinked, eyes widening for a second before they twinkled with mischief and want. "But, we're doing this my way."
And with that, Anthony sank to his knees.

Slamming the door to his bedchambers, (Y/N) pressed his back against it and squeezed his eyes shut. A million insults ran through his mind as he slid to the floor, burying his face in his hands. Only a complete and utter fool would've done what he did. Spending the night with a stranger? Fine, perfectly fine. Spending the night with Anthony whilst in the middle of him dealing with a scandal? Something only a jester would do. Sleeping with Anthony cemented the risk. In the eyes of Her Majesty and the church, they hadn't just fooled around. They had committed a crime. If anyone will ill intent were to find out, their execution would surely be ordered and no amount of flattery or pleading would save them.
"Are you alright, dear?" Dolly asked, gently knocking on the door. He could hear Poppy whining, her nails scraping against the wood.
"Yes." (Y/N) responded hoarsely, pressing a hand against his warm forehead. He sighed and pushed himself off the floor, tossing his coat on the bed and calling for Dolly to enter. She opened the door, allowing Poppy to trot inside first before she stepped in and shut the door. She watched him silently for a moment.
"Do you want anything?"
"I want my bags packed." (Y/N) muttered, sinking onto his bed. "Some time away from here will do me some good."
"Your grandfathers' estate, I presume?" Dolly's question didn't need an answer as she already knew it was a yes. She opened his closet and began pulling out clothes, glancing back at the young painter with a small frown.
"Perhaps you ought to visit the doctor before leaving."
"I'll be fine, Dolly." (Y/N) assured her, falling back onto the bed and staring up at the ceiling. His vision shifted and he shut his eyes, ignoring the nauseous feeling creeping up his body. He draped an arm over his eyes, listening to the shuffling of Dolly moving around his room. He felt Poppy hop onto the bed and smiled at the feeling of her curling up against his body. Using his free hand to pet his furry friend, (Y/N) waited for Dolly to be finished before he rose up.
"I'll have Carly and Tonia join you later in the evening so they can tend to you," Dolly informed him as she set the single luggage on the bed, reaching over to place her hand on his knee. (Y/N) placed his hand over hers and gave her a reassuring smile before he rose from his bed, pulling Poppy along with him.
He waited outside with his luggage and Poppy, handing his luggage over to Theodore when the carriage arrived. Theodore made sure his luggage was secure in the back as (Y/N) climbed into the carriage, setting Poppy on his lap. His mother stepped outside, watching him with a solemn look, though she made no move to question him. (Y/N) looked away from her and sighed.
"Are you ready, sir?"
"Yes, Theodore. One last thing.." (Y/N) scooted closer toward the man and leaned in. "Send it to their house in a few hours, please. I wish for a peaceful trip."
"Of course, sir. Take care of yourself." Theodore nodded and stepped back, bowing his head as the carriage began moving, taking (Y/N) away from his home and his parents, away from Mayfair and those in it who would love nothing more than to see his demise for their own enjoyment, away from the Sharmas... Away from the Bridgertons.
When the air became fresher and the sound of the city faded, (Y/N) tried to relax, but it proved difficult with his body and mind aching. He felt needlessly tired, perhaps from the prospect of a trip or from the events of the previous night. (Y/N) hummed and reached up to touch his neck, still feeling Anthonys' lips on him. He could still feel his fingers digging into his hips, into his skin. He could still hear the panting and murmurs.
“Christ, no.” Shaking those thoughts away, (Y/N) turned to look at the passing scenery. The long green grass, clear blue skies, buzzing insects. Occasionally he’d see a horse or a cow, sometimes even people walking alongside the road. It reminded him of Anthony and his words. Living out in the countryside with him sounded... pleasant. Even if he couldn’t see Anthony tending to the farm animals. They could live in a cottage and sell (Y/N)s’ paintings as a way to make ends meet. Their families could vis-
(Y/N) groaned and ran a hand over his face, drawing Poppys’ attention away from her nap. Why had it gotten increasingly difficult to not think about him? Was he truly that.. that in love? (Y/N) swallowed and pulled his half-asleep canine closer. Love... He hadn’t thought about it all that much. He loved Anthony Bridgerton. He loved that arrogant, smug, splendidly stupid bastard. He loved his flaws and perfections. His laughter and smirks. He loved how much Anthony cared for his family. He loved the way he’d woken up in his muscular arms.
