The man who killed five people at a Louisville, Kentucky, bank in April was motivated by his outrage over the nation’s gun laws, which he considered lax and hoped a bloody rampage of white victims would spur politicians into action, according to a police report released Tuesday that contained excerpts from the killer’s journal.
Connor Sturgeon, 25, gunned down co-workers inside a conference room at Old National Bank on East Main Street on April 10 after he admitted in his journal that he was suffering from mental health issues, was dissatisfied with his job and the direction his life was taking.
Eight others were injured during the shooting, including a responding officer who was struck in the head and critically wounded. Sturgeon fired more than 40 rounds in about eight minutes, according to the report.
"I have decided to make an impact. These people did not deserve to die, but because I was depressed and able to buy [guns], they are gone," Sturgeon wrote in his journal on April 4, according to the report released by the Louisville Police Department.
"Perhaps this is the impact for change – upper class white people dying. I certainly would not have been able to do this were it more difficult to get a gun."
The April 4 journal entry was the same day he purchased an AR-15 rifle for $500 used in the deadly shooting six days later, according to a receipt in the police report. He also bought 120 rounds and four rifle magazines in a process that took about 45 minutes, he said.
Sturgeon noted his surprise at how straightforward it was for him to purchase the weapon, given his mental health struggles.
"OH MY GO THIS IS SO EASY," he wrote in bold. "I knew it would be doable but this is ridiculous."
He went on to ridicule lawmakers, writing how he wanted his actions to galvanize them.
"I know our politicians are solely focused on lining their own pockets, but maybe this will knock some sense into them. If not, good luck."
Sturgeon wrote that "Democrats get rich [by] doing nothing in the name of civility" while they allow Republicans to "do whatever they want to whoever they want."
"A level of corruption that stands directly between us and progress," he wrote.
The report also reveals that investigators found a plan stored in a Notes app in which he wrote, "They won’t listen to words or protests, so let’s see if they hear this."
Sturgeon appeared to reserve his harshest criticism for the National Rifle Association.
"But let us not forget the most important player here," he wrote on April 9. "The one who made all this possible. [Let's] give it up for the NRA!!"
"I couldn’t have done this without all of your lobbying dollars! You really brought this whole thing together. This is the world you are building. One without any regard for the value of human life."
In Kentucky, Sturgeon faced no barriers to entry as a gun owner since he had no prior criminal record, which means he would have passed the federally required background check, according to the Washington Post.
The state does not have a "red flag" law, a measure to prevent people who are reported to be potentially dangerous from buying and possessing guns.
Nevertheless, such a law may not have prevented Sturgeon from buying the weapon because his mental health struggles had not been reported to authorities.
Sturgeon’s family has said they intend to sue the maker of the rifle used in the attack.
The report also contained a picture of Sturgeon taking a selfie on April 5 that showed him making a "joker face," which authorities say is a trend popular on social media.
Authorities say they have closed the investigation into Sturgeon’s actions.
He was shot dead by police later that day, and investigators determined that the actions of the officer who shot Sturgeon were not criminal.
The five employees killed were Joshua Barrick, 40, a senior vice president; Deana Eckert, 57, an executive administrative officer; Thomas Elliott, 63, also a senior vice president; Juliana Farmer, 45, a loan analyst; and Jim Tutt Jr., 64, a commercial real estate market executive. Elliott was a close personal friend of Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear. Of the five victims, only Farmer was black.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz proposed a solution to school shootings: Stationing as many armed police officers in schools as there are in banks. Less than two weeks later, a shooter in Kentucky opened fire at a bank, killing at least five people and injuring eight others.
"You know, when you go to the bank, and you deposit money in the bank, there are armed police officers at the bank. Why? Because we want to protect the money we save. Why on earth do we protect a stupid deposit more than our children?" Cruz said on March 30.
"We have an opportunity right now to double the police officers on campus and keep kids safe," Cruz added.
He reiterated the sentiment in a tweet on March 31.
Tumblr media
Cruz's proposed bill on school safety, which he has been pushing for months, was blocked in the Senate on March 30.
The Senator's insistence that banks are a paragon of safety and security came just days before a 25-year-old bank employee opened fire on his colleagues.
Cruz has, in the past, made widely panned suggestions on how to stop gun violence.
After the Uvalde school shooting, where a shooter killed 21 people, Cruz floated a bizarre idea for preventing school shootings: Having a "single point of entry" in schools.
"Fire exits should only open out. At that single point of entry, we should have multiple armed police officers or, if need be, military veterans trained to provide security and keep our children safe," Cruz said in an interview with Fox News, published on May 27.
Cruz was also booed at a September festival in Austin after his comments on gun legislation. At the festival, Cruz suggested that violence "is actually the only thing" that helps stop violence — a common, right-wing talking point often trotted out by the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Cruz is also an NRA-friendly GOP politician. Days after the Uvalde shooting, Cruz refused to cancel his appearance at the organization's leadership conference in Houston. Justifying his decision, he told CBS News that the NRA "stands up for your rights, stands up for my rights, and stands up for the rights of every American."
Texas has the highest firearm mortality rate of any state — 4,164 firearm-related deaths in 2020 — per statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Representatives for Cruz did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment sent outside regular business hours.

