Klaroline Fic: The Wolf IV [01/13]
Tumblr media
Summary: Five years after the downfall of the Mikaelson family, Caroline returns to New Orleans to fulfill the promise she made to Marcel: one day, she would be back for the man he has been keeping prisoner in the bowels of the old compound, and she would not be leaving without him. But the plans to abandon the city's eternal loop of tragedy behind once and for all are thwarted when a new enemy with unexpected old ties resurfaces, threatening not just Eve's life, but Caroline's as well.
--
S04E01 Gather Up the Killers ✨
The thing about finally getting something you longed for what feels like an eternity is the accompanying dread that it might be taken away.
Even after five years, Marcel is still not used to having it. Peace.
Nobody tells you how unsettling peace is. How it manifests as a constant nagging in the back of your mind, like you're forgetting something, getting soft, letting your guard down. It's quiet and harmonious, yes, but it's also a kind of fear. A cold shudder at the pit of your stomach, as though at any second it can all be snatched away from you.
If he doesn't watch himself, it can easily descend into paranoia.
He doesn't think there has been a single day where he hasn't been on full alert mode, looking over his shoulder, watching over the city from his not-so-new penthouse like a vigilante, waiting for the monsters to come out. And then he remembers that there are no monsters anymore. None greater than him, anyway. He is the thing that everybody fears.
He's always tiptoeing around that delicate line separating caution from madness, one sudden move around a corner away from overreaction that could send all the hard-earned balance they've achieved blown into the air.
One wrong move from turning into him.

-- Took forever and a day, but ta-da! Starting part 4 was so much harder than I thought, but well. Here is something! Like I said, I'm not starting a new AO3 story for this, it'll be [22/34] there, but for the sake of being clearer here, I'm using the S4 numbers and a new summary.
I don't have any art or edit or anything to go with this story, so I just searched my old edits folder and found something that more or less applies, so there you go. :D As always, your comments/kudos/reblogs mean the world to me and I really hope you guys enjoy it! Cheers!

Fic Update: The Wolf III [21/21]
Tumblr media
Summary: Months after their return to New Orleans, Klaus and Caroline try to settle into a semblance of normalcy, while Elijah struggles to forgive his brother's sins. But a mysterious prophecy that foretells the downfall of the Mikaelson family brings them all together in a war that will reopen ancient wounds and see each of the siblings doomed: one by friend, one by foe and one by family.
[It's The Originals Season 3, but Caroline had Klaus' baby, now she's a vampire and they are back in New Orleans after a stint in Mystic Falls. It's mostly about Klaroline, obviously.]
---
S03E21 The Bloody Crown Caroline wakes up from something that doesn't really feel like sleep. It’s as though her brain disconnected and went into a blackout state for a few hours. She doesn't feel well rested, not even close, but there's a soft tingle chasing across her skin that is oddly soothing.
She blinks out the drowsiness and follows the sensation, finds Klaus tracing the arm she has draped across his middle. It's a feathery brush, an absent-minded movement he probably doesn't even notice he's doing, but it still has the power to awaken butterflies in Caroline's stomach. Even after years, she feels it every time he touches her. Fire at the tips of his fingers.
He's facing away from her, staring at the sliver of daylight trickling in through the curtains, his usual dark and devious look replaced by something weary and distant. Caroline watches him for a long time, trying to peer through the mask of impassiveness, past the glacial ice in his eyes. She hates it when he's like this, lost in the corners of his own mind where she can't follow. With Klaus, that always spells trouble. The anger she knows how to deal with. The barks and snarls she can handle. It's the blank stares, the emptiness and the silence that scares her the most.

😃 Two updates in less than a week, and TW3 is over. 😃 Who am I, what am I doing with my life? 😃
There are loads of info on the actual story about how this will continue and some other stuff as well. We have reached the 1M words mark and I can't decide if this is impressive or if I have just completely lost control of my life. Either way, thank you so, so much to everyone who had read my long-ass fic and stayed with me through all of this. 💜 It's a mess, but I have loved living in this universe, and I hope some of you have too. 🥰
A special shout-out to my friend @definedareasofuncertainty, who was holding my hand when I posted the very first chapter, almost five years ago, and who is still somehow my friend. 🥹
I hope you guys enjoy it! And as always, your reblogs/comments/kudos mean the world to me, please support your local insane fic writer. 🥹

Fic Update: The Wolf III [19/21]
Tumblr media
Summary: Months after their return to New Orleans, Klaus and Caroline try to settle into a semblance of normalcy, while Elijah struggles to forgive his brother's sins. But a mysterious prophecy that foretells the downfall of the Mikaelson family brings them all together in a war that will reopen ancient wounds and see each of the siblings doomed: one by friend, one by foe and one by family.

