On This Day In Royal History . 2 June 1420 . King Henry V married Catherine of Valois . . ◼ Henry V had been king for seven years when he married Catherine of Valois, daughter of King Charles VI of France. . ▪️ On 2 June 1420, Henry married Catherine at the Parish Church of St John or at Troyes Cathedral. . ◼ It was a supremely triumphant affair, attended by nobles & royalty from both England & France, & King James I of Scotland, a long-term but honoured prisoner in England, was also present. . ◼ Henry, now aged thirty-two, was at the height of his popularity & the coronation of his attractive nineteen year old queen was a cause for great rejoicing. A contemporary French chronicler, Enguerrand de Monstrelet, remarked that from the time that Catherine arrived at Dover ‘she was received as if she had been an angel of God.’ . ◼ Catherine gave birth to a son named Henry (later King Henry VI of England) on 6 December 1421 at Windsor. Her husband never saw their child. During the siege of Meaux, he became sick with dysentery & died on 31 August 1422, just before his 36th birthday. . ◼ Catherine was not quite 21 & was left a queen dowager. Charles VI died a couple of months after Henry V, making the young Henry VI king of England & English-occupied northern France. Catherine doted on her son during his early childhood. . . . #OnThisDayInHistory #ThisDayInHistory #TheYear1420 #d2jun #RoyalWedding #HenryV #KingHenryV #HenryVofEngland #KingHenryVofEngland #CatherineofValoise #History #HouseofPlantagenet #HouseofLancaster #EnglishMonarchy #OTD #BritishMonarchy #Historyfacts #Instahistory #Royalhistory #Wedding #Medieval #Weddingceremony #Troyes #France #Historyfacts (at Troyes, France) https://www.instagram.com/p/CA8WyyyjDo1/?igshid=1rvpmymg60h83

Loki raised an eyebrow at the familiar looking man and leant forward to cover the other man's lips with his own, before pulling away and grinning. "Good day to you"

On This Day In History . 20 March 1413 . King Henry V accession. . ◼ After his father, Henry IV died on 20 March 1413, Henry V succeeded him & was crowned on 9 April 1413 at Westminster Abbey. The ceremony was marked by a terrible snowstorm, but the common people were undecided as to whether it was a good or bad omen. . ◼ Henry was described as having been “very tall (6ft 3 in), slim, with dark hair cropped in a ring above the ears, & clean-shaven”. His complexion was ruddy, the face lean with a prominent & pointed nose. Depending on his mood, his eyes “flashed from the mildness of a dove’s to the brilliance of a lion’s”. . . 👑 HENRY V (b.16 September 1386/1387, Monmouth Castle – d.31 August 1422, France) was King of England from 1413 until his death at the age of either 34 or 35 in 1422. He was the second English monarch who came from the House of Lancaster. . ◼ After military experience fighting the Welsh during the revolt of Owain Glyn Dwr, & against the powerful aristocratic Percys of Northumberland at the Battle of Shrewsbury, Henry came into political conflict with his father, whose health was increasingly precarious from 1405 onward. . ◼ After his father’s death in 1413, Henry assumed control of the country & embarked on war with France in the ongoing Hundred Years’ War (1337–1453) between the two nations. His military successes culminated in his famous victory at the Battle of Agincourt (1415) & saw him come close to conquering France. . ◼ After months of negotiation with Charles VI of France, the Treaty of Troyes (1420) recognized Henry V as regent & heir-apparent to the French throne, & he was subsequently married to Charles’s daughter, Catherine of Valois (1401–37). . ◼ Following Henry V’s sudden & unexpected death in France two years later, he was succeeded by his infant son, who reigned as Henry VI (1422–61, 1470–71) . . . #Onthisdayinhistory #Thisdayinhistory #TheYear1413 #Accession #KingofEngland #HenryV #KingHenryV #HouseofLancaster #BattleofAgincourt #EnglishMonarchy #BritishMonarchy #d20mar #kinghenryvofengland #Plantagenet #Plantagenets #Medieval #medievaltimes #RoyalHistory #Onthisday #otd #Englishhistory #royalfamily #history (at England) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9-SjiKA_9U/?igshid=fep2bds1nit2

On This Day In Royal History . 21 July 1403 . The Battle of Shrewsbury; . ◼ The Battle of Shrewsbury was a battle fought on 21 July 1403, waged between an army led by the Lancastrian King Henry IV & a rebel army led by Henry "Harry Hotspur" Percy from Northumberland. The battle, the first in which English archers fought each other on English soil, demonstrated the effectiveness of the longbow & ended the Percy challenge to King Henry IV of England. . ◼ Part of the fighting is believed to have taken place at what is now Battlefield, Shropshire, England, three miles north of the centre of Shrewsbury. It is marked today by Battlefield Church and Battlefield Heritage Park. . ◼ During the battle, Henry V then a sixteen-year-old prince was almost killed by an arrow that became stuck in his face. An ordinary soldier might have died from such a wound, but Henry had the benefit of the best possible care. . ◼ Over a period of several days, John Bradmore, the royal physician, treated the wound with honey to act as an antiseptic, crafted a tool to screw into the broken arrow shaft & thus extract the arrow without doing further damage, & then flushed the wound with alcohol. . ◼ The operation was successful, but it left Henry with permanent scars, evidence of his experience in battle. . . . #Onthisday #onthisdayinhistory #thisdayinhistory #Theyear1403 #KingofEngland #HenryV #KingHenryV #HouseofLancaster #BattleofAgincourt #EnglishMonarchy #BritishMonarchy #d21jul #kinghenryvofengland #BattleofShrewsbury #HenryIV #Kinghenryiv #Instahistory #Royalhistory #England #medieval #Longbow #Lancastrian #Lancastrians #Historic #battlefield #Shrewsbury (at England) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0MbBTpAi5v/?igshid=8yb45m9y5pbn
