Clarification of February 2021 Crates

Thank you to everyone who has provided feedback about the change to our February 2021 Membership Crates. We’ve put together this additional post to help clarify our featured yarns for February 2021. 

Due to Covid-19 delays with our mills, we have had to change our plan for our Membership Crate yarn shipments. Here are the yarns you can expect with each of our subscriptions for February.

February KnitCrate Membership

In February, members will receive yarn that aligns with our Unwind theme. Sink into cozy comfort with your favorite cup to unwind with this month's selections. Plush pillows and oversized loungewear let our minds and bodies relax into spring.

Important: The option to swap your color vibe has been extended to between January 21-31 for the Unwind crate theme. You will be able to choose your vibe for the February Crates from February 15-28 and those will ship during the month of March.

February KnitCrate Membership Yarns

Unwind with a serene fiber experience with Audine Wools Calm, a DK weight blend of 80% Wool, 10% Silk, and 10% Mohair. This wooly and heathered yarn is 231 yards per skein that will give your projects great stitch definition and structure while having some dreamy drape. Each crate will arrive with two identical skeins to create your next project.

This month, for the first time ever, we have multiple colorways for each color vibe. For the vibe you choose, you will receive two identical skeins of one of the vibe’s featured colorways. All colorways will be available for individual sale during our Double Down sale. If you order multiple crates and would like them to be the same colorway, please email us using the HELP button at the top of our website. While we cannot guaranteed that matching colorways will be sent with multiple crates, we will make every effort to do so.

Energize Me Colorways

Members choosing this vibe will receive 2 matching skeins in one of these three colorways.

Matcha: A taste of something new is waiting to be experienced in this warm shade of green, just like the shades you'll find in loose leaf green tea.

Tranquility: Dreaming of peaceful spring days? This colorway bridges the shadowed greens of winter with the promise of brighter greens in spring with subtle blue tones and a little touch of golden sun that lets us know warmer days are ahead.

Sun Salutation: The rising sun meets mustard tones in this bright yellow that is a day (and project) starter.

Chill Out Colorways

Members choosing this vibe will receive 2 matching skeins in one of these three colorways.

Epiphany: This heather navy does nothing but inspire in the darkest of blue tones in this month's vibe.

Exhale: If we could put the feeling you have when you slip on the perfect pair of denim jeans, it would be this colorway. Not too dark, not too washed out, this medium blue will have you breathing easy.

Reflection: Thinking about the reflections of a clear blue lake, you may pick up hints of sunlight and foliage as you do in this gentle teal shade.

May 2020 Early Preview

Inspired by the coziness of our homes and the desire to learn new things, we’re turning lemons into lemonade - almost literally! This month, we’re giving you a blank canvas to create your own adventure and make a splash in the time we’re spending at home. 

We’ll guide you along the way, taking you as close as we can to the process of sheep to shawl in your own home for your most personalized project of 2020.

Like every other month this year, this crate was curated with a little help from our friends! This month, we've partnered with Rebecca Brown also known as ChemKnits Tutorials on Youtube. She has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology and specializes in applying her scientific training to the fiber arts. We love getting together as a team to watch her fun tutorials and get a behind-the-scenes look at the fiber magic she creates. When we found out our mill closed down for quarantine a few weeks ago and couldn't deliver the yarn we originally had planned out for May since last year, we knew we had to make some changes. With some help from Rebecca and our sister store Dyer Supplier, we put together something special for this month's crates. For the first time ever, we are bringing you a DIY Crate, where you'll learn to dye your own yarn with us! Just wait until you tell your friends that you not only stitched up your project but hand-dyed it too!

During our Early Preview, we only show you the yarn that is coming in the next crate, and not the patterns or extras, so that you can make decisions about changing your color vibe or adding a crate for the new month! KnitCrate Membership

This month, we partnered with our sister company, DyerSupplier to bring a variety of industry standard bare yarns to your crates! Your crate will contain 2 skeins of undyed yarn to act as a blank canvas for you to make your own unique creation. Your crate will come with 2 identical skeins of any of the following bases.

2-Ply Superwash Merino

A classic 2-ply yarn with a bit of air within the spin. Perfect for a wide range of gauges and projects, this fingering weight 100% Superwash Merino yarn measures at approx. 399 yards/ 100g.

75/25 Superwash Merino Nylon

A 75% Superwash Merino 25% Nylon fingering weight blend, durable for any project and soft to the touch. Each skein measures at 415 yards/ 100g.

Nice & Round

This base looks and feels just like the name- nice and round. Ideal for crisp speckles and textured stitch definition, this tightly plied 100% Superwash Merino measures 415 yards/ 100g and is fingering weight.