-- S03E19 Where Nothing Stays Buried ✨
In his 200 odd years on this Earth, most of which were spent soaked deep within the supernatural cauldron of New Orleans, Marcel Gerard can safely say he has seen everything.
He has witnessed magic in all of its glorious, beautiful, vicious, terrifying forms. He has seen myths rise and fall across the streets of the Crescent City. He has seen miracles, and he has seen curses. There are no mysteries in the unnatural world that can still surprise Marcel. Or that's what he thought. Because in all his years, he had never felt the French Quarter tremble. Not like that.
Sturdy, robust buildings that have withstood fires, floods and the test of magic and time start to shake as if they are made of twigs and straw. A cacophony of screams sounds like a roar as people swarm the streets in a mad rush, running from the unsteady constructions. No one seems to know exactly where to run to. Everything is shaking. It's like the city is suddenly at the epicenter of a seismic shift. Nowhere feels safe.
For a spine-chilling moment, with glass shattering all around, old wood screeching as it is dangerously pressured and bent by the quake, dust raining down upon his head, Marcel thinks - this is it. Judgement Day has come to settle scores with New Orleans. All those centuries of housing bloodsucking beasts and monsters of all species have finally caught up with the city, and they will all pay the price.
But the odd thing is... He can feel the quake, and yet it doesn't seem like it's coming from underneath him. It's not the earth that's shaking. More like shock waves, traveling through the air, reverberating like sound.
That's when it hits him. He doesn't need his witches to tell him there's nothing natural about that earthquake. He knows magic when he sees it; he knows it even better when he feels it. And a surge of power strong enough to shake New Orleans on its foundations can only have come from one source.
The goddamn Ancestors.
Whatever those assholes are up to, it's big and it's most certainly bad. And he has a feeling he knows exactly where he'll find the answer.

The Wolf Outtake
I wanted to update TW3 this weekend, but next chapter has turned into a monster, so it'll take me a bit more to finish editing. Meanwhile, can I offer you guys a little outtake from TWS03E04?
This goes right at the end of the chapter 4. Some hurt/comfort situation, fluffy moment and all.
Summary: Klaus has a very lonely and grumpy night after Caroline relegates him to the proverbial dog house for his indiscretions at the Strix's masquerade ball, but her concerns for his well-being end up being stronger than her resentment, and the two of them find comfort in each other.
--
No wonder I keep you close ✨
It's astounding how someone physically incapable of feeling fatigue can still get so bloody spent.
Klaus has long abandoned any regular sleeping patterns. He's too restless, too impatient, too paranoid, to actually shut his eyes and disconnect completely for long periods of time. There's always too much to be done, plans to be honed, treasures to be taken, and not enough hours in a day. A few hours here, a couple more there, every other day or so, and he'd be fine.
He blames Caroline for yet another change in paradigm in his life.
Read the full outtake here
If you guys are into these little snippets and outtakes, pls let me know so I can keep working on them and posting some of the ones I already have in the future.
Pls forgive my delayed update, but this writer had a very rough 2 weeks of work and is very tired right now. 🥲 If if you feel so inclined, I could use the incentive! ❤️

