It's been a while since I read a comedy with a male yandere, but this one was a pretty fun one to read. It runs on a very silly gimmick but I think it's done in a sort of absurd way that makes it fun to read. Do be warned, there is quite a bit of fanservice for the girl ( a lot of it is the male lead's imagination), so it's gonna be a bit of panty shots and boobs. As of writing this, there are 20 chapters translated online, though I believe the entire thing is translated in physical copy volumes.

The story is about Aoi Nemo, head of one of the most important medical companies in the world. He's incredibly smart, famous and charismatic. He falls for a girl named Akaumi Kiruru who, after using connections, finds out that she's an hitman. Because he's kind of weird and probably too awkward to ask her out, he decides the best course of action is to hire her to assassinate him. He's delusional in believing that these assassination attempts are "dates" and is delighted in the fact that she's only thinking about him. He has a lot of precautions to make sure he's able to survive all of Kiruru's assassinations including watches that monitor air level, having a thin suit made out of carbon microfibers to prevent him from being stabbed and a suitcase of antidotes to counter poisons amongst a lot of other things. Akaumi Kiruru is pretty annoyed at Nemo considering he seems impossible to kill and that she needs him to die for her to get her debut as a hitman, however, continues to diligently try as many methods as possible to kill him. The general flow of the story is that Kiruru tries an attempt to kill Nemo, Nemo is ecstatic and because of his wealth and smarts is able to survive and Kiruru wonders how this guy is basically unkillable. They add other elements as well such as other members of the hitman group attempting to kill Kiruru as well as a possible female yandere and Kiruru does eventually get feelings for her target Nemo.

Nemo as a yandere is pretty delusional. Considering he only met Kiruru once before falling for her and then attempted an assassination attempt on himself so that she would only think of him is a pretty strong indicator. He only really thinks about Kiruru and is pretty oblivious to any other girl who is in love with him (much to the secretary's dismay). He also is pretty protective of her as well, since when he found out that one of his collaborators (stakeholders?) groped Kiruru, he immediately bought out the company, humiliated them by showing accusations of sexual asset and further drove their company downwards by using their building to play random videos. He uses quite a lot of money to make sure he survives his "dates" with Kiruru and has a ton of precautions to make sure he stays alive. At one point he does accept having Kiruru kill him, but then realizes if he's dead, he won't be able to do anything romantic for her and continues to try again staying alive. He also has quite a lot of daydreams about her, perverted or otherwise and often wants to collect whatever she's used to assassinate him with to keep as souvenirs.

Kiruru herself isn't too bad of a character as well. There is quite a lot of fanservice on her (which, to me is sort of annoying, but I can bypass it) and her personality is very diligent and optimistic in trying to find different ways to assassinate Nemu since she doesn't want to let her client down. A lot of her coworkers often suggest that she use sexual appeal or flirting to get close to Nemu, which Kiruru refuses to do since she's not experienced and believes that there are other ways to kill Nemu that doesn't involve attempting to seduce him (which is fair and that's what most of her attempts are like). Personally while I think her personality and character is fine, I wasn't the biggest fan of how they chose to represent her.

In any case, it's been a while since I was able to read a yandere story that was able to make me laugh so hard, and if you are interested in Kiruru and Nemo's hijinks, I would highly recommend it.

members of a military science organization, unfortunately this doesnt some of them from being hit with my silly beam. rozeze (biggest keronian in the piece) is a fairly prominent figure in general, taking over krukekes (black bird looking guy next to her; doubles as a father figure of sorts) position as head of kooras. other than krukeke she only has close ties to two other keronians in the picture - rozozo (guy in the visor :-)), her twin brother whom she appreciates very much despite him only merely working in security. and chikuku (the sad ghost), who is her digital assistant of sorts. a pathetic looking but effective one! the rest are simply subordinates to her, but the trio of pazaza/twuwawa/odidi know eachother pretty well (pazaza is the one with maaaany appendages, twuwawa is the fluffy one, odidi is the one in nerdy glasses) with twuwawa and pazaza having worked together before. all three work with keronian body modifications, usually in order to make them better, stronger soldiers a personal favourite is kirutwin:

the fourth kiruru, unsuprisingly dubbed "the twins" is unique in that instead of being banished and trapped on earth, they were killed before that could happen. other than that they were also more intelligent, calculated and cunning compared to other kirurus, which are still in majority seen as mindless machines. and also, worry not! despite the original kirutwin being gone their legacy still somewhat carries on, i wonder how? ;-) honorary mention to kurara:

Want something crazy and out there that really makes the most of its concept? Kiruru Kill Me is definitely at the top of that list. I barely knew the story for this series when I picked up it for cheap through a used listing, but once I picked up the first volume I blasted through the 3 that are currently out (Volume 4 comes out tomorrow!).