Merino Singles

Wispy and soft, this singles base is an indie dyer essential and best seller! It is a fingering weight made up of 100% Superwash Merino with 415 yards/ 100g.

Energize Me: Ember

Like a warm campfire or fireworks in the sky, this color combination brings a burst of life to any stash. Each Energize Me Crate will come with 1 orange and 1 cherry packet to create 2 skeins of any of the pictured combinations!

Chill Out: Spritzer

This tart combination can be toned up or down depending on how much dye you use! Each Chill Out Crate will come with 1 grape and 1 cherry packet to create 2 skeins of any of the pictured combinations!

All Natural: Husk

Reminiscent of purple corn and pumpkins, 1 packet of grape and 1 packet of orange come together to create strikingly different colorways! Mix both packets for an unexpectedly natural colorway surprise!

DyerSupplier has filled our Sock Crates with every sock maker’s staple. A soft 80% Superwash Merino Wool, 20% Nylon fingering weight yarn, plied and ready to support those heels and toes! This base is 400 yards/ 100g.

Energize Me: Daiquiri

Blended with bits of undyed, this cherry flavor feels like a refreshing frozen drink by the pool. Each Energize Me Crate will come with 1 cherry packet to create 1 skein of a tonal or speckled sock yarn!

Malabrigo Quarterly Crate (UPDATED!)

April has been quite a month! We appreciate your patience while we completely redesigned this crate with Malabrigo. 

Now...who's ready for a quick peek at what will be inside our May 2020 Malabrigo Partner Crate?

Inspired by our May theme of Blank Canvas, we've partnered with Malabrigo to bring members luscious hand-dyed skeins of Washted, the superwash version of their Worsted Merino base. It features 210 yards (192 meters) per 100 gram skein.

February 2020 Full Reveal

Any fairy tale can come true with the right yarn!!

We’re drifting off with this month’s theme, Once upon a yarn—a candy-coated world where deadlines don’t exist and there’s always more time to cast on for something new.

This year, each of our crates has been made in collaboration with some of your favorite Knit and Crochet influencers!

For February we partnered up with one of our favorite influencers, Glenda, of Creative Grandma.

Glenda launched Creative grandma in 2018 with her daughter. The brand’s goal has always been to connect members of the crochet community through endless inspiration, ideas, and the love of making. The designs and projects that Glenda has created as a professional crochet designer for over 40 years have been long loved by both beginners and experienced crocheters alike.

When planning this month’s Membership offerings, Glenda asked us for something special—something with speckles and a little shine. Audine Wools Shine Sport

This new base is a Sport weight with 80% Superwash Merino, 20% Tencel (350 yd / 320 m, 100 g), $26 USD each. You’ll receive two of the same color in your crate. (pictured from left to right)

Airy and light, this colorway features cobalt, purple, and sky blue on a natural cream background.

All Natural: Sprout

Like seedlings through snow, this yarn features sage, khaki and brown on a snowy cream base.

Energize Me: Flirt

We’re in love with this cream-based yarn with speckles in orchid, pink and orange.

Patterns:

The Knitting pattern is the Sand Dunes Hat & Handwarmers by Pipa Yarns & Knits. It is pictured here in our All Natural color vibe Sprout. The stretchy texture is created using a cable needle, but there are no stitches crossed. Thanks to the stretchiness of the pattern, the hat and hand warmers will fit a wide range of sizes.

The crochet pattern for this month is the Nora Toque & Fingerless Gloves by Carolyn Carleton. She wanted to create a pattern that would add dimension by including a beautifully textured piece. The alpine stitch is fun and, combined with the linen stitch, accent each other very well. Here we have it in our Chill Out color vibe, Sky.

We also have a very special bonus pattern this month designed by Glenda of Creative Grandma. She loved this yarn so much she created a beautiful crochet scarf in our Energize Me color vibe Flirt. The Dreamscape scarf is an excellent scarf with simple elegance for both men and women. This design uses beautifully textured stitches for a unique style. And don’t get us started on that fun fringe!

Sock Membership Crates: 

Audine Wools’ Luxury Sock

With 75% Superwash Merino, 15% Nylon, 10% Cashmere, (400 yd / 365 m, 100 g), this base makes a comeback in one of our softest Sock Crates this year, $28 USD each. You’ll receive a single color of one of these beautifully dyed skeins in your crate.  (From left to right)

An earthy brown that reminds us that spring is ahead!

Patterns:

The Knit pattern for this month was created by Vanessa Ewing with the Cloudchaser Socks shown here in Peat, our All Natural color vibe. Fluffy clouds of lace puff in-between structured arches of twisted stitches. A billowy textural assortment of delightful stitches will keep your toes cozy into the spring!

