I built her in the beginning of 2021, back then GPUs were a pain to get still. Again, fell in love with her the moment I put everything in place and started getting shaky when the time to manage the cables came. So yeah, that's why it's a bit messy. Who cares, she's so cute.

mind meandering and blame

I am quick to try to shift blame onto That Guy, and I do think it’s as a response to decades of him doing it to me, which is no excuse, but an explanation. And also as a means to keep reminding myself that his treatment of our son and me legitimately is abuse, the good times don’t negate the bad. That’s still not fair, exactly, and I need to make sure that I am CERTAIN before blaming him.

I also need to consider why, exactly, anyone needs to be to blame at all.

I was blaming him for getting a new computer taking a LOT longer than it needed to because he assumed he knew everything there was to know and in that assumption made mistakes.

Why did that annoy me so much? Because he does it ALL THE TIME and never apologizes when proven wrong after treating everyone around him horribly in the process of coming to that conclusion.

Because of those mistakes, instead of having the issue resolved in a day or two, it’s been a couple weeks and a lot of emotional disturbance because he didn’t know everything, can’t handle things not going his way, and took that frustration out on me, the closest person in yelling distance and to him the cause of the frustration.

And then I was like well, that’s also my mistake for assuming he knew, believing him when he said he does (a mistake I make with him over and over and you’d think I’d learn), and also for letting someone else take control of a situation that I personally wasn’t very educated about. Can I really place the blame on someone else when I’m the one that let them take the reins?

Though that’s not 100% accurate, either, because I did jump in and do my own research before ordering, I did research after discovering a problem, I ARGUED with him when his assumptions didn’t match my research, and while I didn’t come to it via the correct diagnosis (the RAM was not damaged as I thought), I did come to the correct solution (not yet proven, so this may change) almost immediately (buy different RAM).

If I’d been listened to sooner, we could have progressed much more quickly. And I do not at all take the blame for him lying and talking in circles, or the way he yelled at me IT’S NOT THE RAM while also closely examining the RAM to see if there WAS visible damage somewhere.

Almost amusingly, I think we both discovered the answer to the problem at the same time. He was sitting over my shoulder while I was researching and selecting new RAM and we both pointed out this:

I think the system tried to push too much power through when two sticks were installed, the sticks couldn’t handle it, and it didn’t work. But with one, it’s fine because the system doesn’t try to amp up the power for a single stick. Maybe it maxes the electricity fed to the first one before moving through to the second slot?

We’ll find out later today whether or not the second slot is actually faulty, assuming the sticks I ordered arrive functional.
