André Kertész, original name Andor Kohn, (born July 2, 1894, Budapest [Hungary]—died September 28, 1985, New York, New York, U.S.), Hungarian-born American photographer known for his lyrical and formally rigorous pictures of everyday life. La Fourchette, the famous about this  photograph is the strong composition of the picture. It’s secure, stable and solid picture. The picture contains 4 things: the fork, a fork shadow, a bowl, and a bowl shadow. The lighting and the shadow thing are done perfectly which lead to a good photograph without the feeling of any bored or a basic photo and this is mainly because it’s strong composition. The photograph is posted on Prestel Publishing and it was founded in 1924 and with over 500 English titles in print, Prestel Publishing is one of the world's leading publishers in the fields of art, architecture, photography and design.

Un photographe,  une histoire

Kertész Andor, connu comme André Kertész est un photographe hongrois, naturalisé américain et considéré comme l’un des plus influents du genre.

C’est en empruntant à la médiathèque de la ville l’une de ses monographies que j’ai découvert l’œuvre et la vie de cet auteur. Privilégiant l’impact émotionnel sur la technique, il expliquait : « je me promène et j’observe le sujet sous différents angles jusqu’à ce que les éléments de la photo forment une composition qui me plaise ».

Kertész reste surtout connu pour ses contributions au photojournalisme et ses essais photographiques. Il fait preuve d’empathie pour ses sujets, mettant de côté les préjugés sociaux et politiques peu importe la personne photographiée.

Né le 2 juillet 1894 à Budapest en Autriche-Hongrie, il est originaire de la classe moyenne juive. Bien que sa famille s’attend à ce qu’il poursuive une carrière dans les affaires, il finit par s’installer à Paris et découvre sa culture bohème.

Au milieu des années 1920, il rencontre Piet Mondrian, Serguej Michail Eisenstein et la plupart des Dadaïstes. Kertész fuit la France et ses persécutions et émigre aux États-Unis où il travaille pour des magazines comme Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar et House & Gardenet organise des expositions solo à l’Institut d’art de Chicago en 1946 et au MoMA de New York en 1964. Kertész meurt le 25 septembre 1985 à New York.

Quelques anecdotes pour briller en société

Amateur d’ombre et de défis techniques, c’est lui a a réalisé la toute première photo de nuit, et ce en 1914! Oui, il y a un siècle! On vous laisse imaginer le temps de pose pour obtenir une image valable avec le matériel de l’époque…

C’est grâce à Kertész que Brassaï a commencé la photo et c’est un euphémisme de dire que la rencontre (l’influence) fut déterminante : si Brassaï, lui aussi d’origine hongroise, est devenu une référence mondiale, c’est grâce à ses images de Paris by night. Henry Miller le surnomma même « L’oeil de Paris ». Merci qui?

Pendant ses premières années parisiennes, André Kertész tirait un grand nombre de ses photo sur un papier de petit format (9×14 cm) portant la mention «carte postale» préimprimée au verso.

C’était une coutume courante pendant la guerre: les photos du front étaient éditées sous forme de cartes postales pour collecter de l’argent pour les veuves et les orphelins. Kertész a du continuer à tirer ses images comme ça pour des raisons pratiques  (Il développait chez lui, dans un labo sommaire) et économiques… mais pas que : ce résultat intimiste, très personnel, ces images conçues pour circuler auprès des proches, c’est tout à fait dans la démarche artistique du cher André, non?

L’alliance réussie du fond et de la forme.