He loved him.

Anthony stared at the ring pinched between his fingers, teeth digging into his bottom lip. He couldn't marry (Y/N), not traditionally. Their relationship would have to be hidden, only shown behind closed doors in the privacy of their homes. But they'd have each other and their families would have to accept them, no matter how they felt. Would they call each other husband? The thought only made his heart flutter. He'd deal with lack of heir and bride when the time came, he determined. He had time.
"Lord Bridgerton, you've got a package from the Granvilles." Anthony looked at the servant and quickly rose from his seat, placing the ring back in its box and sliding it into his pocket. He followed the servant out of his office and took in the large box waiting by the entrance, glancing back at his family as they gathered around, eager to see the contents. The servants opened the box and dipped their hands inside, pulling out an equally large portrait. A portrait of Anthony.
"Oh, Anthony... It's lovely." Violet gasped softly, bringing her hand to her face and covering her lips with her fingers. Anthony swallowed as he stared at it, taking small steps forward and reaching out, dragging his fingers over the dry paint. He swore he could feel the ring burning a hole in his pocket.
Taking a step back, Anthony inhaled and faced the nearest servant. "Ready a horse for me." He ordered and turned, heading back to his office as the servant hurried off.
"Anthony," Violet called out after him, glancing frantically back at Benedict as she walked after him, blinking when Anthony emerged with his coat in hand. "Where are you going?"
"To do something I should've done a long time ago, Mother," Anthony responded, brushing past his mother and making a beeline toward the doors. He didn't break a stride as the doors were opened for him, feet almost gliding down the steps and toward a footman waiting for him with a horse.  Slipping on his coat and taking the reins from the footman, he effortlessly got on the horse and took one last look toward his mother as she stood by the doors. Violet pressed her lips together and nodded, giving him the last push he needed. Tapping the horse with his foot, he set off onto the street, remaining in a walking stride until they reached a path with fewer people on the road. Quickening the horse's pace into a quick trot, he felt his hands grow sweaty and clammy.
But as he spotted the Granville residence come into view, he felt his worries vanish, replaced by determination. Pulling at the reins, Anthony swung his leg over and planted his feet on the ground, handing the reins off to a servant and walking up to the door. He knocked twice and stepped back, digging his hand in his pocket and toying with the soft ring box.
"Yes?" The door swung open and Lucy Granvilles' face greeted him. Her soft features hardened and she frowned, glancing back inside and exhaling deeply. She raised her brows at him, prompting him to speak.
"I wish to speak with your husband and son, Mrs. Granville."
"I'm afraid that's not possible, Lord Bridgerton." Lucy clasped her hands in front of her. "My son is not home at this time."
"Ah, well, perhaps I can wait until-"
"He's gone to my fathers' estate out in the countryside. He didn't mention when he'd return, I'm afraid. You'll have to come by some other time." Lucy grasped the doorknob and forced a smile, pushing the door but Anthony stepped forward and pressed his hand against it, preventing her from closing it.
"Where is your fathers' estate?"
"Lord Bridgerton-"
"Please," Anthony whispered. "I need to speak with him and your husband. It's urgent, I'm sure you'd understand."
"What I understand is that you've done nothing but cause issues since you and my son met." Lucy spat, sneering as she tightened her grip on the doorknob. Anthony opened his mouth to speak, pausing when a man, Henry Granville, appeared at his wife's side. Henry placed a hand on Lucys' back and eyed Anthony with a bitter frown. He stepped in front of his wife and narrowed his eyes.
