They would sneak around and meet in secret places, like the abandoned building on the outskirts of town or the park after dark. They would hold hands, talk, and kiss, but they never went too far. They were both afraid of getting caught and didn't want to risk getting in trouble.

One day, they were sitting in the park, watching the sunset when JJ turned to Y/N and said, "I don't want to keep this a secret anymore. I want to tell our friends and be with you openly."

Y/N was surprised but happy at the same time. She had been having the same feelings for JJ but didn't want to ruin their secret relationship.

"I feel the same way," Y/N replied, smiling.

They decided to tell their friends the truth and end the secret relationship. Their friends were surprised but supportive. They were happy for JJ and Y/N and didn't want to get in the way of their happiness.

From that day on, JJ and Y/N were a real couple. They were happy, in love, and grateful that they had each other. They didn't care what anyone else thought because they knew that their love was real.

You felt as though someone had just went into your chest and grabbed your heart, smashing it onto ground time and time again when you heard the four words come out of Rafe's mouth.

He'd said it multiple times before but this time, it felt truly real. All those years of being together, down the drain.

"I can't do this anymore."

After everything he'd put you through, everything he did for you, he's just going to walk away? Leave you by yourself?

You knew that you and Rafe's relationship wasn't endgame but you thought he would stay a little longer. You didn't know that Rafe was going to leave this easily. You didn't know how he could, after what you did for him.

You couldn't even mutter a word as he stood up and left your room, walking away from you and now, your relationship again. You sat there for a couple seconds before comprehending what had just happened and then you cried. You cried for days and days, you couldn't even smile once.

Sarah had done everything she could to make you feel better. She wasn't your closest friend but she knew how much Rafe meant to you and since she'd introduced you two, she couldn't help but feel guilty.

You couldn't get out of bed for days and when you'd seen Topper posted a new picture with Rafe and a new girl, you broke down for the second time that week. He breaks up with you and gets with another girl not even a week later?

You and Rafe had been together for a while now. You've been on and off since freshman year but he never brought another girl into the picture ever. When you saw that picture, your world had truly come crashing down.

You tried convincing yourself that this was just one of you and Rafe's off period but this time, it felt truly real.

It was hard getting used to the fact there wasn't "Rafe and I" anymore. It's always been Rafe and you, always. Ever since you were kids, you were tied at the hip. Best friends to lovers, a cliche. But that storybook dream had come crashing down once Rafe had enough.

He couldn't handle the drama, the rumors. He didn't want to fix it with you, he wanted to leave. You couldn't even blame him because you've thought it, too. It was too hard for Rafe. He had enough on his plate already.

He didn't want to fight for you anymore. He just couldn't; you weren't worth it anymore.

It was hard to accept it but you did. You found a new boy easily and he almost made you feel the way Rafe did. You settled for him; no one would ever measure up to Rafe.

You compared him to Rafe. You knew that was selfish, but it was the truth. He could never make you laugh like he did. He could never kiss you, touch you, comforted you like Rafe.

He was perfect but he wasn't Rafe. No one could be Rafe and maybe that was a good thing but didn't feel right to live without Rafe.

You were at the beach, smoking a blunt trying to calm yourself. You'd just had another anxiety attack about going to college and leaving OBX. That'd always been your biggest fear and dream, leaving OBX to find yourself on your own in college.

You were leaving tomorrow morning and you were all ready and packed. The only thing that felt wrong was leaving without saying goodbye to Rafe. It'd been two years but you still thought of him. Not as often as you used to, but you still did. How could you just forget him? He was your first love.

You had a nice boyfriend and you felt like you were cheating every time you look at Rafe's instagram once in a while. You heard footsteps behind you and you looked behind you, your eyes widening.

It felt like the universe was truly listening to you.

Rafe Cameron, the boy who broke your heart at the ripe age of 16 was standing behind you, buzzcut and all. He looked so much more mature than he did a few years ago but he still had that boyish look in his eye, the one that you always admired.

His clothes were wet and face bruised, he was standing behind you. All the memories had come rushing back into your mind once you laid your eyes on his face.

"I-I went to your house and you weren't there." His voice was shaking. You noticed the smell of alcohol reeking from his clothes and the familiar white powder under his nose. "I wanted to talk to you."

"What?" You didn't mean your voice to come out so aggressive and emotional but it did. He took a seat next to you on the sand and he was so close you could smell his signature cologne he loved so much. It was your favorite smell of his.

He sighed. "I'm sorry."

Your face morphed into an angry one. "For what, Rafe? Breaking my heart?"

He nodded. He couldn't even meet your gaze as he looked straight into the sea. "Do you want to know why I left?"

If this was a few years, maybe even months ago, you would've said yes. You did care but you couldn't hear what you did wrong now. It would drag you back into a terrible place. "No."

He ignored your response, continuing. "My dad said you were too good for me. He said that you would realize that you deserved better and break up with me and it humiliate me so I had to do it first. That or marriage to tie you down."

You weren't ready for his confession. You didn't know how to feel; do you feel guilty? Sick?

He looked back at you. "I loved you. I did it for you."

You let out an exhale, looking back at him then on the sand. Everything made sense now. "Oh, Rafe."

"I love you." He whispered. "I realized now that I couldn't move on without telling you. You're... you're the only fucking nice thing I've ever had, and I wanted to tell you. When I heard from Top that you were leaving tomorrow, I just had to.. tell you."

You put your hand over his and you both looked into each other's eyes for the first time tonight. You leaned in and pressed a small kiss to his cheek.

"I'm proud of you, Y/N."

You felt a tear roll down your cheek and his gaze softened, wiping it as you sniffled.

One afternoon, Y/N had left for work as usual and I had decided to spend the day working from home. As I was typing on my laptop, I heard a knock on the door. I opened it to find Kiara standing there looking upset.

"What's wrong, Kiara?" I asked concerned.

Without hesitating, Kiara burst into tears and confessed her love to me. She told me that she had been hiding her feelings for me for a long time and couldn't keep them to herself any longer.

I was surprised by her confession, I have a girlfriend that I love very much.

Kiara suddenly kissed me; passionately and I found myself lost in her embrace. It was as if time stood still as we shared this moment. However, our kiss was cut short when we heard the sound y/n.

“What the fuck.”

"Y/n, it's not what it looks like." I stammered, I love y/n way too much for her to leave.

"Really? So, what is it then? You were just having a friendly make-out session with Kiara in our living room?" Y/n lashed out, the hurt and anger boiling inside her. "I can't believe this is happening," she said quietly.

Kiara apologized to Y/N, saying that she didn't mean to hurt her.

Y/N realized the depth of JJ's remorse when he showed up at her doorstep, pleading and begging her to take him back.

"She kissed me, I swear," JJ pleaded, tears streaming down his face.

"JJ, you kissed her back," Y/N sighed, her face twisted with a frown.

"I didn't know what I was doing. It just happened. I know it seemed like we were at it for ages but it was only five seconds tops. The second I realized she kissed me, I pulled away," JJ cried. "Please, baby. I love you."

It took some time for Y/n to trust JJ fully again, but with time, they were able to overcome this rough patch in their relationship. They worked on their communication, made time for each other, and promised to always be open and honest with each other.

In the end, JJ and Y/n's relationship became stronger and more resilient because of what they went through. They learned that mistakes happen, but if they love each other enough, they can overcome them.