So what's the story? Well, to be blunt, Kiruru is an assassin hired to kill the pharmaceutical mogul Aoi Nemo, a certified Bruce Wayne of the medical world in Japan. Unfathomable funds, secretive groups and developments galore. He has everything he wants, good lucks, a great physique, charisma. He has it all except for a girlfriend. One fateful day however, he has a run in with an incredibly beautiful woman, one that immediately sets his heart on fire and has him chasing a ghost for months. That is until, he finds out that this mystery woman is. Using his unfathomable funds (and unfathomable stupidity) to cultivate a relationship with her, he hires her to kill him, that being Aoi Nemo himself.

Yes, that's right, Aoi's dream girl is Kiruru the assassin, and with everything at his disposal he thought the best idea was to hire her to kill him, all so that he could get closer to Kiruru. So starts our game of reverse yandere Cat and Mouse. Kiruru coming up with every idea under the sun to kill Aoi, and Aoi turning himself into an indestructible man so that he can withstand all of Kiruru's "Love".

It is completely unironically, an incredibly fun and engaging read. It leans into it's ridiculousness super well, and the creativity mixed with plausibility of it all keeps you right in the thick of it. It's a concept that you'd think up for something like an old school cartoon style. A back and forth of crazy concepts that tie it all together. Also, did I mention it's a pretty steamy? With adult characters as well. Everyone is a working professional in this story so you can enjoy all it has to offer.

Each date/chapter is well thought out and creative, it follows a "format" so to speak, but it always knows just when to shake it up and flip the script. Surprise meetings, expectation subversion, a new rival, a new angle or revelation, it's got a written arsenal that rivals that of Kiruru's real arsenal.

The characters in general are pretty archetypal, but personally I find that they keep it just the right amount of shallow. Take Kiruru's mentor in the above image. The dude's a perv through and through, but they don't pretend to be anything else. It's a light and shallow character that just adds an angle of comedy to the series. Then there's stuff like Aoi's best friend/right hand man Mori. He's straight laced and plays opposite Aoi's incredibly intense and odd personality, teeing up jokes just as often as he is dishing them out himself. All of the characters here have just the right amount of exposure to not be seen as something incredibly diverse and deep, but avoid being pinned or limited to "shallow" or "cliché" typing.

It all plays into keeping Aoi's assassination at the hands of Kiruru at the front and center, but doesn't rely purely on the thrill of that chase to offer enjoyment. That is to say, it's got range without leaving the box it's placed itself in.

At the end of the day, it's just dumb fun for a mature audience. I wouldn't call it anything amazing, but for what it is it's really enjoyable, really ridiculous, and really interesting.

Plus, Aoi Nemo getting turned on by various assassination attempts is just super funny to me, and the added dialogue via narration is the cherry on top for it.

SEAN: STUFF! Just a whole ton of it. As always.

ASH: Yes, indeed!

ANNA: I’m always amazed.

SEAN: Airship, in print, has I’m in Love with the Villainess 4 and She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man 3, while we get early digital volumes for The Haunted Bookstore – Gateway to a Parallel Universe 2 and The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent 6.

ASH: Which reminds me that I need to read the first volume of The Haunted Bookstore; it seems like a series tailor-made for me.

SEAN: Dark Horse has a 5th volume of their Blade of the Immortal Deluxe series.

ASH: I am absolutely double-dipping for this edition.

SEAN: Ghost Ship debuts The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You (Kimi no Koto ga Dai Dai Dai Dai Daisuki na 100-nin no Kanojo), a Weekly Young Jump series about a guy with horrible romantic karma who now gets 100 soulmates. Unfortunately, he needs to make them ALL happy – or they’ll die!