For the Crochet pattern, we have the Melon Sorbet Socks by Liz Salazar. They are shown here in the Chill Out color vibe, Dew. The perfect combination of puff and post stitches are intermingled with sturdy single crochet to create these soft and fluffy socks that are both beautiful and functional.

Malabrigo Partner Crate:

Who can resist the buttery softness of Malabrigo’s original yarn, Merino Worsted? This 100% Merino Wool comes from South America ready to be made into the most decadent accessories. With 210 yds / 192 m per 100 g skein, we’ve stuffed three into your crate so you‘ll have hours of Malabrigo enjoyment ahead. This month’s colorway is dreamy and soft, inspired by our mood board, and is called Rosalinda.  

Patterns:

First up we have the Chimera Scarf by our very own Joanna Rankin! Is it a scarfed hat, or a behatted scarf? Any way you look at it, this combo is soft, warm, and dreamily cozy—perfect for the coldest of days that winter might throw your way.

For the Crochet pattern, we have the Perihelion Shawl by Karen Whooly Designs.  This shawl is a one-weekend project! Using worsted weight yarn and a simple-to-learn pattern repeat, this shawl will be a go-to pattern for gifts and yourself. Pair it with jeans for a day of shopping or glam it up to keep those shoulders warm on a chilly night on the town. You will want to make this one over and over again!

This month is extra special and features an extra bonus crochet pattern with the Butterfly Shell Infinity Scarf by Claire Golden. This infinity scarf is long enough to wrap twice around your neck, and wide enough to keep you cozy in the cold. The stitch pattern features a column of eyelets and a column of shells with a shell edging that completes it. The sections of the double crochet allow the color of the yarn to shine. 

Starting this month, we will be keeping all of our extras a surprise! The surprise element of our crates was always our favorite part. Now that we show a sneak peek of the color vibes to give you the opportunity to choose your favorite, we lost that fun for a bit but wanted to bring a part of it back! Once you receive your crate, you’ll be able to enjoy your extra and you can see what others received on our Social Media outlets once the crates start to ship before the middle of the month.

June 2019 Sock Membership Crate Reveal

We’re so excited that you are all so excited about our Sock Crates! This crate consistently sells out and we think June will too, so don’t wait to subscribe if you’re tantalized by the goodies shown here and in our reveal video. This month’s theme is Calico and features a soft take on posies and summer sunshine.  We think that the new colorway we’re sending, Calico Quilt, perfectly matches this theme. This soft blue with royal purple speckles is dyed on Audine Wools Luxury Sock:

Crazy Sock Lady Designs’ Kay Litton has created the most beautiful socks to go along with this crate. Whimsical Socks have the sweetest cables and twisted stitches:

We’ve also included an extra in this crate (and will be including an extra every month from here on out!) Each member will get a little macaron ‘notions box’ that is big enough to hold a pair of scissors, stitch markers and even a tape measure on the go! This hard plastic case will keep items from being crushed in the bottom of your bag, and it’s beyond cute. We can’t wait to see what color everyone gets!

July 2020 Early Preview

To begin the celebration of summer, we teamed up with Michele Costa of Stitch and Hustle! Not only is Michele a designer in knit and crochet, but she is also the host and organizer of the nationwide fiber fun retreat series, Stitch Up! Whether it be through the events that bring our fiber community together or the countless free patterns on her blog, Michele is a light in our fiber community. This month she not only helped design each colorway, she also designed both featured membership patterns- a real treat for our subscribers! 

July’s theme is Color Splash - Red-hot poppy, bubblegum pink, dark magenta, silver, and teal find a home in this fun, exciting palette.​

This month’s featured Membership yarn is our URU.YARN Cotton Basic, a 100% Unmercerized Organic Pima Cotton. This yarn is a DK weight and each hank is 275 yards in length at 100g. The cotton is spun and plied in a 3 ply construction resulting in a very sturdy and breathable fabric. 

Energize Me: Hustle

This colorway is inspired by one of Michele’s favorite colors. With a melange tonal effect, this colorway perfectly represents all of Michele’s favorite shades of pink! 

Chill Out: Stardust

A deep and tonal navy that reminds us of the dark night sky.

This multi tone gray is a nod to the busy streets and sidewalks that make up Michele’s favorite cities.

Mrs.Crosby Travels Partner Crate, Quarterly Membership

This month Mrs. Crosby is holding off on traveling outside of the United States to continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In the meantime, Mrs.Crosby is taking a road trip from Kentucky to Miami to visit her friends over at KnitCrate and to relax on a private beach. She has packed her project bags with this month’s yarn and is ready to stitch away by the sand!
