I've been thinking about this and it seems the obvious implication is that this is the first family portrait they've had taken since Adora (or this show's equivalent given the rights issues) went missing. That's why everyone looks so tense and dour. The empty space was done on purpose to show that the family isn't whole, and out of universe also serves to visually separate Keldor from the rest of the family, foreshadowing his attempted coup.

I also have a headcanon that Adora was Keldor's favorite, and that her kidnapping contributed to his feeling Randor wasn't a fit ruler. This would never have happened if HE was in charge! That's neither here nor there, though.

I had this musing for an AU for Prince Keldor where he has Henry VIII type problems like the wife gives birth to like, four daughters, and King Miro just gives up waiting and makes Randor his successor.

Stuff like this occurs to me because I'm really interested in how tweaking a variable or two affects subsequent happenings like ripples in a pond.

Does Keldor turn into an abusive tyrant like Henry VIII before vanishing to become Skeletor or does he remain kind to his wife until he disappears?

Just stuff I think about when I'm bored.

Ok just noticed something interesting in this He Man guidebook for the CGI series- Keldor is older than Randor according to this one page? Whatt??! I though Randor was older in this show for some reason… that’s weird. In Keldor’s page it says nothing about him being older. I just assumed that Keldor was younger in this one, now I’m like kinda more curious.

Here's King Randor and Queen Marlena.

I've stated before that I prefer the Keldor backstory for Skeletor, and well, that includes his half-brother Randor here. I like the idea of them being close when they were young, but crud happened that drove a wedge between them. Randor does try to be a better king for his people than what they had throughout Eternia's history (since in this AU... the Grayskull line kinda went downhill after that one king getting drunk on Havoc).

And I like Marlena's story of being an Earth astronaut that crash-landed on Eternia, one thing led to another, and now she's queen. It took a bit of adjusting for her to really appreciate Eternia, because sometimes the homesickness can hit you hard, but she does love her family and new home.

Randor is extremely overprotective of Catra, Adora, and Finn. This is due to him believing he failed his brother Keldor, who was half-gar and faced discrimination for it, by not standing up for him. He overcompensates by going off on anyone who questions Catra and Adora's relationship or Finn's legitimacy in the royal family.