ASH: I’ve actually heard some pretty good things about this series, so I plan on giving it a try.

SEAN: Ghost Ship also has World’s End Harem: Fantasia 6.

J-Novel Heart has a digital debut, and one I’ve wanted to read (legally) for years. Prison Life is Easy for a Villainess (Konyaku Haki kara Hajimaru Akuyaku Reijou no Kangoku Slow Life) does not involve anyone getting reincarnated into otome games or sent back in time to fix their future. Rachel is perfectly happy with her present, thank you… and happy to sit in prison while she watches her ex-fiance suffer.

ASH: Interesting!

ANNA: This does sound interesting.

SEAN: J-Novel Club also has My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer 3, the 8th manga volume of I Shall Survive Using Potions!, and The Master of Ragnarok & Blesser of Einherjar 19.

Kodansha’s print debut is The Best of Attack on Titan: In Color. It is what it is.

ASH: Huh. I can only assume this is aimed at devotees of the series; seems like it could make a rough entry point for a newcomer.

SEAN: Also in print: Bakemonogatari 12, Blood on the Tracks 8, Eden’s Zero 15, Flying Witch 10, Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan 3, Real Account 15-17, The Seven Deadly Sins Omnibus 2, Star⇄Crossed!! 4 (the final volume), With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun 6, and Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches 25-26. Boat finally make it through the Suez Canal, then?

SEAN: Digitally our debuut is Sakura’s Dedication (Sakura wa Watashi wo Sukisugiru), a shoujo title that’s been in both Betsufure and Palcy (titles move more easily these days). A girl who just broke up with her cheating boyfriend is suddenly confessed to by an earnest young man. Sadly, he’s not her type. But that’s not stopping him from confessing over… and over… and over again. OK, this is just embarrassing!

MICHELLE: Yeah, not sure what to think about this. That behavior is not great.

SEAN: They’ve also got Back When You Called Us Devils 10, Harem Marriage 14, His Extra-Large, Ever-So-Lovely… 2, Living-Room Matsunaga-san 11 (the final volume), Nina the Starry Bride 6, Saving Sweets for After-Hours 2, Space Brothers 40, and Tesla Note 3.

Two new series from Seven Seas. I’m a Wolf, but My Boss is a Sheep! (Ookami Buka-kun to Hitsuji Joushi-san), a Comic Bunch title about a mattress company consisting of all sheep employees… and one lone wolf. He tries to keep to himself, but his boss is so adorable! Gonna be honest, this looks cute.

ASH: It really does.

SEAN: We also get Monologue Woven For You (Kimi ni Tsumugu Bouhaku), a yuri title from Takeshobo about two drama majors whose paths cross. It’s in full color!

ASH: Oh, ho!

ANNA: Is full color manga now a thing?

SEAN: Also from Seven Seas, Creepy Cat 2, Hitomi-chan is Shy With Strangers 3, Kiruru Kill Me 2, The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today 3, and semelparous 2.

ASH: A good week for curious cat manga, then.

Tokyopop has the 2nd volume of Our Not-So-Lonely Planet Travel Guide.

Generally I tend to skip Viz’s digital-only Jump releases, which come out at the end of the month. But the debut this month is one of my favorite current series, WITCH WATCH. The creator did comedy Sket Dance for years, and also Astra: Lost in Space. This new series has a teenage witch move into the house of her childhood friend and ogre, in the hopes of making him her familiar… and perhaps more? It’s hilarious.

ASH: That’s a solid recommendation.

ANNA: I enjoy witchy manga.

SEAN: Yen On has 86–EIGHTY-SIX 9, Banished from the Hero’s Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside 5, The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy 5, I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss 2, Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- 18, and The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat 4.

The debut from Yen Press is From the Red Fog (Akai Kiri no Naka kara), a GFantasy title (attn: Melinda) that can best be described as ‘historical horror’. A young boy who has been kept in a basement for years grows up, leaves and moves into a nursing home. Except… bad things keep trailing after him. And honestly, given that cover art, he looks OK with that.

ASH: I am likewise intrigued!

MELINDA: You called? Oooooohhhhh, you DID call. Okay. Yes. YESSSSSSSSSSSSS. I NEED IT.
