Hey, so a certain pastel Ace-main sent me and besides other stuff I read your Yui and Kate fic and I really enjoyed it. Would you do some Yui headcanons maybe? If you want some ship hc too. Please and thank you!
OH IM SO HAPPY YOU ENJOYED IT i adore country roads so so much... I have a few headcanons, both for her and also Kateyui related, so you may have both.
Yui headcanons:
She really likes to take care of her nails. They’re her pride and joy, just as much as her bike is. Everything’s always colour coordinated, and she had a large collection of varnishes pre-fog that she would share with the other girls if they asked. If a killer breaks her nail, she really will make them pay, by any means necessary.
Her closest friendships in the fog are actually with Claudette and Kate, anyone soft-spoken really vibes with her because honestly? She’s not... a people person, as much as she may seem like one. She’s blunt, to the point and can come across as quite harsh. Both Claudette and Kate bring out a softer side of her. Sometimes you can catch Claudette braiding flowers into Yui’s hair as she smiles to herself.
She has a rather unlikely friendship with Susie, first formed when the young Legion member first met her in a trial. It’s a onesided crush on Susie’s part, but Yui likes her optimism. If Yui can survive a trial at Susie’s hand, she lets her go through the gate with a wave goodbye.
Yui can absolutely drink you under the table, and hold up her own in an arm wrestle.
First coming into the fog was hard, again bc of her brash nature. She’s a stubborn and headstrong kind of person, very similar to Jake in a lot of ways. She had to be pulled back and taught it was OK to rely on others for help sometimes, after being a beacon of strength for people back home for so long. But once she learned that? She’s a very strong ally.
She’s claustrophobic and has a minor fear of the dark. While the latter she can very easily brush off, tight spaces will leave her short of breath and shaking.
Kateyui headcanons:
It’s surprisingly easy to get Yui flustered, but only if its Kate. Serenades, sappy pet names like honey and gentle touches are enough to get a shaky smile and a look away.
But Kate’s not entirely immune either. It’s the little things, gifts of flowers, communication and help in trials, things like that. She loves Yui’s determination.
Yui’s love language is gift-giving and actions, Kate’s is through words of affirmation.
Yui’s got two left feet, but surprisingly Kate isn’t much better. When there’s a little song and dance at the campfire, the two will try but they will step on each other's toes and laugh about it, before Kate rests her head n Yui’s shoulder and they just rock back and forth together.
There have been times where Yui has leant Kate her hachimaki, whenever she has a bad feeling and cannot join her in a trial. Kate wears it in her hair, 50′s housewife style, and it really does bring her good luck, she thinks.
Post-fog, they continue with their career paths, maintaining a long-distance relationship and getting together for birthday’s and special occasions. Kate’s family adore Yui, always making sure to make her feel welcome. They’re a quiet, unlikely couple, but as soon as you see the way they look at each other, it just... makes sense, ya know?

hand holding 14 for kateyui Again if u want !
another drabble in this cinematic universe ↘ where theyre all gfs
14: grabbing their hand to show them something
This street feels like a nightclub, all bass and flashing lights and smiling strangers. None of them pay any special attention to Kate, which is almost a blessing for once. Back home, she’s sure she’d recognize more people than she’d like to on a big night like this. Even if this whole thing is supposed to be under the radar, or whatever. She can’t imagine how anyone thinks they’re slipping under the radar when there’s a crowd here pressing at the curbs, ready to howl for their favourite champions.
An unfamiliar Korean pop beat is blasting from someone’s speaker, almost loud enough to distract her. Were it not for Yui’s outfit, Kate could almost lose her in all the commotion. But her favourite champion is dressed in her signature colour, of course. Kate follows the flash of pink just like all the other adoring women in the crowd. The only difference is, when Yui turns around to reach for someone, Kate is the one she chooses.
For once, she feels like the fan and not the star. It’s wonderful. Yui spots her trailing behind and doubles back so that she can pull Kate ahead, taking her hand as if it’s nothing at all. She raises her voice, “Come on,” and Kate doesn’t have to be told twice.
Yui’s palm is warm and dry and broad against hers, and Kate holds on tightly. The racer guides her through the street and down into a parallel alley that must be functioning as the pits for this street race. They don’t drop their grip on each other— not even when Yui reaches their destination, pulling an old tarp off of her bike with one hand.
“I wanted to show you before everything started,” Yui explains, beaming with pride. “So you can see all the details. What do you think?”
“It’s beautiful,” Kate tells her. That isn’t an exaggeration. Although she knows very little about this sport, she can see the devotion and how much work must have gone into this. The bike is bigger than she’d imagined, and she’s suddenly even more excited to see Yui actually get on this massive machine and take off flying. Scared, but excited.
She squeezes Yui’s hand to try and convey her sincerity, but doing so draws Yui’s attention to the connection between them. Without warning, the racer panics, dropping her grip on Kate as if she’s been burnt. “Oh, I didn’t mean… I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking straight, I just wanted to show you the bike!”
Kate attempts to intervene with, “It’s fine—!” but Yui is busy nervously crossing her arms, actually tucking her hands away. She might be flexing too. Not for the first time, Kate has to wonder what exactly Yui thinks Kate thinks of her.
“I didn’t mean to make it a thing,” the woman keeps rambling, spinning out now. “It’s not a thing! I mean, not that we aren’t a thing, but I didn’t… We don’t have to…”
“Yui. It’s fine,” she insists, and she offers her hands. After a moment that stretches on for long enough to make Kate doubt herself, Yui finally goes slack, unfolding her arms. She gingerly places her hands on top of Kate’s, who sighs.
This whole ordeal has a very first-dance-at-prom energy to it, in an anxious and uncomfortable and sweet way. Kate presses her thumbs between Yui’s fingers, pulling her closer until they can entwine hands properly again. Yui still looks panicked, but at least she outlasted fight-or-flight. With each passing second, she relaxes into Kate’s grasp, until finally she squeezes back gently, and murmurs, “Sorry.”
“I promise it’s alright,” Kate smiles. Yui’s shoulders sink a little more as she exhales. Kate pulls one of her hands out of Yui’s grip, just so that she can slide up to the bike and pat the seat. “So,” she begins, smiling wider, “this is your other ride, huh?”
It’s all worth it for the flustered look on the racer’s face, and how she doesn’t pull away even as she nearly trips over herself trying to come up with a response.
