The discursive ultra-misandry that was so popular on social media circa 2014 (remember #KillAllMen?) is happily out of fashion, but the anger at men underlying it – which, by the way, was never ironic – has had no material reason to dissipate. With men like Trump and Brett Kavanaugh in the highest offices of the United States government and judiciary, women of all classes right now are righteously filled with rage, disappointment, betrayal and disgust. Nevertheless – as Rooney captures well – the reason that sharing life with men feels like slow violence is ultimately not the men themselves (not in many cases, at least) but, rather, the hierarchies that, flowing through us all, elevate them and suffocate us. The repudiation of ‘sleeping with the enemy’ enacted by some feminists in the 1970s was and remains widely and rightly derided. Rarely, however, do contemporary feminists acknowledge that a lot of sex is experienced as making a gift of oneself to one’s oppressor, despite how nice and love-worthy the guy in question is or isn’t. Rarely do we talk about ‘political lesbianism’ as a poor strategy founded on a factual albeit ‘dramatic’ assessment of heterosex under patriarchy (as perilous for women’s spiritual health). To expand on this just a bit...

[1] I don't know about other people's experiences, but from my point of observation, the kind of woman that owns a gun is less likely to be the kind of woman that hates men.

The whole "#killallmen" thing is based on two ideas:

women have no power, and therefore cannot actually hurt men

morally, men should be treated collectively as a group, and therefore if any man were to somehow get hurt, he would deserve it due to the actions of other men

To take the gun into your hands is to accept that you have the power to do violence.

Most male suicides have little to do with "mental health" or "men refusing to talk or express their emotions." They're the end result of practical and particularly societal problems that he's helpless to overcome. An ex who alienates him from his children. Losing the job he's worked at for 15 years when the company sends all the jobs overseas. Crippling debt he can't get out from under.

The problem isn't men talking. It's not being heard. Finding sociopathic vipers with #MaleTears and #KillAllMen mugs sniggering and rambling incoherently about "male privilege" and "the patriarchy." Or worse, a therapist who has been ideologically compromised scolding him about the same things. And charging him for it.

The problem is also society not caring to change anything. Default equal parenting laws consistently being opposed by activists. A false accusation of domestic or sexual abuse being standard operating procedure in divorces. Things that could be changed, but activists refuse to give up their special entitlements.

So, how will this suicide trend change when society seems to have decided it's happy with it and the reasons why?

A little unrelated, but how long do you think before Tumblr sadly forgets this? Because man does place love to treat important events as trends, grossly enough.

The ignoring or outright denial of the sexual violence that occurred on 10/7 by the various women's right's and advocacy groups, groups dedicated to supporting victims.

That was one of the least shocking things that occurred in the aftermath.

As it stands currently the hamass fighters that were involved in that aren't human, or weren't when they were doing it at a minimum.

As for how long until tumblr forgets this...

on a large scale few months after it's all over, but there's enough people that will never forget the way this situation was treated, and people that bandwagoned on the 'hate Israel' 'I'm not Antisemitic just Anti-zionist' train without doing a moments research will likely be getting reminded about it for years to come.

Which will be a reminder for some to do better in the future hopefully.
