Hi darling! Thanks so much for checking up on me. Unfortunately I'm not doing well. Not for the whole shit that went down yesterday, I couldn't care less tbh; I did as much as I could to make up and the user still tried to blame me for her mental health issues, saying that I made it on purpose so she could get hate etc... Still, I got messaged by a friend of hers yesterday with a text wall that I didn't bother reading and I've received two weird kind messages asking me to put more posts out to apologize and shit? Dunno blocking ppl is the way tho!

Problem is, turns out depression + long covid is the worst mix. I'm basically sleeping all my day away and I'm not enjoying anything any more. Even my meds couldn't knock me out tonight. I haven't been going out for months now bc I moved back with my parents and I have nobody to hang out with. So... I just have videogames, tv shows and music to keep me company.

I should start studying again... but since I can't really wake up it's a bit hard. Maybe I should study at night to get something done, but I still feel like a failure and that I'm letting down so many people. I wish I could also go back to writing and making gifs, but I lack the energy to do anything of the sort.

On the bright side I bought some new clothes from EMP. Never gonna buy there again tho, the size, the shape and the colors are all messed up!

1) Chappell Roan’s Casual is part of her new album which is to release “Rise and Fall of a Midwestern Princess” its such a raw and fun piece which ai highly recommend!

2) Infinity on High by Fall Out Boy hosts some of my fave songs like Bang the Doldrums and GISNAFS!

3) Panic at The Disco - Live in Denver is the best way to listen to my fave PATD Album AFYCSO! Ryan’s vocals are stunning!

4) Save Rock and Roll is an icon and Phoenix is my go to hype song!

HELP i bet they saw posts on subtle asian traits and were like haha yeah! abcs abgs bbt uwu! i understand the east asian diaspora movement!

jokes aside, my roommates and i were the only asians there and everyone else was white and there was this? group? or maybe multiple groups? that kept laughing every time mandarin was spoken or there was a scene with emotional gravitas and people's chinese accents peeked through :/ like obviously the movie wasn't perfect and it had tropes/stereotypes that pissed me off (what do i expect from the same multibillion dollar company that brought mulan 2020..) and sure the subtitles made the translations pretty cringe but!! it's a movie that has so much heart!!! and idk why you'd even want to poke fun. or why one would see a movie with a chinese cast if they were just going to mock it.

despite its shortcomings tho it had SO many good things in terms of representation, and i was pleasantly surprised? like i did not see the whole Banana™ experience coming?? i actually teared up a couple times at the whole "you are still a product of your family" theme bc Yes i may be disconnected from my culture but i'm still chinese and in general i loved how they made sure to emphasize found family. i'm so curious--and when i'm home i'll look it up--but if the screenwriters/director were white i'll actually cry

NO BUT LET'S TALK ABOUT NOT RECOGNIZING QUEERNESS AND QUEER CODING. My boyfriend didn't catch on to Will being gay either despite so many allusions to it in the show. We also watched Heartstopper, and in the beginning, he thought it was a story about a gay boy and a new straight himbo friend (said friend being the canonical love interest 😭). Like???? Bestie....

SOOOO FASCINATING TO ME!!!!! obviously like. i get it SOMETIMES! like sometimes it is very subtle and you have to Look for it and also know what you're looking for. but? HOW ELSE CAN YOU EXPLAIN WILL IN S4??? it's probably a case of like, the gal pal phenomenon but it's sooo. it just really makes me realize how differently we see the world i guess lol

regarding pale fire and 'storycraft' in fic:

i think to a reader it's immediately clear that there's a sort of 'line' between chapters 1-2 and 3-5. initially, i had wanted to write a silly uni au, but the more i wrote, the more i found really getting into charles' head and going - he's a bit of a little shit. KSDKKFSD

so i wanted that sort of insecurity that you feel in university, but on paper, you know? i wanted the romance without a romance. i wanted them to fall for each other without any real reason to (and hence, no real reason to stay together).

i think i came into this knowing that i wanted to write something incredibly grounded with real life, so naturally i wrote based off of my experiences (don't worry, my ex did not pull an Oliver from CMBYN) and i wanted the writing to flow as realistically and as human as possible.

that's my approach on writing as a whole, i think. i'm interested in human realism and grounded relations and making them almost cinematic? (although i'm currently working as a fantasy writer!) and i'm most interested in making the mundane feel ALIVE. in pale fire, that's why you have george walking in with his stack of plates, only for him to leave awkwardly. that's why you have carlos strumming a guitar while his friends look at each other awkwardly.

regarding my other works - i will say that i have these planned:

- a sebmark/martian SIDEWAYS (2004) AU

- a maxiel noir

- a sebmark (mark pov) YEAR OF REST AND RELAXATION AU

- a sebchal farm AU

in fic, i think i definitely lean on borrowing lots of material from original works! those are the ones i find easiest to write, as well. in my professional writing/original fiction, definitely less so, mainly bc i'm worried about copyright LKSKKSAKSA :| but with fic it's just fun to play with a bunch of different concepts!

i definitely approach fic as a way to exercise my creative chops, so despite all of what i just said, i don't take it too seriously! (serious stuff is reserved for lit mag subs. thats another conversation for another day) and i feel like you should approach fic with this sort of mindset as well. you can't be too serious about it, lest you sort of lose your mind.

don't worry about stats, because your work will speak for itself, is what i'm trying to say!