Klaroline Fic: Like It's Christmas Again [2/2]
Tumblr media
Summary: As Christmas approaches, Caroline Forbes, a New York-based event planner, is sent to a quaint small town in Virginia to organize their holiday festival. But her plans are momentarily hindered by the presence of Klaus Mikaelson, the Mayor's brother and a grumpy billionaire lacking in holiday spirit, who's in town to close the sale of his family's manor - the charming estate she was hoping to use as a venue.
[AU/AH, Hallmark-movie inspired (I kid you not), Enemies-to-friends-to-lovers Holidays fluffapalooza]
---
Part 2: Jingle All the Way 🎄
"You gave me one condition when you agreed to let us use the manor for the festival," she points out. "All I had to do was make sure that your single and very straightforward condition would be met, and I couldn't even do that. I was sloppy and inefficient and you shouldn't be repaying my lapse with kindness." Klaus laughs, a full, hearty laugh, and Caroline scowls. "It's not funny."
"I'm sorry, sweetheart. That has to be the first time I get complaints for not being an absolute bell-end." He laughs again. Caroline stifles a chuckle on principle. She doesn't want to lose track of her responsibilities again, but it's hard not to give in to the rich sound of his laughter or those annoying dimples cutting deep into his cheeks. It distracts her from her own self-recrimination. "Relax, Caroline," he says lightly. "I suppose it's not the end of the world."
She turns to him like he's an alien. "Really? That's not what it sounded like when you were snapping at Josh and grumbling all day."
"That's just a normal Tuesday for me, love," he dismisses it.
"What if there are TMZ paps on your front door tomorrow?"
He scoffs. "I'm a businessman, not a movie star. I assure you TMZ does not care about what I do for Christmas."
"And if the story makes it back to New York?"
Klaus shrugs. "I'll just have to bite off some heads to remind everyone I'm not to be trifled with. It's not exactly a tragedy. Gives me the perfect excuse to be at my absolute worst."

Drabble: another heart in lonely town
Summary: He moves across his apartment with feline precision, searching. He's had all sorts of intruders over the years, with the most varied sets of intents, but he doesn't think he's ever had one who broke into his place to make tea. He doesn't even keep tea at home, may his English ancestors have mercy on his soul. It's an odd sort of aggression, indeed. But it all makes sense when he finds the explanation for the startling kettle activity asleep in his bedroom. Klaus puts his gun down, tension evaporating from his body in the form of a weary sigh.
He keeps forgetting he told Caroline about the extra key.
[AH!AU with a twist. Klaus is a supernatural detective, Caroline is a spirited police officer who crosses his path. 1.5k of urban fantasy.]
---
Klaus gets home after midnight and a particularly feral encounter with a werewolf and walks a straight line towards the cupboard where he keeps the liquor. When he rented the apartment, one of the selling points, according to the realtor, was its vast storage space. In the seven years Klaus has been living there, the cupboards have remained sorely empty. The only items he consistently stocks up on are alcohol and coffee, and only one of those is adequate to soothe the violent adrenaline rush of a near death experience.
He's rendered momentarily confused when he steps into his kitchen and sees that the kettle is on. In a split-second, battle mode slides right back into place. It hadn't even worn off yet. With one swift move, Klaus draws out his gun. He mentally counts how many wolfsbane-laced bullets he wasted on that tosser tonight, and all the hidden nooks in his apartment where he’s stashed the weapons, stakes and dark objects. One can never be too careful in his line of business. He's found out the hard way that witches' services in this town are not worth their cost. They have the nasty habit of getting in trouble and dropping dead unannounced. He only realizes the protective barriers he had cast around his place are no more when it's too late.
At least vampires can't get in, so that's one less thing to worry about. Most of them, anyway. Marcellus doesn't count.

I got out of bed at 3 am to write this, and it's all Klaus POV. I wasn't drunk.

Really appreciate your kudos, comments, messages and reblogs, if you enjoy this one! :) Especially now that tumblr is being weird(er) with the tags. Hope you guys like it!

Klaroline Drabble: how far i'd go
Tumblr media
[canon compliant, set in tvd season 6. unable to control caroline after she turns her humanity off, stefan reaches out to the only person he can think of for help. 1k.]
"What the bloody hell do you mean you lost her?" Klaus snarls into his phone.
"She left," Stefan replies, exasperation bleeding into his voice. "Drove a stake through Elena's stomach, snapped my neck and just vanished. Even her phone has been disconnected."
Klaus has to fight the proud smile that surges past his annoyance. Now there is something he thoroughly enjoys to hear. Caroline driving a stake through her best friend's body and dashing out of captivity. Ruthless. Brutal. He would oh-so relish this rather shadowy side of her otherwise sunny disposition, if only it hadn't surfaced for all the wrong reasons.

Klaroline Drabble: feel something
Tumblr media
[Part 2 of this drabble here. canon compliant, set in tvd season 6. unable to control caroline after she turns her humanity off, stefan reaches out to the only person he can think of for help. 700 words.]
"Come now, love. Can't I pay a courtesy visit to an old friend? That's what we are, right? Friends." Klaus' lips curve into a wolfish smirk that, as familiar as it is, does not reach the look in his eyes.
If Caroline hadn't been seeing that exact same look in so many of her friends lately, she wouldn't even recognize it for what it is, so misplaced it seems on Klaus.