"What is it, Lord Bridgerton? Have you come to torture our family further? Risk our safety for the sake of your entertainment and pleasure? I'm aware (Y/N) arrived earlier this morning from last night's ball and I doubt he merely slept over. Was that ruined wedding not enough for you? Do you wish to continue hurting others?" Henry questioned, spitting venom like a cobra. Anthony remained silent as Henry got it all off his chest before lifting his head and clearing his throat.
"I know I've done wrong by you and your family. I've hurt your son, I admit. I was foolish and realized too late how I truly feel about him. I refused to listen to my gut and heart... and I've paid for it. I've seen how hurt your son was by me and I will grovel at your feet and beg for forgiveness for years to come if that is what your heart desires. I was raised to be a gentleman, and I have not been acting like one. I sincerely apologize for the hurt I've caused over the last few months. But, I am afraid I did not come here for forgiveness, and instead to confess." Reaching into his pocket and pulling out the ring box, Anthony inhaled and took out the ring. "This is a family heirloom. This is the very ring my father proposed to my mother with. The same ring I foolishly proposed to Miss Edwina with. The same ring I hope to propose to your son with. I understand that our society would never allow us to marry traditionally, but I hope a small ceremony with family and close friends will suffice. If he accepts, of course. I've come here in hope of showing (Y/N) that what I feel for him is real. And if I could get your blessing, it'd make it all the better."
 Lucy and Henry stared at the man before them in silence. Lucys' eyes flickered down to the ring he held and she slipped out from behind her husband, stepping forward to take a closer look. She touched her own wedding ring and lifted her gaze to look at Anthony, taking in a deep breath. "Do not make me regret this, Bridgerton." She whispered softly. "Lord Akshay Bhasin. I believe he and your father once-"
"They met for business once. I was there when we visited his estate." Anthony nodded, vaguely remembering the location of the estate. "Thank you, Mrs. Granville." He stepped back and turned, walking toward his horse and climbing back on. With a tug on the reins, he took off, encouraging his horse to quicken its pace until it was running. The estate may have been hours from Mayfair, but Anthony intended to get there before the day could end. He had to. For (Y/N). For the man he'd fallen in love with.
He could finally admit it to himself. Love. Anthony, the man who'd sworn off love and everything surrounding it, had fallen in love. He knew what it felt like to breathe for someone, to wake up each day thinking about them, to look forward to being around them. For once in a long time, Anthony happily looked forward to his future. So when his body ached and his stomach howled, he ignored it. He ignored his body's demand for rest, he ignored his aching legs and burning hands. He paid no mind to the darkening sky as the sun began to lower past the treeline.
He only allowed himself to relax when he saw the mansion rapidly approaching. He leaned back and carefully pulled on the reins to slow his horse down into a much-needed trot, eyes scanning the property until he spotted a figure sitting by the large lake. Without a second thought, he got off his horse, legs burning and screaming for rest. He dug out the ring box, panting softly as he grew closer and closer to him.
"(Y/N)!" He called out, feeling his legs threatening to give out underneath him. The young painter turned his head to look back at him, eyes widening. (Y/N) stood up and stumbled slightly, grunting softly as he brought a hand to his face. Anthony frowned, coming to a stop before him and noticing the light layer of sweat covering his skin.
"(Y/N)...." He whispered, reaching up to cup his face. "You're burning up."
"What are you doing here?"
"We'll talk later. Come now, we need to get you inside." (Y/N) squeezed his eyes shut and nodded, taking a step forward only to collapse in Anthonys' arms. Thunder rumbled in the distance, mixing with Anthonys shouts for help.

HER ROYAL HIGHNESS
benedict bridgerton x princess (poc) reader
Tumblr media
After a series of agonising years of begging her mother to be let out into society — as a commoner would, equally putting her as the diamond of the season, the queen has finally, yet hesitantly agreed. Though with a single condition;
Sponsor the upcoming season. SUCCESSFULLY.
It was proven to be a challenge when her faith was put into the hands of the eldest bridgerton, whom was stubborn beyond belief. And it was only with the help of the second eldest that the princess might accomplish her goal.
However, getting Anthony to be married seemed to be less of a struggle in comparison to the hardship soon to occur with Benedict. Whose eyes never seem to leave her own.