White Terrorist Connor Sturgeon Livestreamed His Terror Attack At The Old National Bank In Louisville Kentucky
I guess VDARE, Stormfront, Alex Jones and the rest don’t want this to get out. They enjoy painting Blacks as “savages”. Show me the last time a Black person committed a mass shooting at a bank, church, or supermarket. You can’t! This guy went off the deep end and there are plenty more where he came from. As NRA Republicans might put it: Another Thoughts and Prayers Situation.
Five people died when an employee opened fire in a bank in Louisville, Kentucky, and livestreamed the attack on Instagram, police say.
The victims were aged between 40 and 64. Among nine others injured was a rookie police officer who graduated to the force just two weeks ago.
The officer was struck in the head and is still critical after brain surgery.
Police responded within three minutes, and fatally shot the attacker in an exchange of gunfire.
The shooting took place at the Old National Bank in the city centre at about 08:30 local time (12:30 GMT).
One of those murdered was a friend and backer of Kentucky’s Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said an "incredible friend" of his, Tommy Elliot, a senior vice-president at the bank, was among the victims.
"Tommy Elliott helped me build my law career, helped me become governor, gave me advice on being a good dad," said Mr Beshear.
Louisville’s mayor survived an assassination attempt last year.
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg called the attack "an evil act of targeted violence" and noted that he was also the victim of a recent gun attack.
Last year he was shot at by a mentally disturbed man who had burst into his campaign office.
The shooter in Monday’s attack was typical of a majority of such mass shootings, a white male under 30 with an assault rifle.
The suspect was named as 25-year-old Connor Sturgeon, who police said used an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle during the incident and was broadcasting the shooting online.
Kentucky, the state where Monday’s shooting occurred, is home to assault rifle fetishist Rep. Thomas Massie (KY-04) who sent out this Christmas card right after a mass shooting in 2021.
Tumblr media
Maybe we should start referring to mass shootings as Massie shootings. If NRA Republicans like being associated with assault weapons, let’s give them full credit for use of such weapons.

America's Infatuation With Mass Shootings
infatuation is best described as an intense passion, or admiration, for something. In this case, the 2nd Amendment's controversial right to bear arms.
According to an article I recently encountered, the Associated Press and USA Today, in conjunction with Northeastern University, reported there have been 2,842 citizens of the United States that have been murdered in mass shootings since 2006.
This AP/USA Today statistic demonstrates these horrific events are currently happening on an average pace of every 6.53 days, that makes them take place about once a week. I wonder have they not penetrated the American psyche yet?
A particular reason 2023 stands out compared to other years since data has been compiled on mass shootings is approximately one-third of the way through the calendar year there have been 17 of these nightmares that have occurred.
In half of the years since statistics have been maintained on the subject of mass shootings (2006 to 2023), according to the aforementioned AP/USA Today article cited, there have been 30 or fewer mass killings that took place each year.
In 2023 mass shootings have occurred over a period of about 111 days, give or take a few, and ended 88 lives that can never be returned. These numbers place the United States on a record pace for mass killings. Don't get me wrong, because I believe each lost life snuffed out in mass shootings is indeed a tragedy.
Let's examine some of the 2023 mass shootings that have occurred.
-January 23, at Half Moon Bay, 7 farmworkers were killed in Northern California over a workplace grudge
-April 15, dancers at the Mahogany Masterpiece Dance Studio outside Los Angeles, California were massacred as they celebrated the Lunar New Year
-March 27, six children at the Covenant School, in the Green Hills neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee. This Commentator resides not too far from this locale. Therefore, this incident hit fairly close to home for moi.
-April 1, at a Sweet 16 celebration in Dadeville, Alabama in which four partiers were killed and 52 others injured
-April 18, in Bowdoin, Maine, committed by a felon just released from prison, who killed four people, including his parents, then opened fire on motorists on Interstate 295 in Yarmouth
-April 10, in Louisville, Kentucky where 5 were killed, and 8 wounded, at the Old National Bank
Is there any wonder this world appears to get crazier with each rising sun?
Can you guess how many states have experienced mass shootings over the years? Google if you desire, but here is the list. It is almost a take your pick situation.
Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Hawaii, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, California, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Indiana, New Jersey, Florida, South Carolina, Louisiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Arkansas, and Tennessee. That is 30 out of 50. Toss in Washington, D.C. for good measure, and it begins to sound similar to a broken record, doesn't it?
Perhaps no one should be surprised by these mass killings, that appear to have become a way of life for the fabric of the United States, and may have made Americans immune to them. Or should people be very much concerned about them? If that is correct, isn't it significantly high time something was done to eliminate their occurrences?