Fic: The Wolf II
Tumblr media
Summary: The Guerreras' threat still looms over the Mikaelson house as Caroline tries to adapt to life as a vampire, away from her daughter. But an unexpected family reunion makes everything worse, taking away the little peace Klaus, Caroline and Elijah managed to find after the war that nearly broke them. [It's The Originals Season 2, but Caroline was a witch, had Klaus' baby and now she's a vampire. Klaroline, obviously.]
S02E30 I'll Wed You In the Golden Summertime
Caroline is a vision.
Even after such a long time, it still steals Klaus' breath away just how beautiful she is. It's a balm to the eyes, a rush to his heart and a flare of inspiration, all at once.
He sees her standing on her own in the middle of the still empty barn house, inspecting her fine work. A Venus under the gentle golden hue bathing the place. Her hair, tied up in a complicated braid that cascades down one side of her shoulder, catches the light like wheat under the sun. His fingers itch for a pencil. He commits it to memory - every detail, every shadow, color and shade, the way her dress hugs her body - and makes a mental note to put it down on paper as soon as possible. In Caroline, Klaus has truly found his muse.
The fact she's done a terrific job transforming that derelict barn into a decent and elegant venue pales in comparison to how stunning she is.
"You are a true miracle worker," he says casually, approaching her in slow steps.
When Caroline turns to him, his heart lurches happily as he notices she chose to wear the necklace he gave her with her formal outfit. She rarely ever takes it off. Klaus had given her gifts before, even jewelry, pretty things that would look all the more lovely being worn by her. But never as a token of his love, never with any deep underlying meaning to it, not like that necklace. That kind of symbology is so gravely human, therefore not something he'd ever been taken to. The sight of her wearing that necklace, however... It brings a form of comfort to age-old concerns. It's an expression of their commitment, a physical representation of the fact that Caroline Forbes' heart belongs to him - something he's earned, rather than conquered or ransacked. It fills him with an unfamiliar combination of joy and pride.
She is, by far, the greatest, most gratifying triumph of his life. The fact he actually had to work hard for it makes it all the sweeter. Klaus has defeated armies and taken over entire cities and realms more easily than he won Caroline’s heart.
A smile graces her delicate features. "Thank you. I had some Mikaelson influence," she says, pointing towards the large crystal chandeliers above them.
Klaus' lips tweak upwards into an amused grin. He does so enjoy a chandelier. "Very tasteful addition. You can barely tell this is a barn house."
A light frown appears between her eyes, though the curve of her lips is still soft. "What are you doing here? Ric was adamant -"
Klaus cuts her off by humming loudly in mock-contemplation. "I keep trying to think of a single instance where Professor Saltzman's opinion has ever meant anything to me, and somehow I only come up empty."

It happens too fast.
Mikael's hand closes around something and he sends it flying in the air like a dart - not aiming at Klaus, but at Caroline. All she sees is a blur, her reflexes way too slow for her to properly react or move out of the way. Klaus lets go of his stepfather and flashes over to her instead, managing to grab hold of the thing in the nick of time. The pointy end of Papa Tunde's blade is inches away from her face. Caroline gulps down hard, her heart skipping a fearsome beat as she realizes how dangerously close to certain death she was. The way she is, that thing would've finished her in a second.
But there's barely any time for a relieved breath. Mikael takes Klaus' moment of distraction to regain the vantage point, and she hears the terrible sound of bones shattering as he twists Klaus' arm behind his back, snatching the stake out of his grasp. A pained scream that seems to reverberate across Caroline's entire being rips out of Klaus' mouth. This time, the Destroyer wastes no time: he simply aims the stake at Klaus' chest and drives it through his heart.
"NO!" Caroline's desperate holler seems distant even to her own ears, the whole world coming to a grinding stop before her. She can barely feel the scratch of sandpaper in her throat as her voice squeezes out through tight, dry muscles. Klaus' lips part in a muted gasp as he tumbles down, eyes wide with shock and fear as the light in them fades. His skin turns ashen, his veins blackening as he desiccates. "No! No!" she keeps yelling, halfway to a sob. Caroline feels everything drain out of her, all the feeling, the air and the last remains of strength she still possessed, leaving her brittle and cold.