By: Julio Rosas Gun control activist David Hogg accused Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) of being complicit in the death of a friend who was killed in Monday’s shooting at a bank in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. American Politics
I have not talked much about American politics because this site does not appear to be very political, other than Scottish politics. But someone asked a question about what someone else thought about American politics. I replied, but it was a no-nothing reply, and just a reference to what I had done 60 years ago.
There are two biggest problems in American right now.
There are two major problems in this country right now. The first, of course, is Trump. He was so nasty when he ran for president that everyone who was angry about Barack Obama, and the freedom we have given to black people and to people whose sexual references are not strict enough in christianity.
The other is, of course, the National Rifle Association, and the big money they give to conservatives.
We had another mass shooting today in Kentucky. An ex-employee of a bank went in and killed several people and injured others. This is not being seen as a terrorist killing, but we who are in despair over the number of killings that go on everyday in every city in every state are all terrorist killings. We are a country that thrives on war, and conflict, and terrorism.
My theory about why so many children are being killed is because they nuts don't want them to grow up to vote. Possibly because their parents are either liberal, or the wrong colour, or the wrong religion. It has gotten so bad that in Nashville Tennessee, the grade school level kids were walking out of classes to protest. One thing that came out of that was that three state representatives were put up to be voted out. Sadly, it was the two coloured men that got removed, but not the white woman. Very sad, and very much to show how much racism there still is.
There is a theory going around, people like me think is a good possibility is that the far-right Republicans know they are going to lose their party - the Republican party is dying. And what is helping that along is that our young people, those not yet old enough to vote, are very progressive, and these repubs know that when they get old enough to vote, they are going to go liberal, or progressive.
So these crazy repubs in our Congress are going to get rid of as many rights for the people, based on colour, sexual-orientation not hetero, and especially against women, who the very most conservative still believe that women, as in medieval times, are lower than their dogs.
I can tell you that our government is getting so many people filing for passports that they are having a hard time getting them checked and done, and our citizens are having to wait a very long time to get their passports. We the people want to get the hell out of this country. I have no statistics about where they are wanting to move to; probably Europe, Canada, Australia. I myself would move to Scotland were I not elderly, slightly disabled, and poor. I suspect I will be dead in the next 10-15 years. I hope I will stay alive to see this country go back to what we became in the 60s-80s. Stupid, perhaps, but at least safer than we are now.
I don't leave my apartment very often. It is not a good thing because I have been a very social person, as well as working to make things better. But now I am afraid.
So maybe I am not able to explain exactly what the problem is with our citizens, but perhaps this will give some insight into what is going on in our American government.

2 Killed and 5 Injured in Shooting After Graduation Ceremony in Richmond, Virginia, Police Say
Tumblr media
Summary: Two people were killed and five injured in a shooting after a high school graduation ceremony in Richmond, Virginia. The tragedy has left hundreds of people terrified and shocked. The police have apprehended a 19-year-old suspect and plan to file second-degree murder charges against him. This shooting adds to the growing list of communities in the United States that have been affected by gun violence in recent months. The authorities are still uncertain about the motive behind the attack.

Img source: https://media.cnn.com/api/v1/images/stellar/prod/230607002840-01-richmond-va-shooting-060623.jpg Richmond Shaken by Another Act of Gun Violence in a Nation in Crisis An event that was supposed to be a moment of joy and celebration turned into a nightmare in Richmond, Virginia, as a deadly shooting erupted after a high school graduation ceremony. Two individuals lost their lives, and five others were injured, leaving a community terrified and engulfed in grief. Meanwhile, the United States continues to grapple with an alarming number of mass shootings so far this year. In this context, law enforcement has managed to apprehend a 19-year-old suspect and is working to establish charges against him. However, the question on everyone's mind is: What is happening to our society?
Violence Striking Communities Across the Country
The shooting in Richmond adds to the growing list of American communities that have been affected by gun violence in recent months. From a mall in Texas to a school in Tennessee, a bank in Kentucky, and a beach in South Florida, these tragedies have left behind a trail of horror and despair. The fact that significant and cherished events such as a graduation ceremony have now become settings for violent acts is further evidence that no place is safe from this escalating crisis.
Searching for Answers and Justice
As the Richmond community attempts to come to terms with the tragedy, authorities are struggling to understand what motivated this senseless act of violence. While it remains unknown whether the suspect is a student or what drove them to commit this atrocity, interim Police Chief Rick Edwards stated that there appears to be some connection between the assailant and at least one of the victims. Meanwhile, the families of the two deceased individuals and the wounded are facing unimaginable devastation, trying to comprehend how a day filled with hope and joy could turn into a nightmare.
A Call for Unity and Protection
The question resonating in everyone's hearts is: What is happening to our society? It is time for us to come together and confront this issue head-on. No child should fear for their life on such a special day as their graduation, and no community should live under constant fear of gun violence. It is time for effective measures to address this crisis and ensure that our schools, streets, and places of celebration are safe spaces for all. Amidst the sadness and outrage, the Richmond community clings to hope and the promise that this tragedy will not be in vain. We demand justice for the victims and decisive action to prevent future acts of violence. This is a call to our society to rise up and protect its citizens. Richmond should not have witnessed this horror, but now we have the responsibility to ensure it never happens again. Together, we can make it happen. Read the full article
